I have to say I like this new format for watching you and still like getting your input on issues in, on, and about the US. Not being an American, and watching in horror since 2016 the implosion of US politics and the types of government coming out of them, I can't help but shudder at how it seems so reminiscent and patterned after the rise of Nazism and the destruction of WW2. Even the backdrop for your videos seems so evocative for how and where the resistance fighters of Europe during that time would give and get their "news" and "truths" and broadcast to those who were "conquered". The only thing missing is your squared off microphone. Your perspectives are enlightening and despite their disturbing subjects are calming as it gives me a sense of relief that not all of America is nuts!
There are lots and lots of sensible Americans, we're just not allowed very much power at all. The tRumpers have bullied almost everyone who opposes them into keeping quiet in their corner. It's very frustrating to live through.
On the Warhammer 40K question: the reason it's a big deal on the internet but not at your game store is because your game store, and the people in it, don't make money off of rage bait.
Well I think it's disgusting to swap out big butch guys for women. It changes everything about the game play. If a woman walks into the area the men will courteously stand up making them easy targets! (No - never played so don't know what I'm talking about. Just thought I'd complain anyway!)
As a 40k fan I can concur on this. In fact I have absolutely despised the growing online discourse surrounding 40k because of how it's been co-opted by so many far-right idiots who don't understand that it's Grimdark Fantasy. They constantly try to justify the actions of the imperium of mankind. The whole point of the setting is there ARE NO GOOD GUYS it's a setting that is about survival and the very real grey area surrounding actions necessary for survival. I'm sorry, but based on the lore alone, I'm sure the Emperor of Mankind would actually hate it if he was conscious enough to know thousands are sacrificed daily to maintain his unresponsive state. Which is the point. The Emperor became that which he despised because he didn't tale the precautions necessary to ensure autonomy of human civilization. He is, at the same time, an allegory for the hubris and the selflessness of humankind. The current imperium of man are fascist because it's more compelling in the setting itself. They are EXTREME conformity amidst both figurative and literal chaos. This doesn't make them good. It just makes it a survival strategy that has thus far worked... but definitely not for the betterment of mankind. In the workshops... this is understood and you actually have a very diverse group of people engaged in the hobby. Online? It's a cesspool that those of us who have been doing this for a while were able to check and deter from gaining a foothold, because we actually really dislike the idea of using faction behaviors as a blueprint to live yoyr life by. But, with social media and the way information is spread so quickly it's almost impossible to check this behavior online. But the workshops and game stores have become a lot more strict in sportsmanship policy as a means of weeding out clearly bad ideology. It's not perfect, but it's taken seriously.
I haven't read the whole chain, but I think this was done ham-fistedly deliberately to try an generate free advertising. They could have written some wonderful reason that fits with plot and everything. Heroes with the first female-sourced Astartes, etc, but then there would be complaints anyways. This way they make the worst possible decision first and everyone complains so you fix it to the intended reason once the outrage gets to the point of sales dropping.

And totally accurate to the lore and world building. 40k a GIGANTIC story line that is: 1. Scifi horror 2. Societal horror. 3. Space opera 4. Lovecraftian horror. 5. Social commentary 6. SCIFI military storyline. 7. THERE IS NO "GOOD" SIDE. Did I mention horror. They finished one story arch recently that had 64 books published, not including short stories. As an audio book they ranged from 8 to 18 hours. They also have a crime and a horror range, a horror range in 40k😂, it is very confronting, because you can see people making the same decisions and actions. 32 years a fan. 32 years of story evolution. I recently started listening to luten09’s lore videos out of curiosity. And I’m absolutely loving it! Out of the 142 videos in the lore playlist I’ve only got to the 62nd one lol. To me, I don’t know enough about the custodians to have a good opinion on them. But when the new news came out about the custodians I was like… “ok… so? In some places, such as Pennsylvania, the direct number to the police is not available to the public. There is no non-emergency number. When I lived there, I was told that I have to report parking problems, and other non-emergency problems through 911 - and I worked in the 911 system in a neighboring area. This is one of the problems with 911 that the 911 system is trying to fix, but getting emergency preparedness people to agree on something takes a long time, and often only happens after a very public failure. .

I'm really starting to think that what's happening in America. And specifically with the parties. Is US finally coming to the realization that we need to break up the two-party system. And officially have names for different parties that truly represent the country.
I remain skeptical. Mainly because other systems also form majority and minority governments, and that can take years in the extremes. Having a two party system just means that part is presorted. I think ending gerrymandering, fixing the urban/rural divide, and getting money out of politics {ending oligarchy} will accomplish all the goals that a multiparty system would address. Sadly, it's not just 40k. Catalyst Game Labs, the folks who make the BattleTech and Shadowrun tabletop games, put out an anthology for pride last year. Folks are still arguing over it online. At my local gaming store the response was basically "oh, hey, cool... shall we get to the game now?"

Context for the Warhammer40K kerfuffle--it was a leak, pages the the Custodes codex (army rulebook) were leaked online, showing a 2-pg short story and a sidebar with female Custodes and that's it. Note that every codex of every army in every edition introduces new units, rules, and stories. There are 10 editions as of this writing. Custodes only became a playable army in 7th. The stat line for a Custodes doesn’t change b/c one's male or female, both deal the same damage, take the same wounds, etc. Some of the people very vocally upset are lore purists, who for the most part do not collect/paint the minis for the tabletop game, do not play the videogames, or even read the books. They watch videos and wikis about WH40K. Some don't even do that.
After watching the first season of Reacher, and honestly living it. I was a little afraid to know more about Alan Ritchson. Then, several things of him popped up on my feed. I'm not a religious person, but if more religious people were like Ritchson, I might be more tolerant of it. Most American 40k fans pronounce the name of the Custodian Guard, a.k.a. the "Adeptus Custodes" as "uh DEP tus cuss TOE deez" but as that term is notionally a plural, it creates a little confusion as to nomenclature when referring to just one of them. Older fans just call it "a custodian".
I have a yard sign that has Bender Rodriguez for President 2024 and under it it says "you meat bags had your chance" I stand by it, lol. About McConnell and Johnson reminds me of the song in Hamilton "In the Room Where it Happened" I see politics as that song. You might have what your constituents want in your head, but you have what YOU want and you walk into a private room with either other a few other politicians or now people who are giving out dark money and no one really knows what happens in that room when it happened other than those players. So, long term Warhammer fan. The short version is that 40K has a long running joke (going back about 30 years now) about Female Space Marines; decades ago, Games Workshop said all Space Marines were male, and you couldn't make female ones. People being people, they fanon'd them anyway, and it was always a reliable source to start a debate/troll a lot. Custodes (Kust-Oh-Dees) are seen as Super Space Marines, so Space Marines on steroids. Due to this, people are holding them now having female members as a gateway to female space marines coming into the lore. To which I say - cool, I want new characters, new minis. Warhammer, though, has an actual problem with attracting fascists; enough that people have shown up to official tourneys wearing Nazi iconography, and Games Workshop has had to go on record saying "You do get these are the bad guys, right?"

What's been happening in 40k has been happening in a lot of other communities as well. These type of people were also claiming Helldivers 2 wasn't political despite how obviously it was inspired by Starship Troopers until they found some tweets by one of the development studio staff. Suddenly it's about how they were tricked. Another one is when the latest Gundam show took off and a lot of them were upset about how the lead couple were lesbian because, you know, previously releasing a show during the height of the war on terror with a middle-eastern child terrorist main protagonist whose overt goal was to overturn the status quo wasn't a big enough signal.
I'm surprised you didn't go into more details on the ISS trash hitting a home. The implications for public safety alone are pretty huge, let alone the ecological problems of vaporizing heavy metals...etc in the atmosphere.

In some places, such as Pennsylvania, the direct number to the police is not available to the public. There is no non-emergency number. When I lived there, I was told that I have to report parking problems, and other non-emergency problems through 911 - and I worked in the 911 system in a neighboring area. This is one of the problems with 911 that the 911 system is trying to fix, but getting emergency preparedness people to agree on something takes a long time, and often only happens after a very public failure.

On the Warhammer thing, the people online that are upset about it don’t actually play 40k, they just want to be mad.
Luetin here on TH-cam just made a great video showing how this isn’t really even a retcon, just more of a specification, and that this has been alluded to far in the past.

Context for the Warhammer40K kerfuffle--it was a leak, pages the the Custodes codex (army rulebook) were leaked online, showing a 2-pg short story and a sidebar with female Custodes and that's it. Note that every codex of every army in every edition introduces new units, rules, and stories. There are 10 editions as of this writing. Custodes only became a playable army in 7th.
The stat line for a Custodes doesn’t change b/c one's male or female, both deal the same damage, take the same wounds, etc.
Some of the people very vocally upset are lore purists, who for the most part do not collect/paint the minis for the tabletop game, do not play the videogames, or even read the books. They watch videos and wikis about WH40K. Some don't even do that.

I'm not a religious person, but if more religious people were like Ritchson, I might be more tolerant of it. Most American 40k fans pronounce the name of the Custodian Guard, a.k.a. the "Adeptus Custodes" as "uh DEP tus cuss TOE deez" but as that term is notionally a plural, it creates a little confusion as to nomenclature when referring to just one of them.
Older fans just call it "a custodian".
I have a yard sign that has Bender Rodriguez for President 2024 and under it it says "you meat bags had your chance" I stand by it, lol. About McConnell and Johnson reminds me of the song in Hamilton "In the Room Where it Happened" I see politics as that song. You might have what your constituents want in your head, but you have what YOU want and you walk into a private room with either other a few other politicians or now people who are giving out dark money and no one really knows what happens in that room when it happened other than those players. But in the end decisions were made, money possibly exchanged, and we won't know until we see the votes and the end results.

So, long term Warhammer fan. The short version is that 40K has a long running joke (going back about 30 years now) about Female Space Marines; decades ago, Games Workshop said all Space Marines were male, and you couldn't make female ones. People being people, they fanon'd them anyway, and it was always a reliable source to start a debate/troll a lot. Custodes (Kust-Oh-Dees) are seen as Super Space Marines, so Space Marines on steroids. Due to this, people are holding them now having female members as a gateway to female space marines coming into the lore. To which I say - cool, I want new characters, new minis. Warhammer, though, has an actual problem with attracting fascists; enough that people have shown up to official tourneys wearing Nazi iconography, and Games Workshop has had to go on record saying "You do get these are the bad guys, right?"
Maybe Bender will be on our side for the right enticements.

What's been happening in 40k has been happening in a lot of other communities as well. These type of people were also claiming Helldivers 2 wasn't political despite how obviously it was inspired by Starship Troopers until they found some tweets by one of the development studio staff. Suddenly it's about how they were tricked. Another one is when the latest Gundam show took off and a lot of them were upset about how the lead couple were lesbian because, you know, previously releasing a show during the height of the war on terror with a middle-eastern child terrorist main protagonist whose overt goal was to overturn the status quo wasn't a big enough signal.
