Looks great and so does the head retention. I'm drinking a Breakside IPA right now which was the Gold Medal winner for the the Great American Beer Festival in 2014 and your head retention is much better. I can relate to being the toughest judge with things like head retention and clarity with my own beer. Cheers and good luck with your comp.
I believe flakes are pretty much the same as the quick oats, the important part is that they are pre gelatinized and you don't have to do a cereal mash to get the starch out. Cheers!
Looks and sounds great! I’ve been experimenting with a bit of rye malt or flakes rye that adds a nice crispness to hoppy beers and great mouthfeel and head. Either way sounds delicious!!!
to me, first wort hopping provides a softer more rounded bitterness, I'd like to do a side by side. my theory and it's probably completely wrong is, when you first wort, the temps are lower, so the oils don't get scorched as quickly, so a lower percentage of those oils get cooked at the boil temp, though more research has shown that add bitterness can come at any stage of the hopping process. I've done mass 20 minute additions for a while and skip the early additions, I haven't noticed much difference... but then again, I've never done a side by side.. I always throw a little bit of oats in my IPA's..
Interesting recipe! Never threw oats in with a IPA but im always a fan of "softer" beers. What did the IBU's come out on this one, surprised to not see a traditional 60 minute bittering addition. Sounds like this would be a highly refreshing low bitter IPA with a awesome nose on it with those whirlpool additions! Cheers!

Thanks a lot! Cheers!
Even if its not the best IPA recipe ever, it still sounds like a damn good IPA. Good talking points!
It was a good one, and I think I'm brewing it again within the next week. Cheers!
See you tonight braj!
Was a good one! Nothing like a casual 4 hour stream to erase the next day...
Looks/sounds tasty! Nice glass BTW!
I only use the finest Grimross glass available! Also thanks for it. Cheers!
Looks successful using regular 'rolled' oats. Most recipes i see called for 'flaked' etc. Any major differences? Looks like it worked!

Sounds good man. Good luck on the comp coming up.
Cheers, Thanks!

Was a great beer, sad it kicked so quickly which might have had something to do with only making a 2 gallon batch... Cheers!
I like the description. You should name it “Tribute”.
To the greatest IPA in the world! Cheers!
It sounds great, James! Party on!

I would love to do some side by side of first wort hopping compared to 60min hopping.

I just considered the first wort hopping the 60 min addition, although it was pretty minimal. Cheers!
