  • I've gathered around a lot of screwdrivers through the years. But which ones are the best? Let's find out the pros and cons of most german screwdrivers. Which screwdrivers do you prefer?

    Any screwdriver which was manufactured in West Germany years ago is going to be the best

    Wiha for me. I started by purchasing a couple of bits made by Wiha and realised how well they fit.
    I now have a full set of Wiha.
    The Wisent you have are Wiha make.
    I must complement you on your English. That is from an Englishman.

    I have Wiha for electronic and general work and Witte for mechanical work. Most of my German screwdrivers are over 26 years old and as good as the day I bought them. If you work on Japanese motorcycles get a some Vessel JIS cross point screwdrivers so you don't chew up the heads on the screws that everyone mistakes for a phillips head.

    Hi. I think the Wisent are rebranded Wiha 3K Series Screwdrivers.

    Your Wisent screwdrivers are actually Wiha 3K series, still accessible in US no longer produced for EU.

    Nice compilation of drivers. Here in the US German tools are highly regarded but expensive. I am lucky to be able to own some Wiha , Wera , and Felo. My favorites are Wiha microfinish. That Holex looks just like a Felo model. Any thoughts on why? Thanks for sharing your collection

      Hi there!
      Thanks for the nice reply! Of course inports are always expensive. I wouldn't ever consider buying US tools because of all the import taxes and shipping. Despite the fact that you have some really nice brands like Snap On.
      Here in Germany most of the big tool comapnies are located in Remscheid. That makes it very easy to share production on those simple tools. It is common to find the exact model with a few different branded labels on them.
      Regards,
      Etna.

    I like German tools very much. Own a number of screwdriver sets from Felo, Wiha, and Wera. A few assorted Witte 'drivers, as well. Recently I acquired a bunch of hammers from Picard and Halder/Simplex. Halder dead blows are absolutely phenomenal. Best I've used. Picked up a Latthammer, as well - not common in the US. Perhaps you can do a video on German hammers in the future. I subscribed. Good luck.

      Hi, Felix!
      Thank you! But I have to disappoint you. I don't think there will be any video on hammers soon. I use old 200g and 300g Schlosserhämmer from my granddad. Nothing to write home about. And last month I picked up a Holex 500g one for 2€ at a flea market. Somehow I seem to be emotionless when it comes to hammertime.
      Regards, Etna.

    • @felixf5211
      @felixf5211 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for the kind reply. Interestingly, the 200g and 300g Schlosserhämmers are my personal favorite steel hammers. Of course I have other Schlosserhämmers ranging from 50g to 600g; the 50g is only used with a metal lathe. But, I digress. Looking forward to more videos of German tools. Good luck.

    How about Presch ? Are they comparable to Wera or Wiha ? I wonder, is the handle of Wera, molded 3 compound, sensitive to oil and gasoline?. So if I have to work with cars and motors, better choose hard plastic models, like Bahco Ergo or similar...

    • @Etna.
      @Etna.  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi there!
      I never came across Presch. Judging by pictures I would be carefull ordering some because they mark them like typical cheap hardware store brands. But you have to try them yourself to really judge them.
      In an oily environment I would only use wooden handles without any finish. Yes, they will always look dirty but your handles will never get eaten away by any solvents and you always have a sturdy grip, even with oily hands. Next best thing would be indeed an older style handle like Wiha Classic Series handles. But they slip easily.
      I hope that helps!
      Regards,
      Etna.

    My favorite screwdrivers are the 'LUX' ones from OBI. My father has had a set for decades. You can still buy them and they look almost the same. Now the grips have a different color (but still say 'West Germany') and sadly the shaft is round instead of hexagonal. Probably they are mabe by Wera, the shape is pretty similar to their 'Kraftform' screwdrivers. Old Wiha screwdrivers with the clear handles are also great.

    • @Etna.
      @Etna.  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      LUX/OBI might had nice tools back in the days, especially when it was labeled with West Germany. I haven't had any tool that was bad from that era. But today I would rather burn them than try to work with them.

      Weird that a lot of people recommend PB Swiss. I tried their electrical line of screwdrivers and their blade behaves like rubber and the blueing is very spotty. Not really tools I like to have. Maybe I try their acetate handle version as Wiha discontinued their classic line.
