Not Another Scale Review... Anvil High Capacity Digital Grain Scale
So I picked up the Anvil Scale the other day.... again. Here's a quick overview of the Anvil Large Grain Scale. It's much bigger than the other one I reviewed way back when. Watch until the end for the real truth!
Ok, you don't have to watch until the end. The only real truth is that it is a great scale when it works and Anvil/Blichmann have a great 1 year warranty to back up their products. My original one died after a few uses, but this one is working great (at least after one use). The only potential downside to this one is that it's capacity is not as good as my other cheap Amazon scale, but the large surface area quickly makes up for it as I can't see using more than 65 lbs of grain at a time for a while.

Easy All Grain Brewing - NEIPA Kit

BrewHQ hooked me up with an all grain NEIPA kit! It was the first 20L batch I've brewed in a while and it sure was nice not having to do all the milling, measuring and prep for the brew day! Since I suck, I went and brewed the beer, had a hip replacement, kegged it, then left it in the fridge for over a year before tasting it! Looks easy but a little slower would of been more helpful I think
"Let's see if it scales?" That is great. So sorry to hear that you had a problem with the previous one. That isn't the standard, so we are glad that you took it back to Brew HQ. They are awesome. If you ever need anything don't hesitate to reach out. We appreciate all that you do for the brewing community. Cheers!!!!
Thanks again! It's great to see companies who stand by their products and make it easy! Cheers!
It's much better doing it slow, stuff can swing down while it's rolling. My best solution is the big spoon one, it just works, needs no hassle, no more equipment to clean (it's just the millionth spoon rinsing) and anyway I agitate malt a lot, it's just tastier and has better numbers that way, so one more spoon rattling is perfectly fine.
One of the best instant subscribes this year. 👆💪
I've just got a 10l mini keg to try out and to ease the pain of bottling, don't get me wrong I do well with bottle conditioning beer but if i can have at least half a batch in a cold keg for those times when I'm sharing it out it's a win. I purchased my kit with a new mini regulator as that's all i need for the setup and in uk it's about £35 for a mini reg. I got small canisters of co2 but may end up getting a sodastream bottle to save time swapping them.
@@billybass4189 Nice! Sounds like that will make things a lot easier and the price is right for sure! Cheers!
Scale
Yep. It sure is scaley.
What’s the plug for? Riveting content. Thank you.
Pretty sure it's for putting in the electronics junk drawer. I haven't actually tried plugging it in yet (shows how thorough my reviews are). Cheers!
@@PartyTimeBrewing ah right. Instead of the batteries. Ok. I was hoping it maybe came with some led disco lights to maximise the weighing experience.
@@robertschumann3840 Bluetooth connectivity and lack of disco really detract from the whole experience. Cheers!
LOL, let’s see if it scales. Good stuff
I have to use the big words when doing a thorough technical review like this. Cheers!
Hey i made my own out of an old wii fit board. And an arduino. I can even measure water in side of the boil kettle Mine cost 3.00 for a wii fit board and 20 for the arduino + 3 for a display. 😀
That's a pretty great idea!
I forced myself to watch the entire video, and I wasn't disappointed. You always deliver entertainment. Great job, as usual.
Glad you held in there! Cheers!
Hey man, I live on the other side of the city from ya! I've been looking for a cheaper/more reliable source for bulk hops. Where do you source yours (when you aren't making a brewhq kit)?
I usually just go through northwest hop farms. They seem pretty reasonable. There is a guy out pretty close to Nine Locks that sells bulk hops as well at pretty good prices. Ali's Top Hops. Just look it up on the brewnosers.org group. Cheers!
Aged for maximum flavor. It's a bold strategy, and I'm here for it!

@@theronjclark I really should do a full version of the theme! Cheers!
So, you aged an IPA a full year! Did you leave the country for a year? I can't imagine my IPAs lasting a year, although my bottled brews seem to age a lot better than my keg brews. Happy to see you back.
@@BitterRealityBrewing Not really on purpose, with the brewery getting on the go, I just never found time to crack it open and do the video review of it! Yep, I suck!
Cheers to the most DILIGAF home brewing channel on TH-cam 🍻

Can u link the water meter?
It is the fill-o-meter from kegland. Brew hq has them and they are frequently on sale for much better. When I'm at a computer I'll try to remember to link it. Cheers!
Glad to see you back to posting videos!
Thanks! I'm even up to date to have a release next week (although don't hold your breath for awesomeness!) Cheers!
WE ARE SO BACK
So back! At least for a few weeks!
Some may say we never left.. Cheers CH
It's definitely not distracting that I am staring at some random spot during the intro...
I wondered why you kept looking in that direction initially, but it added to the entertainment.
Attach the stone to the racking arm, then open the racking arm completely and allow the wort to flow downwards TO the stone, completely covering it. Then, turn on the o2 tank.
I've tried this one for sure. It still seems that it eventually pushes the wort out. I've moved to removing the racking arm when I'm just carbonating but my real solution is that I just bought a brite tank yesterday for my 1/2 bbl (60L) batches which is huge overkill for homebrewing, but seems to make sense for my setup. Cheers!
Nearly shat myself when I saw that upside down bottle. I just got this transfer hose last week and had a siphon tube installed in my 20lb tank.
I didn't know the install of the tube was an option. I'll definitely look into that and possibly try to snag a bigger tank! Upside down is a horrible plan!
@@PartyTimeBrewing a couple of the local fire extinguisher companies offer it. Cost about $20-$25.
@@slowrvr I'll look into it for sure! Or just wait for the tank to fall for another great video...
Thanks! I bought one of those transfer hoses and have been afraid to use it. You've given me the confidence to give it a whirl safely.😊
@@davidrogers6262 Based on some of the comments, I'm not sure how safe they are, but just remember to secure the tanks well! Cheers!
I think generally they use special tanks with diptubes installed for transferring. Having that tank upside-down on top of your canner is risky af
@@CommonEraBrews for sure, I'd like to pick up a 20 or more lb tank with a dip tube for filling. If I do this more often I'll definitely at least build a stand I can strap the tank to for stability. My method in the video is dangerous and sketchy AF.
So, story time. I bought one of these about 2 years ago and followed the terrible instructions that came with it. After connecting them both and opening the source tank before I could open the purge valve to purge the air... the line connecting the two burst open at the source side... the tank proceeded to turn into a rocket and shot off the table flew around in the air and smacked into the table chipping off a huge chunk. I dived behind my chair as it spun around and shot off into the kitchen impact door spiderwebbing it and then continued to spin around until I grabbed my chair and hooked it out of the air and held it down until it bled completely out. So, just a word of warning that the amazon ones COULD be defective and it can be incredibly dangerous. Good times. Also, I am no longer allowed to attempt to transfer CO2 by the wife.
Thanks for the warning. I hopefully stressed the safety thing enough in my description to let people know this can really go bad if it does... The story is also a great case for don't just balance it on the keg... brace the hell out of it! I got lucky. Cheers!
Man, I've been waiting for a solid homebrew level tutorial on how these things work for some time. Viva la Party Time!
@@MortificantVD Glad it's useful! Just be safe! Cheers!
As I said in the last video, GREAT to see your return! As soon as the video started, I remembered the one that blew in your kitchen. Funny you are doing how to fill CO2 tanks. I just bought 6 Soda Stream tanks and a filling device as I was under the impression they weren't allowed to ship pre-filled tanks, but the 6 tanks showed up full. Saved me time and money. I'll be setting up self-serve beer taps for adults at my house during Halloween. Kids get candy, and adults will get beer.
@@BitterRealityBrewing That sounds like a great idea! This CO2 transfer thing is super useful for me since I have a bunch of small tanks and a few large. It would be easy to overfill if you don't watch closely. Cheers!
So glad I found this channel - very entertaining, and great to see something not working out. Don't see that much on TH-cam. I hope you're still making these 😀

Everything is awesome! Just putting a few vids together for a quick dose of content before getting back to the brewery! Cheers!
Does it work on shirts or cloth materials ?
It does work on cloth materials. The image isn't perfect, but it does seem to label a t-shirt ok. Not sure how it would stand up to a few wash cycles but it didn't run when I put it under water. Cheers!

Hey ! Nice setup there. Which pump do you use for this setup?
I used a riptide pump originally, but now when I do it this way, I use a submersible pump which I think is 1/3HP. The riptide is just a bit too slow on the flow. Ideally, you'd have a good submersible (or really a brewery pump that is sanitary and way too much for homebrewing) and also have a valve to control flow because you want a high flow to get everything on the side of the keg, then a low flow to trickle down the spear to get anything on it. Cheers!
Enjoy your videos very much, the right amount of sarcasm, depression and humour I can handle! Well done! Go on and make more!
Thanks! I'll be putting out a few in the next couple weeks. Cheers!
You licked the can and ink sir....

What's the inverted Pentagram about?
I had to rewatch to see what you meant... It is just a t-shirt from Flying Monkeys brewery in Barrie, Ontario. Also, a quick google says it is one of the images for the church of Satan which is a bit sketchier. I prefer the Church of Skatan which was a skateboard team in the 90s.
