I work at a bar and when it’s allmlst closingtime I used to put on some Highwaymen... Longing for the time when covid is a bad dream from the past and we can enjoy life again
Waylon had one of the greatest voices. He could sing anything. Waylon could sing anyone's songs, but not everyone can sing his. One of the most iconic voices ever
I saw Willie Nelson in concert one time at a fair and literally sat there with a dumb grin on my face the whole time. It was magic! Angel flying too close to the ground was wonderful! Hearing him sing. On the Road again made it seem as if all was right with the world! Good times!

Why do I never get tired of listening to this man? Perhaps its because he sang like real grown up men like him behaved. The original Rocker and an outlaw legend. Rest in peace Hoss.
I was lucky enough to see them all, and as I knew Willie very well, I was able to meet them all ang hang out between sound check and Waylon even took me to go find and meet Bobby Emmons as this is one of my favorite songs.. Atlantic City, New Jersey....sometime in the 90's😁
If you just think about the quality of the voice, for me it’s Waylon. Johnny, of course, has his own resonance, but Waylon has that wide open, deep, rich sound that is really special.
Waylon's voice was incredible. Listen to him singing In Dreams in the early 60s. He gives even Roy Orbison a run for his money. In his younger years, Waylon's range was over 3 octaves.
Legends. I got into country in 1980. I'm an Englishman & I was working on a yacht in Glyfada, Greece. The bars were full of U.S. servicemen, Canadian oil riggers & British barmaids. Willie & Waylon seemed to be playing constantly. Best years of my life.
I know exactly where Luckenbach TX is! My family of German ancestry used to go there for annual family reunions! We have pictures on front of the little general store even! Sorry we can’t go there these years 😢
I'm 23 and I listen to all old good outlaw country, like Merle Haggard, Willie, Waylon, etc... I am also a big fan of the freewheeling Bob Dylan and JJ Cale (who is my favorite artist in general).
These 4 great musicians, really brought it together when they decided to become Outlaws, The Highwaymen. I saw them in person twice, it's was awesome!! They also have a great backup band. They will always be my favorites. 🤗👏🎶🎼🥰

That 1990s Concert at Nassau Coliseum, I actually was able to buy the Dvd of it a few years ago from Amazon. I just loved Their Ghost Riders in The Sky. With now late Guitarist, Reggie Young, guitar solo in the song. I miss these guys as the Highwaymen, started out as American Outlaws, thus ended up as The Highwaymen. This was in 1990. In the summer of 91 I got to see them in Vegas. Was so amazing to see these four icons together on stage. Absolutely the greatest concert I ever saw.

I love this song. This was always on the juke when I was a young fellah. These guys are all legends. Lucky me, later I got to play a bunch of bass with Willie... I never imagined that would happen when I was putting all those quarters in the juke. 😎

This chapter in the history of country music is closed. It can never be rewritten, recreated. resurrected or perfected the way it was here. But at least we have this record to remind future generations of artists what inspiration is and how the whole can be made greater than the sum of its parts, even when the parts are Johnny Cash, willie Nelson, waylon Jennings and kris kristofferson.
That steel guitar solo is one of the best I ever heard... the guy is a genius. So simple, yet so on point. I guess Waylon only played with the best, no wonder why these musicians are nailing it. Waylon was like Pat Metheny of country music.
I was at that show, but I didn't remember that Willie stayed in the background on this song and didn't come out front to sing his part. For one reason or another, Waylon was the star of the Highwaymen shows. He was kind of the informal MC, talking directly to the audience about what was coming up.
I remember Waylon first sang that song without Willie and when he put it on the outlaw record he put Willie on it and it was another of Waylons great ideas ....

I still feel that both Willie and Kris are better songwriters, but that doesn't mean Waylon wasn't a good songwriter himself and I never claimed that he was. I'm European, so I'm not sure how well know Waylon was outside country music in America, but he wasn't as well known in Europe as Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, Merle Haggard, Kris Krisofferson, and Hank Williams. @@clauskristensen2184 I'm sorry to hear that because in all HONESTY Willie or Kris wouldn't have made it by just writing songs..Waylons been around since Buddy Holly and he broke open every road in Nashville but he wasn't into the fame gang..in fact it was HIS idea about the highwayman but he rarely told anyone but in one of the interviews in concert Willie touched on it but Waylon didn't like taking credit ..Did you know that Waylon and Jessi are the only 2 that put the Outlaw record together?? They couldn't speak of it for years until the statue of limitations ran out because Willie was under contract under different label but he included Willie and Tom Paul so they would get credits..thanks for the time..
love this song! Reminds me of my ex-boyfriend... went together for a year & broke up but we still cared for each other. His sister was my best friend, so we stayed in contact til she passed away in 2011 but i'd still call him & kept up with the family. We stayed close & one day he came by the place where i worked & wanted me to jump on his bike with him & head to Luckenbach which was 2 1/2 hrs away.. if i hadnt been married i woulda... we lost him 2 years ago.. I miss him & think of him every time i hear this song.

When I moved to Texas in 1976 I was only 5 years old. I remember hearing this when it came out in 1977. I WAS MY FAVORITE SONG AT THAT TIME! I still enjoy it today though... I have been to Luckenbach TX it's very small not much of city.

His sister was my best friend, so we stayed in contact til she passed away in 2011 but i'd still call him & kept up with the family. We stayed close & one day he came by the place where i worked & wanted me to jump on his bike with him & head to Luckenbach which was 2 1/2 hrs away.. if i hadnt been married i woulda... we lost him 2 years ago.. I miss him & think of him every time i hear this song.

Most of the "population" of Luckenbach live outside the town on ranches and farms.
