You definitely could eject mid air on the old versions - though it might have only been the speeders on Hoth. Back in "the day" in our clan we had footage of the gunner in the speeders dropping out of one speeder and into another one behind it.
in 2 you had to rapidly click the land button and exit button and glitch out of the vehicle, in 1 you could just do it whenever. Speeder with a mine on the front used as a torpedo is still the most powerful weapon in the game
Yeah, I hope they fix that loading screen sound, and especially those server issue, because the servers is mainly a big reason people will switch from the original steam version on steam. The servers in those versions were absolutely horrible since they turned them back on in 2017, they were just so laggy and jittery. Another thing, looking at all the new mipmapping to textures they added, it just all looks too shiny, infact I'd say it reminds me of half life source, with how steam pipeline broke the mipmapping on floors in that game. I dare say I'm not a fan of the over abundance of shinyness 🤨
We just gotta do what we can to bring attention to the things that need fixed. I'm sure if we make a big enough ordeal, report the issues to Aspyr, if enough bigger channels like this point out the flaws, then maybe the devs will polish things up and give us the Battlefront collection of our dreams.
Or even better, they actually put in some effort, hire some people to do some Q&A testing before dropping out a low effort rehash of a 20 year old game for nearly double the price of the originals on steam combined. But of course let's not keep our developers to higher standards, Let's just keep them shoveling garbage our way and hope they fix it after they get our money for the sake of nostalgia.
@@Harmonic14 I’ll never understand why some people feel the need to make fun of us for having nostalgia for this iconic sound. It’s not so much about getting over the fact that it’s just a sound as it is the fact that this detail isn’t staying true to the original release of the game. I know they’ll end up fixing it eventually if enough people call it out.
To be fair, that's an RTS game where I think it's expected a match is gonna go on for a long while. Battlefront meanwhile is a fastpaced shooter, it's about the quick responses and while GC is fun? It also can take a long time to complete.

No, audio and small stuff is a huge deal. They’re rereleasing the games, and they should get this stuff right. Whether it’s the BF1 intro sound, the placement of the reinforcement counters (should be higher), the inverted flight controls, or the fact that the “Loading” pinwheel for BF1 is higher and overlaps with the map lines now…like come on. Glad they used the console main menu for BF2 tho, that’s a nice touch. Not really sure why they changed the font either, the original fonts are so iconic, but that’s not the end of the world. Galactic conquest should have private servers, I thought it did back in the day, but even still it should have them today as an improvement. Regardless, thank you for testing this Elliot, I’ll be at the ready to report these issues if they persist into release.
It sucks for sure. I understand everyone wants to play multiplayer again but this sets a strange precedent that we are willing to buy games we already own with small tweaks that aren't even necessarily an upgrade. It's kinda like if instead of making the master chief collection microsoft removed backwards compatibility for combat evolved and re-released it with some barely noticable AI upscaling and messed up a few things while charging 35 dollars for it. I feel like all of the changes in the new release could have easily been done by a small team of hobbyists for free.
I don't think galactic conquest was possible to play online. I would be extremely happy if they added it. It's a concept that could help redefine modern FPS games, if only they would experiment and see how awesome it could be.
Glad you mentioned the font, that was like the first discrepancy I noticed, and it's certainly for the worse. To add to your list, it looks like the crosshair elements are misaligned, specifically the overheat bar and the two different sets of reload indicators. I wish I could say I'm surprised, but I've been aware of Aspyr's janky ports for a while now. Best we can do is hope they actually put in the effort to fix these things, but I'm not holding my breath.
"The placement of the reinforcement counters" Really? This is what we're coming down to in complaints? The placement of numbers on a screen? Nevermind the fact that they're still small, do not get in the way of playing the game and are basically where they always were, it's apparently an issue that they are not placed higher. Frankly, these small issues are that, small. The sound change sucks and is bizarre but it doesn't affect gameplay in the slightest. The loading pinwheel overlapping? Completely negligible visual that most players aren't gonna really notice. Inverted controls? Most flight games and flight systems have this. At this point everyone is just basically prepared that if flying's involved in a game? They're inverting the controls. It sucks that there's no option to change it but it's not a dealbreaker and is something people can learn. The fonts being changed? Odd but for years we have played SWBFII on PC which changes out the sci-fi font for a basic-ass Arial looking thing and most people didn't really care. The font is not "iconic", it's nostalgic but otherwise means nothing for the overall game. Like I'd be more upset if the fonts were broken or badly sized.
"This is how the original is supposed to sound" immediately an ad pops up. Also fps issues on BF2 aka the best of the two games? They need to fix this shit like pronto!
@@arthurgabriel360I'm not sure about this one actually, a HD film is like 1-2 gb with Blu-Ray films are up to 50gb. I don't think a collection of clips is gonna make up that extra 50gb.
Worth noting, I don’t know if you played the other Aspyr ports, but they do a pretty bare minimum. My favorite game of all time is Jedi outcast 2 and they dropped the ball on a few things in that. Republic Commando has a few levels with legit unplayable framerate issues to this day on switch.
They also axed the multiplayer on Republic Commando, messed up the names of weapon/ammo pickups, and lowered the FOV. My expectations for a faithful port of the Battlefront games were already low because of this: the devil's in the details, and Aspyr doesn't seem too detail-oriented.

To make sure a kill registers when you push someone off a cliff in Battlefront 2, you must first hit them once. Only pushing them off a cliff isn't enough. Maybe the BF1 heroes don't unlock the achievement when you push them over a cliff because they don't register damage? Don't know in that case.
I definitely remember ejecting midflight. I remember making an AI teammate exit my ship on Hoth at the highest altitude just for fun and then me following suit.
In my personal opinion, if you are looking to play online a lot on this game, then it may not be perfect and you may have some issues because it’s a port from the older games which the craters of the classic collection do have to fix in an update, kind of like he mentioned in the video but if you’re looking for a single player or couch co-op experience then this will be just like the original game With slight differences that won’t matter in the long run.
If anything it's the other way around. If you are looking to play online a lot, then get this as the older games are dead and only 32 player capped. If you only care about single player then the original games with their cheap prices will serve you well
Thanks for the video!! I remember there was a glitch in Naboo’s map in BF2, where a bunch of AI Clone units would just group together at a section of the map during the entire battle!! It was something that happened everytime when playing in that map Did you know if this was fixed?
Right. I got it Day 1 and have already poured at least 4 or 5 hours into it and have been having fun offline. Some issues I've noticed is that Jango Fett's pistol has no sound, Felucia's plant textures need fixing, and Princess Leia sounds really strange when she takes damage. There are some other issues, but nothing major enough to make me want to not play it. I also have my Playstation 2 and the original Battlefront II in it as I was revisiting it in preparation.
You could _definitely_ eject mid-air in the first game. It's one of the most compelling reasons to run the Jet-Trooper. You could scout ahead in a single-seat fighter or load up a Gunship with a whole squad of jetpacks. The loss of this feature is a *huge* *deterrent* for switching over.
I knew this release would be half assed. There's zero reason to get this on PC lmao. $35 for an altered 20 year old game where they fucked up OG features and made unnecessary changes/restrictions. Any "feature" that was alleged to be new was already a working thing on the PC version or easily moddable to make it a thing. The OG PC versions have always been, and always will be superior. No amount of flailing from dummies will change my mind on that either.
Just to correct you on the inverted controls for starfighters, you CAN un-invert them. Options --> Controls --> Starfighter Controls --> Gamepad Control (at bottom of screen!) --> Choose Preset (in upper left!) --> Change from Obi-Wan to Anakin This applies to keyboard and mouse even though it's in Gamepad! Weird, but it works
The fact they gave Battlefront 2 the console menu screen on the PC version is already a nice bonus IMO. I really like the menu on console showing clips from the movies, unlike the current PC version which just has the blueprints of empire vehicles.
So far i have not been able to play a single online match of battlefront 2 without lagging so much that none of my shots register as hits. I also get the disconnect logo in the bottom right even tho i have a wired connection with 100mbps and i dont lag in any other game. Very disappointing i hope this gets fixed. Also im on ps5 and im playing in Australia so hopefully this doesnt mean that there's no oceania servers. Anyone else having the same issue or just me?
I remember not having an option to invert flight controls in many games in the 90’s on Pc so you just had to get used to it. Sometimes modern games options and controls feel like we are still stuck in the 90’s for accessibility, still no deaf modes or proper color blindness modes I spent so many nights in high school playing Battlefront 1 and 2 online on my PS2 or with bots late into the evening.
If it's based on the console version, I wonder if it will have all the crazy wall glitches. Anyone remember getting behind the wall in the Mos Eisley Cantina? Or taking a snow speeder below the map in battlefront 1 and seeing the floating command post that spawned the walkers?
Also they didn't add the feature where there are enemy heroes on the battlefield like on the original xbox version😢 And there is an artifact at Kashyyyk in the left upper corner on ps5. Not sure if that is on pc or xbox as well
I totally remember being able to jump out of my ship mid flight. On the Xbox Battlefront 1 version at least. I used to stick mines to my ship and eject it into other command posts on dune sea🤷🏼
Overall, all the issues you mentioned there sound pretty damn fixable! there wasn't anything there inherently awful other than the BF2 server host FPS limiter, which I'm sure can be addressed. And I'm actually super relieved to hear private servers are still a thing - this way if one day Aspyr has to bail, the community can still roll. Game looks great overall, thanks for your thoughts and testing!
Honestly, if the nitpicks are the worst things then I'd say this port is pretty good. I know inverted flying controls are weird, but that is how it is naturally on the console version, so it makes sense. And heaven forbid the game runs at 30 fps (you know, the frames the game was meant to run on). Honestly, the worst thing is the sound, and sometimes the "improved" graphics just don't look very good.
@@RyanCooper-r9n Hold up.... you think a 20 year old game running on current hardware at 30fps is okay? Let's just think about that for more than 2 seconds.... "Us console players" you say that like 60fps titles haven't been on every generation since ps1 days😅 No need to cope man, just tell the devs to make it 60 because current consoles could obviously run 20 year old games at 120fps if they wanted.

Been playing it for the past hour. It's great to see it updated, my only complaints are the inverting flying and the sprint doesn't seem to always work on BF2. BTW aim assist on PS5 is over powered as hell, pretty much locks onto enemies lol
That’s how aim assist works on all console platforms and its the same way as the classics. Don’t know if you’re talking about the stamina bar or if you genuinely are experiencing a bug that doesn’t allow you to sprint with full stamina, and you can change the inverted controls in settings
Some people are incapable of having as much fun as others and that’s okay 🤷🏽♂️ if you didn’t play it in 2005 then there’s no reason for you to play it now because it will only trigger you.

Im just shocked at how clear the graphics look, not changed just more clear. I had to dust off the ol' PS2 once I heard about the Classic Collection coming out... it is NIGHT AND DAY with a huge wave of nostalgia in regards to graphics because of updated processing. To answer your question with audio from someone who used to work on porting, the audio sometimes gets messed up because of simple code reading. For the new generations consoles/PCs to process "old" code, certain things need to be changed to make that happen (i.e loading screen sounds). Fusion Frenzy if anyone has ever played that, is an example you can look up. To answer your AI questions, its AI from early 2000s, that cant be changed, only way for that to be changed is to literally make a new game with the same mechanics but the AI is only as good as the code and engines. To port this game, I can only imagine the hours it took for a whole team to make this happen. Certain things can be fixed when you run a check for coding errors on the ported code but a lot of the bugs will carry over with no fix. At the end of the day, its not a new game, its the same exact game with certain things unlocked that werent available originally.
Tbh they missed the mark on that - the devs have been lazy. Could’ve been a big selling point. I’m unlikely to buy it on PC as the Standard Edition can be made to be the same, provided you aren’t fussed about MP.
It's a shame... They could've done so much with this release. A few things that would've been nice: - mod support - cross play - Renegade/Elite Squadron PC/console ports - new maps/modes - updated graphics - gameplay/game mode updates/improvements - online galactic conquest (with friends or randoms)

The timing for me watching this video was perfect. This is what the original bf1 loading sounded like, a random ad plays.
Issue with FPS in BF2 multiplayer is likely due to host's FPS being tied to server's tickrate for some reason
You could eject in flight on the Xbox version of BF1, in fact once you hit the critically low reinforcement threshold all the AI would eject mid flight and I remember many a time on Bespin Platforms watching all the AI suicide eject and their ships just falling afterwards
I was wondering if they would fix the ai just randomly bailing out of vehicles at low ticket counts. Like it put the team at a disadvantage especially when playing the republic

pc specific. console lacks this issue entirely
Whole thing seems lazy imo, the more I see the more it looks like a bootleg disc from Brazil.
I hope this sells so we can get the STAR WARS BATTLEFRONT III weve been waiting for!
"This is how the original is supposed to sound" immediately an ad pops up.

Yes. Yes it is.
Can’t wait to experience the 64 player multiplayer, never got to as a kid.
Agreed. Compare that to Dark forces where Nightdive knocked it out of the park with all the stuff they did and added.

At least BF1 works, that one's a lot of fun to play too
If anything it's the other way around. If you are looking to play online a lot, then get this as the older games are dead and only 32 player capped. If you only care about single player then the original games with their cheap prices will serve you well
if it supports 21:9 at higher resolutions then it will be better (assuming mods get to running on the new engine)
