I'm on my wife's account, but I used to sing along when I was about 3 ... and all along the rest... and now I'm a pro singer; and that voice was so difficult to sing when I was YOUNG... because of his thick tone... I can nail it now... but starting so young and singing along gave me almost too much range... and I could hit the notes early, just no tone!

Life was so great when we could hear music like this on the radio and it was an everyday occurrence. We just didn't know how good we had it back then. Thank you for spotlighting where Jay holds the sustaining note and then follows it up with more singing. I always thought that was one of the defining moments of rock and roll. Just found your channel and subscribed….I learned accordion as a kid, forgotten much of it, but can still read music and picked up a piano keyboard to teach myself…thanks for sharing the keyboard and his C5 range, I just relearned octaves! Also you might look into a duet by Roy Orbison and K.D. Lang…”Crying.” Will be watching more of your videos, thanks for sharing your musical knowledge with those of us who also love music…as a 70’s hard rocker, I would also recommend you looking into a guy who died too early just a month after I saw his concert….Tommy Bolin….fantastic guitar…anything off his “Teaser” album would be appreciated or even the album with “Post Toastie.”

I was hoping you'd do a bit on Jay, such a strong contributor to the cantor chorus as a youth and a major artist in the 60's. As you mentioned, classically trained, and also fluent in Yiddish. I did sound in the 60's, I witnessed him giving very memorable live performances that sometimes turned a routine 1-hour show into 2-2.5 hours, the audiences simply couldn't get enough. Handling logistics when shows were extended became a serious challenge, but few complained because of the quality of the performances. A pleasure to work with, and knowing him was a gift. RIP David ...

Well,I didn't see this one coming...A very under-rated vocalist,Jay provided so many great vocal performances with Jay and The Americans, and "Cara Mia" certainly didn't disappoint. He should always be thought of in the same light as Bobby Hatfield and Lou Christie, even Paul Da Vinci, who could all produce these impressive vocal histrionics - a great upload dude, and so sad to hear about Jays passing.

Another old dude here, sitting up and taking it all in. This man was without equal. He took a phenomenal show tune, "Some Enchanted Evening," from South Pacific, and transformed it into a top 40 hit. Everything Jay And The Americans recorded left other groups in awe. They still do! Thank you for giving tribute to Jay Black. He so deserved it.
