Even after all these years, I am still impressed by the sheer insanity of the art in this movie. It's hard to imagine every frame of this was hand-drawn.

it was one few anime done in full 24 fps for the movie. if this came out in the West at the time it would sweep the awards. its shame it stayed hidden for years and still held hostage by HG
I bought the videotape a little after it was released. The animation never fades, even after so many years. It's on par with the live-action Thunderbirds marionation. It's the pinnacle of hand-drawn animation. I'm a Japanese living in Japan, and I'm happy and honored that people overseas have appreciated Macross.

マクロスシリーズはテレビシリーズは正史、映画版は作中内作品というルールができた最初の作品。映画の謳い文句が「リン・ミンメイ初主演映画！」というのだけど、実は本当にその通りという裏設定。
だから、テレビと映画で細かいストーリーが違ってても仕方ない！むしろ当然！ということらしい。
マクロス７でバサラとミレーヌでリメイクを撮影しようって話ありましたよね。
この作品にはアイダホ州出身のケント・ギルバートという日本の芸能界で活動していたことのあるタレントが声優として出演しています。所々で聞く流暢な英語はおそらく彼の声でしょう。
