As a Phils fan, this is the stuff we’ve longed for for almost a decade and a half. No matter what happens this week, this team has truly brought the love of the sport back to the city.
As someone who is new to baseball, I really appreciate you giving all the context with your analysis. The kinds of pitches you expect to see on the counts, what might be going through the players heads in that kind of situation, what the ramifications are of each outcome. It's really helping me gain a greater appreciation and understanding of the game. Thank you.
Agreed, it's really the only way I follow baseball other than live games, and Jomboy makes it more understandable than being at a live game (but going with those that know the sport, helps me follow along)
@@8stormy5 my high school coach would preach this over and over during the offseason. We did way more studying the game in comparison to on field practice durring the fall/winter.
Jomboy deserves a ton of appreciation. I've always been a baseball fan, but I personally know multiple people who have become fans because of his content. Originally, they watched because he's funny. But they stayed for the knowledge and insight.
JomBoy is THE reason I started to pay more attention to baseball. Learning about the gamesmanship/mind games Pitchers and Batters are playing, brought some life to the game.
@@littlewicky1 yeah Jon Bois got me to care about the history and weird stories of this sport, and then Jomboy got me to start paying attention to the current season and the small moments that I always thought were boring and kept me from watching it. The good pipeline
One of my favorite Maddux stories is that it's near the end of the season and he was facing a hitter he expected to see in the postseason (I forget who, someone whose name I should remember tho). Anyway he lobs a slider over the middle of the plate hoping the hitter will clobber it, which they do. Then in the postseason, when Maddux faced this hitter he never once threw his slider and the hitter went 0-fer.
Reminds me of stories on the Cardinals broadcasts about Pujols purposely exaggerating how fooled he was by a pitch early in the an bat just so he could sit on it later in the sequence/game. Might be a sort of urban legend but I wouldn't put it past him, either.
George Will told a version of that story but it was an inside fastball which Bagwell hit out of the park in an 8-0 game. None of it is believable, as told. Supposedly Bagwell kept looking for another inside fastball [why?]. What is the thinking? "Maddux lost a shutout on this pitch and is therefore going to throw it again in a postseason game." I call B.S.
I think Maddux did something like this but it would be so the hitter would not expect the same pitch in the same location. And in the postseason, he threw it better. I don't believe he gave up a HR in a shutout on purpose.
10:53 Realmuto took a shot to the right arm when Diaz "leaned into the pitch". A little surprised Jomboy didn't call that out as well, but Realmuto didn't seem phased by it.
That game was an all-timer. This postseason has been absolutely ludicrous. I became a fan in '93 as a kid and saw in '08 what a win does for this city. I'm excited for kids to be drawn to baseball by this insane series. I'm pulling for my Phillies so people will be talking about this roster forever.
The worst part about Diaz leaning into that ball isn't that it wasn't really that high or inside....but the fact that it careened off of his well padded elbow straight into a really odd part of Realmuto's not padded bicep/forearm. Had to hurt.
So good! You got me and the lady hooked on your videos and we don't even watch baseball. Your breakdowns, knowledge and enthusiasm are contagious and your videos are extremely funny and entertaining. Never stop!
I like that you think about where you put your camera. You put it over the pitch when you were talking about the pitcher spinning after missing his spot, hiding the pitch/ ball definitely made me focus more on the pitcher. It's the little things jomboy is doing that makes the channel incredible
As a Phil’s fan or just a baseball fan glad you do what you do I’m 23 years old but you help keep baseball alive and for people my age they don’t care so keep doing you. I love it

Definitely one of the best games I've ever watched. As a Phillies fan, its going down in my memory for a lot of other reasons, but you can't ask for a better game 1 of the World Series.
2:51 I don't think the issue is whether it's in the glove or not, it's when the glove is touching his body. The glove makes contact with the body too late. I think that angle is very deceiving because it looks like the glove is touching the whole time, but from a previous angle it's doesn't seem to and for me once the glove starts crumpling it's touching
You should do an hour-long breakdown of the entire game, Jimmy. It was that much of a classic and you're the guy America needs to give the game the detailed attention it so richly deserves.
Some baseball seasons are more memorable than others. I think 2022 is going to be remembered for a long while. We're getting a great World Series to cap it all off. I say Phils will win it in 5, but both teams are giving us some amazing baseball to end this super year!

This is what people who say, "baseball's boring," don't get about the sport. There's the game -- the hits, home runs, strikeouts, great plays. And then there's the game WITHIN the game. Pitch selection, gamesmanship, moving in 20 feet to save the run -- all of it. These kind of nuanced details and mental gymnastics is what makes baseball so great.
That hit by pitch call was gutsy, but absolutely correct. I kinda wonder if the controversy from that one Mets game led to this moment being called correctly
