The best results I have achieved are: - Undervolt with Throttlestop, - 0.1 on CPU core and - 0.08 on p cores and e cores. Throttlestop is better than lenovo Vantage as you can undervolt p cores as well. Nice and detailed video man. I’ve got a question for you. Have you experienced any battery discharge while the AC adapter is plugged in and the system is under a heavy load such as gaming? I just got my new RTX 4090 Legion Pro 7i a week ago and when I play Hogwarts Legacy, my battery drains continuously while on custom mode, though when I turn it down to performance mode, the battery will only drain down to 94% and then will start charging but not charge higher than 95%. I don’t have any of the battery preserving settings turned on. Is this normal for this year’s Legion Pro 7i?
I have put lots of hours in to Hogwarts Legacy and did not have battery drain issues. Exchange the laptop or contact Lenovo as this is not normal with the provided AC adapter.
i have a same thing while heavy gaming but only while on performance mode i gamed for like 8h once and my battery went down to 43% while plugged my friend said because laptop adapter doesnt have enough power so it takes from battery and its normal for new laptops as much as i have researched i am not alone so i dont believe its faulty battery or something than they have released many laptops with faulty batteries and my laptop is like 1 month old only. BTW now when i use external screen battery stay 98% all the time

I think Lenovo has been playing around with the BIOS settings and it appears to be changing the clock speeds on the RAM around. I'll report back if I get more info.
Hi man, nice video! Two questions: 1) performance mode on my case is definitely NOT ramping up the fans all the way to their 100%. What could be causing this? 2) you mentioned you had the best results with custom mode, what configuration are you using with the sliders? everything maxed out?
No. You don't need to max everything out. I have PL2, loading wattage and cross-load wattage to 75W for CPU and GPU set to 150W with GPU boost to 25W. Then enable GPU Overclock with the toggle and play with the sliders to see how far you can push your GPU. Oh and also under Custom mode set fans to max but then slowly try to bring them down so you can find a comfortable temperature, noise and performance you can live with.
I have ordered Legion pro 7i with RTX 4080 and I'm new to undervolting and overclocking. So please help me out to set up this. Also is it recommended to do these for day to day usage or is it just for gaming?
I didn't get the Lenovo Gaming Feature Driver - 11 option to download! I manually went an downloaded it from Lenovo's website, but still can't see the CPU Overclock option. Is there any other way I can get this option? I have the same laptop with RTX 4090
That is odd. You might want to try Windows Update. If not, then try to uninstall Lenovo Vantage and re-install it. If that fails might be time to call Lenovo tech support.
Have you ran into any issues with battery drain while in custom mode full load? Been reading a lot that people are seeing a 10-15% drop in battery per hour
You mean the battery draining while plugged into AC power and gaming or using both CPU/GPU with heavy workload? I have not noticed this issue on my device, but then again, I was not specifically looking for this. If I find something I'll report back.

The battery life is pretty good. I got 4-5 hours using it for heavy programming, Docker containers, web surfing with multiple browsers, dozens of tabs and some chat apps open. Very decent to be honest for a machine like this. Still, it's no Macbook Pro 16. And I agree with you, they did cut some corners to save a few bucks. Last years machine was so well specced. For example, this year's model removes the backlit icons for the ports on the back of machine. What did that save. $1? Just ridiculous. And as for HDR, anything below 1000-nits brightness is fake HDR. It's a slap in the face that VESA is even handing out these ridiculous HDR400 and HDR600 badges.

For under-volt you'll have to do some testing on your hardware to see what the silicon inside your CPU can handle. Start in increments of -10mV and keep increasing the number and running stress tests and gaming to determine what's stable for your case.
Hello Is there a issue with the laptops charger? There is the original charger for the laptop and the slim version, I read that some people aren’t getting the required juice in 1 of them…do you have any thoughts on this?
I got the orig charger so no issues on my end. I have not tested the slim charger so I can't speak to this point specifically. But if you charge with less wattage then drain and lack of power will be an issue.
Undervolting has been pretty poor on the 13th gen Intel parts. Just use Lenovo Vantage. You can lock in your settings once you've found the sweet spot and they'll just be applied without having to open/run another app etc. I wasn't able to go beyond -50mV on most of the 13th gens. The HP Omen 17 was unstable beyond -35mV. But that's not a fault of the Omen but rather the luck of the draw with the silicon lottery.
Use throttlestop, I use -150 mhz on cache and 90mhz on pcores. I get 32400 on r23 cinebench. I was getting 4.6ghz but I was unstable, i get 4.5ghz with my settings during multi core on cinebench. I use afterburner as well 250mhz on core and 900mhz on memory. 22,700 on timespy.

Hello, can you tell me if this laptop has a 10 bit or 8 bit screen, cuz some reviewers say it's 10, and I saw a reviewer showing resolution settings in Windows and it says 8 bit. Can you confirm which one is it? Also for the color gamut, is it good enough, does games and videos look nice on this laptop's screen? is it that much difference between this and those Mini Led's? Thank you sir.
@tahaabderaouffritis1161 From my experience it was also 8-bit. Mini-LED panels are most likely to be 10-bit I believe. But I'm not sure and since I no longer have this laptop I don't have any way to confirm. The color gamut is excellent though for games. 100% sRGB so no issues on that front. Is there a specific reason you're interested in 10-bit color?
I'm interested in buying one. and if it's really a 10 bit screen that will courage me to buy it more. I believe that 10 bit screens give better colors in games and video editing ..... Thank you for responding, if you could provide me with the info I'd be so thankful to you sir. I'm also open to your advices.@@techknowlux
@tahaabderaouffritis1161 In that case, you should look at the ASUS ProArt Studiobook 16X. That one did have a 10-bit OLED panel for one example. There's not many options yet with 10-bit panels even on the desktop, let alone laptop. You'll have to hunt around a bit but the ProArt Studiobook was gorgeous.
Thank you. Glad you liked it. You and me both my friend on trying to get the 175W in *all* games. I'll keep an ear to the Internets to see if things change.
Great video Thanks! I have the 4080 version and I am having fps drops in every game. Whether it is in custom setting or performance, my cpu locks to 403 mhz in every 10/20 sec then goes to normal mhz then it goes again. I wasn't getting this problem until summer and I was wondering if its because the temperature. I did clean the laptop and reapplied the thermal pastes everything is cool but I don't understand why am I still getting fps drops. If im not be able to play the best performance with stable fps whats the point right? Is there any way I can fix it? Thanks again.
I believe you didn't get the full 175w of gpu power because you turned down the CPU long term power. Turning it all the way up gives the full benefit of dynamic boost. (At least that's what I learned from another video about this laptop).
I've also come this searching for answers. But that means that you're potentially pushing more power to the CPU. If the CPU and GPU power are linked in this way then it needs to be decoupled or be tuned via BIOS updates. Intel 13th gen peaks at 60-75W considering the silicon lottery so don't see why should need to crank it all the way.
@Angelcee492 Did you check the BIOS? You have to boot into the BIOS and enable CPU undervolting and overclocking. If you're not seeing, try to uninstall the Lenovo Vantage software and then re-install it. Also do all of your Windows updates.
@@techknowlux this was BS question. My question: whats the battery life when CPU is undervolted as much as safely possible without crashes. 2.Whats the deck temperatures be like under low/mid CPU load?
I've switched to extreme settings but I did not notice much difference during actual gameplay. To be honest, I'm not even sure what that setting does, or, even if it does anything at all.
@geenaxion Yes because 13th and 14th generation chips are essentially the same with small tweaks. Same architecture so the same tricks for optimization will apply. Good luck on tuning!
Got mine. Enjoying it so far. Probably will try this on during the weekend. I have read somewhere that the latest bios disabled the undervolt. Is it true though?
Honestly put everything to Max in custom including fans GPU boost Max that too For timespy GPU you'll get 22500+ and CPU about 16500+ With hybrid and performance the CPU will score 17000 with the GPU losing about 200 And your guide to undervolting should really improve on that too
@@techknowlux could you please try something that puzzled me Instead of switching between performance and balanced etc through the app Try it through the fn+ q hotkey It seems to implement everything better and even balanced (blue light on power button) im now gaming happily with very little fan noise and my GPU temperature hasn't gone over 50c Really pleased and going to try benchmarks that way, working miles better than through the vantage app
Ladies and gemtleman, do yourselves a favor and use the "performance" power options for gaming, it is superior to any custom one, if you do not believe me, try and change it in game, notice the lack of stutter and immediate pfs boost.
Yes, go into your BIOS and check the settings like I showed in the beginning of the video. You need to enable Undervolting in the BIOS. Use Fn + F2 to access it when you boot up your machine.
Hmm. I haven't tested the 7745HX yet, but you should look at a guide for AMD's Ryzen Master to undervolt it. I'll try to cover that in the future once I have an AMD CPU device that is unlocked. Also keep in mind that undervlolting may, key word may, give you a few (2-5C) drop in temps but can risk making your system unstable or even unbootable if you hard undervolt in the BIOS. Read up, watch a few vids and good luck.
@@techknowlux INTERESTING, i bought 2 weeks ago legion 5 pro ryzen 77745hx and rtx 4070 . on balance, and gpu in hybrid mode i get warzone in ultra settings 58 degres only. and it is consistent.. but i cant use extreme settings because then in the gamne i see other apps using to much vram and totall im out off the 8gb range of vram., so i find out when i play i should set thermal on performance and gpu mode on Dgpu then i cann play extreme seetings warzone without problem because others apps stop using vrams, so what thats mean, it is like mux swich , when play dgpu pc doesnt use anymore amdradeon graphics but only rtx4070. and when i using settings with Dgpu only 6gb v ram on extreme seetings warzone demand so my laptop is ok with that... and temps are 62 - 65 degress not more all the time, so i say verry good temps and i dont know maybe no need to try set in custom mode any settings... now my gpu settings in custom mode 80w. i cann slide till 130w but i dont think it is good idea. on extreme settings in warzone i get 120 fps so for me it is enough .. if i start to adjust settings i may rizing gpu temps and i dont want to , i think 60 degres is verry good temps for laptop in balance mode 56 -58 degres jumping. lenovo made set settings for my lenovo i think that it last longer and work colder , and leaved on table some performance i think.
I would imagine the BIOS would be different for a desktop/tower. But in Lenovo Vantage the process should be almost the same. If not exactly the same once you unlock BIOS undervolt if needed. Why are you looking to undervolt? Running very high temps? Desktops do far better thermally then almost any laptop!
I can clearly see hogwarts lagging on high fps. Would you please consider showing frametime chart? Feels like 1%low fps is not that great in many games with rtx 4000. PS. it did not got overboost to 175w in a few titles because the game was most likely CPU bound (it doesnt have to show 100 use to be bound by it). Thanks for videos.
Very informative about being CPU bound. Thank you for that tip. I'll consider adding frametime charts. I have not done so thus far because it simply floods the screen with overlay information.
@geenaxion With each passing generation the ability to undervolt is getting less and less. With each node shrink, 10nm, 7nm, 4nm, etc the tolerances for silicon are so tight that in order to get the ranges for boosts that the CPU makers claim, there can't be much room for undervolting. That said, it is still susceptible to the silicon lottery so your mileage may vary.
how did you apply these setting on the lenovo legion 5 pro? in my vantage there is no option for overclocking (or undervolting) the CPU - i have the ryzen 7745HX and this thing runs very hot@@techknowlux
It varies per laptop. Some require a change in the BIOS to enable undervolting before you can get access to software features for UV. Take a look at instructions for your specific manufacturer/model of laptop.
@@techknowlux I have legion 5 Slim 13th gen Intel and can not find where I can enable UV in bios, Vantage has only GPU overclock. Could you please help to find bios setting. Thank you
Yes. Dual biometrics should be on all laptops in 2023 and beyond in my opinion. That's the Windows Hello infrared cameras for facial recognition login when you open the lid/power on the device. And fingerprint for purchases, online security etc.
I had the opposite experience. Performance did not push the GPU up to 175W in any of the games I tried. With the exception of Borderlands 3, they all ran at 150W. It almost felt like dynamic boost was not kicking in at all but I don’t have concrete data to back up this claim. Custom mode went above 150W on many games on my machine.
Very likely the RAM are aftermarket and not directly from Lenovo themselves, the latest Bios released xxx36 fixes it that aftermarket RAM only runs at 4800MT/s
I don't have footage now to confirm, but I believe it was running at 5600MHz when I got the machine. And also because that's what's stated on the spec sheet. It's very possible since I keep the machine up to date all the time, a BIOS update reduced the speed. If the RAM was originally able to run at a higher speed, I don't understand why Lenovo would tune it down.
There is no bios adjustment clip in the video. Has it been deleted? How should I set up the bios?
no hes just an idiot

The HP Omen 17 was unstable beyond -35mV. But that's not a fault of the Omen but rather the luck of the draw with the silicon lottery.
@@techknowlux got ya! Having a similar scenario over here... Thanks a lot for your feedback!
@@akaddict ok now that's a strong performance. Has your device been stable under those conditions?
@@anibalhuneeus Yup, I got lucky with my chip fortunately. I play cs2 with 400 fps haha.
Hey, I installed all latest updates from lenovo vantage and still don't have cpu overclocking option. I have GPU overclock but don't have the CPU one. What's the problem?
Go into BIOS and enable CPU overclocking first. Then you'll have the option in Lenovo Vantage.

@@techknowlux You're comfortable enough to gaming with the cpu temperature limit set to 99c ? Does it often hit 99c ? The CPU temperature limit means whenever it hits the threshold it will get throttled right to avoid hitting 99c?
is that mean if the cpu temperature limit hitting 99c all cpu performance will also get throttled?
10 bit.
If the advanced display settings show 8bit, use Intel Graphics command center to change the color depth to BPC_10, then it will show as 10bit.
Great informative video, thank you very much! Really interested in finding out how to get the full 175w from the GPU in games other than Borderlands!
May want to use recovery media to reset the device to its defaults, wonder if its windows or an application that’s contributing to the problem
I don't have the option to overclock my CPU or have the update available. Is there another way to get it?
@Angelcee492 Did you check the BIOS? You have to boot into the BIOS and enable CPU undervolting and overclocking. If you're not seeing, try to uninstall the Lenovo Vantage software and then re-install it. Also do all of your Windows updates.
mate does this laptop have coil whine like asus scar laptops? Will this laptop stay absolutely silent while coding or light browsing?
No coil whine on the Legion Pro 7i. It is silent for browsing and coding.
What software do you use to show the data with fps, gpu. Wow that game eats a lot of ram
I use MSI Afterburner. I did a video on how to configure for yourself here. th-cam.com/video/gLX6NwPu-5U/w-d-xo.htmlsi=dzsO3CeE0zLXyYEq
What's the battery life in iGPU mode and the CPU overclock sliders are all at minimum level?
It doesnt make too much of a difference. Very minor. Still between 4-5 hours in typical usage typing, netflix, browsing etc.
@@techknowlux this was BS question. My question: whats the battery life when CPU is undervolted as much as safely possible without crashes. 2.Whats the deck temperatures be like under low/mid CPU load?
Do you recommend using extreme performance settings in bios ?
I've switched to extreme settings but I did not notice much difference during actual gameplay. To be honest, I'm not even sure what that setting does, or, even if it does anything at all.
Is it okay to follow this at this point?
Just ordered a Lenovo Legion pro7i 4090, will probably do this when it arrives.
Honestly put everything to Max in custom including fans
GPU boost Max that too
For timespy GPU you'll get 22500+ and CPU about 16500+
With hybrid and performance the CPU will score 17000 with the GPU losing about 200
And your guide to undervolting should really improve on that too
Great tips. Will be taking these into account for future testing and tuning vids.
@@techknowlux could you please try something that puzzled me
Instead of switching between performance and balanced etc through the app
Try it through the fn+ q hotkey
It seems to implement everything better and even balanced (blue light on power button) im now gaming happily with very little fan noise and my GPU temperature hasn't gone over 50c
Really pleased and going to try benchmarks that way, working miles better than through the vantage app
Tell me how to get to the advanced bios I can't find anything
@STOOPIDFOOL It's a toggle/click somewhere in the BIOS itself.
Ladies and gemtleman, do yourselves a favor and use the "performance" power options for gaming, it is superior to any custom one, if you do not believe me, try and change it in game, notice the lack of stutter and immediate pfs boost.
in vantage, what you did is increased the voltage for the processor not offset it. I feel bad for the people watching it.
I have the same model and I cant see this update. do I need to enable some settings in bios to get this update or something?
Yes, go into your BIOS and check the settings like I showed in the beginning of the video. You need to enable Undervolting in the BIOS. Use Fn + F2 to access it when you boot up your machine.
Please help me undervolt my ryzen 7 7745HX for no reason its utilizing its 100 % CPU Powe and temps are getting 90-95 degrees
I don't think it's possible to undervolt Ryzen CPUs, as they commonly reach temperatures of 95°C. Have you had any success with undervolting?
I'm pretty sure what you are doing here is OVERVOLTING. The vantage software doesn't support undervolting.
If the numbers are minus, it's undervolting. Plus means overvolting.
To turn on undervolting you need to go to BIOS to enable it and turn off OS memory protection. So no you’re overvolting.
Yeah dude you are not undervolting 😂 check again its not -0,05 but 0,05
Yes he is plus .5 not minus heheheh
will this work for the Legion tower 7i Gen 8 (Intel) with rtx 4080?
I would imagine the BIOS would be different for a desktop/tower. But in Lenovo Vantage the process should be almost the same. If not exactly the same once you unlock BIOS undervolt if needed. Why are you looking to undervolt? Running very high temps? Desktops do far better thermally then almost any laptop!
Hi! are these settings applicable to rtx 4080 (lenovo legion 7 pro)?
Yes they are.
@@techknowlux thank you
I can clearly see hogwarts lagging on high fps.
It’s nothing to do with the GPU the game is just shit.
Hi does this method work for the Lenovo legion 5 pro AMD with 7745hx?
I have not tested a Lenovo laptop this year with an AMD Ryzen 7000 processor so I'm not sure.
Is there any tutorial how to undervolt legion 5 pro with ryzen 7 7745HX?
Depends on your specific laptop. Most laptops have the undervolting feature locked out. Check with Lenovo service manual for your specific model.
@@techknowlux too bad, I think it's locked.
i dont think you can undervolt AMD laptop cpu's
@@shrey522 yeah, but it’s fine. Cooling pad seems enough.

thank you so much.
Why is your memory running at 4800Mhz? My Legion 7i runs at 5600Mhz.
BIOS updates I believe.
So -50millivolts is still a good value currently?
@geenaxion With each passing generation the ability to undervolt is getting less and less. With each node shrink, 10nm, 7nm, 4nm, etc the tolerances for silicon are so tight that in order to get the ranges for boosts that the CPU makers claim, there can't be much room for undervolting. That said, it is still susceptible to the silicon lottery so your mileage may vary.
WOW mate, after 6 months of ultra loud laptop, with this settings my Legion 5 Pro is quiet as a whistle. Thank you so much!!!
Glad I could help. Enjoy.
how did you apply these setting on the lenovo legion 5 pro? in my vantage there is no option for overclocking (or undervolting) the CPU - i have the ryzen 7745HX and this thing runs very hot@@techknowlux
How did you enable UV on 13th gen ?
It varies per laptop. Some require a change in the BIOS to enable undervolting before you can get access to software features for UV. Take a look at instructions for your specific manufacturer/model of laptop.
@@techknowlux I have legion 5 Slim 13th gen Intel and can not find where I can enable UV in bios, Vantage has only GPU overclock. Could you please help to find bios setting. Thank you
@@techknowlux How did you enable advanced bios settings in your laptop?
Good laptop, the only thing they should have added is biometrics
Yes. Dual biometrics should be on all laptops in 2023 and beyond in my opinion. That's the Windows Hello infrared cameras for facial recognition login when you open the lid/power on the device. And fingerprint for purchases, online security etc.
can you do this for alienware m18?

@@yashj8238 no. it's not
This game is swallowing 22gig of ram 🤯🤯🤯
I'm sure something else was going on.
Does this also apply to the 4080?
Yes it does.
Custom mode is rubbish, but performance mode is best for gpu power and always wins for me
I had the opposite experience. Performance did not push the GPU up to 175W in any of the games I tried. With the exception of Borderlands 3, they all ran at 150W. It almost felt like dynamic boost was not kicking in at all but I don’t have concrete data to back up this claim. Custom mode went above 150W on many games on my machine.
should ram run at 5600 ?
Yes it should. Mine has 32GBs of 5600Mhz DDR5 RAM.
Why is the RAM only running at 4800MHz? I think it's supposed to be running at 5600MHz?
Very likely the RAM are aftermarket and not directly from Lenovo themselves, the latest Bios released xxx36 fixes it that aftermarket RAM only runs at 4800MT/s
@@Scerate correct mine are running at 5600, but I doubt you can see the difference.
