Ammo prices are about to be a thing of the past for 5.7. AAC has started making ammo that is listed on PSA’s website. While out of stock it was listing at .50 cents a round. At $25 for 50rds that puts it right around the price of other main stream practice ammo. I have no experience with The M&P 57, but I do have experience with the PSA Rock, FN FiveseveN and Ruger 57 and with TISAS jumping into the 5.7 pistol market this calibers future is looking pretty bright.
I hope you’re right, but I’ve always understood the bottleneck is the coated casing, which federal buys from FN. I can only assume that fiocchi, AAC and the others beginning to market their own loads are doing. If that’s true, FN can keep the price up. If there’s another manufacturer making coated brass, that would definitely be the tipping point
I do not know about the Fiocchi ammo, but AAC is not using FN brass. The same goes with 5.7 brass from vangaurd outfitters.
@@youtubewatcher4792 appears AAC is using some kind of oily lubricant on their cases instead of a cured lacquer. Not sure how I feel about that just yet. Could really make a mess inside a P90 magazine
I am not sure what AAC is using, but I suspect it is the same wetmoly Vanguard uses. 5.7 requires a moly coated case to operate properly. FN cases are drymoly coated which a different process but is important to know you plan on reloading this round since it comes off easily during the brass cleaning process with coarse media.
@@shooteveryday1841 aac makes their own brass ...before them every mainstream maker had to source their brass off fn
Love it. Loaded and unloaded each mag 4 times or so by hand before taking it to the range. No issues at all during my first trip. Dead reliable, dead accurate, .22 recoil, best m&p trigger by far. Awesome gun, won't carry it without putting another couple hundred through it, but seems to be a solid replacement for my EDC.
Nearing 2k rds absolutely love it ..had ruger rock n fn mkll...no longer have those after I reached the 900rd mark for me it's been dead reliable n no hangups in mag nor gun ...some pansies don't like the grip texture ( must work cubicle jobs ) or insist using cheap junk ae ammo which had jammed all 3 of my previous 57s n qhy I nvr rec ae in 5.7 t9 anyone
@@harrycallahan5112What ammo are you using. I got the SS198LF.
These are fantastic pistols. The mag is a PITA for a few loadings then the mags break-in, then like others at about 500 rounds it smooths out a lot. I find that the thinner frame really makes it more comfortable than other double-stack competitors.
I bought one about a month ago and I love it, this gun has almost no recoil and feels great to shoot. I like it more than my ruger 57
Love mine! Over 1k rounds no issues and so accurate. I think people are not understanding the break in period of these. Mine really started shooting nice after 500 rounds.
You should post 🔥
Question.. was it hard to insert a full mag when you first got it? Wondering if that get better over time.
@@MightyMarceGG mine definitely is hard asf. Even damages the round a little and is nearly impossible to rack one.but if you keep the slide locked and insert the mag it goes in easy and I’ve never had a problem(until you take the mag back out with rounds in it then the bullets are loose and want to fall out) seems like a lot of people are having that problem
@@laidedemdown7954also having the same issue. Its due to the spring tension in the mag. You will notice it’s much easier, the less ammo in the mag. I think it’s just a design flaw and there’s no real way to fix it without causing feeding issues from the mag.
@@DeMoNzH0BO you would think the spring tension would make the bullets be tighter but like I said if you shoot a few and then release the mag there will probably be 4-5 rounds that you can just shake out of the mag once it gets to about 12 rounds I’ve had no problems.
Try Muddy River Tactical. They have an IWB holster specific for the Smith 5.7.
I ordered both inside and outside. Nice holsters.
I was carrying the S&W 5.7 IWB by Urban Carry and it is a very fantastic everyday carry. The only issue I have for summer carry is the sweat rusting parts, especially the magazine release button.I kept it oiled.Added a holosun Green dot carry. The Green is better for older guys & gals with vision issues. The trigger is fantastic and also get the thumb safety. This is the one to get you will be impressed
Had weird slide lock back 10-15% of the time with both FN and Federal ammo 200 rounds total. Occurred on two range trips with both included magazines. Ammo was seated partially forward a few millimeters in the magazine with slide lock back. Sent it back to S&W and was told performing as expected and no changes needed. S&W recommend round “break in of 300 rounds minimum.”
So basically it's gonna take 325 dollars to break the gun in to end the slide locking back😊..M&P👍
This is exactly what I wanted for field use. That being said they should make one that isn't threaded in a Glock 19 size for every day carry.
I love my MP 57 hell of a gun good distance range and stopping power pretty happy with it😊
The barrel length is calibrated to fit within the window of effective powder burning from that cartridge. No compensating or porting needed. A shorter barrel wastes the potential of the round, along with excess flashiness.
Be happy with the smarter-than-you engineer’s contribution to gun design.
Remember the Boberg 9?
ii’m quite elated with such smart technology.
The Europeans would have charged twice as much.
Be thankful for S&W.
This is my favorite handgun I've ever had even though I originally thought it was a silly cartridge.
Love the fact it comes standard with threaded barrel. Much better than the FN or Ruger in that regard. Great gun. Really fun to shoot with low recoil and Spectre silencer. Very reliable. Perhaps S&W will offer an optional non-threaded extra barrel for those so interested.
Threads are part of a shroud, not the barrel.
Love my PSA rock 5.7 it’s my ccw
May favorite color background yet.
there is a sale on 5.7 at Bass Pro shops right now. I don't know when it ends.
I used to carry the old Browning BDM which has similar specs to the M&P. It was very easy to carry, mainly because of how thin the grip was. I found it printed less than my Glock 19.
Review the PSA 5.7 Rock, you can get it with 10 mags and a range bag for $600. PSA is also coming out with a compact version.
The grip is a little long but it’s a thin firearm. I picked one up a couple weeks ago and got an IWB holster for it. It carries really well.
This caliber has a lot of potential. Hopefully, more compact options become available soon.
the caliber has alot of potential BECAUSE of the long barrel. With a compact option, you lose all the advantages of the cartridge.
With a shorter barrel you're nullifying it's use ..plus you'll get keyholing .. its a long round..it needs a longer barrel...if a compact or subcompact woulda made sense FN would done it already
@Phillip Smith it would be interesting if someone wilcated a straight walled version of the 5.7. I think it would be a better option for pistols being that the cartridge operated at 50k psi and is thin enough to use in dual feed mags. Maybe a 7mm projectile can fit
Just bought it today! Shot the AR-10 first, then G19, then the M&P 5.7
It's BUTTER ON ROUND ONE. It's probably the nicest feel for a pistol I've ever shot.
Tag me here in a couple of months for an update. It could be the hype of a purchase, but I don't think it is.
Can of your channel LL. Glad to see you here.
I love my M&p 5.7. I’ve got 200 rounds through it so far with not hiccups.
@@rickylee2477 I'm all over 5.7 right now. Building a P90, just finished a 12" ULT AR57 and have a cmmg 5.7 and a FiveseveN to build out next. I alone am the cause of the 5.7 ammo shortage.
@@LackLusterMedia what’s pick as favorite self defense ammo in 5.7?
I personally feel that S&W is planning to introduce a carry version that is shorter (both the slide and a little in the frame) and without a protruding, threaded barrel- but with the same rotating system. I expect that it will accept the same magazines. I do hope S&W will also come out with a carbine which uses the same magazines, possibly based on their new side-folding 9mm carbine.
I believe this gun would carry nicely in a shoulder rig like a Galco Jackass which places the gun at a slight angle since its designed for full length frame pistols.
You may have to go through their custom shop to get a good fit because they manufacture that rig for the 1911 but I am sure they can adapt it to this.
Has a owb kydex holster for my s/w 5.7
Very comfortable
What are you guys using for holsters? I haven't seen anything worth while so far.
Did you find anything yet for conceal carry?
@@yellowjacket8870 found a sloppy urban carry holster that works but not specific to the pistol
@@philipcourtland7390 I’m all ears
May I suggest a couple of options? There is a company that makes moldable/remodelable leather/kydex hybrid holsters for both iwb and owb carry. They can be molded to various pistols and remolded to fit another. Search on Google and you'll find them. The second option would be to order kydex sheets and associated hardware and make your own holster. I started making my own and haven't looked back. If you're a fairly handy person, the process is not as intimidating as it may sound. Hell, I made my last few holsters using 2 memory foam floor mats and 2 cuts of 2x12 boards to fashion a press. People actually don't believe I made them myself. The best part of making your own is that you can make them to fit your body specifically (ride height, cant, etc.). I like odd less popular firearms and in many instances, making my own holster is the only viable option. Good luck and I hope you find a solution that works for you.
Neptune Concealment or Muddy River Tactical
The PSA Rock 5.7 would be a great choice to own and carry at a cheap price point.
Actually needs to be that big for a reason- have to take advantage of that awesome 5.7 cartridge by having that longer barrel to get the most fps out of it. If this was in a 4 inch barrel this would not be nearly as good as a ruger or fn 5.7
I love mine, just got it and did some shooting and it works great
which m&p2.0 holster with the long barrel did you get to fit it???
I really like mine. However, I am waiting for it to come back from S&W. The firing pin broke after about 300 rounds. Hope that was just a fluke.
Can you dry fire an internal hammer pistol without damage?
Great vid
I'm surprised S&W isn't considering a .30 Super Carry on the same platform as the M&P 5.7. The cases of the .30 Super Carry and 5.7X28 are very close in diameter. Be that as it may, this is a gun I've been looking at, though more so for home/auto/woods-walking use. For carry, maybe a compact version could be made, but that action construction S&W uses may not be conducive to a shorter barrel length.
Do you have any brass markings on the gun's slide, to the left of the ejection port? Just took my M&P 5.7 to the range and it seems like the brass casings are bouncing off of the slide.
yes.
PSA
has a good one as well
What is up with the see through of the pistol. You can see the guide rod and spring. Wouldn't sand and who know's what can obstruct the gun? Needs to be tighter in this area.
This is better as a home defense weapon. With a suppressor and light, it is really good for home defense.
Hmmmm
Adopted by China and Pakistan Armies in similar caliber
.
I sprayed a shot off dry lube in my mags and the have been 100 % reliable.
That threaded portion could always be machined off the barrel and then the barrel recrowned to shorten it up
Barrel itself is not threaded; the shroud is.
@@samsham7200 sorry, I meant shorten both the shroud and barrel.
Any luck finding a carry holsters?
Slimfit holsters
Where can i find a holster for this?
Slimfit holsters.
Compared to a 1911 the M&P is nearly identical, except it’s a bit lighter
so ss195LF or ss197sr better
I carried a glock 30 for 5 years. This thing feels like a lcp compared to that 🎉
Do anybody have a problem when loading the mag. Its like you have to smack the mag just for it to seat flush and allow the round to chamber
dont hav gun, but saw another reviewer say the same thing about it. With it bein sleeker, lighter than other 5.7s theres gotta be a drawback somewhere. not to mention cheaper. Holds a ton so am not surprised. metal mag preferred over plastic
@@zakikhan814 i think i figured it out. The bullets tend to lay flat at the bottom of the mag when its at full capacity instead of slightly tilted upward. And the length of the inside of the mag is only a hair bigger than the bullet itself. Hopefull s&w come out with better mags, cause thats the only con about the gun itself
Mine is the biggest piece of crap gun I have ever bought. Jambomatic. Back to smith once replaced Bartel. Still sucks after 750 rounds of fn blue tip ammo. My mrd is flawless.
Mine is a piece of shit as well. So disappointed 😡
I got big ass cornbread CORN beef ameatie hands and just but a Smith 5.7 sent it to ed Brown yesterday and i can't wait to get it back inbox it and screw on my dead air Can on it i can't wait to out that dead air Can on it and see how ed Brown really turns me it in to a master piece
Gun people are some of the trendiest folks around, and the 5 7 and 10mm are the neon.glasses of the day. I'll hold off a while on 'em.
LOL sure, the 5.7 has been around a long time.
It has finally been made a standard for NATO.
Just collect everything
I had one, but sold it. I just didnt like the way it looked after getting my hands on it. Looks like a tuna of something lol 🐟 i like it better than the Ruger 57 though. I was going to use the m&p5.7 as a dad bag back up pistol, but ill stick with the glock 20 i think 🤔
This was pitiful Haha 😂 I own a small company in Kentucky, I’m building an appendix rig with and without a WML. I’m 6 foot, 140-150 pounds. You literally just did a tabletop without showing ANYTHING Lol 😂
😂
But another barrel without it.
The best handgun shoot 5.7 on the market...also the most ugly one out there. M&p should update their design. Even budget rock 5.7 look better than this at low low price.
The Rock is thick and clunky. I'll take slim and ergonomic over looks.
@@jdmb03 it’s chunky because it’s double stack with more capacity plus, the grip fit well with most people’s hand. infact, rock have the best ergonomic grip in all 5.7 on the market right now.
A little late on the safety check
for the price, psa is better, got mine to 30 round mags
Your topic was this is how you carry. It is misleading. You never got to topic?
Don’t waste your time watching this video. Absolute waste of time! He doesn’t even have the exact proper holster for the gun or even a demonstration. He continued to repeat same information multiple times.
Dont care for the threaded barrel.
Is this how to carry it or about the pistol? You talk about everything else except the title of the video 😡
So how do u carry it😅😅😅😅
Mags are junk. need to fix the tolerances on the mags to prevent jamming does not hold 22 without jamming more like 16. Many say break in Helps but I haven't seen it. Get your shit together Smith.
Never had any problems with mine......🤷♂️
Lube the inside of your mags. Dry lube is my personal favorite. But fun oil would also work.
Its cheap now !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I saw one website it was 480 I wonder if I can find em like that at stores near me
PSA Rock beats S&W by a year, Same size as G17, uses Glock pattern sights and fits & RETAINS in a LOT of Glock holsters, has cleaner lines and frame is less cluttered than FN and Ruger, less to snag on stuff, with higher capacity and no thumb safety while still safer than the Ruger, and to top it all off has the best striker trigger on the PLANET - but nobody wants to carry it. Now because somebody put the M&P logo on a 5.7 it's all of a sudden good to carry.....
Cause Psa’s fucking suck.
Maybe for the 1 in 5 that come off the line properly assembled and ready but so far I'm hearing nothing but tons of QA issues with the rock.
It's called the Rock for a reason, you will probably need to pretend it is one if you need to use it for defense.
PSA is trash
Why carry 5.7 though, that round is going to go through 3 people and a couple walls lol (exaggerated)
major magazine issues
i disagree....load 18-20 till broke in. zero issues
