Something to note as someone with a K-Plus: that rubber wrap that you use as a hand grip will pop off after about 2 years, after the adhesive dries out, which leaves behind a nicely textured milled aluminum surface. I actually prefer it this way.

Finally the comparison of x-pro with other grinders. So happy to hear that I made a right choice and bought the x-pro from Rogue Wave Coffee two months ago. My other choice was jx-pro, did not choose it because of the better design, heptagonal burr and easier external adjustment of x-pro. This 1Zpresso company should seriously consider simplifying their product lines. There are waaay too many unnecessary series and products under different names with no significant differences. It's very easy to get confused and lost what each one does. I am aware they offer guideline but there are just way too many things. Stop adding new series!! THREE (or four max) hand grinders should be more than enough from one company.

It's made very good espresso and I've been very satisfied with it. You get used to the workflow and learn to use it quickly. Practically zero retention though you need to screw/unscrew the cup twice. First time to empty the grounds, put the cup back on and knock it downwards 2-3 times firmly on the counter to dislodge the retention around the burr. Even with all that screwing and unscrewing of the cup, I've had zero issues with it and my unit has worked flawlessly up till now. The build quality speaks for itself.

It is truly comparable to the best videos I’ve seen on TH-cam in general but without a doubt when it comes to Coffee related content. I love the comedic edits haha, it really does add to the overall quality of the video. Keep on keeping on 😊
Quick question: did you do any espresso tests ? You made a comment on it being slow so you’d recommend the K series. But what about the quality of espresso. Considering it’s 2/3rd of the cost of K series.. I think some people might be okay with the extra effort as long as the cup compares. Can you please share your thoughts on the cup quality of espresso in comparison to the K series, if you got a chance to try it for espresso.

That's a complicated question and not something as easy to answer since it's apples and oranges. I think the X-Pro is a personal favourite but to be clear, it's conical burr. They will more or less always have a different profile than a flat. The SSP MP burr is the clarity king. But that's not always what people are seeking for... but think so because someone online raved about it. I'd recommend trying these different grinders if possible (Borrowing from a friend? Going to a local retailer? Local cafe that sells them?) and testing them. This will give you a better understanding of the difference.

@@KyleRowsell This is the best answer you could have given :). SSP MP might be what I'm looking for, then. I didn't know clarity is what I was after. I like my coffee closer to water than sludge (if that reference makes sense?). I don't think I'll ever get to try the SSP MP on anything, but the X-Pro is fun. I tried double grinding yesterday and I didn't notice any improvement on my Clever Dripper. But did notice improvement in my Clever using Wet WDT :).

  • @AngelJD
    @AngelJD ปีที่แล้ว +1

My first grinder was a Timemore Chestnut C2 and I loved it but while it was perfect for my moka pot (size and grind) many told me it wasn't recommended for espresso grinds and I did have to put some effort towards the grinding and took some time due to the smaller diameter that beans entered and shared space within. Lastly the metal house while assisted my hand that held down the grinder it also hurt due to the bumps that assisted. I used a cheap bench clamp to instead hold down the timemore vs using my hand which helped greatly.
Just got the J-Max grinder that can handle an espresso grinding size and while it still requires some effort when turning the crank it is less effort then the Timemore and having a bigger diameter allows for faster grinding with less rotations needed.
Just got the J-Max a month ago but now I feel more influenced to actually buy fresh beans and grind it vs using Kcups as I rush about certain aspects of my day.
Curious how other reviewers will compare this new grinder with J-Max and K-Max. I went for the J-Max not just being extremely beloved by others, $50 cheaper, and more control per click towards the grind size (takes some time to experiment to find the right sizes per brew methods but when doing so gives a extra level to the cups). The K-Max had some interesting features over the J-Max that I wish was incorporated into the J-Max (maybe a V2 J-Max) but ultimately I still leaned to the J-Max.

The adjustment per click is more than four times finer than the C40, more than twice as fine as Red Clix. The often quoted 30 micron clicks of the C40 refer to the approximate change in particle size, not movement of the burr. 0.7mm thread pitch / 12 clicks per round = 58.3 microns (29.2 w/red clix) Just pointing this out because a lot of other videos get this completely wrong and have led to the false perception that anything less precise than 15 microns per click isn't good enough for espresso.

@@KyleRowsell You can measure the thread pitch with calipers or just compare the typical click settings. The click count for each brew method is approximately 3 times higher with a JX or K-Plus.
      C40 espresso ~12, drip ~26, french press ~32
      JX (25 micron) esp. ~28, drip ~78, f.p. ~93

Seems the ordering from broader/more espresso oriented grind distribution to more unimodal/pourover oriented goes: JX/J-Pro/J-Max > K-Pro/K-Max > Q2/X-Pro > ZP6 special. If I can infer, the C40 falls into the K-Pro/K-Max range.

Upgraded from Jxpro to Kpro and gotta say a couple things:
      1. Kpro ain't a Jxpro upgrade. Just a different tasting grinder with a different adjustment mechanism, different target. Both are all rounders, can't go wrong with any. Jxpro has wider adjustment range and it's easier to crank too.
      2. K series external adjustment is great but sensitive to water. If some water gets in, it's over. This happened to me. This sounds incredible buts it's true. Amazing grinders but fcking water sensitive.
Jxpro will never get damaged in case you put them in contact with water.

Just like the Lagoon Mini and Kingrinder K6, there will be subbyle differences. Side by side you can tell they are different but they share some similarities to the C40 burr. It's legit hard to remember what the differences though and you do need them side by side to tell. It's interesting to try them and see if they produce different cups but that's something I'd have to buy more similar grinders for and TBH I'm happy with my grinder.
You'll notice I didn't say which one I have and that's the point.

@@KyleRowsell all of them are very slightly different in actual geometries. C40 has different height of breaker but the cutting edges come up higher in the breakers. ZXP has again slight differences between it and C40 in where and how high, etc.
If you put them side by side on the same plane and look at each individual tooth and surface you'll start to see them.

However, I saw in table that grinding size starts from 0. So how can I start counting clicks (from which point) if I want to adjust it for pressurized basket? Actually I want to make espresso with naked portafilter but I need to know just starting point for pressurized first and then go back more fine grind setting rotating it to counter clockwise. What would you recommend?
