I’m a 70 year old ranch broker in Central Oregon. I come from a time where we used 20 or 36 exposure rolls of black and white film. My first aerial video work took place in helicopters with the door removed. I shot weddings and made 16X20 prints with a Nikon D70 - 6MP! I eventually went to Lumix M4/3 cameras for video and kept my Nikon D90 for still photography. I now use a Nikon D850 and. Lumix GH5 & G9II for my video along with a DJI Mavic 2 pro for the aerials. I’m getting ready to retire now and wondered where to go and what to do with my camera and video gear. My first idea is to do a mini-documentary about the people I worked so closely with for years - farmers and ranchers - to show “Where Your Food Comes From”. (Twinkies being but one exception). Your video has truly inspired me, Andrew. And also motivated me to stop planning and get busy with a shot list and start shooting the video, I’ve subscribed and so glad I found your channel. Like having my son explain this stuff. I’m grateful. Sorry to write War and Peace. Jim in Oregon

Here, a part of the 20%. Working on creating content around my album. I released my self produced album TWENTY THREE. 23 songs of multiple genres. My mom was murdered at 23 years old and telling her story was my inspo. It took me years to craft the project and im just not in a space to MOVE ON from it. Being independent means your music is still new to a lot of the world, So I’ve been building production sets and performing acoustic versions of the songs with just my guitar or piano, my version of like a TINY DESK. Recording, editing, coloring, and designing the sets can be tedious, time consuming, and expensive at times. So videos like this are such inspo for me to just keep going focusing on the vision, with patience and persistence. I always feel like HA SOMEONE ELSE UNDERSTANDS ME, when i watch your videos.

🔥Just discovered this video, and you really. Hooked within the first 2 minutes because of clearly an awesome and genuine personality. Love the honesty and transparency througout the vid, hope you'll keep that always. More so that you are adressing what were the struggles you experienced in your journey, too few creators do this and only show a perfect result for copy pasting. I personally learn so much more from how you do it and what you choose to share. And you still manage to keep it so concise and relevant, crazy!🤯🤙

I watched the entire video. Not sure if you’ll read this comment, but I’ll go ahead and write it anyway.
Yes, it’s true I have noticed many of your videos in some of your shots you may repeat a shot, or even a line or two from Gawx videos or other people (I don’t know).
To be clear, when it comes to the visuals, your work stands out with your color contrasts and your film grain nostalgic vibes.
Visually however, yeah many of these shots have been done before and there’s really nothing new under the Sun,
But here’s where you shine Andrew,
In being yourself. Even though you have used many shots that are similar to other channels, it’s your willingness to be vulnerable and share with others what you are going through that really shines through.
Even this video, for instance, the Gawx video was really well made, but it still maintains that air of mystery that he loves to have. The “how did he do that?” Or “How is he getting these kinds of shots?” Or “How is he putting out that much work?”, and sure there’s a place for that, but with your version, you have been more open and sincere about the ACTUAL Literal process, particularly with those BTS shots of you sharing your creative process, that’s awesome man and those are the kinds of shots that will help you shine through whatever imposter syndrome or feelings of not being good enough that may arise in you.
Keep being authentic and being yourself, show us who don’t know but want to learn, what you know, and watch how others will have a bit of your work in their work. Wouldn’t it be great to see others sharing their inner most thoughts in a cinematic way just like you? Or sharing behind the scenes and being themselves just like you?
That’s where your work shines. Authenticity, not visually, though very compelling and very well made, but in yourself and your willingness to be vulnerable.
    Great video, GOD Bless man

    • @YouAreSoMadRN
      @YouAreSoMadRN หลายเดือนก่อน +3

Not sure how he did it, but he can be remote controlling the camera through his laptop. Clicks the zone he wants to focus on, it takes time for the computer to transfer the signal to the camera, and for the camera to react and finish the re-focus. So when he takes his hands off the keyboard that’s when he clicked, and just had 2 seconds to grab his head and settle into frustration
Not sure how crisp his setup is, but that’s how it would work for my a6500 with a WiFi connection to an external controller like an iPad, iPhone or computer.

Okay, So I wasn't going to say anything until I realized you're still doing this in your latest video release. As an audio guy, I work for a radio station, and I'm an audio reporter, one thing you need to do is work on your vox, you voice track. You're obvious really reallly good with the visual aspect, and I know you care about sound design, you just haven't gone to the next step of audio just yet. It's not a criticism per say, as you're already doing ten times better than most people by even being considerate enoug to think of soud design and to use at least a yeti. That being said, I would reccomend two things, first, when you're recording your voiceover remember you have two parts, actualities and vox. The human ear can tell that you're not actually speaking in the clips where you mouth along in time and fill it in with the same vox track you use during shots where it's obvious you're not supposed to be speaking in the shot. The parts where you speak and mouth along are your actualities, the parts where you're not speaking and the voiceover is just that are your Vox portions. Seperate these two, and when you record your actualities do so with a slightly different recording set up. Literally move to a diffrent part of the room, move the mic position, use a diffeent mic, or all of it. That way, the parts where you mouth along will sound different from your Vox and it will really sell that you're not just mouthing it in the video, or at least that the audio track might be real. When it's all the same, there's nothing to sell and the effect doesn't work. Second, upgrade your mic. Blue yeti... I mean, I get it, but a real mic will make a huge difference, as big a jump as the yeti is from the internal mic on most cameras. Anyway, genuienly, not meant to be hating or negatively critiquing, just trying to encourage you to improve your already stellar work.

Hi Andrew! I wanna take some time and just say thank you for inspiring me and helping me through this cinematography journey. I am a 17 year old high school student who is currently brainstorming their first film in hopes of getting accepted to film school! Your work is amazing and your visual storytelling is out of this world. I’m currently struggling in a lot of areas right now, from the way things look to how they feel. I know I’ll get over it, because every time I watch you I feel empowered. Like you said, that small 20% who stays for the end of the video definitely feels like you’re gonna go great places. I find it helps to watch to the end, especially if the person’s work helps me (i mean the fact that I can get his level of assistance for free is inane). Just so you know, your work is simply amazing and inspires me to do better. I hope one day, after I make my film of course, we can get in touch. Thank you again, and I’ll be looking forward to your next video.

I've been trying to figure out how to put on paper or digital the things going around in my imagination, I've been really needing this and it just comes in the perfect moment. Thank you, you have this amazing gift to transmit your feelings through every frame and that's rare nowadays ❤

Hi Andrew, really want to thank you for posting these pieces of valuable education about filming. Recently, my interest for film making began to grow and I've been watching these scenes breakdown got to know a lot about color management, editing, importance of sound design and cinematography. Your video kinda gave me a roadmap of how can I start with my film making journey. Right now I'm a graphic designer and I've done some video editing and shot short insta reels and I think with the knowledge I've got from these videos I would be able to add more depth, character and relatability to our content.
And thanks for reminding me that it's okay to fail and how important it is to fail to learn.
    ❣ Love from India

I'm part of your 20% it seems. :P
I'm a 38 year old artist with 15 years of 'industry experience' in crafting packaging, graphics, marketing materials, etc. for a variety of companies. I quit nearly 2 years ago because I honestly couldn't take it anymore. I felt like a tool for implementation - not an artist. I barely got to be creative, and that just wasn't what I wanted to put into the world. So I've been re-finding my creativity, unlearning things, learning new things, and figuring out where to go and what to do - this video, and especially your 'start before you know how' have been wonderfully helpful at letting me feel like I'm not alone, that I CAN do this even if I don't know all the steps, and even if I suck at it at first. It's a very solid and helpful reminder that 'failure' is not a noun - as an individual you aren't and can't be a 'failure'. Failure is a transient state towards something better, it can be messy, not great, and that's ok. It's that fear of failure/perfectionism that holds one back from actually getting into the nitty gritty of creating, growing, and learning. So thank you for posting such wonderful and beautiful content. For reminding others that failure is to be expected and absolutely ok, and please do keep creating!

Just found your dream chase video, which led me here, while working on a project I'm not passionate about for work. You have given me inspiration where no one else could. Instead of focusing on my work, I have starting thinking I can too do what my dreams tell me to do. Maybe along the way I'll get happier. Either way, watched the video all the way to the end. Thank you for existing.
