I played a lot of PW3. Stopped when I saw the last trophy was for maxing your bond with everyone, which is bollocks. Played PW4 once and never got back to it.
Really wish theyd make an Empires version where you create your own crew/fleet and go around the Blues, Grand Line and New World to become the Pirate King (or Fleet Admiral if you play a Marine).
Pirate Warriors 3 is one of my favorite Warriors game and IS my favorite One Piece game. So when 4 got announced, I was beyond excited. Bought it day one. Saw that characters no longer leveled up, my joy died immediately. I could not enjoy the game and I tried so hard because the game looks good and while I'm sad about cut characters (which should not be a thing especially for games like these) I LOVED the character additions to the game. I tried to play the game many times, but really can't get into it at all because of that. I really hope if Pirate Warriors 5 comes out that they go back to exp leveling.
That's interesting! I had a kind of opposite reaction. I'm not a fan of the progression systems in Musou titles because I don't play these games so I can feel like I'm slowly getting stronger. That's what more RPG focused titles are for. So when I saw that the characters no longer level up, I was really happy because I was hoping that would mean characters would have their full combo strings unlocked from the start, and there would be more of a focus on customizing the flavor of the power trip rather than slowly getting stronger, an idea also supported by how Specials work in this game. That would bring it more in line with how Fate Extella LINK handled customization of its characters, which I really enjoyed. But then I found out that progression managed to become _even slower_ because of how you have to craft both stat increases and attack unlocks individually, which takes so much more resources than just using money to level up to your highest level character. Whenever I unlock a new character, I almost never have enough coins or money to get their full combo string unlocked, let alone any of their Specials beyond their default four. So ultimately, much like you, I can't really get into it because I feel stuck using the characters I've already unlocked stuff for instead of getting to use whichever character I'd like.
@@metalguitaridkThey have levels, but they don’t level up in the traditional sense. And I get why they dislike the removal of it. It just makes it so you have absolutely no reason to use a character outside of just wanting to. I personally liked having to use a character in order to level them up, as it helps you understand how the character works gradually instead of just unlocking everything that the character has access to, having it all available from the start, and then going from there.
This game has the cleanest HUD and textures, plus I love the addition of characters like Kaido and Big Mom, but I never got invested in it like I did with 3.
This was my 1st one piece Warriors game that I played primarily because my friends were singing the praises of this 1 and after going through it yeah it's definitely well worth it. I did have my issues with it as well like I noticed that since every character had the exact same 1st growth map that means there is no reason to use any other character other than the one you're gonna be using the most which is already a problem because since luffy has a whole lot of outfits plus the fact that he has a lot more of a variety move set and that hes the main character that means you'll most likely use him or 1 of the straw hat characters and barely use anybody else unless you really like that character. Plus not only do we don't have certain characters anymore from 3 but we also don't even have any more new characters that were never playable in 3 like some characters from earlier in the series to at a certain point and actually had a major glow up like luffy's 1st friend that he made in the 1st episode, Tobi is not playable and while this is the easiest game to Platinum as was shown when my friend got every trophy, I'm definitely guessing that he manly just focused on one character used that character and then just 100% in the game that way. And it sucks because the pirate Warriors games are known for having a lot of characters that are different and don't share move sets but here there is no need to use anyone else. In any case this was definitely a fun game but I really really really really would want like some more anime related Warriors games that isn't just this or some of the disappointments we've had in the past. Great job Chris as always!
I did a review for this game when it came out and concluded something similar, in my case I called it a side step. Combat has never been better, but content and map objectives are lacking. Still great in my opinion, treasure log does enough to have somewhere to play this amazing combat at least. I think the aerial combat compensates the combo inputs by far. The problem is that I only want to play as characters that actually have air combos.
Game just recently anounced that its getting more dlc funnily enough, 1st pack being based around the current arc in anime, or more the coming moment, 2nd pack is film red based, and the 3rd pack brings in 3 "legends"
I personally think that a Xenoblade MUSOU game is practically an essential at this point given there’s 4 games, alongside DLC, to pull content from and Nintendo has a healthy relationship with Koei.
xenoblade, smash, (not nintendo but) FF dissidia, hell KH could have it's own, ether way i wanna see those and more have MUSOU games, it's such a fun idea
I love pw4, but I don't understand why people are expecting pw5 anytime soon. They wouldn't make a whole sequel just to finish the Wano Arc. I'm just hoping the add back in the removed costumes from pw3
Really liked this video, you brought up some great points but man despite it's flaws I still really like the game. I personally loved treasure log because there was usually special dialogues or unique what-if scenarios that you'd never see in the anime, i thought it was a really neat way of coming up with extra stages. Also, I've played world seeker and thought it was alright, I'd definitely wanna see a pros vs cons review on that game when you get around to playing it :)
7:25 They do actually have a reason for this. 4 uses a completely different lighting engine from the previous games. This means that had to redo every single costume’s texture no exception. Still, Buggy and Crocodile's Marineford costumes are basically just color swaps of their normal ones, so that's dumb.
Character list is really strange. Missing garp, enel, Moria, sengoku, kuma, and perona is wild when we get all of sanjis siblings, and 2 of the wholecake minor antagonists. It’s like they got to the last two arcs before wano and just grabbed whoever they could find
This has to be the best looking and feeling Musou leagues beyond DW. I'd love to know how production budget is allocated across their licensed and in-house IP.
Not sure when this was recorded or if you saw my comment on your pirate warriors 1 review, but if you haven't I feel it bears repeating One Piece's Final Arc is still a few years away at minimum (I wouldn't be surprised if it was actually still 5 years out considering how long it has been running for at this point). What Oda and his editors at jump are clearly referring to the manga being in its final saga which is clear based on how the most recent arc has been progressing and how much has been happening in the one piece world in general since we've entered this final saga of the series that being said I believe the use of the word "arc" as opposed to saga is merely a difference in phrasing that Jump or the manga industry at large uses for sections of the story meanwhile fans refer to them as sagas and smaller junks of the story as arcs (like with Orange Town, Syrup Village, Sabaody, Fishman Island, and Wano) where its mostly one island with only a handful of arcs and sagas sharing the same name
i mean Pirate Warriors 3 did well enough for them to consider making new DLC for it now so there's hope for a Pirate Warriors 5, hopefully when the story is complete and we can tell the whole story from start to finish and not cut out major arcs and characters from the game like Skypea and favourite character to many Enaru (god i miss him in PW4, he was so OP).
Ive been with the series for 20+ years now and was stupidly hyped for PW4, even three years later. One Piece Odyssey was suppose to be THAT quintessential One Piece game but that was a let down, to this day i still recommend PW4 to people that are curious. The obly gripe i have is that it needs more content in the form of dream logs and what not. PW3 was perfect, all PW4 had to do was expand on that but unfortunately we didnt get that.
Such a shame about the cuts of characters and story stages in this game because the gameplay and graphics are so good. I also have been asking for a Dragon Ball Musou for years, I hope Omega Force can make this a reality in the future.
Sorry in advance for the long post. This one was disappointing for me. The big thing is the shield enemies get when you fight them certain characters could get through this easy like the giant characters and Luffy. But characters that attacked slower and had shorter ranges struggled hard (Chopper Capone and ESPECIALLY Buggy). I also think this is why certain characters were removed because alot of them had grab attacks in their move sets but you cant grab enemies if their shields up, I know they added Uruoge later on but by that point they probably figured it out and it still looks weird when you grab someone and they just pop back into standing position. They also removed Kuma and Moria because despite them being giant characters, their movests weren't brawlers like Whitebeard so it would have been awkward putting them in even though pacifistas are in the game. And while yes there are more characters, three of them are basicly clones (Vinsmoke brothers) and aren't even that fun. Over all visually looks nice, but not fun to play with a large portion of the roster.
Hey Chris, with the new DLCs on it's way, the new Upgrade system and the new game mode, I hope that once they've all come out, you can do another quick video about the game and give it another shot. The new Upgrade system is, similarly to the 1st map, global. Allowing you to raise the base level of every character even further beyond and making it less resources heavy to try out different characters as you play, which is great overall.. But right now, there is no content difficult enough in this game to justify how powerful you can get. With the current 2 out of 4 upgrade maps, you can reach level 24 (Previously capped at 18) and there sadly isn't any missions beyond level 20, and those are limited to the Campaign on Ultra Hard, so no Harder Treasure Log, giving us no reason to go back to it. These new upgrade maps also unlocks brand new game changing traits for characters as well as upgrade some of the already existing ones. The cherry on top is that it also gives you 2 new trait slots, making builds more flexible and interesting, bringing those characters to whole new levels on the battlefield. The new Game mode is adding 4 missions per Pack, and those missions were undeniably fun while being the required farm for the new upgrade currency, but them using the already existing stages and each mission being set to a specific map makes them quite the repetitive quest despite the dev's efforts at making these missions have a ton of unique side mission with clever trigger requirements. For the characters, more characters is always more fun, the base 43 + the 18 DLC characters are making quite the impressive Roster, including the 4 Pre-Timeskip strawhats and 10 Full on transformations that are pretty much characters of their own, this all adds up to an impressive 75 playable characters.
I like pw4, but i agree that 3 is better. while the combat is great, it feels like it missing a lot just to show of the new stuff and hoping thats enough. also while i like the dlc characters im surprise we got no new stages to use them.
This game was ok,but it’s pretty barebones. I wished they spent more time on it and added more content. PW3 beats it in story,progression and replayability.
Wtf this is the first time Iv heard of this game before. There sitting on a gold mine and need naruto for this game imagine actually going into the shinobi wars with them as the warriors franchise
I loved PW4, but I think they could do more like: Chopper transformations would be so cool Enel sky type with transformation Make the map be random for each mission in treasure log like PW3 and random encounters and a random option for the game choose a mission/character for you and all the costumes from previous game, some of they are so cool I would like more new missions/costumes than new playable characters I will never forgive for they remove the secondary objectives you can do in the main missions for new lore/conversations Sanji brothers are like the same characters in 3 slot, they could just put others there, Oven would be so cool. I felt this game is a "beta" for what they plan next, they will reuse the arcs they put here, and make the other ones for pw5, for make the game a lot bigger and I say without think twice, DREAM LOG was the best secondary thing ever in a musou game for me, 83 islands, and the map is always random, the random encounters mid battle are also random too, this make you want to replay more some missions, pw4 is always the same, even the map...
The best one was pirate warriors 1 it was so cool flying around with luffy and the boss fights felt like actuall boss fights, you had to fly around and there was quick time events against the bosses it really made it feel special, like in enies lobby you started as luffy then it would switch you to sanji to fight against jabura and then to zoro vs kaku and back to luffy, since the second game they took all of that away, would they have improved those mechanics the games would be a lot better in my opinion, now its just walkin around and punishing enemies( which is fun and i love it) if you‘re a one piece fan then the game is great but it would have been nice if they atleast kept the quick time events and made the boss fights a little challenging
PW 1 was the best in it's story presentation I feel. PW 2 was a step back for me. PW3 perfected the new formula PW2 had tried to do so sloppily. It has the best modes and character selection. PW4 has the best combat and graphics. However, even though the maps have more varity in design because of the lack of different ones and the ungodly amount of repeats in the Treasure Log they god old fast. I can play PW3 for along time. PW4 only for a short while till it gets old again. PW2 is stale and weird at the same time. And PW1 is just pure nostalgia.
I want a anime/video game crossover warriors game. Basically warriorsorochi /allstars but anime/other video game characters even. Fate zero actually has a warriors series and persona did one but that one lacked characters. I gotta try the fate one.
For me Pirate Warriors 4 is the only one that I have to investigate the Guides and Level Up System also why no Garp since he is the main draw of the Marines with the Admirals
Pirate Warriors 2 is my favorite. 3 and 4 chare the 2nd place and 1 is on 3rd. Because I watch One Piece since ca. 2005 and played all of the Pirate Warriors games on launch i got much more out of 2 than any of the other ones.
i mean Pirate warriors 3 had those pre and post time skip costumes so yea why shouldn't 4, it just doesn't make sense that we didn't get the pre time skip versions of the rest of the Strawhats
i can't believe u skipped over the fact that Pirate warriors 4 now has different types of characters them being Power, Speed, Technique and Sky, Sky being completely new since u could never be in the air, i though u would of mentioned them when u were talking about the addition of the Jump button which let's be real the game didn't really need at all.
Gaaaah, the combat feels so good, but I can't deal with the Growth Map system. It'd be so much better if they had just made it so the first _two_ maps were shared among all characters instead of only the first one. They could have moved all the character specific Skill and Special unlocks/level ups to the third map, instead of having it be _only_ for stat increases. That way, the entire roster would both have their combo strings fully unlocked by hour 10, and level up mostly together, which would make enjoying the variety in the roster SO much easier. As it is I find it takes playing 3 or 4 stages to get enough coins to unlock the full combo string for a new character. This shouldn't be such a struggle 50 hours into the darn game. And I _really_ don't like this trend of Warriors games making it harder to unlock characters' combo strings. I dropped Fire Emblem Warriors because combo strings were locked behind the rare and consumable Master Seals, and I dropped Age of Calamity because combo strings were locked behind freaking story progression. I haven't seen anyone else talking about this trend and that makes me worried about future Musou titles leaning even more into slow RPG progression that isn't shared between characters that will leave me dropping combos like a fool because of incomplete combo strings.
I just bought the game for $38.00 the ultimate edition its on sale. I just want to play, the Story mode, Mainly. I played the game on HARD Mode and almost died fighting Smoker. Took me 23 mins to beat. Does it make a difference in item drop or experience points, if I play the game on Normal or Hard mode? Also can I swish from HARD - Normal, and not have to start from the begging? how long is the Story mode? Any last advice/tip, anyone wants to give me, before I continue my adventure?
Well, this aged well. Anyway I have a question, I wanna play this game but torn on getting the regular or deluxe version of the game. The deluxe version + the new dlc pack is over 100 dollars.
I got the Deluxe and love a lot of the DLC characters. Plus I'm a sucker for cosmetics and there was a couple that came with it iirc. But all the DLC can be bought separately, it'll just be more expensive. But you can buy them Piece by piece when you have the spare money.
I got Pirate Warriors 4 and being honest for me it was like a downgrade ; the Upgrades and the Story Mode, also DLC is like 15% of the game and Onishigama Pack contradicts the Final Chapter. For me Kenps Rage 2 ands PW 3
I loved this game it was on gamepass and I never watched one piece I know what it is though. I’m so jealous ps plus has all the mosou games but Xbox barely gets them on gamepass but it had/has this one. I just wish it had English dub I’m so tired of them not dubbing these games most likely for money purposes warriors games just aren’t popular and I assume they sell average Atleast maybe good if it’s a anime one they should do a naruto warriors game. And people don’t complain about it enough so if they can get away with it why dub it? Atleast dw9 tried to appeal to the west with dub. But they removed it in empires because it was so bad and they didn’t want to add anymore. But they should’ve been approved for Atleast having it as an option.
This game is by far the best PW and musou game simply because of it's combat. Who cares about story or missions in these titles? If the gameplay is fulfilling, so is the musou title. Your criticisms seem to adress only the most irrelevant aspects of a musou. You can customize your movesets and have literally more characters than before, all with completely new movesets. What is wrong with you?

Growth map is just the same thing except you decide what you want prioritzed first.

After playing Pirate Warriors 4, I can say without a doubt that DBZ Warriors would work very well.

I love PW4 for its combat but it has lots of stuff missing from PW3 but it's still a fun game to play I would still recommend though👍
I really miss victory animations. Hyrule warriors had them as well as the ones you mentioned, and i loved them.
Hey Chris, with the new DLCs on it's way, the new Upgrade system and the new game mode, I hope that once they've all come out, you can do another quick video about the game and give it another shot.
The new Upgrade system is, similarly to the 1st map, global. Allowing you to raise the base level of every character even further beyond and making it less resources heavy to try out different characters as you play, which is great overall.. But right now, there is no content difficult enough in this game to justify how powerful you can get. With the current 2 out of 4 upgrade maps, you can reach level 24 (Previously capped at 18) and there sadly isn't any missions beyond level 20, and those are limited to the Campaign on Ultra Hard, so no Harder Treasure Log, giving us no reason to go back to it.
These new upgrade maps also unlocks brand new game changing traits for characters as well as upgrade some of the already existing ones. The cherry on top is that it also gives you 2 new trait slots, making builds more flexible and interesting, bringing those characters to whole new levels on the battlefield.
The new Game mode is adding 4 missions per Pack, and those missions were undeniably fun while being the required farm for the new upgrade currency, but them using the already existing stages and each mission being set to a specific map makes them quite the repetitive quest despite the dev's efforts at making these missions have a ton of unique side mission with clever trigger requirements.
For the characters, more characters is always more fun, the base 43 + the 18 DLC characters are making quite the impressive Roster, including the 4 Pre-Timeskip strawhats
and 10 Full on transformations that are pretty much characters of their own, this all adds up to an impressive 75 playable characters.

I like pw4, but i agree that 3 is better. while the combat is great, it feels like it missing a lot just to show of the new stuff and hoping thats enough. also while i like the dlc characters im surprise we got no new stages to use them.
The DLC offering for OPPW4 is so mixed.
This game was ok,but it’s pretty barebones. I wished they spent more time on it and added more content. PW3 beats it in story,progression and replayability.

I loved PW4, but I think they could do more like:
Chopper transformations would be so cool
Enel sky type with transformation
Make the map be random for each mission in treasure log like PW3 and random encounters
and a random option for the game choose a mission/character for you
and all the costumes from previous game, some of they are so cool
I would like more new missions/costumes than new playable characters
I will never forgive for they remove the secondary objectives you can do in the main missions for new lore/conversations
Sanji brothers are like the same characters in 3 slot, they could just put others there, Oven would be so cool.
I felt this game is a "beta" for what they plan next, they will reuse the arcs they put here, and make the other ones for pw5, for make the game a lot bigger
and I say without think twice, DREAM LOG was the best secondary thing ever in a musou game for me, 83 islands, and the map is always random, the random encounters mid battle are also random too, this make you want to replay more some missions, pw4 is always the same, even the map...
The best one was pirate warriors 1 it was so cool flying around with luffy and the boss fights felt like actuall boss fights, you had to fly around and there was quick time events against the bosses it really made it feel special, like in enies lobby you started as luffy then it would switch you to sanji to fight against jabura and then to zoro vs kaku and back to luffy, since the second game they took all of that away, would they have improved those mechanics the games would be a lot better in my opinion, now its just walkin around and punishing enemies( which is fun and i love it) if you‘re a one piece fan then the game is great but it would have been nice if they atleast kept the quick time events and made the boss fights a little challenging
PW 1 was the best in it's story presentation I feel. PW 2 was a step back for me. PW3 perfected the new formula PW2 had tried to do so sloppily. It has the best modes and character selection. PW4 has the best combat and graphics. However, even though the maps have more varity in design because of the lack of different ones and the ungodly amount of repeats in the Treasure Log they god old fast. I can play PW3 for along time. PW4 only for a short while till it gets old again. PW2 is stale and weird at the same time. And PW1 is just pure nostalgia.
It's a shame they removed some much beloved characters and also the pre time skip content
I want a anime/video game crossover warriors game. Basically warriorsorochi /allstars but anime/other video game characters even. Fate zero actually has a warriors series and persona did one but that one lacked characters. I gotta try the fate one.
For me Pirate Warriors 4 is the only one that I have to investigate the Guides and Level Up System also why no Garp since he is the main draw of the Marines with the Admirals
Pirate Warriors 2 is my favorite.
3 and 4 chare the 2nd place and 1 is on 3rd.
Because I watch One Piece since ca. 2005 and played all of the Pirate Warriors games on launch i got much more out of 2 than any of the other ones.
When are we going to get a Kingdom musuo game?? That seems like a natural fit.
There is a PSP game that's apparently Musou adjacent. I have it on my list to eventually cover on the Musou Clones series.
i mean Pirate warriors 3 had those pre and post time skip costumes so yea why shouldn't 4, it just doesn't make sense that we didn't get the pre time skip versions of the rest of the Strawhats

OPPW4 is my favorite musou game . I don't think there is a single character's moveset I don't like.
There's a few character movesets I'm not a fan of, but they're greatly outnumbered by the greats.

Destiny Gundam Reborn is my all time favorite mosu game but i still love PW4 too even tho it has no partner system and lesser roster

i can't believe u skipped over the fact that Pirate warriors 4 now has different types of characters them being Power, Speed, Technique and Sky, Sky being completely new since u could never be in the air, i though u would of mentioned them when u were talking about the addition of the Jump button which let's be real the game didn't really need at all.
Pirate Warriors 3 is definitely better because as u said for every improvement 4 added it feels like it took 2 other steps back.

Gaaaah, the combat feels so good, but I can't deal with the Growth Map system. It'd be so much better if they had just made it so the first _two_ maps were shared among all characters instead of only the first one. They could have moved all the character specific Skill and Special unlocks/level ups to the third map, instead of having it be _only_ for stat increases. That way, the entire roster would both have their combo strings fully unlocked by hour 10, and level up mostly together, which would make enjoying the variety in the roster SO much easier.
As it is I find it takes playing 3 or 4 stages to get enough coins to unlock the full combo string for a new character. This shouldn't be such a struggle 50 hours into the darn game. And I _really_ don't like this trend of Warriors games making it harder to unlock characters' combo strings. I dropped Fire Emblem Warriors because combo strings were locked behind the rare and consumable Master Seals, and I dropped Age of Calamity because combo strings were locked behind freaking story progression. I haven't seen anyone else talking about this trend and that makes me worried about future Musou titles leaning even more into slow RPG progression that isn't shared between characters that will leave me dropping combos like a fool because of incomplete combo strings.
I just bought the game for $38.00 the ultimate edition its on sale. I just want to play, the Story mode, Mainly.
I played the game on HARD Mode and almost died fighting Smoker. Took me 23 mins to beat.
Does it make a difference in item drop or experience points, if I play the game on Normal or Hard mode?
Also can I swish from HARD - Normal, and not have to start from the begging?
how long is the Story mode?
Any last advice/tip, anyone wants to give me, before I continue my adventure?
Well, this aged well. Anyway I have a question, I wanna play this game but torn on getting the regular or deluxe version of the game. The deluxe version + the new dlc pack is over 100 dollars.
I got the Deluxe and love a lot of the DLC characters. Plus I'm a sucker for cosmetics and there was a couple that came with it iirc. But all the DLC can be bought separately, it'll just be more expensive. But you can buy them Piece by piece when you have the spare money.
I got Pirate Warriors 4 and being honest for me it was like a downgrade ; the Upgrades and the Story Mode, also DLC is like 15% of the game and Onishigama Pack contradicts the Final Chapter. For me Kenps Rage 2 ands PW 3

I don't think there's a way to play against, only co-op.
I loved this game it was on gamepass and I never watched one piece I know what it is though. I’m so jealous ps plus has all the mosou games but Xbox barely gets them on gamepass but it had/has this one. I just wish it had English dub I’m so tired of them not dubbing these games most likely for money purposes warriors games just aren’t popular and I assume they sell average Atleast maybe good if it’s a anime one they should do a naruto warriors game. And people don’t complain about it enough so if they can get away with it why dub it? Atleast dw9 tried to appeal to the west with dub. But they removed it in empires because it was so bad and they didn’t want to add anymore. But they should’ve been approved for Atleast having it as an option.

This game is by far the best PW and musou game simply because of it's combat. Who cares about story or missions in these titles? If the gameplay is fulfilling, so is the musou title. Your criticisms seem to adress only the most irrelevant aspects of a musou. You can customize your movesets and have literally more characters than before, all with completely new movesets. What is wrong with you?
