NI voted to remain in the EU and the majority of parties pleaded to remain in the customs union but have been ignored. England has no concern whatsoever for what is actually in the best interest of NI.

It doesn't matter with how much clarity this MP explains the circumstances in which Clause 38 could be brought into effect. The interviewer continually badgers for a different answer that the MP can just not give. There is no alternative to His answer. The potential circumstance is a very real threat by the EU to put a blockade between Northern Ireland and Britain if there is a no deal. The EU woman when taken to task stumbled her answer in protest to the UK stance on this matter because it is plainly obvious to her to the EU to this interviewer and I suspect to the National community that Great Britain has every right to secure the sovereign integrity of it's internal markets.

Its not about if the BBC agree or disagree with anyones narrative. They should be independent and not express any view either way. The BBC recieveds its funding on the agreement it remains impartial. Therefore it should not use language that implies left of right is right or wrong. Or in this case any othe the three guests An example of impartiality and misleading by suggestion was; the interviewer stated as if it were fact that the bill would break international law! That is an incorrect fact. There are many legal experts with differnt legal opinions on this, but this being legal or ilegal can only be established in a court. That is a clear example of bias. I want to fight to end Tory rule but I find continuing to live in this country a real struggle. There cannot be a hard border between the Ireland and the rest of the EU, there cannot be a hard border between Ireland and Northern Ireland, and there cannot be a hard border between Northern Ireland and the rest of the UK. Thus Brexit has always been a *mathematical* impossibility, like 2+2 being 22. Yet, back before being PM, Boris and Nigel convinced a majority of the Brits that 2+2 could be 22, if only they wanted it to be. So the Brits voted for an irrevocable decision that 2+2 shall be 22; and they elected Boris because he promised that he would get it done by the end of that year. Naturally, neither Boris nor the EU could figure out a way to make 2+2 be 22. But the EU, not wanting to be a party spoiler, agreed with the general idea of 2+2 possibly somehow yielding 22, and gave the UK a generous deadline to come up with a solution. Naturally, the UK could not find any solution. So Boris is now trying to pass a law that says that 4 shall be 22, explicitly violating all laws of international trade, of the UK, and of mathematics...
Does anyone buy Peter Lilley's line of argument at all? It goes like this, we want to pass this law that allows us to change the Withdrawal Agreement (that was signed by this same sitting Tory Government, and sold by this Prime Minister) when things don't work out the way the UK wants by Dec 31st. So imagine this, the UK's food standards are currently the same as the EU's. But if the UK and the US sign an FTA, and US agri-animal products come into the UK, what would prevent these products from moving to the EU via Northern Ireland and the Republic? Growth hormone US beef, chlorinated chicken, etc. Would it be ok if the EU also add a clause that upon violation of any such import of non-sanctioned agri-products, that the UK will be liable for damages and all costs for removal/withdrawal and restitution to affected parties? Would that be fair?

Boris made a very clear and rationale explanation. Ed Miliband’s reply was just too painfully silly to sit through. No wonder Labour lost the general election. As for the BBC, they bring forth objector after objector after objector. No attempt at presenting an equal number of proponents. I used to be so proud of the BBC, say twenty years ago. What a sorry state they are now. Doesn’t the BBC realize that the majority of the British people voted for Boris and want our country to do well under him. What's to be impartial about? The UK and the EU agreed on a mechanism to resolve disputes. The UK PM signed it, hailed it as a massive victory, won an election on the back of it and rushed it through parliament at breakneck speed when it might have been blocked. See, this is the problem now. These idiots in parliament started by negotiating 'a deal' rather than drawing up and setting our terms for Exit and asking the EU for a clear yes or no to these terms and as soon they said no, we should have just defaulted to a no deal scenario without question and tried negotiating with them later to see if some things could be amended exclusively for the UK. But now, parliament are in the shit because they have been negotiating every key detail leading up to our exit as if it matters.
Perhaps the Eu response to the bill is just anger because it’s exactly what they were going to do. My understanding is that this bill gives the commons powers but isn’t a breach of international law until it is enacted. If we leave without a deal then attempts by Brussels to control our internal market would be a more significant breach of international president than the use of this bill to defend sovereignty
As a foreigner I can tell you that everybody in the world can see that the UK's formal agreement to international treaties isn't worth the paper it's written on any longer, Lord Lilley. Yes the negotiations are difficult but that doesn't mean you can just renege on agreements you already made.

This is Johnson's treaty and the only pressure Johnson was under was his own idiotic deadline to leave by January 31. The one who's clearly hostile here is the UK by implementing "assurance policies" that aren't part of the agreement and give the UK the power to unilaterally alter the agreement (imagine if the EU would do the same and just rewrite the WA to May's original proposal without the UK's agreement). The UK has to face the fact that it is bound by international treaty in Northern Ireland and that it simply can't both keep NI. free of EU influence while at the same time maintaining an open border with the Republic of Ireland as per Good Friday Agreement. You simply can't have both and it's bloody time some realism kicks in about the situation in NI.

He then called a general election, this resulted in the power he needed to supply this insurance policy. The oven ready deal will still work if the EU play ball, if not then he knows the UK can overrule them. It has been blown out of proportion and isn't a problem if the EU are in good faith. But, all this could have been avoided if the EU were willing to give the UK some concessions in the Cameron era. Instead they acted arrogantly and gave nothing believing they would easily win the vote if it happened.

The interviewer continually badgers for a different answer that the MP can just not give. There is no alternative to His answer. The potential circumstance is a very real threat by the EU to put a blockade between Northern Ireland and Britain if there is a no deal. The EU woman when taken to task stumbled her answer in protest to the UK stance on this matter because it is plainly obvious to her to the EU to this interviewer and I suspect to the National community that Great Britain has every right to secure the sovereign integrity of it's internal markets.

There cannot be a hard border between the Ireland and the rest of the EU, there cannot be a hard border between Ireland and Northern Ireland, and there cannot be a hard border between Northern Ireland and the rest of the UK. Thus Brexit has always been a *mathematical* impossibility, like 2+2 being 22.
Yet, back before being PM, Boris and Nigel convinced a majority of the Brits that 2+2 could be 22, if only they wanted it to be. So the Brits voted for an irrevocable decision that 2+2 shall be 22; and they elected Boris because he promised that he would get it done by the end of that year.
Naturally, neither Boris nor the EU could figure out a way to make 2+2 be 22. But the EU, not wanting to be a party spoiler, agreed with the general idea of 2+2 possibly somehow yielding 22, and gave the UK a generous deadline to come up with a solution.
Naturally, the UK could not find any solution. So Boris is now trying to pass a law that says that 4 shall be 22, explicitly violating all laws of international trade, of the UK, and of mathematics...
Does anyone buy Peter Lilley's line of argument at all? It goes like this, we want to pass this law that allows us to change the Withdrawal Agreement (that was signed by this same sitting Tory Government, and sold by this Prime Minister) when things don't work out the way the UK wants by Dec 31st. So imagine this, the UK's food standards are currently the same as the EU's. But if the UK and the US sign an FTA, and US agri-animal products come into the UK, what would prevent these products from moving to the EU via Northern Ireland and the Republic? Growth hormone US beef, chlorinated chicken, etc. Would it be ok if the EU also add a clause that upon violation of any such import of non-sanctioned agri-products, that the UK will be liable for damages and all costs for removal/withdrawal and restitution to affected parties? Would that be fair?

The Withdrawal Agreement is an international treaty subject to the Vienna Convention with jurisdiction by the International Court of Justice. The question whether or not the UK is justified in amending, clarifying, or cancelling the treaty is a matter for the Court. Not a flock of headless chickens.

What you say may well be true but the problem is that the government signed off on the withdrawal agreement last year, if they had a problem it should’ve been raised then but it seems in their haste to get it finished they missed the possibility of this current situation developing. Boris made a very clear and rationale explanation. Ed Miliband’s reply was just too painfully silly to sit through. No wonder Labour lost the general election. As for the BBC, they bring forth objector after objector after objector. No attempt at presenting an equal number of proponents. I used to be so proud of the BBC, say twenty years ago. What a sorry state they are now. Doesn’t the BBC realize that the majority of the British people voted for Boris and want our country to do well under him. What's to be impartial about? The UK and the EU agreed on a mechanism to resolve disputes. The UK PM signed it, hailed it as a massive victory, won an election on the back of it and rushed it through parliament at breakneck speed when it might have been blocked. Now the same PM is attempting to distance himself from his own deal. I challenge anyone to find anything I've written which is actually factually incorrect.

@@catinthehat906 Canada is in good company with many states in the US doing the same and following good practice in Uruguay and probably more. Their law came before acting upon a number of options to make it fully in line with international law.
In Germany there was never an intention to break international law. Germany was therefor a good faith actor and corrected things afterwards. The UK on the other hand singed the WA with the explicit intend to break the a core factor of the agreement later on in order to get the WA through parliament. That is very simply put untrustworthy which will have serious consequences when trying for instance to get trade agreements.

These idiots in parliament started by negotiating 'a deal' rather than drawing up and setting our terms for Exit and asking the EU for a clear yes or no to these terms and as soon they said no, we should have just defaulted to a no deal scenario without question and tried negotiating with them later to see if some things could be amended exclusively for the UK. But now, parliament are in the shit because they have been negotiating every key detail leading up to our exit as if it matters.

Perhaps the Eu response to the bill is just anger because it’s exactly what they were going to do.
My understanding is that this bill gives the commons powers but isn’t a breach of international law until it is enacted.
If we leave without a deal then attempts by Brussels to control our internal market would be a more significant breach of international president than the use of this bill to defend sovereignty

As a foreigner I can tell you that everybody in the world can see that the UK's formal agreement to international treaties isn't worth the paper it's written on any longer, Lord Lilley. Yes the negotiations are difficult but that doesn't mean you can just renege on agreements you already made.

Anyone with half a brain can see the original deal was made under duress with the EU bullying the UK when Boris had no majority. He subsequently won a huge majority and is fixing this wrong, which if the EU aren't going to be hostile isn't really a problem, its just an insurance policy that the mainland UK can supply to its own territory.

Anyone with half a brain still remembers that it was May who was under duress and that her proposal was rejected 3x in parliament after which she resigned, then Johnson became PM, renegotiated the Irish Protocol and forced the Tory MPs to vote it into law by literally throwing everyone who refused to out of the party. This is Johnson's treaty and the only pressure Johnson was under was his own idiotic deadline to leave by January 31.
The one who's clearly hostile here is the UK by implementing "assurance policies" that aren't part of the agreement and give the UK the power to unilaterally alter the agreement (imagine if the EU would do the same and just rewrite the WA to May's original proposal without the UK's agreement). The UK has to face the fact that it is bound by international treaty in Northern Ireland and that it simply can't both keep NI. free of EU influence while at the same time maintaining an open border with the Republic of Ireland as per Good Friday Agreement. You simply can't have both and it's bloody time some realism kicks in about the situation in NI.

@@JerehmiaBoaz Its not silly, Boris wrote it into law because he had a small parliament and saboteur remainers were doing everything they could to scupper Brexit. He then called a general election, this resulted in the power he needed to supply this insurance policy. The oven ready deal will still work if the EU play ball, if not then he knows the UK can overrule them. It has been blown out of proportion and isn't a problem if the EU are in good faith.
But, all this could have been avoided if the EU were willing to give the UK some concessions in the Cameron era. Instead they acted arrogantly and gave nothing believing they would easily win the vote if it happened.
