  • Greetings All,
    Another warm Indian summer day in Georgia as we begin the process of working to rejuvenate a Daisy Model 102 all the way from 1974. Should be an interesting build as we now know that gun is running and in pretty good nick.
    Thanks for watching!

    Very thankful to find this channel. I just bought (haven't received yet) a 102 like I had 55 years ago. My plan is to restore it and give to one of my grandchildren.

    Very nice job. I had a 102 back in the 70s when I was a kid it shot great. Love that BB loader got to find me one of those puppies LOL.

    Sir, you are a legend. I knew nothing about Daisy BB guns 2 days ago until I panicked trying to get my son’s 8th birthday gift fit for purpose. With your videos and all the knowledge you share I was able to make some homemade tools, take the gun apart, repair it, paint it, reassemble, and successfully test fire it just now. My kid will be over the moon after school when he finds his own restored Daisy Model 102 that because of you I was able to fix for his big day. Many thanks from me and Levi in Harris County, GA.

      James, Wonderful! A legacy Daisy modded for a young sons birthday is as good as it gets. I trust you'll both have a blast knocking over cans and pine cones to celebrate!

    I used the support wire from a political yard sign to compress my spring. It was H shaped, and I bent the 2 short middle wires so the long wires were 5/8" apart. The bent wires served as a handle.

    I have two of these and looking forward to upgrading them both ,the one I received today is just shooting at 212 fps and sometimes it’s throwing out two BB’s at a time and when front cap is screwed down the hole cover for BB’s isn’t settled fully,thinking the abutment seal is lost it’s threads.

    • @RestOModDaisy
      @RestOModDaisy  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hmm, The shooting two BB's at once points to an issue witht the shot tubeubes BB retention spring. I'd check that by seeing if two BB's can roll into the chamber. If so, the retention spring might need to be reset or replaced. As far as the bottle cap shot tube not completely occuding the loading port that's not uncommon. As long as the BB's can't fall out during use you'll be OK. I've never seen an abutment washer that has lost it's threads but have seen a few missing one of the locking tabs.

    FWIW, sometimes the abutment seal will actually be stuck to the piston, so when the gun is cocked, you can see the seal drop away from the abutment when you look into the empty barrel shroud like you did when you showed the air tube. That is especially common with the wide frame guns. Don't know why that is...

    the little Buck I'd just picked up had 5-6 over-sized BB's jammed in the barrel.
    drove them out with a steel rod then reassembled, its doing about 245 fps.
    edit: that 1974 is doing pretty good at 225 with the older rolled shot tube.

    Awesome info vid sir. How can I oil/lube up a very similar model 102 that has not been shot for quite a while. It was my aunt's rifle and I just recently got it from my mom as a gift. Need less to say I do not have all the proper tools to take the rifle apart as you can and as you know there is not oil hole(s) on this model BB gun. Thx for sharing your knowledge and keep up the good work! (do you have a video on the proper oil/lube of the rifle?)

    • @RestOModDaisy
      @RestOModDaisy  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I'm sure there's a vid or three in my 358 Daisy videos, i'm not sure where they are. Pretty simple, on the pre oil hole guns you've got two choices for oiling the leather seals. first option is stand the little puppy on it's butt stock and drip several drops down the bore, second option is to do the same thing but remove the shot tube before delicately dropping several drops down the bore and watching it gather on the airtube/abutment washer, third is to do options one and two, and then invert the gun on it's muzzle and dribble some oil down into the compression chamber by opening the lever. Leather seal guns will run forever if they are properly oiled, Oh use 30weight non detergent motor oil for this or in a pinch, you can use used 30 weight motor oil.

    Thanks for another great video. I searched cobalt327 but it says there is no one by that name on eBay. Also how do I get a hold of you? I just got two daisy and I would love for you to restomod them to shoot faster one of them came all loose when they sent it. I have not tried to open them up. Please let me know if that is possible so that I can send them to you. Thank you

    When I tried to take the abutment washer out, all went well until I knocked the metal washer out that the shot tube screws into. Is there a way to put that metal washer back in? I tried and I think I ruined my old bb gun. Is this something I can send in to be repaired? Thanks so much.

    Hi Shane, do you know about the caldwell app that works in conjunction with the caldwell chronograph?

  • @waynebarbour7890
    @waynebarbour7890 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Hi Shane. Quick question. I ordered a new plunger spring and head for my Model 99. The plunger set has a felt lube washer, a plastic compression washer, and another plastic washer similar in size to the compression washer. Are these all required to engage with the metal fixed abutment washer? Or do I have too many parts?

    • @RestOModDaisy
      @RestOModDaisy  ปีที่แล้ว

      That's the standard parts layout. If the original abutment washer is still in the gun, remove it and install the replacement part that came with your kit. Make sure that the side with the small ring is facing the compression cup and it's easier to install the abutment seal on the plunger assembly when you put the new package in.

      @@RestOModDaisy Shane, that was the fastest response I've ever received from an online question. You get 4 gold stars, 5 if you're using the metric scale,😃.
      A thought, since you usually need to look down a barrel or inside guns, how about using a digital inspection endoscope. I bought one a few years back and used it to look inside my model 99 to see what's in there. My curiosity was satisfied. It's one of those devices that may be used once or twice but the results are rewarding. Thanks again for your quick reply.

      @@waynebarbour7890 I've got two of those puppies but have yet to figure out to transfer the images over to one of my videos. I'll most likely need to start editing these things to get that to happen. They are also handy for cyclinder bore inspections and othe tight spaces.

      @@RestOModDaisy My endoscope came with a 2 x 4 display screen. For your TH-cam presentation where you show the views, just show the display screen results. Oh, one other question. How do you drill out the air tube to 17/64? Are there bits long enough for that?

    • @RestOModDaisy
      @RestOModDaisy  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@waynebarbour7890 I use the Bosch BL2634 bits. They are about 6" long and cut very well, be sure to back the bit out every1/2 inch or so to clean off the cuttings or they will bind and break. Here's a vid:

    Hello Mr. Shane! Good video, I suppose the abutment washer getting itself misplaced on client guns is pretty regular huh? Seems like they never want to stay in. Anyway, had a quick question regarding what metal is used in the body of a 1980s dated (guesstimated based on the gun’s features) 1938b. Is it steel? I’ve been toying with the idea of stripping off the paint and bluing it myself.

    • @jimmybruce2584
      @jimmybruce2584 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Blade, Not really, most of the projects I work on require some effort to get the abutment washer dismounted. This one, not so much. Daisy BB guns of the era mentioned are all folded sheet steel and readily strippable for paint, fireblue , chemical bluing or any other modern method of coating. I have seen an example of a metallic powder coating on a pink Red Ryder that was really impressive but haven't experimented with that as of yet.

    • @bladeklinge2224
      @bladeklinge2224 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ah I see, I only said that because I’ve seen a lot of Mr. Shane’s videos where the issue is the abutment washer riding the air tube, but I suppose there’s a lot more that goes behind the scenes huh? Anyway, thanks a lot Sir!

    I Am Thinking I'd Like About +_ 400 fps. And Still be Able To Cock it.
