    Literally just taking the place of the Dodge Journey, people seem to forget about that car and it’s purpose.

    I enjoy having many different vehicles. I have my scat pack & Silverado, the wife has a Cherokee that we love and a Kia, another Silverado and Toyota.
    They all have their own purpose.
    I think the" Hornet" would be an interesting little vehicle for the wife or just for a daily drive around vehicle. Sometimes I just enjoy taking turns driving different vehicles throughout the day. I enjoy taking care of them and experiencing them all.
    My main point is, I'd try the " Hornet". It could replace the wife's Cherokee when the Cherokee is ready to be handed down to one of our girls.

    If the Hornet came in a trim level that had a manual transmission, I would take a look at it as a possible daily driver for me.
    From the people I talked to, I think the disappointment came from rebadging an Alfa Romeo and trying to pass it off a a Dodge “gateway to muscle”.

    Excellent video, Racer X! I never hated on the Hornet myself. I understood immediately, despite the marketing, that this is for the masses. That said, the Hornet is quite capable, especially it's power to weight ratio. It has performance breaks too, and AWD!
    This is NOT a muscle car. People need to get past the marketing and see for themselves. The Hornet is the FOUNDATION for greater things to come! The Hornet will pave the way for future products that will eventually lead to our muscle interests, and then some! We're the minority. The Hornet is not for us, but know it's one piece in a larger puzzle for greater things to come! Have patience, and give Dodge a chance!

    • @_texan306
      @_texan306 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I understand that it’s not a muscle car, but what separates this car from the million other CCUV offerings from every other manufacturer? The power? The only people who care about power ARE enthusiasts, and it’s too lame to be wanted by them. Normal people would go for a C-RV before a dodge hornet. It has no market

    • @SovereignKnight74
      @SovereignKnight74 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      @@_texan306 Let's take the power equation out for a moment. When's the last time you've seen a C-RV with Brembo performance breaks, or any performance breaks for that matter? Better brakes translate into shorter stopping distances. That's always a good thing when you are trying to avoid a collision! The C-RV lacks AWD by default, unless specifically purchased as an option. In the Hornet, this is STANDARD. AWD translates into a valuable safety feature in the form of traction! Having high performance breaks and AWD is a clear winner over a C-RV in regard to safety. The C-RV comes with a CVT transmission, and CVT transmissions are not that great. Rubber banding effects and sluggish performance are common complaints by many owners of a CVT. A CVT transmission is noted as being less reliable than a standard automatic transmission. CVT transmission tend to act up and shutter. They are also prone to overheating. CVT transmissions can not be repaired. They must be fully replaced. They can not be repaired like a standard automatic transmission. That said, you'll get a real NINE SPEED transmission in the Hornet, with no "rubber banding" effects and sluggishness. You'll be hard-pressed to find ANY vehicle in this segment, with the offerings the Hornet brings @ the $30k. The Hornet is an INCREDIBLE value for the money. With 14K + orders already, I'd say there's a lot of "abnormal" people buying it.

      @@SovereignKnight74 I agree with your points here Sovereign except I'm still concerned that many people who purchase these types of cross overs already have brand loyalty such as Kia or Honda etc. I think it's going to take alot of Dodge marketing dollars to convince people to jump ship and get a Dodge next time they are in the market. Lastly, the style is so very similar to many of the cars in it's class...the quality from Dodge will have to be damn near perfect to score with the public IMO. Thanks for sharing your opinion here.

      @@_texan306 Oh I think you are mistaken! What about seniors that loved their old hot hatches and diamond star motor vehicles? It may not be a "muscle car" but in truth neither is the Mexican assembled hemi in name only with final assembly in Canada on a Mercedes platform Challengers and Chargers!! If they can be called Muscle cars (Snicker) so can be the Daytona Charger EV that will outperform them! I believe the Charger EV will be USA assembled as its already rumored to be going to happen! The hornet is and will be a performance car in its class! That fits into Dodge as the performance division just as the Viper fit in also once upon a time! Dodges vehicle offerings were getting mighty slim! 3 vehicles 2 of which were built on the same platform and the Durango. They need at least five different vehicles to be a really functioning division.

    I really wish Dodge would consider introducing a hybrid Challenger. For the foreseeable future, you won't be able to take long road trips in an EV. And one of the best things about owning a big comfortable car like the Challenger are the long road trips you can take across the US.

    Being an old AMC guy yes still have a Javelin and a Hornet. Knowing Dodge bought the brand only for Jeep glad to see them at least using a name from the past. The AMC sites Hate it. I don't think it's terrible, I'd drive one. I'm gonna say they need to be more competitive with KIA price wise if they intend to produce similar style of vehicle's.

    • @ExaltedDuck
      @ExaltedDuck 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Only way to be price competitive with Kia is to cut corners on design like Kia. If it takes a 10-15% larger sticker price for a similarly equipped vehicle but it last 10-12 years instead of 6-7, They'll be on a good path.

    In contrast to the Banshee, I felt that the Hornet was a rushed/lazy attempt to be compliant with environmental regulations. You're beyond right with the message of your video that the vast majority of the outrage is unfounded. Not every criticism is, but the one's about Dodge going out of business, etc. are naïve, at best.
    1+ Million people had watched the day 2 video by the time day 3 went live, does that sound like it's going out of business to anyone? I’m also going to be extremely blunt with this comment: the future of performance at Dodge, as they’ve stated, is electric. The hornet is supposedly a vehicle that if they sell a lot of , it helps fund that future.
    I don’t want that future. I hope the Hornet fails on its face, and I sincerely hope Dodge as a brand absolutely falls on its face and fails in their approach.
    At some point, people have to start fighting back against this ridiculous move to earth destroying EVs. It’s not good for the environment, hybrids would be your better choice for something actually environmentally friendly. Unfortunately we’re not getting efficient hybrids at all, we never have, and it’s like the industry just skipped right over the best possible solution for everyone.
    And I think we all know why.

    Thank you for seeing the bigger picture. This is a fantastic addition to the lineup to ensure Dodge stays competitive in the market and can actually gain ground. European brands like BMW have had to stray away from their "heritage" to remain relevant as well, the X3/4/5/6/7 have zilch to do with BMW heritage but selling enough of those means they can still stick around and make cars that truly embody the BMW experience like the M2 competition. It's business.

    I've never considered a Dodge but since this one is so close to the Alfa Romeo Tonale, and has the majority of the shape and interior, it might be on my list. It looks good and I can care less about muscle. It's faster than the car that I have now (more hp and torque) and all I need it is for driving to work and back home so mpg is more important to me

    • @ExaltedDuck
      @ExaltedDuck 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Likewise. The Dart looked really interesting until people started talking about plastic intake manifolds warping. They're not even properly old yet and in driving 500 miles a week the last few years, I don't see more than 1 or 2 a year on the road

    • @rlsedition
      @rlsedition ปีที่แล้ว

      Alfa's return to the US market has been quite successful given how little support the Giulia and Stelvio have been given by FCA and now Stellantis - few dealers and zero advertising. Their product reliability has been decent as well, on par with other sport entries at similar prices. Anyone who understands the car industry knows it takes more than a good car to generate good sales numbers in the competitive US market; the other marketing elements must be in place as well.

    On a positive note. I think the Hornet has it's place in a very crowded compact SUV field including Stellantis's own company Fiat. I actually find it an attractive little SUV built and shipped for the Alfa Romeo plant in Italy. With the inside information you mentioned. Please ask Tim Kuniskis why or Better yet how Dodge obtained 14,000 orders before ordering was available and pricing had not been established. From contacting Dodge dealers in my area. I was told they couldn't take my order but would likely have GT pricing in a couple days, which they did. Actually one dealer called me back yesterday wanting to take my order. It's an import from Alfa's Italian Fiat plant with the base 4 cylinder Awd GT having a price tag of $29,995 + $1595 shipping. A Total of $31,590 excluding options. Ordering the next model, the turbo 4 cylinder GT Plus will increase the price to $34,995 plus 1595 shipping or a price tag of $36,960 before options. Turnaround time isn't currently known or is the Hornet's Mpg. The GLH model will possibly be an EV and isn't currently available for sale, but guessing. It will fall in the Mid $40,000 range + shipping when the vehicle and pricing is finalized. Options can easily add over $5000 to the price. The RT PHEV and GLH shown are prototypes. RacerX. I am not wanting to offend you, But Your coming across as a Dodge sales person. If Dodge needs saving. The Hornet will not be the vehicle to do that. Stellantis has put Dodge in a corner. They should have introduced a finished consumer ready EV car instead of a prototype. Horsepower options, range, warranty coverage and options available to the customer. Stellantis knew the change was coming, yet didn't do anything about it. Stellantis is targeting Europe planning on 100% EVs by 2030. They don't seem to have a completed plan for the US. It would not surprise me if Dodge was sold off to another auto manufacturing company. Possibly Tesla to increase their manufacturing facilities.
    As stated in the final paragraph found in an Automotive magazine article regarding Dodge.
    It's not clear whether and how successfully Dodge can convert its enthusiast base to "eMuscle." But the brand will need to do so to survives

Look at the Caravan, Caliber, Journey, Avenger, etc. Don't get me wrong, I love the muscle cars. I have a Hellcat myself, but the brand needs some cars for the masses. It's just good business to diversify. Am I super bummed out about the V8's leaving? You bet your a** I am but I get it. Who knows, maybe the next car is a hybrid Cuda with some outrageous horsepower. I had a Neon for 11 1/2yrs and kept it longer because of the caliber grossness. Waiting to see the first year or 2 and hopefully transition to the hornet vs another company. Dodge needs to remember daily drivers and entry level needs/wants vs all muscle all the time.

    I don't know how the Hornet, based on the Alfa Romeo Platform will do. I'm affraid about reliability concerns. This segment is already full house and the competition is very competent. Dodge needed a product in that segment, and hopefully they will find a way to succeed with the new Hornet... Well now they have to, they have no choice to succeed, as they putted a lot of pressure on themself by introduce it using the big door in front of all car enthousiasts. Either a big win, or a big fail, I think it won't be in between, that's the real danger.

I can't tell them apart already since they all seem mundane. It's not even the hp numbers or torque that matter to me in that segment...it's just already been done cookie cutter style by every auto manufacturer out there. Dodge is showing up late to a make it or break it poker game. I hope it works out for them. As for me, RacerX and a bunch of others indirectly told us almost a year ago to get a Challenger while we can...and I, for one, took his advice.

    My biggest problem with speed week is that they are replacing the charger and challenger with something that looks like it is the length of a four door, without the back 2 doors, and has a hatch back. When I replace my challenger I want it to be a 2 door car with a trunk. How can you do away with 2 cars that you sell a bunch of, and not come out with another car? The banshee is not a 2 door car, it is a 2 door hatch back. It looks like a 4 door car that they forgot to add the 3rd and 4th doors.

Ive been seeing the digital and OverTheAir software control trends getting more sketch by the likes of Tesla, BMW, etc and perhaps a better cope would be to think it best vehicles like the challenger miss out on what the coming years bring about in production vehicles across the board. Alfa Romeo is not "Fix It Again Tony" so a step up at the Italian buffet! I read the European reviews on the car and while not perfect were pretty good. All I read or watched put it ahead of the BMW in its class. So the head of Dodge wasn't lying about it being a class leader in performance, Dodge is the Performance division not just the Musclecar division. It's lineup has been pretty thin and needs to grow to cover more aspects of what performance means and different levels of it. I honestly think Dodge has more tricks up its sleeve and they will be being seen shortly. My biggest gripe with the Hornet is that it looks too much like an Alfa Romeo. On both the interior and exterior you can easily see that it’s a simple rebadge of the Tonale. Hopefully that will be fixed in the inevitable refresh that the car will get.
    As for the car as a whole, I don’t hate it. I understand it’s purpose: a mass-market economical consumer car. Dodge needs a car that can sell hundreds of thousands of units every year, and the Hornet is the type of car to do that.

Dodge will probably knock it out of the park for the masses in that segment. My wife wants a Hornet GT and if she does get it I will tell her to spend that extra three grand for that package. I do not really see a Hornet GT keeping up with a scatpack in a straight line but maybe on curves. It will not keep up with a Mustang or Camaro or any other vehicle in that category though imo.
