  • Itchy Tiller = The need to keep on moving! We leave our beautiful mooring at Pooley Country Park on the Coventry Canal and head towards Fazeley junction, completing Glascote locks on the way. We visit the Golden Tower and explore the woodlands, Paul gets pecked by geese and completes a black mountain bike run, without a bike! I discover mould in the bedroom while Ernie is trapped in prison and enjoys a bark off while we cruise the inland waterways.
    We hope you have enjoyed this latest narrowboat vlog and continue to join us on our future Narrowboat adventures and journeys.

    Poor Paul, you're going to break a hip falling down like that. Between you, Liz and Master Ernie you'll all end up in A&E. Perhaps a walking stick would help you all maintain your balance. You could get one that has a fold out seat for rest periods.

    We live on a sailboat in the tropics and also suffer with damp/mould. I use the same dehumidifier tubs you show in the episode, and they fill up fast! It's a constant battle.
    I used to spray a white vinegar and water mix to keep the mould off, and it worked well. In the last few years I've swapped to a tea tree oil and water spray, which also works (and smells nicer). Mould seems to hate eucalyptus oil too... 🙏🍄😆

    *Morena Liz, Paul & Ernie 🙂 Paul drill some holes into the cupboard door or if possible on the side and put mesh on the inside.. so it will allow air to flow thru but also stop any bugs getting in. Oh I do wish there was a video of Paul falling over and getting bitten by the geese... hehehehe 🙂 Ernie was getting all the latest news from the dogs along the way... doggies do love to gossip... about how there life is with other doggies. 🙂 Awesome scenery along the canals... I hope the clean up crews get rid of the fallen trees 🙂 Finally we see some Magnet fishing... ok it was after they had finished... But I do hope they moved all that scrap off the pathway and moved it all to a place that was assessible for the scrapman to come & collect it. 🙂 Sadly some just leave a horrible mess behind. See you three next week 🙂nz.*

    We live in the tropics (don't be jealous - it is too hot and too humid almost all the time these days. 9:40 at night as I type this and still over 30 centigrade outside with high humidity. Melting!). We have big problems with humidity in cupboards. After trying dehumidifiers like you showed in the vlog and also electric ones we ended up resorting to finding clear plastic boxes with tight(ish) fitting lids and using those. If you dig around in home improvement shops and online you can usually find ones that fully fit your cupboards without wasting space. For boxes holding stuff we don't use much (like jumpers etc. for when we visit home in UK) we add a cloth bag of silica gel (bought the silica gel pellets by the kilo on Ali Express) and put it near the front so we can easily see if it has changed colour. If it has we take it out, dry it out in a slightly warm grill and put it back once the colour has changed back. It does a great job of saving things from damp and mildew. We tried large zip-lock vacuum bags but they are such a pain to use unless on things left for 1/2 a year at a time. With the boxes it is easy to see what is in each box (can add labels too) and that there is nothing going wrong in the boxes. I hope that helps.

    • @uponreflection
      @uponreflection  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I'm not jealous much...who am I kidding, I'm really jealous. I'd prefer to be hot than cold 🥶 thank you so much for the tips I will definitely be looking to get some plastic boxes just so I can have peace of mind but for now we have got a plug in dehumidifier and I open the doors each morning to allow air flow so hopefully that will help while I search out the right size plastic containers. Thanks 😀 😊

      @@uponreflection Nowadays the tendency is to live life like termites. From a cooled house into a car with air con to a building with air con and by air con car back home again. Venturing outdoors is only done very early morning or late at night. Even at midnight it can be 30+ degrees. Very hard to keep physically active. No one walks here - even to the local shop.
      I have realised that once I retire I should return to UK so that I can be more active for the sake of staying fit and healthy. If not I won't be retired for long this side of the daisies.

      I watched a film the other day, forget what it was called, but it was so hot that they slept during day and went to work and lived there lives at night time, complete switch of their body clocks. Dammit! I'd of paid good money to see the " Attack of the killer ducks " haha! Liz don't worry about doing something wrong, we've all made mistakes on the canal that's why its a contact sport, Paul you can get little round vents for cupboard in chrome and different colours Ebay or Amazon sell em 70mm. put two in each cupboard to create air flow. Canals took a battering this year with the wind and rain trees down everywhere. ( Liz he's definately losing the plot with Ernie ) haha! Hi Liz, Paul and Captain Ernie
    Liz and Paul you two are such a wonderful couple, you were meant for each other.
    Liz please remember to walk backwards when you open and close lock gates. It would be horrible to know you had injured your Achilles tendon.
    Captain Ernie I have two questions for you. First is your coat hair or fur? You have such a handsome coat and you don't seem to shed. The second question pertains to an observation of other boating dogs and cats. Would you agree with me that dogs and cats who live on boats tend to have more personality and be more alert than "land lubbers"?
    Paul any thoughts about removing the door to the cupboard, that holds Liz's clothes, with a louvered one to allow air circulation.
    You guys are GREAT,
    Mark
    Alberta, Canada

    • @uponreflection
      @uponreflection  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi Mark, Ernie has a curly fleece coat which is non-shedding and requires regular grooming. As for the alertness, it's hard to say as Ernies always been very alert but I'd say noises around boat etc he is less bothered about than he would ha e been in the house. Can't say I've noticed it as a general rule though with other boat dogs and we haven't actually come across any boat cats yet. Tue cupboards in the bedroom we are propping doors open each morning at the moment and plan to possibly put some little vents in. Also using a dehumidifier in that room now in the hope that helps. Lock gates I do generally open and close backwards as often as I can but sometimes they are so tough they just need that brut force frontwards first to get them going. 😊
