    My freezer was leaking and I couldn't find any videos that showed my type of freezer until this one. The drain hole, for some reason, was plugged with some plastic plug for some unknown reason. The drainage tube had a small screw stuck in it. The screw rusted so much that it clogged the tube with rust. I don't know how in the hell a screw got stuck in there. After all that was fixed I poured a small amount of water into the drain and sure enough you could hear it drain out the tube on the backside. I just put everything back together and flipped the breaker back on. It's 2:24 in the morning and my fingers are crossed but I'm optimistic. Thank you again for the video!

    How long should it take the drain to thaw? I've been pooring hot water down it and used a blow dryer for a while, but the water still won't drain.

    • @jbpots

      Try looking in the back at the white nipple thingy and see if it's clogged. You may have to insert a pipe cleaner or something similar to unclog the drain from the inside. Good luck!

      Sorry to hear that. However, you are the only one out of a lot of remarks about this video that has said that the problem came back. Everyone else has corrected the problem with this procedure in my video. Perhaps you didn't get the drain hose and/or the white nipple cleaned out good enough. I don't know what else would cause it to come back other than your temperature setting might be too low.

    Another helpful trick to thaw the ice build up is to fill up a ziplock bag with hot tap water and lay the bag(s) of hot water on the ice build up. This thaws the ice pretty quickly without adding additional water that you need to soak up.

  • @paulwinkelman
    @paulwinkelman ปีที่แล้ว

    good video, but doesnt explain why the water freezes at the bottom vs being melted by the heater coil. I even cut a little of the bottom of the drain hose to make it bigger and after a couple weeks still have ice build up. So if you have ice build up there's probably more of a heater coil problem with it not melting your evap coils from the frost buildup.

    • @jbpots
      @jbpots ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Paul, I created this post 4 years ago, and I've never had any ice build up since then. I think the water wasn't able to exit through the white slotted plug (nipple) at the end of the drain hose. I'm no expert, but you might have your freezer set too high. On my Samsung, I set the freezer to level 2, but I set the refrigerator side to level 5 or 6.

    I have done this process 5 times now and every time my drain just gets clogged again. I am not sure what else could be causing this.

    • @jbpots
      @jbpots 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      This is the first time that Ive heard about the fix not being successful, so I'm not sure what is causing this. Have you tried removing the white nipple to see if it is clogged? If you have a small air compressor, you might try blowing some air into the drain hole inside the freezer to see if there is a clog other than ice. Also, if you can remove the drain tube that the nipple connects to, try to see if it is clogged. I hope you get it fixed without having to call a repair persona

    • @jbpots
      @jbpots 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jasonmccormack8060 I hope you find a solution. Blow the air into the drain hose, and through the drain hole in the freezer. Be careful to set the air pressure low and work your way up some. I made a mistake when I tried to blow the dust out of my son's PS5, and the pressure must have been to high because it won't power on now. Sometimes the DIY methods aren't always the best 😉

    Hi, Jerry. I have a question: where does the hot water that is poured down the drain go? Just wondering as some people mentioned using up to 3 cups of hot water. Can using that much water create any other issues?

    • @jbpots
      @jbpots 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It will flow through the drain hole, and there is a tray in the back of the freezer that catches it. You may have to get a sponge to soak up the water if you have to use more that the catch tray can handle. Hope this helps.

    • @donnadegregorio2658
      @donnadegregorio2658 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jbpots Thanks, Jerry. I followed the steps that you outlined by removing the ice and pouring some hot water down the drain. I found that there was a small amount of lint in the nipple that connects to the hose in back, so I cleaned that out and reattached it hoping that would solve the issue; however, this morning there again was some ice formation (less than before) at the bottom of the freezer. Any thoughts about what might be the issue

    • @jbpots
      @jbpots 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Going to try this tomorrow. Third time in 3 weeks dealing with ice build up. Have found that pouring vinegar on the ice build up at bottom is very helpful. May have to chip at sides a little first to allow vinegar to get between ice and walls of freezer, but ice block build up will slide right out. I use a ice scraper from the car to chip at the ice to avoid damage with a metal object. This is especially baffling because we do not have our ice maker hooked up to a water supply. Thanks Jerry!

    • @jbpots
      @jbpots 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm not sure, but I think the ice build-up is coming from the defrost cycle. A freezer has to go through a defrost cycle regularly to prevent ice from building on the sides of the freezer. When that melts, it is supposed to drain through the back of the freezer and then be dried by the evaporator coils. I don't think it has anything to do with the icemaker. If you will follow all instructions including the cleaning out of the white nipple and tube and all other drain tube, it should not happen again. I did this procedure one time, and it hasn't happened again, and it's been s a few years. Thanks and good luck!
