I saw Jay and the Americans years ago. They performed at the skating rink in Warren, Ohio. I enjoyed the music so much. Thank you Jay for sharing your music and your wonderful voice. I will never forget that.
Jay's voice was like fine wine, it got better, richer and more passionate as he aged. He had a great vocal range, (7 octaves???)and was one of the most under-rated singers of all time, IMO. RIP Jay and Happy heavenly birthday!
Life was so great when we could hear music like this on the radio and it was an everyday occurrence. We just didn't know how good we had it back then. Thank you for spotlighting where Jay holds the sustaining note and then follows it up with more singing. I always thought that was one of the defining moments of rock and roll. Some time back I saw an interview where Jay Black stated that his vocal ability came to him naturally! He stated that he had never been classically trained and did not "warm up" before singing. He stated "I just open my mouth and it comes out". Marvelous voice.. He will be greatly missed!

This was always a favorite song with jay black it’s beautiful may he Rest In Peace
Have never been quite able to figure out when Jay breathes during this song! Simply incredible!
Great voice, great number , RIP , Jay , you just had to be alive back then , the music , the cars , America was still reeling from the greatness of the 1950's , people had higher moral standards .
Thank you for this. So many people are unaware of Jay and his wonderful work. Truly a generational talent, he will be missed.
I saw Jay and the Americans play with a little known band (Huey Lewis and the News) back in 1982. Jay commanded the stage while Huey kept trying to get people to come closer to the stage…Jay was amazing.
I’ve always loved Jay Black 😄♥️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ so sorry to hear of his passing. Thank you for doing this analysis of his singing.
I was watching you as Jay was singing and it was so precious to see you so intently listening and smiling and appreciating him, from musician to musician, that camaraderie and that attention, I was just mesmerized by your gracious listening to Mr. black, when you yourself are such a tremendous musician. It just shows what a beautiful person you are and such an excellent musician as well. Thank you very much for being you!!
My best to you this day and every day forward 👍🤗⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️🎵🎶🎶🎵🎶
I remember watching this. I was SO impressed that he hit "the" note that I went to his private page and sent him a message saying so.
I still get chills seeing this.
I remember when this song came out in the '60's. Loved it then, still love it. R.I.P. Jay Black. Your style and music will live on.
