You should add rear lower control arms when you do coilovers on an STI because the added camber will tuck the top of the rear tires in so there's less rubbing. Also you need to roll the rear fenders when you have wider wheels and coilovers, even with the adjustable LCAs. Source - I own a 2015 STI with these parts.
Great vid. Very important to note the OEM suspension differences between wrx and sti for us wrx owners considering this. I think if I do coils I'll do LCAs as well just to keep everything adjustable to keep it in spec.
Good stuff! Glad you're happy with them. It would be really interesting to be able to compare these Fortune coilovers to a high end coilover, like Ohlins. But as far as exhausts, I think the Corsa exhaust is a good choice. Pretty subtle for daily use, no drone, not crazy loud, but it's there when you get on the gas.
Dude, you crack me up. Thanks for the solid review and details. The aftermarket wheels and slight rake look really good. Like you said, a small adjustment does make a big difference.
Great timing. Just received my Fortune's (got the swift springs and radial bearing upgrade with 7k springs). I appreciate the insight and review. Wish you were closer as I would love help on the install haha. 2 kids and getting too old for this crap. Keep it up bud. Love the content.
I've installed coils and suspension on these cars before, so should be easy. Just wouldn't mind the extra help! I'm 31 with 2 kids. I think when you hit 30, it's all over haha.
I got pulled over the other day because my new 2017 STI didn't have a front license plate and I had a Virginia registration even though I live in Maryland so I also got a violation for that, lol
Invidia R400 is a solid choice for a catback. Not sure about your STi, but it didn't produce any drone at highway speeds on my WRX. Different motors, I know, but there's a resonator in the midpipe as well as decently sized mufflers. I think keeping the quad tips is the way to go on these cars, as having a single exit really makes the other side of the rear diffuser look too empty I think. I bought mine from MAPerformance, as they quite often have 10% off deals on products over $500 or so.
Yessir it's a great look for the rear end of these cars. It should add some more tone mostly. If you're comfortable with the dB level of your SPT, I think the R400 won't be an issue with highway commutes, family riding along, etc. I don't have any highway drone. Cold starts...you can definitely tell it's not stock, but it's not unbearable. I just had to watch a bunch of videos before making my decision.
When I had an evo 8 that was low as hell in philly it was very bad my 17 sti is stock and will stay that way the evo 8 had all 4 rims bent and the suspension was fucked from how bad the potholes were now the potholes r not as bad but in 2014 it was really bad should of never sold it though
i have coils on mine sometimes it's annoying and I wish I was at normal ride height and comfy suspension but overall it doesn't feel bad at all really unless there is absolutely trash roads then it feels crappy because you are in a bouncy house but its a bit worse for me since I am on racing coils but I can also soften them up but I choose not to
Thanks for the video. I went with the hks sp coilovers and I'm bouncing all over on bad roads. I think I just need to alter the dampening settings as you mentioned. I'll ask the alignment guy to do it tomorrow.
Quick question did you get your alignment at a local dealer/tire shop or an aftermarket shop? I have eibach coils on my 16 sti and my dealer gave me hell about doing an alignment but I really want c/o and I can only imagine what would happen if I came in with those on!
man that little opening was awesome. car looks AMAZING! What tint % did you go with I'm gonna get mine tinted here and a couple weeks and that's the look I'm going for
T-WRX that's what I'm gonna go with then.. this week I almost traded in my 17 base for a scat pack. so glad I didn't. love these sti's. not sure what I was thinking lol
T-WRX I gotta stay posted to see what you do with your exhaust.. I have the spt as Well and it had that stupid midpipe. we paid a premium for the spt so most of me just wants to stick with it, (it looks super slick if you mirror shine it up with metal polish) but part of me wants more noise
Springs have nothing to do with the harshness. That would all be dampening and bounciness would be rebound. It’s not harsh cause you have it so low. Springs purpose is to support dampeners and maintain ride height. You should really watch someone like Engineering Explained channel to understand what your suspension parts are designed to do.
Hey T, are you financing your STI? And are you planning on eventually trading it in for a 2020 model etc or do you think you will stick with it for a while to come ?
Yessir, money is cheap to borrow right now so I financed part of it. I'm sort of waiting to see what happens for 2020, if its a legit huge upgrade I'll probably get one and try it out! But I'll miss the rumble :(
Can you make a video on how to adjust the height in the rear? Also, when u mentioned you need lower control arms to go lower, is that because it has zero camber adjustment with stock control arms and you'd need to add camber?
I’ve been looking at the BC racing DS series coil overs for a daily driver that also hauls kids and does Uber eats deliveries. Would it be to stiff or “jarring” for young kids?
Hey man, quick question about the rear camber for both sides (since you did not install lower control arms). For that amount of drop, was the camber similar side to side (left rear camber vs right rear camber) or was the camber off by a lot? Fronts are obvious, you can just adjust the camber so that it is the same. I am wondering in case i get coilovers for my wrx... I wouldn't want to go too low (kinda like this setup) thank you.
Curious how it handles since you are running the same compression setting/spring rate front and rear??? I would think that would either make the rear too stiff or the front too soft??
Is there anyway to direct message you? I've got in contact with Fortune Auto a few weeks back and I had some additional queuing your not super crazy busy. Thank you.
Hello, I saw in the Gears and Gasoline video that you were pretty tall, I am 6'8" and also looking to buy a base model 2018 STi. How tall are you and how well do you fit?
Yo man, I'm 6'5" tall. Definitely get the base STi, the limited comes with a sunroof and it robs you of headroom. I easy have 3-4 inches maybe more above my head in my STi. Leg length is fine as is shoe fitment on the pedals. Let me know if you have any other questions. Where do you live? If your local you can come sit in mine. I'm in VA.
T-WRX I am in Northern California, I wear a size 16 shoe but pedals aren't a issue on most cars, just comfortably fitting my legs under the wheel. If you fit good I'm sure I will too, thanks for replying!
IGEUS_YT due to other unforeseen circumstances I ended up in a 18 Challenger. After my test drive with the STi my body fit, but I was constantly shifting into my knee and it was rather annoying, but doable. No problems at all in the Challenger, it has more room than my old Ram.
Do it! I wish it was the first part I installed when I had my 04 WRX. Makes a crazy difference. FastWRX makes a nice rear swaybat kit that is competitively priced vs. Whiteline products.
+Glenn Fernandez nope, I got the RBM upgrade as I mentioned. It removes any of the clunking or popping that you car get with the front spring. For $80 it's a must have upgrade 👍
T-WRX Aight! I like you for not taking it serious. You earned my respect. I just stumbled on your channel and it was my first impression lol. Nice car tho! Im searching around if WRX or STI would be great daily driver. In terms of fuel economy, drivability and comfortability. Im coming from a Fully modded 08 Evo. And thinking that im matured enough and get rid of race head feeling and instead start saving money for my future.
I really need to lower my Mustang. It always looks like it's in 4x4 mode.
You should add rear lower control arms when you do coilovers on an STI because the added camber will tuck the top of the rear tires in so there's less rubbing. +Anthony Zupanek thanks for watching man! These would for sure be "harsher" to a WRX owner.
+binyamj noted, I'll take a look!
Dude, you crack me up. Thanks for the solid review and details. The aftermarket wheels and slight rake look really good. Like you said, a small adjustment does make a big difference.
I like that "heavy" feel on the steering wheel. You get some nice feedback 👍🏼
Yeah man, its great!
Great timing. Just received my Fortune's (got the swift springs and radial bearing upgrade with 7k springs). I appreciate the insight and review. Wish you were closer as I would love help on the install haha. 2 kids and getting too old for this crap. Keep it up bud. Love the content.
Thanks dude! I appreciate you checking out the videos. Install is easy, I'll be 30 soon and have 2 kids do I count as old yet?
I've installed coils and suspension on these cars before, so should be easy. Just wouldn't mind the extra help! I'm 31 with 2 kids. I think when you hit 30, it's all over haha.
I got pulled over the other day because my new 2017 STI didn't have a front license plate and I had a Virginia registration even though I live in Maryland so I also got a violation for that, lol
nice!!! Can you please do a walkthrough of your car? and maybe a pov or just a video? No one posted any 17 sti vids yet lol..
+VirgGaming lol, dude VA traffic laws are brutal
VirgGaming good for you👍👍✌️
I've heard great things about the Corsa exhaust! :) Glad you're liking the Fortune Auto Coils bro!! I'd like to do coils soon, too.
+NinjaxBart nice I'll check it out!
Beautiful ride. Thanks for the review. What kind of mudflaps are those?
Thanks for the review, looks great I'm glad you are enjoying them😎
+DronesJumpingIn thanks for watching 👍

R400 is a drone canon.
Tomei Expreme Ti is the way to go.
scared of goign that low especially with all the pot holes around my area..
Dodge, Duck, Dip, Dive and Dodge!
Duck, dive, dip, duck, and Dodge.
When I had an evo 8 that was low as hell in philly it was very bad my 17 sti is stock and will stay that way the evo 8 had all 4 rims bent and the suspension was fucked from how bad the potholes were now the potholes r not as bad but in 2014 it was really bad should of never sold it though

Change your spring rate to 8k like OP
2 adults and 1 car seat fit fine. You wouldn't want to drive for 8 hrs this way, but anywhere in your own area would be fine
Was thinking about getting a set of these🤔 car looks good not slammed but lower than stock height.
I would do the Downpipe and ELH. But, Greddy or HKS always deliver.
+Yosvani Morales trying to avoid a tune for now... I know it's inevitable though.
if you dont slam the car to the ground you do not need rear adjustable lower control arms to stay in spec
+hypnoticd lol I'm only .5 inch lower in the rear and I'm out of spec
Quick question did you get your alignment at a local dealer/tire shop or an aftermarket shop? I have eibach coils on my 16 sti and my dealer gave me hell about doing an alignment but I really want c/o and I can only imagine what would happen if I came in with those on!
I went to an aftermarket shop that does a lot of subarus. They do coilover setup all the time!
man that little opening was awesome. car looks AMAZING! What tint % did you go with I'm gonna get mine tinted here and a couple weeks and that's the look I'm going for
+Geoff /// M Nelson thanks dude! I'm legal limit here in VA, 50% on front two windows and 35% all around the back 👍
T-WRX that's what I'm gonna go with then.. this week I almost traded in my 17 base for a scat pack. so glad I didn't. love these sti's. not sure what I was thinking lol
Have the exact year and color , looks exactly like my ride with the grey on black colorway
Good review Chuck! Car looks great!!
+KenSkywalker thanks Ken 👍

Perfect daily driving height !
What kind of changes will you be making with your smaller winter tire setup?
+jack bing hopefully none! But we'll see how they fit in a few months 👍
Sick intro Rudeboy.🔥🔥🔥🔥BIG!!!!!
Thanks for this video I have a wrx and looking for some coilovers this helped a lot
I’m thinking about coilovers on my stock forester. I’d need to be higher to the ground because of Michigan winters. Any thoughts or information?
did you notice a smoother ride over bumps/ruts running a digressive setup FA provides?
Looks great. What’s the color on your sti?
Nice video man.
How do you like those Kumho's?
+Miles Beasley they've been solid so far. No big complaints but not amazing enough that I preach about them.
Great video. Specs and brand of the wheels? Subscribed.
Hey T, are you financing your STI? And are you planning on eventually trading it in for a 2020 model etc or do you think you will stick with it for a while to come ?

Nice car dude. Hey man, how many inches from the fender to the ground? Thx man.
Love the ride height looks clean!
just got mine in last week. What were your measurements from the bottom spring collar to the locking collar ?
Car looks great man! I can't wait for you to start doing some engine mods.
Thanks for watching dude!
Damn... I was really curious what castor readings u had. LOL
Castor would account for the heavier weight when steering is off centre
Can you make a video on how to adjust the height in the rear? Also, when u mentioned you need lower control arms to go lower, is that because it has zero camber adjustment with stock control arms and you'd need to add camber?
Super excited to order these for my Evo 8!
Doooo ittt!
T-WRX did you have to adjust the preload ? Or do they already have it set? Thanks
I did it myself, but its super easy.
I'd kill my whole family execution style for an evo8. No remorse lol
2017 Wrx damn. I want an Evo 9 so bad but idk if I'd go that far lol
I’ve been looking at the BC racing DS series coil overs for a daily driver that also hauls kids and does Uber eats deliveries. Would it be to stiff or “jarring” for young kids?
Does anything change if i have a 2016 WRX base not STI? Also, are those 18" wheels? Thanks for the video!

nevermind! watched till the end of the video where you show the alignment , hahah! thanks
How do you like the coilovers on the highway?
Hey I’m looking in Fortune Autos on my 17 STI. What’s your spring rate?
Curious how it handles since you are running the same compression setting/spring rate front and rear??? I would think that would either make the rear too stiff or the front too soft??
+Sean Welden feels great on the road, but I've not tracked it or autocrossed it with the new setup.
Love the silver man
Is there anyway to direct message you? I've got in contact with Fortune Auto a few weeks back and I had some additional queuing your not super crazy busy. Thank you.
+jordan aviano hey dude, email me twrxchuck@gmail or hit me up on Instagram!
Quick question, have you ever gotten water spots on your car?
hey man, old video but how much did you drop the car and how many did you have left
I might have missed it, but what kind of coilovers are they?
+Clayton Binder haha I said that almost first thing. They are Fortune Auto 500 series Generation 6. Thanks for watching 👍
I'm looking to upgrade my bc racing coils to either ohlins or fortune. I do want to know how this feels while driving
What’s your tire/wheel set up?
Hello, I saw in the Gears and Gasoline video that you were pretty tall, I am 6'8" and also looking to buy a base model 2018 STi. How tall are you and how well do you fit?

Im 6'11 and fit very comfortably in my 15 WRX!
6'5" in NorCal, #TallSTiOwners
IGEUS_YT due to other unforeseen circumstances I ended up in a 18 Challenger. After my test drive with the STi my body fit, but I was constantly shifting into my knee and it was rather annoying, but doable. No problems at all in the Challenger, it has more room than my old Ram.
Any plans on installing a rear sway bar?
+jonizzzle possibly...
Do it! I wish it was the first part I installed when I had my 04 WRX. Makes a crazy difference. FastWRX makes a nice rear swaybat kit that is competitively priced vs. Whiteline products.
Chuck, where ya been ?
Just chillin, raising babies and shit. Got a muffler delete video coming at you soon!
How’s the ride comfort?
I have fortune auto 500s on my s2000. How do you adjust height on these again?
+kevin j you loosen the bottom collar and the whole top of the unit spins up or down 👌
Love your videos first
+Purdey Sahadeo thanks dude, I appreciate it!
Invidia N1 all the way! I said this on your insta post too! i have 1 video on my channel if you want to hear it on my 2017 STI :)
+Jake Hawkins I like the quad tips though!
T-WRX ahh I can understand that, sometimes I do miss the quads!
Is that the highest setting for ride height or is is set down a little from there?
Def not the highest, was set down a bit.
Thank You great video.
What is a fender roller?
What ride height is it at
i need to roll my fenders! what tool did you buy?
Yo man, this is the one we picked up! It's cheap, but in person pretty solid quality.
amzn.to/2vwGG2p
Thanks!
what are those rims??
Is this behind wegmans?
+Peter Pawlak hahaha nope 😁
How is turn in feel vs stock? And did you notice any change in balance mid corner with that rake?
+msbtennis turn in is super sharp, but that is probably the alignment. I don't notice any weirdness with the rake thus far. But I'm not pro driver 😁
fuck driving that in Dallas! my wrx is rough enough as is. still though if subaru would have put the fa in the sti i would have 100% bought one.
What wheels are these?
What rims are these
what size wheels are those?
+Tomsanity 18x9.5 +42
think a 2018 sti would be dailyable with the 19' rims?
'Little people' LMAO!
What’s the intro song
Any weird clunking noises? I hear that's one of the issues with installing coilovers on sti's
+Glenn Fernandez nope, I got the RBM upgrade as I mentioned. It removes any of the clunking or popping that you car get with the front spring. For $80 it's a must have upgrade 👍
Name of the song please, been listening to every nig**as bleed remix on the web and i couldn't find it ;(, Thanks in advance bro
Dope music
Anyone noticed, he looks like alvin the chipmunk?
+Ricky Marlbro lol, he's my cousin
T-WRX Aight! I like you for not taking it serious. You earned my respect. I just stumbled on your channel and it was my first impression lol. Nice car tho! Im searching around if WRX or STI would be great daily driver. In terms of fuel economy, drivability and comfortability. Im coming from a Fully modded 08 Evo. You got new subscriber btw! Keep it up
Haha thanks dude! I daily my STi with no problems, power wise I'm stock though!
For a daily driver car she is thirsty even in si mode...
+WRX LOVE lol agreed!
My only issue with this video review is when you discuss the “dampening” it is damping! Two different things! Words mean things.
You should buy a Toyota Corolla.
Nice corolla
+sverma101 hey it's a Corolla S!
Lol
Jealous kid lol
What the fuck is wrong to drive a Toyota Corolla dude?
You are definitely not driving a bmw m4
Lol much Taiwan stuff is it.
😬
Ditch the wing....
Dirt nasty low
What wheels are those?
What kind of wheels are these?
