  • It was finally time for me to address an issue I'd been having for a while. Whenever I go round a corner and hit a bump the back end of the car feels really loose and kicks out (and not in a good way!) I'd been told the problem was more than likely axle bushes. I'd had replacement OEM ones in my shed since Christmas but never got round to fitting them, you guys had been repeatedly telling me to use polybushes, but I had OEM replacements on had and had a CRACK at those... literally! They shattered when I tried to fit them so I gave in and ordered some Powerflex bushes instead. Needless to say they fit like a dream. I would definitely recommend them to anyone wanting to simply upgrade, but also to anyone experiencing my issue and wanting to tackle the job themselves!
    I hope you enjoy the video, be sure to let me know what you think!

    Don't need to torque powerflex in the loaded position as they don't have any torsional load, good habit to get into though! 👍

    Finally, a DIY vid I can relate to! I've spent many a freezing night under my cars to fix something. Just last week, I spent 3 days on a 1-hour job due to some inaccessible loosened and thus spinning nuts in the strut tower. Things happen, as you have expertly shown. And now I want some power flex too.

    This is exatly what happened to me on my Street Ka. Tried to replace with same Ford bushes, then Bilstein ones - couldn't manage it in situ with the tool. Stripped the threads, Bent the G clamp.
    Got Powerflex bushes, pefect fit, no time at all.
    Kicking myself I wasted time and money with the previous two - Don't, Spend extra and go to Powerflex straight away.

    • @MendItModIt

      I mean I wouldn’t say they’re noticeably stiffer, I know they do the “black series” which are marketed for track use so they might be the ones if you’re looking for a stiffer ride. ThatFrozenFez will be your man to ask, he’s a MK6 wizard 🧙🏼‍♂️

      @@robsmith7430 You're right, you grease the metal sleeve. The reason being is it acts like a hinge. Without the PTFE grease, it would eventually get dry and start to potentially squeak. PTFE is waterproof and should prevent this. Although you're supposed to replace the grease every 5 years.

  • @niggelac
    @niggelac 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Hi just a quick couple of comments, but if you have a look at the instructions that came with the bushes you might notice that you have fitted the bushes in the wrong way, the big lip is supposed to be on the outside of the axle and also when removing the old ones they also have a similar lip on the outside of the axle which might explain why you had so many problems with the tools, trying to push it out the wrong direction?

    • @MendItModIt
      @MendItModIt  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, thanks for your comment but I don’t see how you think they’re the wrong way round. They go back in the same way as the OEM ones come out which is with the lip on the inside. I pushed the OEM bushes out the right way (in hindsight, if I was to do it again I’d drill the centres out and cut the outer plastic sleeve). But if you check Powerflex’s website, you’ll see that for the MK6, I have fitted these correctly: www.powerflexsuspensionbushes.co.uk/powerflex-rear-beam-mounting-bush-pfr19-1105-for-ford-fiesta-mk6-inc-st-2002-2008-89159-p.asp

    This video shows how difficult it is to get these rear bushes out. They are a nightmare. A big fail by Ford with these bushes and all the agro to remove them. Even the pros hate doing them. I am told the best procedure is use a hole saw to cut the centre of the bush out then saw then hacksaw the outer bush, or chisle it out. But as for putting in new bushes,who knows, look at the damage done to the ordinary bushes! Should people really have to buy Powerflex bushes?

  • @orsoncart9441
    @orsoncart9441 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    With the extractor you do not do what you did in the video. You do not keep constantly turning a ratchet like you did. The heat build up in threads due to the loading will destroy them. If you use an extractor you do half a turn and wait or even back off an 1/8 of a turn and then do half a turn again and stop for a second or so. Just stopping turning for a second or so lets the heat dissipate and the extractor works without stripping the threads. Slow and easy is the way.

    FCK that tool , get a good drill and make holes in the rubber ,i use a gas torch heat the rubber and pull the centre out ,, that bush tool is ok for fitting the new bush not removing it , if the bolts are a pain in the arse to get off ,i use an angle grinder to cut through the nut
