Sure appreciate you posting this video! Did not want to mess with finding someone to service Samsung over something I knew would be simple. The clogged nipple was the culprit for me. Thank you!
We just used your video to fix our leaking Samsung! Our regular repair guy won't touch the Samsung brand anymore so we were stuck with replacing the fridge or getting a new guy. Thank you so much. All better now.
I've been racking my brain for a couple of years trying to figure out we're mine was leaking... Thank you for taking your time to put this video together! 👊🏼🙏
So, I followed everything you advised and sure enough, my drain was frozen. I boiled water and thawed it out. Then I pulled out the fridge and cleaned out that litrle white cap. The holes were also plugged. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge! I am guessing your video saved me at least a $100 repairman housecall. 🙂
Great Instructions! We melted the ice block by heating a piece of wire coat hanger and inserting it in frozen tube as we weren't having success pouring hot water into it.
@@darrennarine2603 Here's what happened. I cleared it all out but after all the ice was gone, I poured more hot water and it didn't go through to the drip pan accessed from behind the fridge. I took the hose that leads from the freezer to the drip pan off and there were no clogs. I re-assembled, shrugged and we went on with our lives until a few days later when the problem re-occurred. So I called an appliance repair guy. I told him make/model and what we did, and he said he has seen this same problem with this model many times. I scheduled a time. Before he came I had everything out of the freezer, that back plate off and all the ice defrosted out. Doing that made his bill lower since they charge by the hour, so do that if you can. He put in a new part that goes from the drain hole in the freezer to the hose. It has an elbow in it. The original part does not. It was an upgrade Samsung built for our model. You might be able to buy it and do yourself? Anyway part of the cause of the original problem is keeping the back of the fridge clean from lint. He said every 3 months vacuum off the back of fridge coil. What happens is, you open the freezer door and that lint gets sucked up in through the hose and causes the block. That upgraded part's elbow prevents that from happening, to an extent. Let me know how it goes!
Yep! Had exactly that same problem. Thanks very much for showing what it was. My process was to hit the back coils @ drain plug first, both filthy. Then took the contents out of the freezer, and took the inside panel off. I could not get hold of the ice block in the tray, so I used a hair dryer to melt it away, soaking up the water in the process. Finally I microwaved a few cups of water and poured them down the drain. Very excited to have been able to resolve this issue. Thanks again. :)
Thank you Jerry! At 2:20. After I poured hot water over the drain I used a turkey baster to pulse the hot water at the ice in the drain. When the water cooled I wicked it out with a towel added more hot water and pulsed again repeating until it cleared.
Thank you, your video gave me the confidence to not call a repairman. I completed the icing problem in one hour and probably saved $200 to $300. Very much appreciated. I can now afford to continue my You Tube subscription.
So glad I found this video, this was exactly what was happening to my fridge, after having the waterline fixed and then the ice tray also. My fridge was leaking every few days, almost causing mold on the bottom seal!
Thank you so much for your video. We have the exact same issue and I have a towel folded under the door to stop the leaking on our harfwood floors. I am going to try your fix over the weekend. Fingers crossed 🤞
My freezer was leaking and I couldn't find any videos that showed my type of freezer until this one. The drain hole, for some reason, was plugged with some plastic plug for some unknown reason. The drainage tube had a small screw stuck in it. The screw rusted so much that it clogged the tube with rust. I don't know how in the hell a screw got stuck in there. After all that was fixed I poured a small amount of water into the drain and sure enough you could hear it drain out the tube on the backside. I just put everything back together and flipped the breaker back on. It's 2:24 in the morning and my fingers are crossed but I'm optimistic. Thank you again for the video!
thank you... I have horrible ice buildup in bottom aswell and just had surgery (gallbladder removal) and I walked to get water bottle from frige around 2am in the dark and almost slipped from water in floor from fridge- all bad with my incisions. My husband is now trying you're method- However we don't have the water dispenser or ice dispenser plugged in for use so hopefully it works.
This was exactly my issue. Thank you so much for this video. My bottom tray filled completely and created an ice block. I had to destroy it to get it out 😔. The drain in the back is key, it was completely clogged with gunk.
Thank you - I have been chasing this for months - I forst had the over icing issue and added some extra copper wire - then had a drainage issue and this showed exactly what needed to be detached and cleaned.
Going to try this tomorrow. Third time in 3 weeks dealing with ice build up. Have found that pouring vinegar on the ice build up at bottom is very helpful. May have to chip at sides a little first to allow vinegar to get between ice and walls of freezer, but ice block build up will slide right out. I use a ice scraper from the car to chip at the ice to avoid damage with a metal object. This is especially baffling because we do not have our ice maker hooked up to a water supply. Thanks Jerry!
I'm not sure, but I think the ice build-up is coming from the defrost cycle. A freezer has to go through a defrost cycle regularly to prevent ice from building on the sides of the freezer. When that melts, it is supposed to drain through the back of the freezer and then be dried by the evaporator coils. I don't think it has anything to do with the icemaker. If you will follow all instructions including the cleaning out of the white nipple and tube and all other drain tube, it should not happen again. I did this procedure one time, and it hasn't happened again, and it's been s a few years. Thanks and good luck!
@@jbpots thank you for posting this video. I am certain you are right about the defrosting cycle. We live in the south, so humidity is always present. Much appreciated my friend!
Can't get any clearer that that, thanx brutha ,I've done all these steps ,so I will cross my fingers and see what happens, btw when I flushed it the first time ,I just flooded out by mischance I didn't have anything underneath to catch the water ,so I don't know what may have been plugging it, good work thank you.

THEY BOTH SUCK BC OF ISSUES LIKE THIS. OUR $1600 SMART WASHER WAS THE DUMBEST PURCHASE WE EVER MADE. IT NEVER REALLY CLEANED OUR CLOTHES & WITHIN THE FIRST MONTH IT DEVELOPED THE INFAMOUS SAMSUNG MOLD ISSUE.
Another helpful trick to thaw the ice build up is to fill up a ziplock bag with hot tap water and lay the bag(s) of hot water on the ice build up. This thaws the ice pretty quickly without adding additional water that you need to soak up.
Thanks for your video, both of my fridge sides(freezer n fridge) forms ice under bottom drawers but there's no clogs on either both sides any idea what could be my problem?
Pouring hot water on the ice really helped breaking the ice up took about a minute and it was thick use with hot water and a scraper. Let it sit first to start melting.
Same Samsung side by side ... purchased mine in 2017. I'm pretty sure this ice build up issue started from day one, although I never had any water on the floor. I didn't really start paying attention until a couple years later after I could no longer pull out the lower drawer, (which I rarely use). It was stuck solid. For whatever reason, I let it go until yesterday. Using the combination of a hair dryer and screwdriver as an icepick, I removed a good 10-15 lbs of ice - was a bear to get enough of the ice out to allow the drawer/shelf to be removed. I'm scratching my head though ... when I removed the back panel, there was no ice at all at the little drain pan or around the heater wire. Any ideas? It's almost as if the water isn't being directed into the pan and goes straight to the freezer. (also cleaned the drain tube ... was a little clogged but not completely - I did open up the orifices some.)
You need to do what my video says to do by pouring hot water into the drain outlet and then make sure it is going out into the hose in the back of the freezer like I show in the latter part of the video. You may have a clogged drain or hose that is preventing any water from draining to the evaporator. Follow all of the instructions.
good video, but doesnt explain why the water freezes at the bottom vs being melted by the heater coil. I even cut a little of the bottom of the drain hose to make it bigger and after a couple weeks still have ice build up. So if you have ice build up there's probably more of a heater coil problem with it not melting your evap coils from the frost buildup.
Hi Paul, I created this post 4 years ago, and I've never had any ice build up since then. I think the water wasn't able to exit through the white slotted plug (nipple) at the end of the drain hose. I'm no expert, but you might have your freezer set too high. On my Samsung, I set the freezer to level 2, but I set the refrigerator side to level 5 or 6.
@@jbpots thanks for the reply. Yes after this happened again in a 3 week period, today I set the freezer lower to see if that was the problem. Time will tell. Now I just have to wait and see. 👍
Try looking in the back at the white nipple thingy and see if it's clogged. You may have to insert a pipe cleaner or something similar to unclog the drain from the inside. Good luck!
Hi, Jerry. I have a question: where does the hot water that is poured down the drain go? Just wondering as some people mentioned using up to 3 cups of hot water. Can using that much water create any other issues?
It will flow through the drain hole, and there is a tray in the back of the freezer that catches it. You may have to get a sponge to soak up the water if you have to use more that the catch tray can handle. Hope this helps.
@@jbpots Thanks, Jerry. I followed the steps that you outlined by removing the ice and pouring some hot water down the drain. I found that there was a small amount of lint in the nipple that connects to the hose in back, so I cleaned that out and reattached it hoping that would solve the issue; however, this morning there again was some ice formation (less than before) at the bottom of the freezer. Any thoughts about what might be the issue
@@donnadegregorio2658 you might have your freezer temp too low, or you could have a faulty defrost unit. Most people that have commented on this post haven't mentioned having the problem after they went through this procedure. If the ice continues to build up, you may need to call a professional. I would add that you should pour water in the drain pan and make sure it drains out the black drain tube in the back bottom of the fridge. There can still be ice down the drain pan.
@@Bones103ify there is a tray under the hole where the water escapes. Under normal conditions, it will evaporate by itself. If you perform this procedure, you will need some towels to soak up the water that you pour through to unclog the drain.
Hi Jerry, so since the time you published this video back in 2018, Dmitry said 3 week ago that if happened once it could happen again. You replied 3 weeks ago also that it has not happened again so far. So since the original post, this has been a 2 years fix without leaking issues so far? That's sounds kind of permanent fix so far. Have you done something else to keep it without clogging or leaking again? Thanks in advanced for your help and confirmation.
@@destacamento2583 I only did what I showed in the video, and it hasn't happened again. My refrigerator wasn't very old when it happened the first time, so I'm guessing that there may have been something that wasn't cleaned out of the line when it was made that caused it to clog. Thanks!
This is the first time that Ive heard about the fix not being successful, so I'm not sure what is causing this. Have you tried removing the white nipple to see if it is clogged? If you have a small air compressor, you might try blowing some air into the drain hole inside the freezer to see if there is a clog other than ice. Also, if you can remove the drain tube that the nipple connects to, try to see if it is clogged. I hope you get it fixed without having to call a repair persona
@@jbpots I appreciate the advice. I cleared out the drain tube and nipple and it still does it. I will try blowing it out with a air compressor. Thanks again!
@@jasonmccormack8060 I hope you find a solution. Blow the air into the drain hose, and through the drain hole in the freezer. Be careful to set the air pressure low and work your way up some. I made a mistake when I tried to blow the dust out of my son's PS5, and the pressure must have been to high because it won't power on now. Sometimes the DIY methods aren't always the best 😉
Sorry to hear that. However, you are the only one out of a lot of remarks about this video that has said that the problem came back. Everyone else has corrected the problem with this procedure in my video. Perhaps you didn't get the drain hose and/or the white nipple cleaned out good enough.
@@jbpots You’re amazing Jerry, Thanks!!
Thanks, it helped
I did all that after 2 weeks it started freezing up again
Sorry to hear that. However, you are the only one out of a lot of remarks about this video that has said that the problem came back. Everyone else has corrected the problem with this procedure in my video.
Perhaps you didn't get the drain hose and/or the white nipple cleaned out good enough. I don't know what else would cause it to come back other than your temperature setting might be too low.
Perfect
Sure appreciate you posting this video! Did not want to mess with finding someone to service Samsung over something I knew would be simple. The clogged nipple was the culprit for me. Thank you!
thank you sir!
Thank you!!!
