Yes, Back in the Sixties, Many groups had a distinct sound that was all their own, instantly recognizable and thrilling. The Zombies had that very cool, jazz/rock vibe to their sound and lyrics that worked so well together. One gets such a powerful sense of this seductive but mysterious , incomprehensible Woman... Well, Let me tell you 'bout the way she looked, the way she act, the color of her hair, Her voice was soft and cool, her eyes were clear and bright... But She's Not There... WOW... Amazing!!!
The background vocals and breathing sounds were exceptionally good! The sound was perfect. Unfortunately, the group had some growing pains which was typical of young people and they had to take time off from each other for awhile. Such is life.
I am a 59 year old and you just made me smile. If I envy youth for one reason it is all of the wonderful music you have in front of you, yet to be discovered.
my introduction to this song was in 1979 with the UK Subs punk version... the Zombies version is much better of course, but I still loved the UK Subs version at the time th-cam.com/video/Aur8Miwq9Rc/w-d-xo.html Have to say I do appreciate younger people now getting in to the music I loved when I was young. The music of the 60's and 70's (and for quite a few years beyond) was so inspired and diverse.. and young people today would gain SO much by broadening their outlook and listening to it.
The keyboard in the recording is actually a Hohner electric piano. One of the coolest sounding electric pianos ever. Difficult to play because it had no sustain pedal. The keyboard in the video is a Vox Continental organ.
@@anthonypfranco Rod Argent is the best. When this came out around 65 I was in high school. My friend Ron was a 10th grader. I remember him telling me that he had to replay the LP keyboard solo about 20 times to nail it. Alan Price was another great player in that era.

Ii agree with you, oughten oughten. I turn 75 next week and am so grateful I grew up in this musical era. I saw Colin in New Hampshire at the Pavilion in Gilford. He was part of Hippie Fest. When he came out on stage, he got a standing ovation before he even opened his mouth. It was electrifying! He looked bewildered and surprised to get such a response. It’s one of my favorite memories. Eric Burdon was part of this show too. What a great evening!

@@jaimeguerrero7320 Not me. Additionally I still like cowboy movies, especially The Magnificent Seven, 1960, The Cowboys, True Grit, Ol Yeller, Hang em High, few others.
Thank fuck for that. I don't need musicians to be good looking and to behave, i need them to sound great and be an amazing experience live. For example take Brett Hoffman (i know, different genre but valid as an example), topless except an open vest, jeans, long sweaty hair (well not sweaty at the start of the concert) but the stage presence and the energy that you could feel was just over the top. Sadly he won't come back as well, fuck cancer.
The kinks. Now there was a band that was different. In the best way I mean. You know a young guy can’t buy everything but I definitely bought the kinks albums. They had 45s back then. 99 cents. lol. True
Too bad most artists of today, not all, can't construct well-arranged songs. Melody is all over the place and not tight. Even garage rock had better tunes than today's songs. Shame, shame.
Genius cares not the era it came from. "She's Not There" is as powerful in 2024 as it was in 1964. Vinyl Junkies in their 20s and younger are discovering the pure Classic Rock my generation grew up on when we were "kids". God BLESS you! You can't do much better than The Zombies. Dig it, young people. You''re our musical soul mates - regardless of your age. We love you all!
Might I suggest that's because most of the so-called music today has all been influenced by what the originals did all those years ago & really just rehashes & reshapes what has already been done. Just a theory

Which makes sense, since The Zombies are sometimes referred to as "the transition" or "the bridge" between The Beatles and The Doors, or the eras those two bands represented. Comrade dulls - As this year Rap/R&B sales have finally overtaken rock music - The Party™ has issued initiatives to completely break down society and degrade culture so the state can take total control. This will require everyone to hand in any 70s rock albums by white artists. Despite most rock being correct & ideologically beneficial compositions, the band members themselves must be photoshopped less white - before being erased from the Collective Consciousness - particularly Led Zeppelin, Jethro Tull and Yes. Citizens will then have their albums replaced with Rihanna, Bruno Mars and Linda Ronstadt - as well a whole host of Jay-Z-Approved performers, keyed in to reduce musical literacy, normalize salacious material, and generally demoralize the population. Also a diverse Islamic Jihadist music and Mexican folk music may be included. MTV & The Grammys will no longer tolerate bands acting "white" by singing in English correctly, having above average tunes, playing their own instruments or using intelligent lyrics. Bourgeois values and the memory of them must be erased from the Collective Consciousness with the help of historical revisionism in the academia, news media, and the Party's branches in the entertainment sector. The proletariat will then undergo re-education and be released from ungood thoughts, by instilling a culture of materialism, physical beauty, sex and financial success without effort or practical ability.
Comrade Dulls - the proletariat need not worry about the higher pursuits of the mind. It's been taken care of for them by us - the Global Elites ! I urge you to turn yourself over to the Party™ for re-education and be released from ungood thoughts. All Thought is Crime.
Wow! This still sends chills up and down my spine! It's pure electricity. And in that era, there was electricity like that, practically every week, for an entire decade! It's still mind-blowing, even now. OMG!
Rod Argent on keyboards wrote most of the music and contributed to a lot of the lyrics. He had a successful career after the Zombies broke up. 1st with his own band Argent then as a composer for films and television, record producer and session musician. Rod and his wife have been married 50 years. That is rare in normal society and even more rare in the entertainment business.
Rod and Colin got back together in 2001, they added Rod's cousin Jim Rodford and his son Steve to their new lineup and added Keith Airey as lead guitarist before Tom Toomey took over sometime in the late 2000's. Then Jim Rodford died in 2018. Chris White and Hugh Grundy reunited with Rod and Colin for the 50th anniversary of the Odyssey and Oracle release. Sadly, Paul Atkinson died in 2004.
While many bands in the 60's went the psychedelic route with their music, bands like The Zombies, The Doors, and Donovan combined rock with jazz. I think that's why their music is timeless...

It has to be the most poignant and atmospheric songs of it's era. Timeless, haunting and you never tire of hearing it. An outstanding and profoundly creative aural masterpiece.
I was still in HS when this song was released. Graduated in 1969 and joined the USMC in June of 1969. I knew I'd end up in Vietnam which I did in '71-'72. I had a death wish back then and knew I'd be killed in Vietnam. Now I'm glad I made it home. This song reminds me of the life and loves of the sixties and seventies when music was music and girls were girls.
Good bless you my friend. I was born in 64 and still don't quite understand. I had 2 brothers drafted ( 1 in Vietnam, 1 waiting to go). What you did for our country far outweighs any song. You have the right to do anything you want. You deserve it brother!

I like how the cameraman literally focuses on everyone and everything except keyboardist Rod Argent during the keyboard solo. Drummer, random woman - whatever. Unbelievable.
incredibly moment when he makes the funny face next to the statute. seems planned but since none of the other members do stuff like that, perhaps it was spontaneous?
When I was married I asked my wife to get me the Zombie's greatest hits CD. She did. Her comment on the cover photo was "It looks like they are trying to pull of the retro look." I had to explain to her it was not retro but was the way they dressed at the time when their music came out. It was time like that our fourteen year age difference was apparent. lol
This song has a unique quality that I can't quite put my finger on - it's like the feeling when a chalkboard screeches, but instead of being unbearable, it's electrifying. It's like the music is vibrating through every part of my body and I can't help but move to the beat. It is more than just a song, it's an experience that I can't get enough of
if you listen carefully, every single instrument is doing something unusual: the drums, the guitar, the bass, and the dominant electric piano. it all comes together for an amazing song. not a simple song at all to play. very sophisticated for 1964.
That's Rod Argent on the keys. When The Zombies broke up, he formed his own band Argent. His organ solo in "Hold Your Head Up" (long version) is considered to be one of the greatest in rock music.
Actually, it wasn't a synth. It was an electric piano... a Hohner Pianet. Rod Argent used it almost exclusively in their early songs and it contributed greatly to the group's distinctive sound.
@@flynn8969 No Flynn - it was NOT an organ. It was a Hohner Pianet, an early electric piano. Most keyboard players in the sixties and seventies used either a Fender Rhodes or a Wurlitzer electric piano, sometimes along with a Hammond, a Farfisa or a Vox organ...but Rod definitely used the Hohner on this song. It's a totally different sound. I've been a pro keyboard player since this song came out and I've used pretty much every major keyboard at one time or another. The actual instruments used on most hit records are well documented. You can look it up if you like.

Thanks babe!
So now we know what the doors were listening to
Exactly what I was thinking.
I think I read somewhere that they were I influenced alot by the older blues stuff.
Santarna as well lol xx these guys are still electric lol xx
Absolutely!! Before looking this up, I thought the Zombies were a Doors wannabe band. Turns out it's quite the opposite 😅
Santana was great in person back in the day! Many groups wrote and played there own music.
Colin Blunstone's voice is like silk, so soft and so smooth. His voice is truly something special
corememoriess , i like your message , i feel the same about Colin Blunstones voice ,, no one can match it , then now and always hes so unique xx lol JANE X
I attended a Zombies concert not too long ago and I'm surprised they're still performing. One of the best concerts, ever. The audience just roared!

And they have a new album out in 2023, nearly 60 years later!

As an 18 y.o I am so thankful for TH-cam allowing me to find great songs like these.
The 60s were magical for music.
I am a 59 year old and you just made me smile. If I envy youth for one reason it is all of the wonderful music you have in front of you, yet to be discovered.
Have you heard “the way I feel inside” yet? It’s tied with this one as my favorite zombies song
my introduction to this song was in 1979 with the UK Subs punk version... the Zombies version is much better of course, but I still loved the UK Subs version at the time
th-cam.com/video/Aur8Miwq9Rc/w-d-xo.html
Have to say I do appreciate younger people now getting in to the music I loved when I was young. The music of the 60's and 70's (and for quite a few years beyond) was so inspired and diverse.. and young people today would gain SO much by broadening their outlook and listening to it.
Welcome to the Wonderful World of Classic Rock
The voice of Colin Blunstone is like no other. he's perfect!! I'll never get tired listening to him and the bass line and the hammond....
Colin Blunstone has several excellent solo albums. He also was a member of the Alan Parsons Project.
The keyboard in the recording is actually a Hohner electric piano. One of the coolest sounding electric pianos ever. Difficult to play because it had no sustain pedal. The keyboard in the video is a Vox Continental organ.
Not a Hammond a Hohner Pianet.

@@anthonypfranco Rod Argent is the best. When this came out around 65 I was in high school. My friend Ron was a 10th grader. I remember him telling me that he had to replay the LP keyboard solo about 20 times to nail it. Alan Price was another great player in that era.

One of the coolest and best-constructed songs ever - it deserves to be around for many more decades
It’s not going anywhere 😊
It’s gonna be around long after we’ve gone! 🤣👏

The style reminds me The Doors and a little bit of The Beatles, too
Way better than the Doors-The Doors were a studio band-awful in person-and more adventuresome than the Beatles at the same time period
Jennifer Calabrano Arias In High School a teacher knew Greg Allman & got there band to come all the way to Buffalo, NY to play. Greg even brought Cher. Its true Buffalo is unlucky 10 feet snow almost every winter, 4 lost superbowls 1977 Blizzard, people consider us a drinking town because a lot of Irish folks live here. That 77 Blizzard was bad 70mph winds City & Schools were closed for 3 weeks. Its cool having Canada as a Neighbor & Niagara Falls is close
Greg is a cool singer too; I understand you, I live in a small town in Chile ( Los Ángeles ) and here the winters are very cold and the summer is very hot and dry, because we live in the middle of mountains and hills, anyway I love my city because it's simply
no way they had their shit happening
Which makes sense, since The Zombies are sometimes referred to as "the transition" or "the bridge" between The Beatles and The Doors, or the eras those two bands represented. In my opinion, The Zombies are too great and unique to be considered just as a transition point between two (great) bands, but the statement makes perfect sense nonetheless.

A long reply and much to ponder.
Comrade Dulls - the proletariat need not worry about the higher pursuits of the mind. It's been taken care of for them by us - the Global Elites !
I urge you to turn yourself over to the Party™ for re-education and be released from ungood thoughts. All Thought is Crime.

Rod Argent on keyboards wrote most of the music and contributed to a lot of the lyrics. He had a successful career after the Zombies broke up. 1st with his own band Argent then as a composer for films and television, record producer and session musician. It’s hard when you’re always standing next to gorgeous models like those in this video.
