About Jimmy: Jimmy Carr is an award-winning comedian, writer and television host, famous for his dark humour and one-line jokes. You’ll think of him as either a politically incorrect equal opportunities offender or a fake-toothed donkey-laugh plastic-haired comedy mannequin. Either way he was scientifically proven to be the funniest comedian in the UK.
About Tom:
Tom Papa, a celebrated stand-up comedian with over 20 years in the industry, has made significant strides in film, television, radio, podcasts, and live performances. Notably, he's a regular on "The Joe Rogan Experience" and various late-night TV shows. Papa's literary skills are evident in his books “We’re All In This Together” and "You’re Doing Great!: And Other Reasons To Stay Alive," a collection of essays, and "Your Dad Stole My Rake: And Other Family Dilemmas," a comedic look at family life. His latest stand-up specials are “Tom Papa: What A Day!” and "Tom Papa: You’re Doing Great!" on Netflix.
Beyond comedy, Papa's engagements extend to hosting "What A Joke With Papa And Fortune" on SiriusXM and appearing on NPR's "Wait, Wait Don’t Tell Me." His love for baking led to hosting the Food Network series "Baked." As an actor, he's worked with notable figures like Rob Zombie and Steven Soderbergh and has appeared in several films and TV shows, including the HBO film "Behind the Candelabra." Additionally, Papa has contributed as a writer to projects like "Bee Movie" and various TV series. Residing in Los Angeles with his family, Papa continues to balance his professional life with personal interests like baking.

God bless Jimmy carr for classing the internet up
After listening to Jimmy on a bunch of podcasts lately (learned so much about charm and charisma) I started saying "It's kind of that thing where.." when I explain things to people.
Charm and charisma. You learned that from this guy that offhandedly jokes about the most irritating things ever comprehended. That is a feat in and of itself, good on you lad.
I'm new to Papa, but with Craig Ferguson then Jimmy, I had to give him a listen! Two thumbs up from the UK Papa 👍👍
As an American, my introduction to tom was a game show "The Marriage Ref." I became a fan of his delivery on the game show, but it plays out in his stand up. He's so great at making fun of regular life.
Definitely check out his comedy specials too. He’s really good.
Same 2 I started with also. It seems to be a good find
Both are great comedic talents. Cheers of the US brother.
Great show! Two intelligent, funny guys; thoughtful conversation. Loved it- -thank you!
Tom was having a mighty battle with that bread
Fabulous conversation! Thanks!
Oh, man... This is going to be amazing... Thank You, Gents!
Great conversation gentlemen!
Jimmy Carr is a one-of-a-kind wth unique perspectives and a very funny guy.
Personally, I hate wearing a suit-- but I can't picture Jimmy wearing anything else. He's a proper gentleman!
PS-- While I don't fully agree with everything he said, it was lovely to hear such a glowing impression of America from an outsider.
I picture him wearing an orange jumpsuit for telling bad jokes at a heinous scale.
Jimmy's the best.
One of the greatest conversations ever!
Sit, Joey! Beg! Roll over!
Love the shirt, again. 👍🏼 Carr is a classic.
Jimmy! Thank you for the Iain McGilchrist reference. Exactly the right mention at the right time for my current work.
You should travel Tom!! Go see Jimmy, take the podcast with you, have some fun - you've earned it ❤
I’m so glad they had some bread and butter!!!
Did not disappoint. 😊
My dad took me to the Santa Monica Civic auditorium to see Shelly Berman and another time to see Bill Cosby in the early 60’s. They drew big crowds thanks to their records. That was a big place for LA. Later I saw Richard Pryor at the Troubadour, which was a smaller club, while the bands like Cream were at the Civic. The size of the venues shrank for a while in LA for comedy and is now back again.
Papa is a treasure. Love Craig and Jimmy - wizards of comedy!! Bright gentlemen.
Great conversation
I loved hearing about how you both create. I’m not a comedian or a performer and still enjoy learning about artistic processes
Hey Joey! Check that toast!… you’d make a fine mob boss Tom.
Love jimmy
Lol Tom laughing through the comedian actor pipeline bit
Does anyone know why Jack Klugman is on the wall? Is Tom a Quincy fan? Great episode! Jimmy Carr is funny and wise. Thank you.
It's not Jack Klugman, but I loved Quincy growing up, I think he lived on a sail boat, which always fascinated me. I'm pretty sure I know who it is...They are in an Italian restaurant...hint hint.I just saw a wide shot...it is Jack, my apologies..:)
@@ricbogart1968 You, sir, are an upstanding dude. I wiki’d Jack Klugman just to see if he might be Italian, seeing that everyone else on the wall was Italian. No dice-Russian Jew.
Quincy came later. I mostly remember Jack Klugman as Oscar Madison in The Odd Couple. ❤
@@TheOldHippiebilly So true, but it’s fun to say, “Is Tom a Quincy fan?”
Hi Tom and Jim 😊
Thanks so much for this, Tom and Jimmy! I really enjoyed this
I can’t quite see your slicing technique on my phone screen, but unsolicited bread-slicing idea (from a grilled cheese sandwich fan that’s a bit picky about slice conformity…):
I find that with ornery rounded loaves, where it can be difficult to finesse the knife into taking that first “bite” of the crust because of an unpredictable buckle-and-squoosh quotient, it can be helpful to turn the knife on its side a bit with the serration aimed toward the center of the loaf.
Once it’s “bitten” through the crust with a couple strokes of the blade, then tip the knife vertical again, and continue the cut 🙂
🥖🥖🥖
When Jimmy said Joey should wear a dickie bow, I thought of a hilarious comedy song, ‘ I got my ascot and my dickie’ by The Upper Crust 🤣
I love when they're just eating bread while chatting. 🍞🥐🥖
Jimmy is right, comedy both live and on youtube or on some other streaming services is blowing up. As he points out, the quality and variety has never been better and just about every comedian has a podcast (IMO that is better than the late night shows), and a youtube channel that has a catalog of their work. I would suspect that older mediums are fading quickly, less on revised viewers habits of time shifting versus appointment viewing, and more because the quality of their offerings. Traditional TV constricts and censors comic's material, and who cares about vapid actors promoting their projects and disposable pop music acts that liter their shows.
Will never do a comedian Arena gig, for the same reason I don't do music Arena gigs.
If I wanted to watch a big screen, I'll wait for the dvd to come out.
Holy cow, thats totally L.A., you can die of encouragement. In L.A. you never hear a no, if you dont hear a yes, leave. The waiter bolero jacket is good, it's used in bdsm for crying out loud.
Someone get Tom a decent serrated knife! It's painful watching him try to cut the bread!
Loving the chat, though.
Re: Tom's friend Jackie who fell off the radar: maybe she really wanted the career in comedy but chose family. Women are expected to choose one or the other. Men are not.
These two guys really think about comedy in a precise way. It makes sense because as far as deameanor i see them as Uk/US mirror images. Their styles couldn't be any more contrasting, but image, deameanor, temperament, ...very similar.
The link for the bread company didn't work for me until I removed www from the path.
I think Jimmy has written a ''podcast conversation script'' that he has memorized like a comedy set and just repeats it on every podcast
It's kinda that thing of... you're promoting your special and want to get your ideas across so you practice them in your head and say the same things in the same wording in 30 different interviews.
Love Jimmy, but he repeats himself A LOT.
pasturised is taking the bugs out of milk .
Eating on podcasts is an aural assault. Love both of these guys for years and years…but the ASMR EATING/CHEWING has got to STOP. Tom, PLEASE give them the bread at the end!!
I absolutely adore Jimmy Carr. He’s such a lovely twat.
💖✨💖
How's Tom not know to stand the bread up on it's side when cutting?
how did he pay his rent when he was making $5 a night ?
i love this podcast but, Tommy, you don't need to say Ya every 5 seconds
Really don't like podcasts with anyone eating.... Misophonia!!!!!!!!!!!
The chewing and mouth sounds of people eating and talking is a show killer.
Haha, and here I loved it because it's so real
I like to imagine Jimmy Carr as having an American accent and I hear Papa as a whatever the hell Jimmy's talking like.
Just a couple of classy guys shooting the shit.
Two heroes in one movie. I'm getting comfortable for this one. Fantastic work sirs! ❤
Unpasteurized French butter? What Louis Pasteur was a Frenchman!
It taste better, or at least more
I was sort of expecting Montreal with the NFIAJ festival. It wasn't like that, but I can appreciate where Jimmy is coming from.
tom papa: "ya...ya...yep...ya...ya...yep...ya...ya...ya...yap..."
His shirt, tie, suit, and shoes cost as much as your car. But he gets a tax write-off :)
Trying to imagine Jimmy and Kat having waffles together....please make that a podcast. But on topic, I appreciate that Jimmy understands and expresses that audiences can be smart enough to parse out jokes vs. points from which we can learn and grow. follow on edit: This is a great discussion exposing the genius of Jimmy. finally, Nikki was great on the roast, but tony Hinchcliffe was absolutely to best of the show.
I feel like Tom would crush in London
Tom needs to buy a better knife
i really wanted to watch this episode but Tom saying "ya" over and over and over and over and over and over is extremely annoying.
dammit
This conversation reminds me of Gore Vidal who said: “It is not enough to succeed, friends must fail”.
Why don’t you own a toothy bread knife? Watching him try to cut bread with a dull ruler is annoying…smoosh it down a bit more…mmmmm
not only is Tom's incessant "ya ya mm hmm ya ya mm hmm ya ya ya ya ya" annoying, his mic is louder and many times i can't hear what Jimmy is saying.
Flutterby has been one of my words for a long time.
Great podcast.
Love both of you guys, but Jeez US Tom! You have the money, buy a decent, longer bladed, restaurant quality BREAD KNIFE!
Just started watching this podcast, it’s so civilized!!! I love it❤
i do not find anything kevin hart ever said funny.
sorry
That key light is wild
big ask here -Tom's mic is way louder than Jimmy's -actually that's an easy fix please!
No
Jimmy says he doesn’t do sound checks…
