  • This video contains the sound of a creaking, grinding and popping noise that was identified as worn out sway bar bushings on a 2007 Dodge Caravan.
    This video shows how I identified where the sound was originating from and how I fixed the issue.

    1998 Dodge Caravan--I just got back from having a fuel filter replaced (162k miles). I asked about the noise and they quoted $311 to replace both sway bar links. So I got on TH-cam to see what they look like and see other causes of noise. Thank you. They could be correct but I want to see other causes like you found.

    I have an 07 Grand Caravan, it had bad inner and outer tie rods and sway bar bushings, I replaced everything and you must have a good tool for those stubborn inners.

    Rather than remove the sway bar linkage to get clearance to remove/install the bushing, it is way easier to just jack up the steering knuckle - just a few inches if lift needed.

    Good job, in future repairs if unsure take a cellphone pic before removing parts.

    A trick to getting the link nut removed is to use a pair of vise grips on the back side of the stud sticking through the strut tower. There is a flat spot on it so you can get a good grip on it. A breaker bar with the socket gives you lots of torque to turn the rusty nut. Much easier to remove the nut that way. Saw this in another video from an auto shop in Chicago.

    Hi, can you pause 12:34 and right beyond your wrench( middle of your wrench) there is small opening and there is bolt( kind of long bolt) there going down to double rubber bushing , what is that, i think in my 2006 Dodge caravan is loose there, what is name of that, can that be changed/fixed ?If you also pause at 13:30 you can see that opening and a bolt back there almost in middle of screen.

    torx 40: Torx, developed in 1967 by Camcar Textron, is the trademark for a type of screw head characterized by a 6-point star-shaped pattern. A popular generic name for the drive is star, as in star screwdriver or star bits. The official generic name, standardized by the International Organization for Standardization as ISO 10664, is hexalobular internal.
    Try filling it full of white lithium grease for a temporary fix.

    Hey aren't there two bushings under there? Isn't there one towards the left and another towards the right? Mine is making the same noise. 2006 with just a little over 100k on it. Thanks

    • @bryzgarage5028
      @bryzgarage5028  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      hoffmanshaven yes, there are two. I did them both, but just made the video on just one of them. If you're going to do one, may as well do both. Good luck with your change.

      Ok, thanks. I watched a couple of other videos too. I am going to get mine up in the air and check this. If I have to change those bushings I can use my tire spoons on them. I have tire spoons for changing tires on my motorcycle should work good on those bushings. I might throw them in some hot water for a minute to soften the up too. I need to check the axles too. I might have a bad CV joint. Take are.

    Question please. When you re-installed the new bushing in the sway bar did you use the plastic coupler?

    • @bryzgarage5028
      @bryzgarage5028  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      dancar02 I did not. It was difficult to put on but I chose not to do it because all of the other ones I have seen have never had these.

      You can warm up the bushing in hot water to make it more pliable. Spray silicone spray on the sway bar. Put bushing on the sway bar then slide it up to the mount area.

      +romeo2presley It did not!! :) It has only been about 4 months though. I'll keep you posted if it does start again but I'm pretty confident that fixed the issue. It was wayyy loud and annoying.

      romeo2presley Hi. please do yourself a favour of replacing these bushings. Buy original part from a dealer. I bought OEM and after 1.5 years I am doing this again. I bought one of the better bushings AC Delco before. I guess it was not good enough. good luck

      What year is your van? I have read a few other forums with certain years and they keep having to replace the bushings every 30k or so. (2000 to 2004) Also if you buy them yourself from AutoZone they have a lifetime warranty so do the control arms so at that point I would recommend doing it yourself to save the cost.

      I’ve had to spend so much money at the shop recently on my caravan that I decided to go in on my own and this is going to be my first job… Going to the part store tomorrow. I’m going to change the bushings and the sway bar links… Feeling confident
