After a winter in the hole my lawnmower wouldn't start. Followed these instructions perfectly and that lawnmower fired right up immediately. Appreciate you and this video!
If you have a wire brush used for welding with the long wires you can use a pair of needle nose pliers to remove a whole group of those wires and they work great for cleaning the jets also.
Purchased a used but new 22in recycler with this engine/carb combination. Replaced air filter, spark plug, drained and replaced gas, still running rough. I followed your instructions and found the jets were blocked. Cleaned jets, and now she runs like a sewing machine (as my Dad would say). Great video and step-by-step instructions.
Just finished doing this repair watching the video every step of the way. Fantastic tutorial.....the only thing that made me squimish was putting that flathead screw driver into the jet body area.....Thats all plastic and it takes some skill to not leave a nick in the plastic....I guess the rubber O ring helps make up for any mistakes to some degree......but folks should error towards messing up the white part vs marring up the black part which is the actual carb itself. The other area that was only a little tricky was removing the wire control arms but only because I was trying not to break anything....its my neighbors mower. Now if I were to do that same task tomorrow I could do it in on third the time.....I have the feel down and understand the easy process. BEST REPAIR VIDEO ON TH-cam.......THANK YOU!!!!!!
Thank you so much for this video! It's extremely well done, thorough, and easy to follow. I was scared to clean out the carb on my mower before I saw your video. But I watched it [twice], took notes, compiled a list of required tools, and completed the procedure successfully! It fixed my mower problems! Thank you for your time and efforts in putting this together; you saved me money and taught me some things. I'm very grateful!
Nice video. Can you please give me the model number of that craftsman lawn mower. I bought a used one same with yours but the model number is missing, i need to change the self propelled cable and the other cable too. Thanks
THANKS - good clear instructions. I tore my carb apart and cleaned it because my mower all of a sudden started to run at about half speed. first I checked and cleaned (but did not change) the spark plug - no help - then followed your vid to clean the carb - still runs at half speed. I'm using new gas. one item - i was gonna get a new plug but when i lower the handle raising the front of the mower - it slows and will stall. not a spark plug symptom. any thoughts?
Hi friend. My lawn mower is the same as yours. Engine runs great on flat surfaces, but if i incline the lawn mower up a bit while mowing the imperfect lawn surface with full gas tank , the engine starts sputtering as if it wanted to turn off. Any idea on the cause? Example: pushing the handlebar down tilts up the lawnmower engine up and starts sputtering.
Great vid man!!!!! Anybody can follow that instruction. Not sure if you read these or not but my plastic engine cover top is stuck and I cant get it to release from the front plastic tab after removing the two torx screws........I am about to force it but before I do.....any tips? Thanks
An elderly relative has one of these which was running well last year. He lost the air cleaner but kept running it and so the carb got totally slammed with swill. I got it cleaned out and it will now start. The problem is that it is completely over-revving ... it's running at much higher speed than it should and it won't settle down to a normal speed even after letting it run 10 minutes or so. Any tips on what should be checked?
go to the 6:11 mark of the video. Behind where the gas tank was removed from is a spring and a metal tab which is bolted to the base of the engine. If you bend that tab it will put more or less tension on the spring..thus increasing or decreasing the RPM. let me know how that goes.
Pretty sure my carb jets are clogged with something. Here's the scenario... One day she started reving up and down, dying... it would restart, do the same thing, eventually it would run. I squeezed that hose going from the gas tank to the carb and the problem went away. This is when I should've stopped using the mower. A week later I snagged something with the mower that caused it to kill. Restarting it, it runs fine but at a low RPM. I think it sucked whatever crud particle i squeezed loose in that hose, deeper into the carb. Because you know killing an engine like that abruptly will cause the gas flow to surge abruptly.
Thank you! Followed your instructions and my lawnmower is back in business.
Darlene, I am so happy it worked out for you. Now, go cut some grass!

Thank you so much
This was very helpful. Mowers is now running however the motor is now surging. It revs up and down. Ideas?
how does air filter look? try removing it and see if it makes a difference. if no change you still have a partially blocked jet.
Best video on these carbs. Thanks
Thank you.
Thank you, great information,
no problem
Awesome the best I seen on taking carb off and flush
Thanks for stopping by. Go cut some Grass!!!

Do you have the part number for the two screws that hold the carburetor to the air filter cover. You used a 9/32 socket to remove them.

is this a dial of some kind on the side to adjust?
