the effortless weaving in and out of bits and deep truths is so impressive
It's surprisingly easy, it's just hard to do good. Especially hard doing it good over an extended time.
Where ever I thought this episode of podcast is going, I really did not expect it to go to where it is. Lots of food for thought. Thank you to both Pete and Jimmy for your minds. 🙏
The thing about laughter being contagious is true. Back in 1993 me and my buddy went to see the movie "Alive" about the soccer team who crashed in the Andes and how they survived. Well during the plane crash sequence they were showing people getting sucked out of the plane, the wings snapping off or people bouncing around inside the plane and as a kid of the 70's I found it funny as a throwback to all the 70's plane disaster movies. I started belly laughing and by the time the plane came to rest in the snow with it's wings snapped off the entire audience in the theater was roaring with laughter. One of the survivors goes to check on the dying pilot who says " I"m thirsty" and the audience roared even louder. It was supposed to be a serious dramatic scene but because one person found it funny it changed the audiences' reaction to it. It was very strange and unexpected.
I had the same response when Murphy in Robocop was first shot up. The audience didn't follow suit, but my reason was because it reminded me of Monty Python violence.
Most dapper guest ever. Why do I feel like Jimmy sleeps in a suit? What a legend, British panel shows will never be the same.
Bc you haven’t heard of pajamas?
Listening to this while driving in my carr
I'm sitting in my Holme
I wish there was a third pun to make so we could get an applause break
horrible...
You made it weird
Can you repete that?
Y'all... I have been in various types of therapy for 20 years and I've never heard about re-coding your traumatic memories. That is huge and is going to help me so much!! Much love to you both, and thank you for all the laughs. Comedy & therapy are my favorite things, this is such an amazing blend of both.
I love Pete and Jimmy, they’re two of the funniest comics in the world ❤ I’m happy I’ve had the chance to see them both do stand up
I love Pete's come back to your a man child was a Toy Story reference.
The Roman saying Jimmy was trying to remember is "Non fui, fui, non sum, non curo" or NFFNSNC - it means "I was not, I was, I am not, I do not care". INRI is an initialism of Iesus Nazarenus, Rex Iudaeorum, which translates to "Jesus the Nazarene, King of the Jews".
Every conversation with Jimmy Carr is a delight.
I love jimmy Carr so much! I love Pete Holmes so much! The two of you together is my favorite thing!
“God is the name of the blanket we put over the mystery to give it a shape” -Barry Taylor, AC/DC Road Manager
These guys are a great combination of comics to listen to. Very intuitive but hilarious at the same time.
As soon as I saw this I thought: "So perfect. Pete loves being given shit. Jimmy loves giving people shit." I forgot that it's also two very intelligent, thoughtful, and respectful dudes.
Always nice to watch another therapy session with Dr. Carr :D
The cigarette/meditation conversation reminds me of the group in "The Leftovers".
Jimmy is hilarious. Pete you're no slub either. I really enjoyed this chat between you two. So glad you're coming to Houston, will see you here.
Can't wait!
Great guest Pete! You and Jimmy make very interesting conversation! Thank you!
20 years ago, I saw the last episode of a TV series about an Anglican priest who travelled the world interviewing leaders of different faiths. He concluded that the truth was probably in the commonality. For myself as an atheist seeking comfort, I also obsess on the subject As a composer I have created and taught a course on the emotional language of music at the University of Victoria, here in Canada. My dream is now to combine these ideas with Jimmy carr who recently talked about wanting to write a book about the emotional language of comedy. My experience also includes improvisational comedy as a musical Director with Second City and many other comedy groups. So I’m gonna leave this comment here as a “prayer “for Pete, Jimmy and myself to get together and collaborate on a serious project that in my view could save the world. ❤
I'm an American. I find it odd that all these Americans interview Jimmy and I believe it's zero percent of American interviewers mention Sean Lock. What a brilliant, brilliant man and a genius comic taken way too soon. He and Jimmy made over 300 television shows together and were very good friends and colleagues. RIP Sean. You were funny as fuck.
Thank you! This episode brought me to TH-cam for a second listen/watch and so sorry I have not subscribed before now. Love all of your work and sharing with us all Pete, and have watched countless hours of 8 out of 10 cats, and the count down version and the big fat quiz's with Jimmy and his stand up are my comfort listens. Big fan of both of you, thanks for all the joy you bring.
Jimmy is such an amazing joke writer
I love the Goosebumps and the villain in Toy Story 4 image! Lmao
Holly shit this episode is gut bustingly funny. Im cackling. These 2 are so fun to listen to
When Pete was describing Jesus, for a second, I thought he was describing Batman… run with the ball Gotham!!!
I think Gotham is actually named after the Bhudda.
Two of my favorite people. Very interesting and insightful.
I really appreciated this, I got something out of it, thanks.
SO pleased to watch this. Love You BOTH.
Great interview I enjoyed Jimmy but now I love his mind
That insight about video games simulating a career blew my mind
A great one! Enjoyed your book Pete! Waiting on the next one. Maybe???
Ohhh this is going to be good
After Midnight is awaiting you, Pete!!
2 of my favorite comedians together...great podcast
Had to play this at "normal speed" instead of 1.5. Thanks!
fortune cookie (I would assume that is an old Chinese saying): "He who knows he has enough is rich"
@Pete can I ask what type of belt are you wearing? We have similar body types, and I have a hard time finding the right belt. Ty if you see this. Love you and the voice you give for those of us that don't have a platform to share such as yours.
The "Jerry who?" bit is wild because I had that exact conversation with somebody that was talking to me about comedians we've met.
“You can’t have an easy life and a great character”. 26:21 Profound.
That's right. Everybody, wherever he goes, gives Jimmy the CLAP.
Jimmy says at one point the secret to life is enjoying the passage of time reflects James Taylor’s song
Liked Pete but after the Newcomers podcast where he shared his Keaton Batman love and the Flash films positives, I knew I found a kindred spirit. ❤
Loving this episode. Has anyone else thought that Pete could believably portray Milton Berle. perhaps in the future. Don't quite know why.
There are two kinds of people in this world: Dualists and Non-dualists. I’m the second type.
This joke came to me during the episode and had to share. 😂😂😂
That's not a joke. There's no premise or setup or punchline. You're just a non dueler. Which is a thing, I'm being told?
@@jaredknapp8886 The setup is setting up a binary, dualistic premise by saying “There are two types of people in the world.” Non-dualists, by definition try to avoid looking at the world in a binary way. The punchline is the last sentence, identifying myself as a Non-Dualist, even though the entire premise is a dualistic thought. So the person telling the joke is the butt of the joke because the statement immediately contradicts the claim they’re making.
I don’t know… I think it’s funny. Maybe it’s not as funny as I think it is; but i do think it qualifies as a joke.
My dad always told me to put a Jimmy on my Pete but I didnt know this is what he meant 🧐
1:40:03 Was anyone else hoping/expecting Pete to say “I edited it!” 😭 it’s too many daddits 😁
.. notice my comment? I edited it 🥰
Goddamn Pete, this IS a good one you were right. You are my favorite now. Let it settle.
One thing I'm really curious about, is that a Paul Pope Batman canvas hanging on the wall behind Pete?
Pete should voice The Joker in animated DC shows/movies
Superb chat. Truly covered some topics I needed today. Thank you.
Lov jimmy carr jokes
You two sound like crazy people ❤
"Nobody sees Oppenheimer and says 'That was luck.'" Jimmy, are you compering unaware of Malcom Gladwell?
I was like “why the aeugshhhhh sound familiar” and then I realized that guy is the parody Batman
1:38:58 this precious smile
46:55 Happiness = Comfort - Envy - Apathy
I truly enjoyed this conversation.
Greatest suit ever
You guys need to read Robert Sapolsky's new book Determined.
INRI stands for IESVUS NAZARENVS REX IVDÆORVM (Jesus of Nazareth, King of the Jews). The Romans were taunting the dude they just tortured to death, not giving him a nice little "rest in peace" kind of message where he died.
The Sanhedrin taunting Jesus for his audacity, as well as making show of their submission to Caesar.
I did not know he was coming to town I live in Sacramento hopefully he comes back around someday
I don't have to worry about that no one will remember me everyone I ever knew has passed or is about to.
Getting that book today
Was this the first episode with a sound cue?
The Latin quote isn't on Christ' burial marking, but was rather common among Roman's during his time. It's written on burial markers along the roads outside Rome, but not in Rome, since at the time no one was buried inside the city.
I could be wrong but i think the problem with the proliferation of small nuclear power generators like in military submarines is that would make available fusion able material.
Although i do totally agree it would be a go way to go.
I'm kinda hoping AI xan help us work out fusion energy at last.
Sorry about the spelling I'm Dyslexic to and Alexa though brilliant if i can't say something properly she can't spell it for me.
Great episode by the way I've liked and Subscribed.

Homestead, PA. Otherwise known as the Homestead neighborhood of Pittsburgh, PA.
I appreciate it when comics reference other people. It's something that most "normal people" hardly ever do.
Love to see British comics on US outlets - love to see some others (Aisling Bee, Acaster, Greg Davies, Nish Kumar, Romesh Ranganathan, Russell Howard, etc.) get more time on US air.
Don't let Aisling see you call her British. ;) 🇮🇪
@@jeandanielodonnncada yeah - dumbed it down for us Americans. Many times a non-southern US accent gets lumped into 'foreign' by us. Not always, but enough to make me shake my head.
58:09 why are we using Detroit as a metaphor for Nirvana lol. It's the worst place.😂😂😂
The Boston queer bit is golden definitely use that!😂
Carr is devolving into Peewee Herman.
What AC/DC, Pete and Jimmy missed (yet know very well!) is that smart Humans raised the blanket of mystery and gave the natural world and our universe a much clearer shape than the god blanket ever could. Science is the answer and has the answers, also to "spiritual" matters and the meaning of life. Sure it's a lot to learn and often confusing - but it's far far more comforting and satisfying knowing the truth and that you know the natural-universal truths, rather than believing in a magical heavenly blanket.
True-at least with regard to explanations of interactions of pre-existent entities. Existence itself, however, is a mystery that must ultimately transcend science. Zero universes becoming one universe, or a universe existing without beginning, is logic-breaking.
Actually canceled: Al Franken's political career; Garrison Keillor's radio legacy; Charlie Rose's broadcasting career.
Also, the 2020 World Series
He's a natural born thriller.
He took that "haunted wooden puppet" line like a fucking champ
44:04 🤔 I wonder, is Los Angeles is America’s midlife crisis?
I love comedians. They are my heroes. That may beg the question of "how sick am I?", but if you're listening, you'll think. I would take issue about group laugh; i'm so tired of finding someone who talks through a movie or yells at it, i like a peuse button if i need a break to think about what i just heard, i spend lots of time by myself and prefer it that way. I would admit the public may be happy with my not being in it as well....
@4:10 I think he means Bahá’í. The religion that worships all religion. Learned about it not too long ago, since I have been saying the same thing for a while now.. Everybody points to the ineffable, shunyata, etc.. It''s just different words, but really the same thing. Muslims have 5 meditations a day, Buddhist do three.. It's just good for the brain to take a break. All that Christian prayer stuff is about surrender, in advaita it is about giving up the ego, it's the same thing, really. So then people will say: you know there is a religion for that?? As if you need to join a club.. Also I think Zen does it a bit. They have all these gods they took out of hinduism Bahkti, They don't exactly believe in them, but worship them anyway, ''cause why not? I guess they like the ritual and if everything is Maya anyway, who cares? But I guess I am a Peteist?Holmist? I do believe in logic.
Why is the color shifting?
Rhett and Link
Jimmy! Where is the comedy class?
Who thought that putting a picture behind you that has the same color as your hair was a great idea?
habba babba
Saw Jiimmy in Vegas about a month ago.. great stuff. Looking forward to the special.
1:12
‘This Naked Mind’ is Annie Grace?
‘The Divided Mind’?
Funny how Jimmy and physics shut down Pete
it is weird how jimmy says they're two types of idiots thinking because some people get something from religion that means it has merit. he's wrong even though he's right. some people get something and billions are persecuted or pre judged. it's accepted terrorism and it should be ended regardless of the small positives.
Yea, Saints have picked up the ball and carried it for Jesus .
WHAT WILL HIS WIFE TELL HIM
Gallons!
No need to clarify who robbie williams is but maybe we're getting old
Mr. Holmes was correct; INRI quasi-translates to Jesus of Nazareth, King of the Jews.
Im going to see Jimmy next week in Providence.
Jimmy Carr: "Video games are a lot like having a career. There are different difficulty levels and a boss at the end. It couldn't be more clear..."
I wasn't aware I'm supposed to slay my IRL boss. Must be why I haven't gotten a promotion yet...
I always enjoy the more "Spiritualistic takes" but as someone with ADHD (Non manic / ADD) I don't agree with any takes I come across or very rarely.
I was physically abused and then my father became disabled with Parkinson, I was able to defend myself eventually but then ppl saw me as the aggressor, if I was attacked. Even tho they were all there b4 hand anything he did after was cause he was sick...and they got mad cause I make jokes that he was a always a dick
I'm very distracted by trying to figure out whether Jimmy Carr has a really big head, or a really small body.
1:00:40 ornery? Lol
