I think for gaming laptops that 4-5 hour mark is a good sweet spot for day to to day use. I have the aero 15v8 and battery life is pretty decent when I was a full-time student ( so word processing, around 10 tabs, a couple videos, and maybe excel) I could do a 6 hour day without a plug, granted with some "range anxiety" 17% mark is when I finished and that with actively thinking about half battery, brightness 35% no sounds, backlit keys off, and screen of for a couple mins during lecture I wish battery life was tested with the intention of " can this device perform these tasks reseason able on battery" Versus dropping performance on everything until it can do the bare minimum what slightly bothers me is that at least for the Aero 15 v8 on battery the CPU is locked at 1.70ghz so some tasked get really slugged, I understand its to save on battery but there is no excuse i have an HP laptop for work and CPU to fluctuate to the 3.0 or 2.5 and lower to 1.3-0.7! yes, the core count is different but even so the cooling for the gaming laptop should better, therefore, sustaining clocks versus ultrabook trying to keep cool. Single-threaded tasks will benefit more from a 1 or 2 cores at 2.3-2.8 than all six at 1.7
For gaming laptops specifically, the Alienware m15. Very good key travel, can't remember how tactile it is but it stands out in my memory as a keyboard that I enjoyed typing on. I don't remember anything else that stood out as being particularly enjoyable for a gaming laptop specifically (that I've reviewed). For laptops in general, the Surface Laptop series, Surface Book, Surface Pro type cover is a bit strange because the entire type cover flexes downwards; the ThinkPad P1/X1 Extreme has very good key travel but a softer tactile bump than the Surface devices, quite similar to the older MacBooks; the 2015 and older MacBooks, and I think there was one more but I can't remember it. My favorite is the Surface Laptop. Good key travel but very tactile. You can immediately tell when you've missed a key press. If I can't, then I'll usually continue typing for 2-3 more characters before seeing the typo on my screen but when I can, I can often stop and press backspace without any additional key presses. Very nice.

One think to say about razer i got my Blade 15 advanced 3 days ago and its great and ok quality but their flex cabe for display is awful and that is the reason I'm sending mine back in January because the flex cable is 3 days old and it already has stretch marks and line from just opening the display i would not care if it was easy to order and replace it for normal price but because razer does not provide parts at all you cant find that cable anywhere, I have the RTX2080 Max-Q an 2600€ Laptop that has very poorly made display flex cable They could use the normal cables instant of flex but they did not... They been selling advanced models with flex cables sine 2018 and, I have read that many people had an issue with camera and mic because of broken flex cable !
I'll have to check my review of the 2019 models. I don't think I really liked the them so I'll watch a few reviews and if it's improved, I'll review them.
i undervolted the GPU and CPU on mine (have 1.02 bios, pre-plundervolt bios) and applied liquid metal. Now the fans run at about 3800-4000 RPM when under high load and CPU and GPU don't go above 70C like that. And yes, I mean seven zero, not 70s; it tops out at around 68-70C
I wonder, I don’t mean to be the dumb one but say I’m playing a low-demanding game like team fortress 2. Will the laptop automatically use all the power it can to play it despite it not necessarily needing it? If it does not, does the laptop stay cooler then?
Specifically for tf2, it's single threaded and not very GPU heavy so while it will try to run at the fastest frame rate it can (unless you cap it in the game. default is 300 i think), it won't actually use up that much of your GPU or GPU. Poor optimization basically.

Hi! Thanks for the amazing and detailed video! I never owned a Razer laptop and I'm considering buying one. I'd like to replace my 1st Surface Book with Performance Base (GTX 965m) as well as my desktop workstation (i7 3930k, 32GB DDR3, GTX 1060 6GB) with custom liquid cooling. As I've moved to UK for work reason and I don't have lot of space to fit a desktop, I'm considering selling my desktop and probably even the Surface Book for a single portable machine, capable of gaming and content creation performance. I've found an offer for a 2019 Razer Blade 15 Base Model at 1199£, with 9th gen i7, 16GB RAM, 256GB SSD and 1660ti. I need a laptop for content creation (LR, PS, Pr, Capture One) and capable of gaming some AAA titles. I also own a Oculus Rift S so I'm a VR player. My choice was between Surface Book 3 (no Rift S support), Dell XPS 15, Eluktronics Mag 15. Dell XPS 15 is a nice machine but it's very expensive and it isn't compatible with the Rift S (video port is linked to Intel GPU). Eluktronics would be a good choice as well but I'm afraid it would be too bulky (I'm used to Surface Book) and the price could get a bit high. Being also on a budget this offer I've found for a brand new 2019 Razer Blade fits my needs for work and fun. I don't need the latest +10% performance given by the latest gen CPU, I've been using a Skylake i5 6600u, so everything would be amazing for my job. Would you suggest me if It's a good choice the 15 Base Model from 2019? I'd plan to upgrade ram to 32GB, SSD in the future. Thanks in advance for the help! PS: I love my Surface Book but the inability to upgrade anything it's very limiting and frustrating. I upgraded the GPU thankfully to the fact I could swap the base with the more powerful Performance Base GPU! But it isn't enough for VR, Gaming and latest content creation requirements.
@@InfinityLabsTech either mixed units or they updated things. It was like that in early 2019 models with vapor chamber vs base not have it. Would love to hear your thoughts on the things they cut back on to save money on the new ones. I have the rare advanced white mercury 2060 2019 model , full size battery , per key lighting . but in new one some of those things are gone for more ports. My question to you would be do you feel it was justified to cut corners to save the buyer money ? or do you disagree with the way its heading.
Is the keyboard colour permanent? On the website it says "Single Zone RGB" and "Full Character Lighting". I don't know much about this stuff so it'd be great to know!
No, single zone means the entire keyboard can only be one color at a time, but you can change it to any color you want. The Advance Model uses per-key RGB, so you can change the color of every switch individually. Think of it like one big LED panel on the base model and a single LED bulb for every switch on the advance model.
Have not seen it in person yet. I've reviewed the 2019 Advance Model and IF they have not improved the keyboard, then I don't think it's "endgame" worthy. Lenovo now has very bright 500 nit 144hz screens, MSI's GS66 Stealth has a 25% larger 100 watt hour battery, the OMEN 15 has ridiculously good cooling, there's also AMD Ryzen if you're interested in that. If you are looking at the Blade because you think it's the ultimate no-compromises laptop, it's not. The 2019 model is good overall, but it's not a laptop that's "better than everything else no matter how expensive it might be." And neither is anything else that I've tried, unfortunately. There's a lot of laptops now that each excel at one or two things like those 3 I mentioned, but there's nothing I'm aware of that excels at everything.
The Blade 15 Base 2020 model is pretty much unusable without an external keyboard while gaming from my experience. Even with turbo-boost off the palm rest gets uncomfortably hot and the keyboard is just a hazard. After my second day of use the unit shut itself off due to the CPU overheating, getting up to 100 degrees C on all cores, since then I have turned turbo boost off. A month later it died completely, this was with the unit running around 75 degrees C with turbo boost off. Currently in the RMA process. PSA avoid at all costs, the design is great but the reliability just isn't there yet.
Hi I enjoyed your video. I am having trouble with connecting my apple earbuds to the audio jack, i have two pairs that crackle randomly on the razer but not on my other laptops, what is going on??
Sometimes my headphones will crackle if the jack isn't plugged in all the way. If they are, then you should get a replacement right away. Most third-party retailers will give you a replacement immediately if you are within 14 days of purchase.
@@xp_crow8112 MSI GS66 is probably my favorite right now. Very little to dislike, and all around nice laptop. If you want a fast and good looking screen, Legion 7i comes with a 144hz and 240hz HDR 500-nit panel. The Alienware m15 r3 is also decent and has one of the best keyboards of any laptop. Helios 300 is a really good all-around laptop for $1200. Doesn't really excel at any one thing, it's just good in almost all areas. These are only for 15" gaming laptops, doesn't necessarily apply for 13, 14 or 17".

I had a razer for 3 months and broke down 4 times... psu caught fire, motherboard caught fire, screen had dead pixels and last was the keyboard not working. managed to get a refund and it was an horrible experience
The thermals of the 2019 Blade Advanced really annoy me. Unless I use Throttlestop, when the device is plugged in it overrides Intel Speedstep and stays way above base clock, causing the fans to constantly spin up and down just web browsing. I imagine the 2020 is worse with the new Intel chips.
Too bad Intel killed support for undervolting on 10th gen CPUs. NONE of the laptops I've reviewed with 10th gen CPUs supported either Intel XTU or Throttlestop. Otherwise, I would have undervolted this to see if there was at least a workaround for the surface temps.
Hi, your video review is excellent! I especially like the part at 5:49. So if the charging cable is plugged in, you cannot insert the ethernet cablet at the same time?
Nono, the charging port can be plugged in from the rear since it's reversible like USB-C. It's only IF you have it come down the side of the laptop that it interferes with the ports.
I would still choose this design over a charging port which fits in only 1 orientation. If you have a tiny USB wireless receiver (such as the kind found on Logitech mice & keyboards) and don’t require Ethernet, having the option to have the cable go in a second direction just provides an extra option - which I can’t complain about.
Thank you. Was about to buy a razer blade 15 base but i play all time with the stock keyboard and it seems it is freaking toasty. I tried the gs66 and they are too hot, that using the KB burns my fingers.
Have not tried the GS66 yet, but I've been interested in it because of its big battery. I'll try to keep an eye out on the surface temps assuming I don't forget.
you said the power cord blocks the ethernet and USB...turn the power cord the other way. I have this model; you just plug the power cord in the opposite way
No, I said "if". Meaning there is an alternative. If for whatever reason it's more convenient to route the power cable down the laptop, that's simply bad design on Razer's part.
6:47 "When you have manual fan control I consider that a bad thing" Why is it considered bad to have a manual fan control? Don't you want that feature?
No, I said "AND when you have manual fan control." The "bad thing" is in reference to the slower but quieter maximum fan speed, not the ability to manually control the fans since that's optional. You can always choose to run the fans at the manufacturer's fan curve. If Razer limits the fans to 5500RPM and it still runs quietly, that means you now lose the ability to make your laptop run really loud for really good cooling.
Yes, that is why I said "IF you have the charging cable going down the side of the laptop". "If" meaning there is an alternative. This is not an issue with barrel plug which most other laptops use because it can be rotated so it is worth mentioning here.
@@InfinityLabsTech So what was the point of saying that, wouldn't it have been better to just say "the cable can be plugged in either way"? That kind of little thing makes a difference for you as a reviewer.
@@saulslowik395 I didn't "just say" because the implication isn't there. USB-C is reversible, but it doesn't interfere with any other ports. I personally didn't notice this issue until I connected the power cable from the bottom with a USB device plugged in on the left side, which wasn't something I did on any of the previous models. This new experience is why I mentioned it-it wasn't immediately apparent to me. However, I'll mention workarounds or alternative situations for issues I run into in future reviews. It would be bad if people considered a laptop a dealbreaker if in reality there was a workaround.
For me, I saw Razer as the company that made high end laptops where cost is no object. Basically a MacBook Pro with a faster GPU. I wish the Advance Model was that, and the Base Model was like a Lenovo Legion laptop with the same CNC'd aluminum build quality. I personally feel like they are falling behind, but I didn't say that in the video because I've noticed that when reviewers start to bring their personal feelings and biases too much, viewers dislike that. Decided the best conclusion is to list its weaknesses and offer an alternative that excels in those areas (just at the cost of build quality).
Razer really goofed up the surface temps. Even the Advance model doesn't get as hot on the exterior, especially not on the palm rest area.
Can i just say for the 30k subs you have the content is amazing. Keep it up!

Excellent review as always, would love to see a review of the Legion 7 and the Alienware m15 and m17 R3!
Yeee very excited for those 2 myself. Not sure about the m17, 17" laptops aren't very common. At least not in my area.
The m15 / 17 better than those 2 all around

this is actually perfect for me because I have an external keyboard and screen!!
Did you end up buying it?
@@aaadrian.2 ya i did actually, its pretty good, its plays games like warzone and red dead 2 pretty well. i do have a laptop cooler running when i play games. it did blue screen a lot when it first got it, but i called razer support and all i had to do was update some drivers and it hasn't blue screened since. the only problem i currently have is that one of the fans rattle in normal use, but when the fans start going fast when i play games there's no rattle. i did get it $300 off, if it wasn't on sale i woulnt have gotten it, you can definitely get a laptop with a 2060 for the same price as the razer blade 1060ti, also the battery is REALLY bad, you need to carry a charger with you all the time unless your using it for under an hour

I just bought my own razer blade 15 base, when we trial run it on the store before buying, it works fine, but when i tried using on at home, it does some screen flickering from time to time, also when i go to system settings and clicked display, it also does a screen flicker but not as much as the one that randomly activates, any idea what might be the problem here? I already tried updating windows but the problem is still there.
I bought this one, I added a terabyte and upgraded the ram to 32gb. Aside from the battery, and being a fingerprint magnet . It’s a great laptop.

Was the heat an issue only from your particular system or is this a widespread thing
whats the bios version?have you encountered any issue like bsod?installing/updating drivers?
I think for gaming laptops that 4-5 hour mark is a good sweet spot for day to to day use. I have the aero 15v8 and battery life is pretty decent when I was a full-time student ( so word processing, around 10 tabs, a couple videos, and maybe excel) I could do a 6 hour day without a plug, granted with some "range anxiety" 17% mark is when I finished and that with actively thinking about half battery, brightness 35% no sounds, backlit keys off, and screen of for a couple mins during lecture
I wish battery life was tested with the intention of " can this device perform these tasks reseason able on battery" Versus dropping performance on everything until it can do the bare minimum
what slightly bothers me is that at least for the Aero 15 v8 on battery the CPU is locked at 1.70ghz so some tasked get really slugged, I understand its to save on battery but there is no excuse i have an HP laptop for work and CPU to fluctuate to the 3.0 or 2.5 and lower to 1.3-0.7! yes, the core count is different but even so the cooling for the gaming laptop should better, therefore, sustaining clocks versus ultrabook trying to keep cool. Single-threaded tasks will benefit more from a 1 or 2 cores at 2.3-2.8 than all six at 1.7
Which is better for gaming? Razer blade base 15 2019 or acer helios 300 2019? Thanks
Helios 300 easily
also a side question, which company do you think does laptop keyboards the best in your opinion
Very nice.
If you meant rgb its razer
White mercury looks better, just putting that out there , work place look & amazing in person.
Hotter ? Mine never reach 80 degree while playing huge games, I’m pretty happy with that one

Any plans about reviewing the 2020 dell g series laptops?
I'll have to check my review of the 2019 models. I don't think I really liked the them so I'll watch a few reviews and if it's improved, I'll review them.
On the temperature; i dont find it annoying. Its a just like holding a cup of warm chocolatemilk.
Its not painful or annoying
It literally sounds like a jet is taking of in my room every 5 minutes with the fan noise ☹️
i undervolted the GPU and CPU on mine (have 1.02 bios, pre-plundervolt bios) and applied liquid metal. Now the fans run at about 3800-4000 RPM when under high load and CPU and GPU don't go above 70C like that. And yes, I mean seven zero, not 70s; it tops out at around 68-70C

Awesome! Razer laptops always look nice but they always cost a lot more than the competition.
Look at the mag 15
Man no one is making a video on the updated Zephyrus S15 ;_;
Funnily enough, I saw the Zephyrus S17 recently but that's a 17" laptop and I prefer to review the 15" version if available.
Infinity Labs Thanks for the response! And also does this mean the laptop will be cooler in effect?
Would you recommend the 2070 max q version for $1650?
I mean if you want that build quality and performance, go for it! Get an extended warranty and enjoy :)
I was ready to jump on a Razer 15 Base with an RTX 2070 Amazon is selling today for $1,599 but after watching your video and some other videos on Razer's poor customer service I've opted to look elsewhere. The heat issue sounds really problematic and even though on paper $1,599 for the 2070 model sounds like a good deal I don't want to spend that money for something that's going to consistently overheat.

What laptop has a screen with more than 60hz and is as bright as a MacBook pro?
That price was £100 cheaper last week on amazon. You should wait for it again because it happens quite often.
.
I hate how they have a Base Model (no thunderbolt, other stuff cut too) and the Base Edition which always has Thunderbolt
The heat issue is related to base model with less cooling than advanced model
No, not in the slightest. I even showed thermal video of the previous Base Model showing that it doesn't have the same issue.
@@InfinityLabsTech either mixed units or they updated things. It was like that in early 2019 models with vapor chamber vs base not have it.
@@InfinityLabsTech Ah ok I'm cool with that. Overall I love the laptop but am just worried about the surface temps

i7-10750h?
Can I get ur short personal opinion on the 3000 dollar advanced blade 15? The one with 300 hz and 2080 super max q. Tysm if you see this
Have not seen it in person yet.
Can you make a video on predator Triton 300(2020) and it's thermals and compare it with other laptops
Will you review lenovo legion 5?

Yes, it is. If you route it to the rear, there are no issues or concerns. It's only "if you route it down the side of the laptop".
MSI gs66 base model review?
screen nits??
Can you review the ASUS G14?
Hi, your video review is excellent! I especially like the part at 5:49.
So if the charging cable is plugged in, you cannot insert the ethernet cablet at the same time?
Yes you can use it, the port is reversible
Infinity Labs Great! Thank you for clearing that up for me :)

Pretty sure the 2060 is 90w not 115w
BTW i charge my razer the opposite of how you had yours connected and it works fine lol
@@saulslowik395 the charge port for the blade can be plugged in where it's not covering the port slots??
@@InfinityLabsTech so the charge port on the razer will always cover the port slots no matter which way you plug it in??

I am kinda sad I didn't see some tf2 gameplay ;-;
what a disappointment really, and here i thought razer was doing well thermally
For me, I saw Razer as the company that made high end laptops where cost is no object. Basically a MacBook Pro with a faster GPU. I wish the Advance Model was that, and the Base Model was like a Lenovo Legion laptop with the same CNC'd aluminum build quality. I personally feel like they are falling behind, but I didn't say that in the video because I've noticed that when reviewers start to bring their personal feelings and biases too much, viewers dislike that. Decided the best conclusion is to list its weaknesses and offer an alternative that excels in those areas (just at the cost of build quality).
