Macross was my first favorite anime back in 1984, when it was robotech macross. Bought the Macross movie at 1996 anime expo on vhs. Loved it. I really have watched Do you remember Love of a 1000 times since then. I still watch it on dvd and TH-cam a lot. Genesis climber Mospeada is another favorite series.
Apart, Macross and DYRL each have their own flaws. Taken as a unit, absolute 10/10 masterpiece for the ages, and that's how I choose to receive them. Each covers for the deficits of the other. And the title song sequence of this film is the most splendiferous sequence in anime history -- I sob every time I watch it. The song, the visuals, it's just magic. Nothing's better. This is the best anime can be.

Great Reaction to a great piece of anime! Let's appreciate that this was animated by hand! As I mentioned in a comment on the series, watching the movie after the series is like watching "Saving Private Ryan" as a WW2 veteran. There will be comments like "I knew that soldier and he wasn't that brave and cool" or "If we had had that many vehicles we would have ended the war faster." The ED song is part of Mimmay's last concert on earth before embarking with the SDF2 on the first human space colonization trip, being commanded by Misa and Hikaru, talking about toxic relationships LOL
It's so interesting to watch the movie right after the tv series. So much changes, yet the core message is the same. And despite losing so much good stuff for lack of time, the three core tenets of Macross remain: Awesome sci-fi with a focus on and respect for military pilots. Music that is deeply integrated into the work and important to the outcome of the plot. And, a love triangle. That's what makes Macross. As is having a followup movies differ from their originating shows! I hope you'll continue with the series, personally if not in reaction format. The rest of the shows and movies are remarkably consistent along a fairly stable and understandable timeline and tech progression while all being their own things. And, ultimately, they all carry these inspirational themes and tenets in various proportions. Along with the cool explosions and catchy music. But whatever the case, thanks so much for digging into these starts to the franchise. Macross also has a history of being forgotten and left behind. Largely its own fault due to self-inflicted copyright and distribution troubles. It's been a lot of fun to see it covered seriously with an eye towards the relationships, art, and sci-fi.
Yak de culture! It is, as you said, a masterwork. I couldn't place it as the best or my favorite anime movie - not even within the 80s - but it remains an awesome distillation of one of the most iconic mecha series of all, and it's absolutely gorgeous to boot. While this is acknowledged as a movie in-universe, some of the material here, like the changes to the Zentradi designs and U.N. Other bits suffer, like the secondary characters, the worldbuilding and lore, Hikaru's sexism being more explicit and Roy's change to a full-blown caricature of a Japanese macho man. There's still lots of cool bits though: Kaifun being there and not Kaifuning things up; Rori, Konda and Warera volunteering to be micronized again, Roy having the heroic death that was originally planned for him before Studio Nue was forced to cut down from its initially planned number of episodes... even Kamujin makes an important cameo as the Zentran that Roy dies taking out. And best of all, Maximillian Sterling getting maximized and joining Milia in a blue Queadluun-Rau powered suit. I'll be bringing up some spoiler trivia for the SDF-1's main cast next paragraph, so if you don't want to know what happens to the main trio, don't read from here on out. Thank you so much for sharing your reactions, Tee. If you have any desire to check out any Macross titles on your own time, I know I've plugged Macross Plus before, but Super Dimension Fortress Macross: Flash Back 2012 is essentially a 30 minute collection of footage from the show and the movie, with maybe 2 or 3 minutes worth of new animation. We get to see a bit of Minmay's argument with her parents, the first in the line of a series of colonization ships, the SDF-2 Megaroad, as well as the only animated appearance of the VF1 Valkyrie's successor, the VF4 Lightning. Minmay's concert at the end of this movie is her farewell appearance in Macross City; she chose to leave Earth with Hikaru and Misa on board the SDF-2 in 2012. However, in 2016 all contact is lost with the SDF-2, the tragedy never being revealed to the public for fear of what might happen to the colonization project.. Years later, "this" movie was produced in 2031to honor their memory.
I owe Macross: Do You Remember Love a great debt of gratitude. When I was a kid growing up in the 80s, Robotech was by far my favorite show on television, and my Father loved it just as much as I did. After doing some pre-internet searching, he discovered a group of anime bootleggers that would trade various anime VHS tapes back and forth. Not only did we obtain a VHS copy of Do You Remember Love, fully subtitled, but we managed to snag many other great titles from the 80s like Dirty Pair, Vampire Hunter D, Bubblegum Crisis, Fist of the North Star, M66 Black Magic, Iczer One, Area 88, and many more. If it wasn't for the search for a copy of Macross DYRL, I wouldn't have had such an early exposure to the entire anime sub-culture at that time. It felt like being in on some epic secret that barely anyone else was aware of at the time. Do You Remember Love is one of my all-time favorite anime features, and I think it holds up to this very day.
This is my favorite story. Those bootleg days are a lot of the reason so many of the shows you listed have popped up on my OVAdrive slot. It was such a glorious golden age. If I didn't get to experience it now through the power of technology, I'd envy you deeply for living through it firsthand. As is... I get to live it AND the present AND the future... So I can't complain. I'm just glad to meet a fellow traveler on the information road :)
@Teeaboo I thoroughly enjoyed your entire Super Dimension Fortress Macross reaction videos. It was fun getting to watch someone discover this classic anime series for the very first time. I hope you are willing to watch more of the Macross franchise in the future as there are some truly excellent titles to experience (and a few not so great ones too). Deculture!!
@@Gunsight-OneWhich Macross series do you like the most? My favorite is Macross Plus. I believe that such a wonderful body of work would be impossible to produce in a diseased American society that believes that works cannot be created without a social or political theme.
@user-jg555kjl After Do You Remember Love, I would say the original series is my favorite. Follow that up with Macross Frontier, Macross Plus, and Macross Zero, in that order. I'm not a big fan of Macross Seven or Macross Delta though.
@@Gunsight-One As expected, Macross 2 is not included. That's universal and interesting. Macross has elements that are depicted throughout the series. Idols, love triangles, and settling conflicts through songs without using force. Director Kawamori has put a lot of effort into it, and the one that has been able to best realize his ideals is actually Macross 7, which has little fan support overseas. I personally don't like anything other than the character designs because the story is too outlandish. Finally, thank you for your answer.
First of all, let me say thank you from someone who has been eagerly awaiting the reactions to this film. The TV series had a variety of problems that prevented the animators from truly showing their abilities, including the following: 1……Production schedule disruptions: The show's airing schedule being moved up dealt a fatal blow to the production process. Additionally, sudden decisions to extend the season constantly disrupted and confused the production team. One noteworthy episode involved a production staff member who, unable to cope with the intense workload, abandoned the company car and disappeared. The studio received an inquiry from the police, stating that the car had been found abandoned at an intersection. 2……Use of young staff: At the top of the staff credits, you'll find the name of Hideaki Anno, whom everyone knows today. You can also find the names of young staff members who would later become active in the Japanese animation industry. Haruhiko Mikimoto, who was in charge of character design, was particularly noteworthy but was unknown at the time. His unique character designs were not well received by the veteran staff members responsible for the drawing. His designs were too intricate and deviated from the mainstream at the time, and some experienced staff members were not pleased to follow the lead of someone without much experience. 3……Decline in quality due to outsourcing: The infamous Korean Star Productions was contracted for some of the drawing work, and it was a nightmare. The characters looked nothing like they should, the animation was poor, and Japanese fans lamented the episodes they worked on as "the Star Productions episodes." The staff of the theatrical version was determined to make up for this reputation. They wanted to show that their true abilities were far greater. Thus, this film, a milestone in 80s cel animation, was born. As a hand-drawn animation, it achieved a level of perfection that has been compared to AKIRA. It's now considered an out-of-place artifact, a work that can never be replicated. I always respect your analysis, but I couldn't stop laughing at you voicing the resolution part of the protagonists' love triangle.
I remember going to see this movie at the cinema during summer holidays in junior high school. It was 40 years ago, but I still remember the impact it had on me. It's a shame that Hase Arihiro, who played Hikaru, has passed away.
Teeaboo - after the Final battle Macross returns to Earth , gets rebuilt/ preserved , new Cities are built w/ help from Zentradi and remain Meltrandi , some Zentradi stay giants, some get Micronized , Zentradi ships get used as new construction bases for new Cities. NEW Macross is built called MEGAROAD its 5x larger than SDF-1 Macross. MAX gets Zentradi sized , now flies a Meltrandi female power armor , alongside Milla Faluna . (final battle). - be sure to watch Macross flashback 2012. and Macross II OVA for more Macross lore.
Teeaboo - in DYRL shortly after Minmay wins the miss Macross pageant ,(not shown) she is made poster girl for Pilot Recruiting. Hikaru has a poster of Minmay dressed in UN spacy uniform , saluting next to a Valkyrie .
- The guy who tries to ask Minmay for an autograph at the beginning, during the attack, is Kawamori. - Kamjin is the zentradi who killed Focker. - Too bad the translation leaves a lot to be desired, but here the Zentradi and Mentrandi have names and numbers. For example, Miria is 639, giving us to understand that before there were 638 clones of Miria who died. In fact, the whole plot of the movie is based on the fact that the Zentradi and the Meltrandi are all clones of former inhabitants of the Protoculture. And upon hearing the ancient Protoculture popular song, the dormant memories of their donors awakened in them.
Pensé que ya no ibas a subir la reacción a Do you remember love, me haz alegrado el día, seguí tus reacciones a la serie y esta es la mejor despedida, gracias
Though it was released 40 years ago, it’s still a great animated movie. I fricken love it… it still makes me emotional, excited, cinematic, so well animated, and I love all of Minmay’s songs. What a treat.
Hey, I recognize Minmay's "one two" at the end there. I see you, whoever Gigguk's editor is. A lot of movies from this era seem to suffer from not having the time (or budget...) to sufficiently to explore all their ideas. Stuff that doesn't go anywhere or feels rushed or weird transitions. And there is still some of that here. But it works in a way that it normally wouldn't because of 36 episodes of precursor. I came into this with even less info than you so there's a lot of whiplash over getting an elseworlds style of story. I like a lot of the beats even compared to the original series though. It's a hell of a piece of fanservice. Not sure where you go from here but I would definitely be down for more Macross. I know many are clamoring for Mushoku though. Buuuuut before any other sort of choice I'm still here shilling for Das Finale 4. :')
Holy... just realized how influential was Macross to Hideaki Anna, the last battle of DYRL was so important to Anna that he replicated it during the final battle in Gunbuster as well as the End of Evangelion movie, even the Eva rebuilds keep expanding further into that concept Anna borrowed from DYRL. Amazing film.
Dear God, that Zero Gravity sequence in the first battle blows my mind every time I see it. All those cars and pieces of furniture and cars, rotating and moving independently, something that would HAVE to be done in CG these days. They could have got the "Gravity's Off!" idea across in a much simpler way, but someone saw it in their head, drew it, and made it happen in motion. Crazy.
Teeaboo - so in DYRL continuity the Macross never docked w/ Daedalus & Promethius in space. instead BOTH Armid space carriers survived & docked w/ Macross and became its arms in robot mode. its shown later that the Promethius and presuming the Daedalus were both Destroyed when EARTH was attacked , killing ALL life on EARTH.
The earth is a post apocalyptic wasteland, Hikaru is a "tough boy", this reminds me of Hokuto no Ken/Fist of the Northstar Hokuto no Ken 2 OP, Tough Boy by TOM★CAT "Welcome to this crazy time Kono ikare ta jidai e youkoso Kimi wa tough boy, tough boy, tough boy, tough boy Matomona yatsu hodo feel so bad Shouki de irareru nante un ga iize You, tough boy, tough boy, tough boy, tough boy" "We are living, living in the 80's, 80's, 80's We still fight, fighting in the 80's, 80's, 80's"
Actually, around that time, the Macross TV series was being criticized by anti-war people who said that it glorified war. So the movie version had more cruel images that didn't glorify it. I was a child, so I just thought, "Adults are arguing and talking about complicated things in Macross."
Teeaboo - in DYRL its confirmed that KYLE is Minmay's older brother . she Reluctantly kisses KYLE , when Breetai asks for a demonstration. Kyle is also Minmay's manager/producer.
That end bit after the 123412341234.... wasn't in the original film. Its only part of an animation collection called Macross Flashback 2012. Most of Flashback are various Minmay songs with a montage of clips from the episodes and movie. But the first and last videos are new animation. About half of which was used in the version of the Macross movie you watched.
I heavily recommend watching the intro to Macross M3. It was a videogame that has some high quality animation. Its like a sequel to the show and movie. You can find the intro on youtube. I'll try to link it below. But if I fail, its the bots....
Man, really would've loved to see this in a cinema, back in the day. That opening scene / montage alone would have been soo awesome, especially at the time. You really get the feeling that this was made for the big screen.
First time watching this, same with the show, and this was stunning! Can you imagine if the show looked like this!? I know it's not feasable but it would be beyond incredible! Especially the mechanical parts, they looked so much better. Besides the amazing visuals, I really liked this movie. There were a lot of changes from the original, but I liked pretty much everything in the movie more than the show. However I'm confident I would have different feelings if I never watched the show before, more specifically confused feelings. I feel like there is so much in this movie that relies on you already having watching the show, that I think it's unfair to just say this movie is way better. Like men and women, you need both working together for the best experience.
Teeaboo - in DYRL all of the Valkyrie fighters are Super Valkyries w/ beam weapons on one side & missile launchers on other side. also the Female Zentradi (Meltandi) spaceships are more Advanced & smaller and Female power armor is more Organic design inside.
Everything I've ever heard has claimed that the creators say that *both* the show and the movie version are in-universe productions, that the true canon for future productions is somewhere in-between when they conflict, and that applies to all macross anime releases.
Teeaboo - Ummm, in the USA the GI Joe animated Movie & Transformers come to mind. they also did my Little pony & CARE bears too (not my bag). TF did 2 seasons in the USA. but never got Scramble City (Movie prequel) , in Japan however TF did 2010 then Headmasters after Movie was released. unlike the USA however , in Japan it was customary to do a Compilation Movie as a thank you to fans of a series. for Live Action shows like Super Sentai (power rangers) & Metal Heroes series , they would release VS Movies of the outgoing series against the NEW series coming next Year.
DYRL: Men and women are fighting each other. TEEABOO: They don't remember love. They don't get it, man. BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I somehow missed this until today but it worked out great because I got to watch DYRL on the date of its 40th anniversary wide release. Yay! I would never show anyone DYRL cold. It can be enjoyed but there is so much information missing. At the very minimum, I would give a summary of episodes 1-3. There's otherwise no understanding of the ship, why it changes into a giant humanoid, why there are transforming fighter jets, why aliens are attacking, what's happened to Earth, why the ship is in deep space and taking several months to get home, etc. It's quite common for a successful anime series to have a movie made that is a retelling rather than a sequel. The in-universe aspect of "DYRL" was really only brought about because a Macross movie was "filmed" in the "Macross 7" series starring the main characters. Similarly, "Macross Zero" was filmed during "Macross Frontier". The goofy gentleman that tried to get Minmay's autograph in the shelter was Shoji Kawamori. Yes, that was Kamujin Kravshera that killed Roy. After Hikaru and Misa got blasted into space out of Britai's ship, they tried to go back in, folded with the ship but got cast off onto Earth. How convenient! Yes, that was Warera, Loli, and Konda that were the micronized Zentrans. A storyboard was created to show the union between Max & Milia plus their alliance with the humans but that did not make it into the movie but it's included in "Macross 7". The animation during the credit scene was planned but not completed by the time the movie was released in 1984. It was produced for "Flashback 2012" in 1987 and then inserted when the movie was remastered and released later. The final song "Tenshi no enogu" was written by Minmay's voice actress/singer, Mari Iijima. The movie is much smarter than the series. No transforming of the Macross back-and-forth sending everything into chaos internally repeatedly. No silly battles the Zentradi could easily win over and over for no good reason. In the first battle we see, the Macross and Zentradi ships are in blind spots of each other. The Cat's Eye recon sends coordinates to the Macross which fires into and out of Titan's atmosphere hitting the enemy target dead center. Nice. I think one of the reasons for the out-of-focus element and why some scenes have a horribly scratched appearance is because the original negatives are lost. The dark, gritty look was added in post. Existing cels look very vibrant. The Japanese subtitles are "burned" into the video and can't be removed or replaced so whatever source was used, it's not the original.
I totally disagree with the last 9 episodes. In fact, from a certain point of view, they are the most mature, because they go into a difficult terrain to tell, difficult to deal with. They are not perfect, but they didn't stay in the infantilization of the story with "and they lived happily ever after". This is one of the strongest points of the series, unlike other episodes such as the filler or recount episodes. But I guess those 9 episodes are an acquired taste, something difficult to appreciate for people who don't understand those points.
Now you need to hate watch the film "Clash of the Bionoids" which was a hacked down British English dub of this film! 😝 Thanks for doing the series; it was fun rewatching it with you. If you want to stick with the franchise, I hope you check out the Macross Plus OVAs; it's only 4 episodes so not a large time commitment. Macross Frontier is also a tribute to this series and a bit more modern, but 25 episodes and a couple of movies and specials.
As much as I love Macross Plus, you may as well also watch Macross II: Lovers Again. It's a fun watch even if it's somewhat disconnected from the rest of the series.
The story of the movie version 5 months before the movie version is told in the video in the game. th-cam.com/video/dyVwXc5KTKo/w-d-xo.htmlsi=rBctcGlCrXaOov-j
I would like to see your top 10 movie anime sometime... There is a lot of Macross materia after this BUT saddly no much worth it, the only exception would be Macross Plus OVA which is a step up on the flight and fights sequence animation quiality if you can believe it, and then Macross Zero movie which is not of my taste... but is out there in the podium. Both last songs are a banger but the Ed was cutted here, you can find a full clip on youtube, The singer is the same Minmay AV Mari Iijima became very popular around this decade in Jpn. you can find here in Spotify and ther eare a lot of performances in TH-cam, she and Hikaru's VA Arihiro Hase were only highschoolers at the time saddly he commited suicide at 31.
I am of the generation that watched this film in real time. I do not mean to be rude, but I would like to say this, Please do not equate this masterpiece, which was completed almost entirely as hand-drawn cel animation by animators in the 80's, although CG was introduced on a trial basis during the concert scene, with the later Gunbuster and others. It is extremely offensive.
This was an amazing trek down memory lane. This is one of the first anime I ever watched so nostalgia is hitting pretty hard. This movie holds a special place in my memory not the least of which was having the opportunity to see Mari Ijima sing "DO you Remember Love' live at a small local convention. She very nice singer in person too. Thank you for reacting to this. It was an epic experience for me. That out of the way. I can say this transfer is a bit off. The original, though I only watched it on a CRT TV, was quite a bit brighter and the slightly out of focus scenes were not apparent at all. On the sexism bit. I think it is so blatant because the idea of the sexes separating to the point of being at war with each other has to be shown as believable. It really shows how segregated the male and female roles have been and it is the character of Misa that is breaking the rules but showing it is possible.
Teeaboo - I found USA voice actor & singer for Macross - Minmay to be super annoying, almost unwatchable. but better in the Japanese subtitled version, and tolerable.
Let me tell you an epic tale... of The Macross... but not the tale you know, the tale that asks: "What If? (we had 5 years of prep time)" and THEN everything kicked off. (Yes, Minmay is 21 here) Armored and Super Valkyries are STANDARD. The Prometheus and Daedelus were NOT used and the "Arms" are the ARMD platforms as originally intended... [Aaaaaand GO!] 🤪 Joyriding Dateo in the Ice Rings? That's a Zero-G 360° Rainbow without a planetary horizon obscuring it. Of course there are Dual Controls .... that is a TRAINER Valkyrie. No Guns, doubled flight controls. The Space Fold accident happened when Hikaru dove back at the Jumping Flagship, they were Slingshot randomly as they passed thru the Fold Field. Honeymoon on Protoculture Atlantis? Oh yeah, they smashed. 🤘😏 1:50:00 And yes... Max has SO MUCH RIZZ that the Meltrans upsized him to put him in his own Meltran Ace Power Armor alongside his SnuSnu Waifu Millia. 🫡

mostly perfect , except for pointed ears .
I prefer DYRL TO tv series because of low quality Animation in some TV episodes.

Many of the changes in the narrative fit with the fact that in the Macross universe this is a movie, a docudrama about the first space war that serves as propaganda for the military.
Among the most notable:
- The infiltration of the micronized sentradi is never mentioned, security within the SDF would look very bad.
- Max and Mirilla meet in an Aces duel in a battle and not when she infiltrated and tried to stab him LOL
- There has never been a city devastated by the explosion of the SDF-1 experimental barrier
- Hikaru is not a simp who was put in the friend zone by Mimmay
- Hikaru is the one who acts as the spearhead in the last battle, when in truth he was almost shoot down and spent a large part of said battle looking for Misa.
-Commander Focker had a Hero's death at the hands of the enemy instead of letting himself bleed to death because he wanted some pineapple salad!!!

Thank you Teeaboo for remembering love with us.
First of all, let me say thank you from someone who has been eagerly awaiting the reactions to this film.
The TV series had a variety of problems that prevented the animators from truly showing their abilities, including the following:
1……Production schedule disruptions: The show's airing schedule being moved up dealt a fatal blow to the production process.
The characters looked nothing like they should, the animation was poor, and Japanese fans lamented the episodes they worked on as "the Star Productions episodes."
The staff of the theatrical version was determined to make up for this reputation.

- be sure to watch Macross flashback 2012.
and Macross II OVA for more Macross lore.
hell yeah, just watched Do You Remember Love recently, awsome movie, personally I like this more than the TV story
Actually from what I've heard, the later macross series followed the movie instead of the TV version? I‘d like to think this as well
Teeaboo - in DYRL shortly after Minmay wins the miss Macross pageant ,(not shown) she is made poster girl for Pilot Recruiting.
Hikaru has a poster of Minmay dressed in UN spacy uniform , saluting next to a Valkyrie .
Oh boy.. oh boy!
*goes and gets snacks
*sets the alram clock for next morning an hour later - who needs showers during home office anyway?
やっと劇場版を見てもらえて嬉しいです!!かなり前の作品ですが、今見ても見劣りしない最高の作画と演出とストーリー!
Teebooさんが思った通りのリアクションを見せてくれたので満足です!!(笑)
I was thinking the same thing at the end!
"Hold up, I've heard this One Two!"
I finally know where it's from!
Holy... just realized how influential was Macross to Hideaki Anna, the last battle of DYRL was so important to Anna that he replicated it during the final battle in Gunbuster as well as the End of Evangelion movie, even the Eva rebuilds keep expanding further into that concept Anna borrowed from DYRL.
The earth is a post apocalyptic wasteland, Hikaru is a "tough boy", this reminds me of Hokuto no Ken/Fist of the Northstar
Hokuto no Ken 2 OP, Tough Boy by TOM★CAT
"Welcome to this crazy time
Kono ikare ta jidai e youkoso
Kimi wa tough boy, tough boy, tough boy, tough boy
Matomona yatsu hodo feel so bad
Shouki de irareru nante un ga iize
You, tough boy, tough boy, tough boy, tough boy"
"We are living, living in the 80's, 80's, 80's
We still fight, fighting in the 80's, 80's, 80's"
On to Macross Plus... WHICH just got new UHD Blu-ray. going forward the DYRL designs and events are cannon.....
It seems DYRL is an answer to IDEON. DYRL claims "Even once seperated so far, we can understand each other with smiles"
(Anybody?)
Ohhh snap!!! The Journey continues!!!
Pluss and 7 next!
Hikaru with the Budweiser Missile 😂😂😂😂 always makes me laugh
I hope Tee gets to Macross Frontier someday.
Teeaboo - DYRL basic is retelling of Space War one , from Macross Inhabitants , nostalgic feel.
I can't imagine how confusing this would be if i hadn't seen the series

久しぶりに観た。おもろかったぜ
現在の多様性の押し付けから生じる争いから回帰する物語の様に思えます。
I also thnk they did the thing when they were both alone in Earth.
Teeaboo - the Alantis origin story comes into play in DYRL.
I wonder if you're gonna notice the Budweisr Missiles
Not until the sakugabooru after!
Now you need to hate watch the film "Clash of the Bionoids" which was a hacked down British English dub of this film! 😝
Thanks for doing the series; it was fun rewatching it with you. If you want to stick with the franchise, I hope you check out the Macross Plus OVAs; it's only 4 episodes so not a large time commitment. Macross Frontier is also a tribute to this series and a bit more modern, but 25 episodes and a couple of movies and specials.
I am so looking forward to your reaction of Macross Plus, OVA and Movie.
As much as I love Macross Plus, you may as well also watch Macross II: Lovers Again. It's a fun watch even if it's somewhat disconnected from the rest of the series.
The story of the movie version 5 months before the movie version is told in the video in the game.

Minmei was meant to lose Hikaru because Japanese idol culture does not allow for boyfriends.
I am of the generation that watched this film in real time.
I do not mean to be rude, but I would like to say this,
Please do not equate this masterpiece, which was completed almost entirely as hand-drawn cel animation by animators in the 80's, although CG was introduced on a trial basis during the concert scene, with the later Gunbuster and others.
It is extremely offensive.
This film is immaculate, yet as a story I prefer the original series over the movie any time of the day.
Macross Frontier did the same with its movies
Peak level anime
Can you react to armored trooper votoms
Teeaboo - I found USA voice actor & singer for Macross - Minmay to be super annoying, almost unwatchable.
but better in the Japanese subtitled version, and tolerable.
まぁ総集編っちゃあ総集編やからねw
Let me tell you an epic tale... of The Macross... but not the tale you know, the tale that asks: "What If? (we had 5 years of prep time)" and THEN everything kicked off.
(Yes, Minmay is 21 here)
Armored and Super Valkyries are STANDARD. The Prometheus and Daedelus were NOT used and the "Arms" are the ARMD platforms as originally intended...
[Aaaaaand GO!] 🤪
Joyriding Dateo in the Ice Rings? That's a Zero-G 360° Rainbow without a planetary horizon obscuring it.
Of course there are Dual Controls .... that is a TRAINER Valkyrie. No Guns, doubled flight controls.
The Space Fold accident happened when Hikaru dove back at the Jumping Flagship, they were Slingshot randomly as they passed thru the Fold Field.
Honeymoon on Protoculture Atlantis? Oh yeah, they smashed. 🤘😏
