I’ve had my original LCP well over 10 yrs, hundreds of FMJ & HP down range and never a single malfunction. It’s a great always-gun in a DeSantis pocket holster. I’ve managed to gather six extra mags over time, carry it w/the factory seven round mag & a Hogue rubber slip on grip sleeve.

I have one I bought when they first came out in 2008 and carried as a BUG until I retired in 2014 and daily ever since. Do yourself a favor and put a new stainless steel guide rod and 13lb recoil springs (inner and outer) from Galloway or MCARBO. I checked mine a few weeks ago and my guide rod was slightly bent. You can get original equipment replacement parts cheap ($5 each spring and $5 for the pot metal guide rod) but spend the extra $20 and get the good replacement guide rod and springs. (Edit: my bad. I see you already know about the Hogue grip.) Then spend $15 on a Hogue grip sleeve. The combination of these parts reduces the felt recoil by about half, I swear. I have arthritis and was thinking about getting a larger/heavier gun but even with arthritis my original LCP shoots real soft. I decided not to go with the LCP Max or the Bodyguard 2.0 due to the safeties and sharp sights. With the Ruger 7 round extended magazine you have a total of 8 shots which is enough but I'm gonna buy another since they dropped the price to $199.00 and put one in each pocket in lieu of a spare magazine. Stay safe and healthy.

I’ve owned one of these for primary carry living in the south since the 2013 model that enhanced the trigger pull and reset, never had a single issue with the weapon. Been a great shooter at the range, been reliable, and never had a part break. It’s a comforting pocket pistol for my lifestyle and I don’t fear the arguments about 380 v 9mm. It’s a quality product and glad they still make them.

Ruger lcp with a Varidan laser in a DeSantis Nemesis pocket holster loaded with Hornaday Critical Defense 90 grain FTX ammunition has been my reliable daily carry in my right front pants pocket for many years. I replaced the plastic guide rod with a stainless steel one to reduce the possibility of breakage. I also replaced the plastic takedown pin with a metal one, again to reduce the chance of braking. I painted the tops of the front and rear sights with Glow-On phosphorescent paint to enhance quick sight acquisition. I also put a small dot of bright red nail polish on the back of the hammer. When the slide is racked cocking the gun, the red dot is clearly visible, indicating that the gun is cocked. When the gun is not cocked, the hammer is in a downward position, and the red dot is not visible.

I recently purchased this model from Academy for $199, and I love it. I've put about 50 rounds through it so far without a single issue.
The quality is great for the price point, and unlike some, I appreciate the heavy trigger as a "safety" protocol for this gun. The gun fits comfortably in the pocket, and is an easy draw.
I would definitely recommend this for a traveler, or someone who is on the go, and likes the ease it gives you for concealment.

I use mine to pocket carry when i somewhere near home. I like it a lot except that shooting more than a few mags starts to tire my hand. Only othet complaint is the finish rusts easy. I dont the mind the trigger, i can pull it without any trouble even with the false reset. Basically it does its job and does it well which is why it still sells.

I still pocket carry my LCP gen 1. The Hogue hybrid grip sleeve made a big difference in the grip during recoil. I also added a Galloway 13lbs recoil spring and a stainless steel guide rod helped to reduce recoil. A dab of white paint on the front sight helps too. I use a Desantis pocket holster and Hornady XTP 90gr JHPs.

I have one of these and it's currently in my pocket. It's very light and using the supplied Ruger holster is very comfortable to the point I forget it's in my front pocket. Ammo....you've had better luck than me. I had to return my first LCP to Ruger twice. It just would not feed ammo....multiple kinds....it was very frustrating. They sent it back saying they tested it and it worked fine. I continued to test with it and had more issues and sent it back. This time, they replaced the entire gun. My new one runs 99% flawlessly thank goodness. I have found that the gun does not like "flat nose" 380 ammo. It has to be round nose and in my experience it has to be "hot" ammo for the gun to run it's best. My target preference is Speer and my carry is Norma 85gr Monolithic Hollow Points (MHP). These are still available online but are no longer being produced by Norma - they've come out with a new HP that I'm yet to try. Luckily for me, when Norma discontinued these, they went on sale everywhere and I purchased a lot of it very cheaply ($7 to $10 a box of 20). I just checked it it's still available online as of June 2024 in decent supply. So, great gun....practice with it as your range to get use to it being a bit snappy and find ammo that you are 99.9% sure will run when you need it to run to save your life.

Good review. I got an LCP many years ago as my first carry gun, and although I've moved through the LCP Max, eventually winding up with a Sig P365 as my main carry, the original LCP is what I grab when I am only wearing a t-shirt or just want it to be invisible. It easily fits in a small, innocent-looking belt pouch. I'm very comfortable with 6+1 Underwood Platinums.
One thing I'll say to those just getting into small guns - range practice is a must. It took me a while to become proficient with smaller guns. (I thought there was something wrong with my LCP Max until I realized it was me.) Unfortunately, guns like the LCPs are not very comfortable to shoot at the range. But bite the bullet (pun intended) and practice!

Good review, I bought an LCP as a BUG in 2008 when they first came out. I retired in 2014 and carried it as my primary CCW in summer and switch to a J-frame .357 in winter. I just bought a second LCP last week. The trigger is much improved, half the pull weight of the original. The sights are twice the height of the original but still snag free. They also seemed to have put a heavier recoil spring in the newer one which greatly reduced felt recoil. I put Hogue grips on both and put a Gallaway 13 pound recoil spring set and a stainless steel guide rod in my original gun and I carry both with Ruger extended 7 shot magazines and they are both great little shooters. I also paint the front sight with white and the red nail polish and the front sights are easier to pick up. The trigger still sucks on the original LCP but I shoot it just fine. BTW, I have XXL glove size hands and slide bite has never been an issue for me but YMMV. Funny, I think I paid $325 for the LCP in 2008 and only paid $199 for the new one. I like the LCP over the LCP II or the Max because I don't like safties on carry guns.

@@icecole8708Does it matter? It's got a stupidly heavy trigger on it for one and for 2 it's a self defense gun. The only reason you should take this gun to the range is a your practicing with it after you first get it to understand how the gun works or b every 4 to 6 months take it to the range and run maybe a mag or 2 through it just to make sure the magazines don't hang up. This style of spring-loaded magazine can eventually get weak after so long of carrying it at full capacity. That's why I like to take my magazine apart and stretch the spring out just to make sure the spring has enough spring in it.

I literally just bought one of these 2 days ago. I had an LCP 2, but the mags dropped under recoil even after multiple trips to Ruger and the mcarbo mag release spring upgrade…had the LCP Max, but too big to not print in my pocket. So I bought the 1st Gen 2 days ago. Shot 240 rounds through it yesterday. 5 light strikes in the first 50 rounds. Kept shooting and had no other faults. I did install the mcarbo trigger spring, trigger, and hammer spring. Also installed the 13 lb mcarbo recoil spring and mag release spring. Made all the difference in the trigger pull, and the mags don’t drop out under recoil. It also ran a box of underwood xtreme defender +p without failure and they were accurate. Good to go.

Turns out I did not do all my homework and when I presented it to her she all but flipped her lid. So I had two choices keep it for myself or return it to the place I purchased it from and lose money on it in restocking fees. I ended up keeping it for myself and for almost a year the LCP was the one gun I carried daily. My only issue with it was its capacity is under what I consider ideal. Even now with extra mags I feel that I’m not carrying enough ammo, but the LCP is one of my favorite CCW weapons and is still in regular rotation with my other carry weapons and it has been almost a decade of me having this little pistol.

in 2013 ruger updated a few things like the bad trigger and low sights.. I bought a lcp1 (gen2) this morning got rid of my max.. if there is a dash in the serial number it is a gen 1.. bad.. but if no dash its a gen 2.. they are still making the gen 2 and still selling stocks of the gen 1 (with the dash) I paid 199 for my gen 2 today at my local shop

LCP-only as a backup to a backup for me....380 hp does not expand-only underwood performs somewhat decently. 38 special is as small as I wanna go as a primary carry gun.

do you live in an active war zone in a 3rd world country? why would you need a back up let alone a backup to a back up.. I have lived in 30 states in America in my 50 years and only ever had to pull my gun once.. in my own warehouse at 3am.. someone was trying to break in.. I grabbed my 12 and racked it and the noise alone made them run

I think your dealer stole a magazine. I bought my LCP new in…..2009 I think it was. As soon as I could find one actually available after they came out. And still had to get it off Gunbroker. It’s a 371 s/n prefix, right after they fixed the recall on the original batch of 370’s. It came with 2 mags. One flush fit and one with the pinky extension like you have there. Mine did not come with that pocket holster. But I’ve had a DeSantis Nemesis for it since I got it. Mine did come with a zip up case with a belt loop that you could kinda open conceal carry…..

That's for the roll pin which retains the firing pin. There was a design change in 2022 to update the extractor, which also involved changing the position of that roll pin from the top of the slide, to the side location.
