  • Did you ever walk into the kitchen and find that your refrigerator seems to be leaking, or there is a sheet of ice on the bottom of your freezer? It's likely that your condensation drain line is clogged, and you can fix it yourself!
This video features Whirlpool model number WRS325FDAW04
This is the flashlight I used to keep the freezer brightly lit while I worked:

Just fixed mine! Took off back panel and made sure drain tubes were clear and they were. Also drain pan was dry so no water was draining from fridge. Went thru freezer took off inside panel and all frozen. Drain line was frozen too. Got a hair dryer and put on high heat or some hot water to melt ice. Well as we were doing this the drain line opened and you can hear the water draining into the bottom pan under fridge. Sounds like a brand new refrigerator! Thanks for the video! Feels good to fix yourself!

You have a new fan. I was having the same issue where ice would accumulate at the bottom of the freezer. Not anymore 😀
Thanks to you I went to the back of the fridge and removed the drain pipe. Sure enough it was full of crud and it was not allowing the water to flow through.
I flushed it out, replaced, & no more ice build up. 👏 thanks again for saving hundreds on a service call.

We've been having this problem as well. Serviceman came out showed me there was ice on the bottom and once a week I would remove the ice. But sometimes the water would run out onto the floor anyway. I was afraid my husband or I wouldn't see the water on the floor and slip and fall. So happy to see a video on this and have a solution to the problem. Thank you so much.

I subscribed. Thank you! I have this issue for an embarrassingly long time. I never learned to fix anything. I am a single homeowner and money is tight. Sometimes I think I had no business buying a house. Lol. I have to call someone to do EVERYTHING which you know is expensive. Watching your videos is inspiring to me! Even when you don’t know exactly how to fix it when you start, you are smart enough to figure it out without messing it up. Lol. A lot of people I watch either make me think it’s more complicated than I can handle or they don’t know what they’re doing and it turns into a funny video because they just make it worse. 😂
Anyway, I’m now going to be able to fix my fridge and probably a lot of other issues around here. You literally made a huge difference in my life with this channel. Thank you so much!

    • @ChickFixUSA
      @ChickFixUSA  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

I'm so glad you find my channel helpful! Most basic repairs around the house are not complicated as they seem. My rule of thumb is that if they sell it at Home Depot or Lowe's, you can do it yourself. Sometimes, you will need to hire a pro, or course, but many things are strait forward if you just have a little bit of guidance.

It is not difficult when one understands the fundamentals of how any equipment functions.
The thing is to surround oneself with people who know more - and let them teach you,
      {That means being teachable]
The name Morell is familiar to me - Going back some 60 years in the UK Midlands.
As near as I recall - The Mr. Morell - had some business with upholstery and Motor trimming.
His wife may have been Scottish - and a good sort at that.
They would have passed on by now - but I still remember them.

Totally agree! I always try to fix things first before calling someone in, and it is usually a bunch of trial and error and eventually finding some weird bit of plastic in the basement that just happens to do the trick on an old appliance. I have friends and neighbours who marvel at my "handiness" and I have to laugh. It's all youtube and not wanting to spend money if I don't have to.

Thanks for your video. I couldn't figure out where my drain hole was and it wasn't until I saw your video that I realised it was clearly visible inside the rear panel of the freezer. But after I took the inside rear panel off I saw the drain hole was covered in two inches of ice. You have to remove everything from the freezer and take off a few screws but this should be your first port of call before messing around behind the refrigerator.

Looks identical to mine. Coils would freeze up, water would freeze in drainage hole. One more thing that I found on TH-cam is to hang a 12 gauge bare copper wire from black heater tube and let it extend down into the hole. Keeps water from freezing in the hole. That’s been several years ago and no problems since. You did an awesome video. Sure saves money on those 100 dollar service calls! TH-cam is my go to place before calling service people. Replaced my ice maker that way also. Only 3 screws and unplug a connector.

thanks for the information I recently just got a 13 years I believed Kenmore side by side refrigerator working again not to much trouble but anyway had the same problem ice building on the bottom of the freezer so I took everything out and apart and yes notice the drain plug was frozen over so what I did I got the ice out of the shelf but I poured hot water in the drain pan into the drain plug plus used a very small screw driver and got all of the ice out of it plus ran several cups of hot water into the drain and the water went straight through and have monitor it since then and no frozen water I believed this problem came from when the refrigerator would not go into defrost mode or cycle and that problem has been fix also but anyway thanks for the information

Great video. I could not get anything to snake through the drain because it made a tight loop seal and blowing did not work. I ended up stuffing a tygon tube up the end where the drip pan is and it made a pretty tight seal. I then vacuumed out a big slug/plug of something and that was it. This worked great because the mess ended up in my shopvac and with the clear tubing I could see the plug as it went through to the vacuum. Very satisfying! Thanks for the video.

If hot water does not do the trick, try using an air compressor connected to the bottom drip tube to see if you can get air flowing up through the drain in the freezer. We just did it this morning after having issues for several months. Ours is a top freezer. After a few short moments running the air compressor, the freezer drain started to bubble and some water and ice shot out. Then the air started flowed freely up through the drain hole. We kept the air going a few minutes and immediately tried flushing water down the freezer drain and whoosh, the water went right down. And I flushed a LOT down to be sure. We used a bucket and noticed that several tiny pieces of styrofoam came out with the water. That had to be what was clogging the drip tube!

If you have a Whirlpool refrigerator with that duck bill valve clogging causing ice on the bottom of the fridge, just open the back of the fridge and remove it. You don’t really need it and it is a common problem.

My fridge looks nearly identical and had the same drain clogged. I just fixed it today, I hope it does the trick. But it felt great to just take care of it myself and not keep waiting for Mr “I’ll get to it”

Thank so much! I rent and I have this same problem. We don't call the landlord for things like this we just fix it. Or I should say I the wife fixes it... I love it too. So satisfying 😌

Always! New things, old things, everything that has screws will have one that will make a 5 minute job take over an hour.

You can remove the plastic drain pipe by pulling it down from the fridge. You have to remove the screw in the back first. Then clean it with a tube brush.
