As far as we know, Boo will be separated from Minsc in the story. Since Boo is his source of power, he needs to be removed in order for the tadpole to take his place during this short fiasco. ✌️
The trailer made it seem like we would be meeting him just as he was un-petrified, so I had no idea so many things happened to him since. I definitely think your tadpole theory is how they will make him playable.
Story wise, Minsc has been unpatrified for several years now. Gone on many adventures with new allies and fought a bunch of different things, BUT the last thing he did was fighting a bunch of mind flayres, and in that scenario both he and his companions were captured! I believe this is where we start our journey with Minsc. They were setting him up to be implanted with a tadpole just at the very end of that story arc, he's quite possibly on the same Nautiloid as we are. We should possibly have access to him in Act 1 as well, this is potentially confirmed/supported by voice lines that were added a few patches ago. 👍

Helia I think her name is, a werewolf was also reportedly supposed to be in this game several months ago like Minsc, who would also have a tadpole. We also would have to consider that everyone else in his party would also be tadpole infected too but we haven't heard anything about them. So until we know for sure whether or not that whole event is canon in game, we won't know what to expect. What if Minsc isn't infected? Then that comic and possibly the rest since he woke up might not be canon lore all of a sudden. We'll have to see what Wizards of the Coast has decided to let Larian put into their game, since going forward that WILL be canon.
Yeah you have to rescue minsc from being controlled by the cult with the tadpole. he then says "MINSC ONLY TAKES ORDERS FROM ONE TINY CREATURE! AND HE IS MUCH CUTER THAN ANY MIND MAGGOT!" Also, Shadowheart, Lazel and Astarion can all have significant character development based on your choices you can be a good influence on them.
Evil meet my sword, Sword MEET EVIL!!! If you correlate memories to experience, I don't think he should get his memories back at all if he's going to be a main playable companion. The guy would be way too powerful to be with our BG3 party (who I think are going to get to max level between 10 and 12 or something like that). We're talking about a guy who has fought Liches, Dragons, Irenicus, Bhaalspawn, took out a whole nest of Illithids in the underdark, his comic adventers, etc. The guy has been fighting pretty high level threats for a long time and is a legend kind of like Drizzt (who I believe is like a level 19 character in canon, but I'd probably put him a bit above minsc). Idk, I just imagine Minsc being more like in the level 15-20 range, not the 5-10 range. I definitely want to see him in the game, but I don't know how I feel about him becoming a mainstay playable companion, more like a part time companion that is there for like a super hard fight or something and he saves your ass. Either way, Larian is awesome and I'm sure I'll like whatever they end up doing with him

I really needed this! Having not played BG1, I only imagined Minsc as Lenny from Of Mice & Men with a weird hamster fetish. Couldn't understand why anyone was excited to have him return.

Couldn't be the River Styx, in Greek mythology the River Styx makes your skin impenetrable. The River Lethe is the one that erases your memory.
That is how it works in classical mythology but in D&D Lethe has been fused into Styx. There is no Lethe in the Lower Planes in D&D.
