    Something to mention. When Harper stepped up to bat, the sun fell behind the clouds no longer putting the shadows into play for the batter. Yadi, noticing this, paid a visit to the mound, trying to buy some time for the clouds to clear out and make them a factor once again. If you watched the full inning you could see him looking up at the sky as he walked back to his catching position. Just a cheeky little veteran move that likely went unnoticed by some that I thought was interesting. Unfortunately for the Cardinals the clouds were there to stay for the remainder of the inning.

  • @crazysteve9390

    In the era of shifted defenses and everyone swinging for the fences, it was kind of nice to see 6 runs on 3 hits, all singles, with walks, a HBP, a fielder’s choice, a sac fly, etc. And how genius does Thomson look putting Sosa in as a pinch runner.. that amazing slide into the plate.

    • @flaccidego4291

      And thank the Cardinals manager. He's an idiot. His starting pitcher had a 2 hit shut out, was still at velocity & only threw 75 pitches & he took him out!! Then his reliever walks his 1st 2 batters. The manager also knew that the reliever had an injured index finger on his pitching hand & he still kept him in!
      Remember, in baseball, managers don't win games, managers only lose games. The manager lost the game for his team for his BONEHEADED decisions.

      @@crazysteve9390 Ay we won the series, I don't think we're going deep but this is already further than anyone thought we'd get, including me. The way things were going I didn't think we would even make the playoffs, now I'm stoked that we won a series. Baseball is a crazy game.

    • @sneersh9107
      @sneersh9107 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@randytrashcan That's part of the game though... you have to make the plays to get the outs. If you can't make the plays you don't win the game, it's that simple. Phillies did their job working those walks and putting the ball in play and taking advantage. They could've rolled over and died but they didn't. Phillies defense was solid and the Cardinals was not, and it made all the difference. Also huge props to Wheeler for putting us in a position where it was a close game to begin with.

  • @CapnPink28

    If the 1st baseman threw to 2nd and then back to first for the double play, the run would not have counted. But, I think if he stepped on first and then threw to 2nd for the tag out double play, the run would count if he was before the tag at 2nd.

    • @flaccidego4291
      @flaccidego4291 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      That's not a choke. The reason for the loss is because that manager is a JOKE! He & he alone lost the game for his team. His starter had given up only 2 hits, was still at velocity & only threw 75 pitches & he took him out!!! And he took him out for a reliever who had an injured index finger on his pitching hand & the said that he couldn't feel his index finger because it was numb!! And the manager knew this!!! Pitching is all about feel of the hand with finger placement on the on the ball and the index finger is the most important finger in the grip & release of the pitch!!!
      So the pitcher can't feel his most important finger so that's why his pitches were all over the place & the idiot manager knew this! So the idiot knew his relief pitcher couldn't feel his main finger on the ball. He saw him give up a lead off hit, then throw wild & walk the next 2 batters & nearly hitting one & he still kept him in!!
      & it was only a matter of time before he would hit a batter which he did to the next batter up! Give much credit to the Phillies for easily taking advantage of an idiot manager

      this sort of thing is 100% why consistency matters even more than pure accuracy when it comes to the strike zone, it's perfectly possible to call 95% of all pitches accurately yet still give a massive advantage to a given team in a high leverage situation

    • @sneersh9107
      @sneersh9107 ปีที่แล้ว

      Umps seemed to screw over the Phillies tonight as well. First off I thought for sure that Harper avoided the tag and was safe on that slide into 2B. Likewise in the 8th and 9th there were a couple calls that should've been strikeouts against the Cards but were instead called balls and lead to the inning going on much longer. Luckily the Cards weren't able to capitalize.

    As a Yankees fan, that inning by Helsley makes me so glad that Chapman is off our roster for the ALDS. There's nothing more infuriating than seeing your "closer" issue 2 straight walks followed by a HBP when the game's on the line.

    As a Phillies fan, I screamed a lot during the 9th inning, and cried A LOT when we won the next day. Eleven LONG years! I was 11 when Howard tore his Achilles vs the Cardinals in 2011. 11 years of pain and growth, and we're back PHINALLY!

    This Philles Cards series was such a tense series. Game 2 was a nail bitter. Wanna see a Seattle Jays, Game 2 coverage. Also that Guardians Tampa 1-0 15 innings game 2 win...sheeesh. Love this Wild Card weekend, all the games were amazing.

    Helsley jammed his finger last week and came back for this game. First inning, he was fine. Second inning, it was numb. But he should've been pulled before that. Combine that with our gold glovers making mistakes, whole thing exploded.
    That missed strike 3 call from the ump also directly lead to a run.
    Goldy also threw home because Segura is fast and they didn't think they'd be able to get the double play which would eliminate the run. But it was Edmundo friggin Sosa on 3rd, former Card and one of the fastest players in the league.

    I was watching this game at work. I turned it off at the start on the 9th as it was time to close up and go home. I got home about 35 minutes later, checked the score, and was quite surprised. Made me feel stupid for turning the game off.

    Helsley jammed his finger and was removed from the Cardinals' game on Tuesday. It clearly was not fully recovered, and probably was not a good idea to bring him in during the 8th inning making him have to pitch, then the sit while it stiffens up, and then have to come back in for the 9th.
