He was 25 years old when he sang Cara Mia the first time in 1965 & sounds exactly the same 46 years later in another video on TH-cam, check it out. He sings with the Alley Cats 50 years later. Hell of a nice guy I met him several times & got his autograph. He was still able to hit all the notes into his 70s. Sadly he's retired now but deserves the rest!

I had the priviledge of seeing Jay Black (of Jay and the Americans) in a live concert about 10 years ago and he STILL sounds every bit as good as he did in the 1960's. He hasn't lost any of his talent or vocal skills. Yes, he's a bit older, but still an AMAZING performer and artist who brought his audience to tears! Bravo, Mr. Black! Well done!

Wasn't his voice incredible? I say was because he died today and I'm heartbroken. This Magic Moment is beautiful too. Come a Little Bit Closer is a fun song. And some of the videos on TH-cam show him showing off a bit and showing just how long he could hold some of those notes in Cara Mia. God bless you Jay, R.I.P.

I'll tell you what, I saw him a few times at oldie shows and I thought Gary Puckett was incredible, but when I say Jay Black in his late 60s singing Cara Mia, it freaking blew me away how a gentleman at that age could sing like that. So sad when he passed, but he touched a lot of people and had a nice life.

As each new generation hears even a couple of hits from the '60s they want to hear more so these songs will never die.

When you're brought up listening to crap and what passes for singers and music today, of course you're suprised by real music and a real singer.

Tell me about it! I was born in 1980 so I grew up listening to stuff from both ends of the spectrum anything from about 1955 upto about 2005 ish... Not too much after 2005 except maybe Pentatonix. As I got older, I became more grateful for my parents as they grew up in the early 50s and 60s... This was there era it the 60s anything from about 56-7 up into about 74-6 was the best era of music ever! The 60s has become my favorite decade of music!

Hey!!! Every generation is going to have people who are adventurous and curious enough to listen to a few of the classics and then they will want to hear more. That is why this music will never die.

I've heard the saying many times ...
    There's Elvis.
    There's Roy.
    And there's Jay.

There's more to this guy than you realize. He was the entertainer/singer to the mafia. He was a John Gotti favorite. Jay sang at Gotti's daughters wedding. When Gotti went on trial, Jay Black was in attendance each and everyday as noted by the FBI.
