    I’m dead serious: I would give anything to have Pete be my personal therapist. He’s so full of insight and kindness.

    One of the best episodes to date. As much as I love empathizing with the guests over their blocks, I really enjoyed a break to listen to psychedelic and comedic philosophy.

    Just discovered this podcast, and it's right up my alley! Wow, Pete Holmes... He's been one of my favorites for the past couple of years but lately listening to him on podcasts has been so healing for me as a woman to hear a man be able to conceptualize and verbalize and express his trauma and healing so vulnerably. but with pride and humor and showing that deep sense of pain thats there in the depths. What a brilliant mind!

      Did you have psychedelic experiences prior to your Ayahuasca journey?

    • @laurieantonioli3737
      @laurieantonioli3737 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      In the '80's I did mushrooms once, ecstasy once -- both had an impact on my creativity and I got some cool writing out of the deal, but, it didn't open my consciousness like ayahuasca. Ayahuasca has had a lasting impact and spaciousness that has lingered.

  • @GenteelCretin
    @GenteelCretin ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I know it's nitpicking, but the use of the term "reality" at around 17:22 is complicated because there are constructs of reality like "social reality" and "material reality" that have different forms of impact and permeability than the way Pete frames the term.
    Similarly. at 31:43, the definition of "trauma" just depends on the grounding. The concept of trauma being physical is more of a CBT thing. The broad definition that Neal is referring to is similar to the Lacanian idea of trauma being a moment that can be narratively framed as a psychological split between the conceptual and practical gaps in desire.
    As much as I love how psychedelics open people up to metaphysical analysis of the self, most of the concepts that people discover are already systematized in really elegant, descriptive ways. Read continental theory, then take drugs, then read more theory.
    Edit: If you read theory, don't read Sartre or you'll end up like Pete with his "consciousness predates matter" bit at 46:28. Pre-ontological reality is still predicated on being the world. Consciousness entails intentionality, which means that even the statement "consciousness predates matter" is entirely contradictory in its construction.
