    Loved this - a griddle truly changes things. As an RV person, I have a griddle and a grill, and while the principal advice works with both the larger and smaller griddles, here's what I would add:
    Definitely know your griddle - the hot spots and the warm spots. You are a griddle god when you can make the toast, eggs and bacon finish at the same time based on where you locate them.
    Portable griddles - spend time leveling them as best you can before you go crazy. That same griddle that worked to perfection will crap-out when out of level.
    Portable griddles part 2 - no, sorry, travelers: griddles don't replace grills. Griddles+smashburgers = success. Griddles+fat sirloin burgers = greasy messes that would have completed 1000 times better on a standard grill. Fry versus flame broil. You can come close to emulating, but you can't replace. I have both units in my rig for a reason.
    Like any long-term relationship, provide much love to your griddle surface. The difference between a crap cooking session and success is determined about how that griddle surface has been maintained. This won't be new news to anybody who's spent time worshipping at the cast-iron pan altar. Keep that griddle surface oil-pre-treated and loved, and it will deliver you eggs without torn-up yolks, burgers flipped without a mechanical fight, and clean-ups with not much more than a damp rag run over the still-warm surface. At the end of every RV season, I lovingly gift the surface with a scouring followed by a ~ 1 hour treatment with the RIGHT oil, to leave me a griddle next season ready to love me back.

    Another trick I use, when I use a press to smash raw ground beef or sausage I used to put a piece of parchment paper between the press and the meat to keep the meat from sticking to the press. That was the old way, now I warm the press up on the griddle before I use it and get it nice and warm and nothing sticks to it. Ditch the parchment paper

    When I was a young and broke, now I'm just old and broke, I picked up a large piece of 1/4 steel plate from the scrap yard and place it over the campfire ring.. After burning it in I would place the meat on the high side and let the grease drip down to the rest of the meal. After it would cool down I'd clean and oil it and wrap it in a piece of canvas for storage. It is indestructible.

    Another way to spice up 'toasted' bread (I use Duke's lol), is shake a tiny bit of Montreal Steak seasoning on it. You can use any seasoning you like, that one's just my general use favorite, lol. It's insanely good on grilled steak sandwiches.

    That's how I always make eggs, in the house or on griddle. You will never need to flip the eggs ever again. How long you steam them depends how you want the yolk. Me personally, runny yolks and I don't get along well. My yolks are done, but they look and taste like a great boiled egg yolk. Delicious 😋

      Haha actually I'm in Columbus Ohio. I do like my camo chef a lot. I've used four burner Blackstone's as well and they work just fine. I have nothing against them. My only real problem with the Blackstones are that there's a gap between the surface and the flame so wind can get to your burners and mess up your temp. This isn't on all of there models but a lot of them. As for other brands like put boss, razor, members mark, and teager. I've never used them so I don't really have an opinion.

    Now, back to our regularly scheduled program. Could you please discuss further how you would use the warming rack when you grill? Also, what is the best way to tell if the grill top is warped? Should I just use regular level? Once again, thank you for sharing your grilling knowledge. Take care.

    • @JohnnyBrunet
      @JohnnyBrunet  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I use the warming rack for anything that is cooking faster than the rest of the meal. So if you're doing bacon and a few of them are done but the rest aren't, put those finished ones on the rack. I also put my coffee up there from time to time. I'll use the small rack with a dome over it to create an oven and do biscuits. So basically anything you want off the direct heat. Like the top rack of a regular grill.
      And ya just use a level, it's not the end of the world if yours is t perfectly level but if it warps definitely contact the manufacturer immediately.
      Thanks so much for watching.
