      That's a first. We'll do a penetration test on soft and hard wood. I'm thinking some penetation on pine, mabye a dimple on Maple and Ricochet-o-rama on walnut. Thanks for the idea!

      I spent a lot of time digging around in the Grainger catalog for thin wall stainless tubes the same O/D as the current Daisy factory product and was not able to find anything I considered affordable. I know that Jonathan over at BlackBarrelCustoms has done a lot of work on fabbing airtubes. Check out this video
      th-cam.com/video/jW78634rocw/w-d-xo.html
      At this point the easiest way I know of fabbing airtubes is to use the factory product and drill it.

    Does the air tube also function as the BB drop down control? If during the plunger stroke the air tube does not fully retract from the load port end, it would seem that cross drilling the air tube would also increase flow down the barrel? Yes, cross drilling all those holes would be a pain but maybe it could be done with a laser.

    • @RestOModDaisy
      @RestOModDaisy  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The air tube will block the loading port when fired so it does control when the BB can actually seat in the breech. Cross drilling the airtube inlet port would increase airflow during the compression cycle but I think it might weaken the airtube to the point of early failure. I don't know of any one experimenting with that aspect yet.

    • @nashvilleoutlaw
      @nashvilleoutlaw ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@RestOModDaisy I've wondered about the cross drilling myself on the air inlet side of the tube. Maybe with a tiny bit drilling a single hole. Then move down the tube 1/8in at a time and turn the tube 1/4 turn each time. I'm thinking by staggering holes it would keep airflow from fighting itself while minimizing weak points. Maybe angle drill them to create a swirling effect to speed up the air like water down a drain.

    Any idea where I can get the air tubes from as I am from the UK as no one will ship from the US to the UK?

  • @Restorology
    @Restorology 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hi. Thanks for sharing. Do you happen to know the air tube length and OD for an original 107 Buck Jones Special? I am in the process of repairing one and the shot tube is completely missing. I have to fabricate one and I believe it is longer than most. Thanks!

    • @RestOModDaisy
      @RestOModDaisy  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That depends, is it a Plymouth MI marked gun? The only example I have on hand is a Rodger AR Model 107, not exactly the same as the Buck Jones made in the 1933 and 1942. I do recall a thread over at the Daisy Talk forum on the subject of shot tubes for the older guns. It's hard to search but those guys know their Daisy's.

    • @Restorology
      @Restorology 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@RestOModDaisy Thanks for the reply. Yes it is a Plymouth MI manufactured piece and I have been to Daisy Talk, searched through at least 100 pages, but didn't find anything like this. I guess I should sign up and ask the question myself! I may try to determine length by the wear on the trombone slide piece. I assume that the wear on the slide will approximately correlate to the length that the plunger travels back. Thanks again!

      John, Sorry about the delay in responding. My channel is getting a bit cumbersome and I don't always catch the notification thingy. There are two seals associated with the air tube, the abutment seal on pre-1978 Daisy's and the compression seal (or cup) on all of them. Which one are you having problems with?

      I normally get them from Cobalt 327 over on the 'Bay although I can make them as well but just don't have the production time at the moment. You also might want to look into one of Black Barrel Customs Blue Hare airtubes if you're looking to upgrade.
