I like how my eyes look at one place, and then the next scene shows something at the same place of focus, do you mind making a video on how you do that? Its like my eyes aren't moving that much because everything is so perfectly placed.
@@SpankyProduction yeah for sure. It’s called “eye-line matching”. It’s a mix of editing technique and shot composition, you can follow this rule to make it easier for the viewer or go the opposite way and make the viewer look around, depends on the experience you want to give the viewer/story etc. yeah I’ll put it on my list of videos! I’m doing a TH-cam live soon, so happy to cover bits of it then. Thanks for watching 🙏
@@_jonkent Appreciate the quick answer, this is so good method to keep the audience engaged! Thank you for that. So you use like the rule of thirds to keep focus on something, and on the same place you put in important thing after the cut right? So lets say I do shoe review, If people look me in the eyes, I should put an important detail on the same point as my eyes were at?
@@SpankyProduction yeah thats essentially it. Just be mindful when using this technique, like anything it can be overused, which might end up boring the viewer if it's just every single shot. You could change the point of focus though, keep it in one place for a few shots, then purposefully change where they look and then keep it in the new position for a few shots. Next time you watch a movie or tv show, try to keep it in mind, are they doing this technique? are they wanting you to work less as an audience member or maybe its like a detective show, where they want the audience to be more involved, horror films do this well, making you look around the subject then the next cut the focus has moved.
Thank you! So using after effects, you basically mask out the windows, then I had a rain layer that I placed underneath that clip. Hope that helps, let me know if there’s any other type of videos youd like to see
amazing content man ! quick question could you not have used VFX rain for the outside shots ? combined with a sprinkler or hose. and in post use some fast noise and masking to make something. Obviously your editing and vfx skills are great and just curious as to the decision to wait (apart from life getting busy was there another reason) Loved the video !
@@OfficalRyanMurray thanks for watching! So that was shot out in the middle of no where, so no access to hose pipe or anything. But honestly I prefer to try and get everything in camera, there was no rush on the project, the only thing I was concerned about was the actors availability and/or commitment to finish it but he was great and was all fine. Was worth the wait. I have done some VFX stuff before outside and worked because the ground was already wet, so could have maybe done it but yeah just wanted heavy rain for real 🤣
@_jonkent unreal man . I just watched the film was amazing. Lighting and performance was top notch . I'm about to watch ogress ! Much respect from Ireland 🇮🇪
I haven’t finished the video yet but this is a short film in itself! I’m planning on making my first short film but I’m going to be the only one working on it any tips for a begginer like me?
@@StarLordTv13 thank you for watching. Yes, when are you making your short film? I’m planning on doing a TH-cam live in January, it will be a fully in depth video on making a short film from beginning to end, my complete process with live Q&A.
Okay cool, hopefully you might be able to catch the live video when I do it, and that will help. My basic advice for short film, especially your first is just to plan as much as possible. Put as much effort into pre production (the planning and organising stage). Make sure you’ve got the best story you can make, plan the locations, if you’re working with actors then make sure you give them all the details for the shoot, times, what you’ll be shooting, give them a heads up and enough time to learn lines etc. plan your shots ahead of time, so you’re not wasting time on set trying to figure out every shot. I could keep going, but main thing is plan! Have fun, enjoy the process, and know that your very first short film probably won’t be anything incredible, but it’s the start of your journey to becoming a film maker! If you got any other questions as you go, drop me a comment 👍
@ absolutely! And when it’s all done you can look back on it and be proud you completed it, then later analyse it and note down what you could have done better and improve those things in the next one.
So yes, it’s one of those things where life happens, I had a little boy after making it and work full time whilst trying to make videos and short films for TH-cam. I want to make the ogress feature film, I’m slowly working on a script in the background and the goal is to one day make that, document the journey and then release the film. It will happen it’s just a case of when. Thanks for the comment. Would you be interested in a part 2 or feature?
This may be an "improper" question to ask, but how do you finance your projects? Do you make any money out of them? Is it your only source of income? Can you make good money making short films like this one?
@@Kekmit not at all, so these short films are all passion projects. I finance all my projects myself out of my own pocket. Don’t make any money from them, they now make a bit of money from ad revenue on TH-cam but it’s nothing at all really and certainly not covering the cost of them, maybe one day if I were to reach many more views and subs, but who knows. You can make money from making longer feature films with websites like film hub, which is something I’m looking to do, but honestly it’s all passion work at the moment with the pursuit of making content creation full time, so I can then make short film projects which pay. Hope that helps, any more questions feel free to ask.

No need for "On a budget" every film is on a budget. It's just the scale that is different.
When I say budget, I mean a few hundred quid like most other film makers who do it on their own
Lots of films go over budget and possibly create a disaster, so on a budget is working within budget and not going over budget
