    Paul mentions overpenetration of the speer, while this is an issue in some circumstances, it can be ideal in others... taken from Speer description - This 5.7x28mm round will dominate a threat thanks to its 40 grain jacketed hollow point projectile. As the world’s first true bonded core bullet, the Gold Dot’s electrochemically merged jacket and core resist splitting apart throughout terminal penetration. This round’s tough bullet even retains the vast majority of its weight after having smashed through auto glass, ensuring it can always inflict a deep wound cavity within its final target. and since people ten to carry in daily life, which means traveling by car alot! or say a great motorcycle gun for those road ragers.... i can se carrying a mag of 20+ of these speer rounds.

    • @geronimo5537
      @geronimo5537 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I like the 5.7 spears. But the FN LF rounds are better in my opinion for any cqb need. They pen, punch, and tumble making them ideal. The key to a good 5.7 round is reaching that 2k fps threshold. The round just performs near-ish to 5.56 levels at that pressure. There are other companies putting out custom 5.7 loads pushing 2.5k and those hit like a hammer to.
      I have leo training and have personally daily carried a 5.7 for over a decade. Great round that has finally gained some traction in the last few years. A half 5.56 caliber or pocket rifle as I call it.

    Working in law enforcement for the last 28 years I’ve seen the effects of various rounds of ammunition on about everything you would imagine. Now, I’ll freely admit that I know very little about the 5.7x28, but what I’ve heard about it I assumed it would have sufficient penetration. I’ve heard that, as a pistol cartridge, it has the ability to penetrate soft body armor. Last week I responded to a shots fired call where an individual armed with an FN57N shot into a home. The suspect shot 14 rounds through the front picture window from a range of about 15 feet. The picture window is a double pane thermal window, about 6’ wide and 5’ tall. The ammunition he used was FN USA 5.7x28 27gr lead free. As I investigated I was amazed that all of the projectiles were stopped by the 60” flatscreen TV that was in front of the window in the house. I know that there are a lot of solid parts in a TV that could stop some ammunition but I would have assumed, out of 14 rounds fired, at least one or two would’ve been able to penetrate; it didn’t even crack the LCD screen. Anyways, great video Paul, always look forward to what you put out.

    • @boostimalaka1
      @boostimalaka1 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      When fired from an FN Five Seven pistol, The FN 27 grain LF ammunition is very effective. It will penetrate through a bullet proof partition of plexiglass. We had the Bulletin posted in our squad room in 2003 for Officer Safety.

    • @MB-uq8mb
      @MB-uq8mb 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@boostimalaka1 that is what I had read also, but what I saw last week made me scratch my head. The double pane glass was thicker then regular window glass but not like bullet resistant glass and the TV was a typical 60” flat screen. 14 rounds fired and none went through the TV. If I hadn’t seen it I wouldn’t have believed it.

    • @boostimalaka1
      @boostimalaka1 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MB-uq8mb There is a TH-cam video showing the penetration of this type of plexiglass that clearly shows the 5.7x28 defeating this type of barrier. I do recall one of my colleagues showing me a box of Ammunition that was for Law Enforcement use only. That ammunition will defeat level 2A body armor which at the time was issued to patrol.
      I purchased a 5.7x28 FN Five Seven pistol several years ago. It definitely is a flat shooter with minimal recoil. Many service pistols in various calibers couldn’t penetrate a car door, the 27 grain LF zipped through the panel. The high velocity is key.

      His early tests on log cabins are excellent. Very very gold, but great. In fact that's how I found his channel, I keep seeing Cowboy movies where the rancher fights the baddies from his doorstep and anyone inside (e.g. the wimmens) the bullets fly through as if the wood was made of polystyrene. So I wondered if anyone had tested out just how much shielding planks and logs gave. Turns out for the oldey timey cabins they stop everything (available at the time) except the largest of elephant guns.

    I work in a large emergency department, I had a young man come in shot at 20 yards in the chest with a 5.7x28 40gr vmax. There was so much damage nothing could be done to save him. Absolutely devestating wound but no over penetration. He broke into the wrong house!!!

    I recently purchased a rugher 5.7x28 pistol and to go with it a ruger lc 5.7x28 carbine using the same mags as the pistol. Excellent video as usual. Been a toss up for me as to what to use in them either the fn 40 grain vmax or the gold dot. And as far as your meat target. It lends alot better realistic simulation as to the effects on a body vs ballistics gel I would say. So those opposed can go away whichever direction they like.

      @@brianmcreynolds2431 personally I carry the VMAX. The spear gold dot doesn't seem to perform very well as far as expansion. I'm not sure why because they make a very good round in pretty much every other caliber except for this one but this is also a different type of cartridge to which could be the issue but yeah that's why I stuck with the vmac

    There is one other significant advantage to the 5.7 over larger diameter rounds such as the .38 Special... long range trajectory. A lot less aim compensation to be accounted for with a projectile having a muzzle speed of @ +1600 fps than those below 1000. Perhaps a future presentation demonstrating how 'flat' shooting the 5.7 x 28 can be compared to a larger caliber round such as the 9x19 at ranges beyond 50 yards is on tap for later this year ?

    Well now I know where the last four boxes of 5.7x28 west of the Mississippi went.
    At least I know they went to a decent home where they were loved and cherished, if only fleetingly.
    I have an FN Five Seven, a P90 and just picked up my Ruger 57 on Friday.
    As a defensive round I have seen what this will do to a porcine analogue, I would not want to be on the receiving end of a 5.7x28 round.
    Thanks again Mr. Harrell
