  • I show you a side-by-side comparison between the 2023 Dodge Charger R/T and the 2024 Dodge Hornet R/T and give you my thoughts on which is the better car to drive. I also compare things like price, performance, ergonomics, aesthetics, technology, and much more. If you like the Hemi powered Charger, the 2023 model year is your last chance to get one. Which car would you take?

    Loved my 20 R/T. I miss it. I haven’t seen a Hornet on the road. My biggest complaint about Dodge is, Why didn’t you update the Hemi? Ford keep making advancements on the Coyote. To say they couldn’t have made a more efficient Hemi is total B.S.

    • @ducktails1695
      @ducktails1695 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +13

      Ford is in a much better position than Dodge was with CAFE. Ford has other much more fuel efficient vehicles to offset the V8 in the Mustang. Dodge has....well no fuel efficient vehicles so they were spending a shitton of money on CAFE credits every single year...like tens, if not hundreds of millions of dollars in CAFE credits every single year. Dodge making a more fuel efficient HEMI engine just doesn't make any sense when ICE engines are going away long term. Dodge is also very behind on next gen engines so it made more sense to put efforts into the future, not just something you'll only have around a couple more years.

      @@ducktails1695This is true. Racer X had a video explaining the credits thing and well, Dodge had to buy them from Tesla to keep making the HEMI. That's not going to fly anymore, though. Stellantis doesn't want to pay for those credits anymore. This is why the Hurricane I6 exists. The jury is still out on the future of the engine, though. Will it win the hearts of V8 lovers and Dodge fans? That remains to be seen.

The waitress said sorry we only have mushroom pizza for sale. So I walked out since they didn't have the pepperoni pizza I wanted. So they're trying to sell me what they thought I wanted but not actually what I really wanted. This is probably a bad analogy but I agree with what you said. They're building cars they think people want as opposed to what people actually do want. Major change from a i. C. E. To a plug-in. I don't want to plug in a car for 2 and a half hours everyday. you can go a week or so without stopping at a gas station. It's a pain in the neck just to charge my cell phone everyday. People complaining about the Hornet's existence have very short memories. Not very long ago Dodge was the company that made the Journey, Avenger, Caliber, Nitro, and Grand Caravan. It needed those cars to sell in volume (along with the severed Ram line) to justify things like the Viper and Hellcats. Now I fear for Dodge's future - not because of the Hornet, but because it doesn't have MORE mainstream volume sellers. We'll see if being an E-Muscle company works out for them, but I fear the nameplate is on thin ice.

    I appreciate you testing the Hornet but I don't think Dodge will meet their expectations with it. You know most people that buy this type of SUV want a RAV4 or CRV. I mean maybe Dodge can make a small profit like the Dodge Journey.

    Kind of unrelated but it's sad that the 5.7 never touched over 400 hp from the factory. To this day RTs still can get bullied by NA V6 family sedans. Hell, V6 Camaros nearly make the same power as the 5.7. Dodge should have upgraded it a long time ago, at the very least as a last call model.

    R/T Hornet actually isn’t a bad looking car inside and out. It seems like it’s decent around the streets.I think it could’ve been pretty AWESOME if it was engineered to be electrically assisted constantly while in sport mode or something. The power shot feature seems like a nice little party trick for the kids and then the funs over in 2 secs and needs to recharge lol. Very interested to see what the GLH will be like

    Thank you for this comparison. It looks like I am going to commute to work further than I have in the last 10 years. I have a 2012 Charger R/T Max. Love the car, it is comfortable stereo is great blaa blaa. Cars range is around 300 plus or minus 10 mile. Seats 5 fairly well. It has been my work horse car. However unlike Florida where you are X I have to deal with occasional snow and ice. I was considering getting a 4 wheel drive pick up (ram of course) or possible the Hornet in some flavor. Thoughts?

So many Chargers squealing away while I waved bye-bye unless there was enough road between the lights for them to start gaining it back 😂. That was a fun daily.

      Risky time for the strike for Dodge and Chrysler brands. Not enough product offerings since RAM was spun off. Keep in mind Stellantis originally didn't want Dodge and Chrysler brands, they only wanted Jeep, but had to take them all as package deal, so it wouldn't take much for them to pull the plug on either.

    Haven't even watched the video yet, and I'll take the Charger RT all day over the hornet. In fact, the only Charger I wouldn't take over the hornet is the models that had the 2.7 V6. We rented an '07 Charger with the 2.7, I think riding lawn mowers accelerate faster....lol. We had a '10 Challenger with the 3.5, put 200,000 miles on it with 0 issues. The only complaint was that the car was a bit heavy for only 250 h.p., but still a great car.
