I just discovered your channel and only watched half of this video plus skimmed through a few others over your videos and I can already say you're the best DND lore TH-camr out there. I'm a DND lore but have been watching channels like mighty glue stick, DM Scotty, Jordan, ECT and I always fantasized finding a channel like yours. Either videos have great visuals that match what is being said but are only 5 to 10 minutes long. Not going into great detail. Or they will be detailed 30 minute videos with just showing the first Page or search results on Google images. This channel is going to grow massive
Wow! Thank you for saying such kind things! I do not know that I deserve that level praise just yet, but the words sure are motivating! :) I try to make every video better than the last and while that is not always the outcome, its a good principle to work under. @erbgorre Abdel is Canon. He's a Grand Duke of Baldur's Gate (and one of two remaining Bhaal-Spawn) in the official encounter adventure "Murder in Baldur's Gate" by WotC.
Beautiful rendition of the story Rich. I appreciated the thought put into it, your lively language, and visual description! Also really enjoy how you linger twords his Bhall heritage as you go with his inhuman agility and fighting prowess.
I remember watching my dad play bdg 1 when I was little. Soon after I found his collection on second edition books. I’ve been I love with storytelling ever since.
Greyhawk was better. Forgotten Realms, and 2nd Eddition in general were rife with player characters being elevated to "godhood" status; as TSR made the move to "un-Gygax" D&D.
Sam, although Dungeons and Dragons Online, the same ne set in Eberron, gave that realm a special place in my heart. Back when DDO first released, oh boy, having a mix of MMO but that was narrated by a DM, it was such a fun time in my gaming history.
A blast from the past! Bringing back many good memories from teenage years playing the whole series. Hooked me so bad I read almost entire forgotten realms book series. Wonderful video. Was great to hear this story again. Will be watching the rest of the series as time allows.
You sure brought back some great memories. When this game first came out in the 90's, it reminded me of my younger DnD playing days with childhood friends. Became an instant fan and went on to play all those early titles, BD2 , the ice Wind Dale series and later the Neverwinter Nights. Good Job!
Right? I grabbed the novelization on audible but it just felt really off. I guess the official canonization of the story has been updated in the years since the original was released.
Man I missed out on the OG dragon age games but Origins was bloody incredible. So unique to me at the time can’t believe I slept on the predecessors. How did it stack up to the originals for a vet?
Every 2-3 years, I play Baldurs Gate 1 and 2. I start over, so I can follow my character from level 1 to well above 30. I love these games, and the expansions just gives a bit more flavor. BG 2 is my favourite game of all time. Now I will go play them again from level 1
@ndk0 Are you familiar with all the mods from Weidu and Ascension? I'm sure you are, as a true fan, but if not, I encourage you to check them out. They add so much to an already wonderful game without disrupting the atmosphere or lore of the original. Ascension is created by the original developers as a labor of love.
I did that for a long time, then stopped about 5 years or so because I played them so much I felt like I killed it. Then I played them again a few weeks ago from the beginning... and they're still great. Almost done with Throne of Bhaal.
This is some of the best content on TH-cam. And while I am sure the workload is a massive undertaking I’d LOVE to see you tackle the expansions and BG2 as well.

I’ve burned through all your videos in about 3 days and now I’m starving for content lol. As someone who knows little about dnd and hasn’t played it ( but I intend to soon when life allows) I can freely say I don’t mind what videos you make. Hell, heavens, fey wild, intricate details about magic , different gods, areas of faerûn, how magic items are made, evil cults, elemental planes, cities, I don’t mind. I will watch anything because I know you’ll do it justice.
Well there's 4 or 5 decades worth of writing he can draw from... I grew up with this stuff. It's pretty interesting. With the right group of people, it's an awesome backdrop to run campaigns with. And when you make your character, don't fret too much at the beginning. We all start off weak AF. Don't spend too much time worrying about it.
Thorough as always! I had been waiting for your next submission, and it definitely did not disappoint. It is obvious how much time and effort you invest into each video!
Just an idea - you could also videos on specific quest lines or locations in the baldurs gate universe, for example I’d love for you to do a video on Durlag’s Tower. Also, individual characters like Minsc, Jon Irenicus, etc. I love your baldurs gate content. I have played the games but I am not familiar with the larger DnD universe. So, your content that goes through the game stuff and ties it into the larger world is very helpful and satisfying - it touches my nostalgia for these games but also educates me about their origins and larger connections.

I never comment on lore videos. I must say I've been following your lore videos from day one. I'm running Decent into Avernus and your videos on the Hells have inspired me. The great story art in my eyes is some of the best I've seen. Riley Tome Keeper : ) is great! Your lore videos on the lich are equally impressive. This is why I think you would do an impressive video on two liches that don't get much love in D&D lore. One is Szass Tam who got some recognition from the "Honor Amongest Thieves" D&D movie. I've seen very few videos of him and the ones that I have maybe one is good. The other is a Netherness lich Larloch. This one you might find interesting. Both are from the Forgotten Realms setting. With your in-depth reacher and eye for detail. I think you would knock it out of the park! Keep up the good work it hasn't gone unnoticed!! Now on to this Baldur's Gate lore!
A story better than the book(s) can't wait to see what sell you have coming.. . will check out rest of your content... if it's half as good... My sub is already yours.
Please, please, please do the other ones in the series. Icewind Dale series, too. And maybe Planescape Torment. The stuff you put out!!! You are awesome Rich!!!!
Its pretty obvious that Abdel lost the final confrontation with his half brother Veikang that cost him his life. In Throne of Bhaal Abdel gave up his devinity to become a regular mortal meaning his connection with Bhaal was severed, he lost all his devine essence and Bhaalspawn powers like Imoen, it also becomes paifully clear that he lost his ability to become rhe slayer as whell. So that ambiguity of who lost the final confrontation makes little sence as its pretty obvious Abdel Adrian was defeated by Veikang who became the Slayer and was killed by the flaming fist. What i find weird is why Veikang confronted Abdel at all, because when Abdel gave up his devinity Veikang was the absolute last Bhaalspawn remaining
My only problem with that theory is. A. He was over 120 years old at time of his death and still capable of CQC with the skill of a veteran adventure of the era. (7th level fighter). B. Bhaal was resurrected by the final joining of his essence within Veikang. Both suggesting that some sliver of divine power was still within him at time of death.
I'm not a gamer but enjoy the stories, lore and artwork. There's a audiobook, Baldurs Gate but its slightly different. I would like to hear this version but this cool too. Thanks
HOLY F%#@! WOW! Coming across this, SO GLAD, I klicked on it! I find myself binging the entire Playlist of Baldur's Gate Lore, while I'm cooking Thanksgiving Dinner myself this year! MORE than earned my New Sub!
So i randomly came across this video, have never played DnD but have mainly played other RPG's After watching some videos explaining the different races/classes and gods. I have to say this is very interesting :) looking forward to watching your series/ videos about this world!!
Great work! This one must have taken some serious blood sweat and tears. Thanks for a truly epic video. The art work was amazing as always. The voice work the best of any of your videos. Can't wait for the next one. It has been a great journey watching your channel grow from the first day till now. Looking forward to seeing it continue grow and thrive.
Thank you sir, really appreciate the continued support. The stories really take a lot longer than the - already long - lore videos, so the kind words are very encouraging.
Clarification... you are correct, strange that there are a few sources that have this confused, but the Friendly Arm Inn is actually approximately 124km to the North. Thank you for the clarification and note made for any future references.
@@RichesandLiches Then i would ask your source. as the in game map has it north of candlekeep, I believe that is how far south of the city of baulders gate. The friendly arm inn is. My source is the in game map and the map from the fandon wiki. "The Friendly Arm. It is found along the Coast Way between the city of Baldur's Gate and Beregost. "
@@nicolasmunoz2264 agreed. I feel like it's kind of wrong and deceptive for the creator to accept praise for collecting fan art and not point out or correct them to let them know that it's not fan art, and was AI generated. There's nothing wrong with using Midjourney or Dall-E to bring a story to life for others, but misleading people into believing that it's fan art is dishonest imo.
As a huge fan of Forgotten Realms and a D&D player and one who has read the novel series and played all the Baldur’s Gate games from PC to video game consoles you did a great job of retelling this epic story that I find on par with lord of the rings.👍🏼👍🏼💯
I looked at balder’s gate 3 and decided to start from the first game. I’m on chapter 5 of first game and I’m loving it. I had no idea open world rpg existed that long ago
I found that Steam had a D&D sale and got BG1&2 EE, IWDEE, PTEE for like $30 bucks. I remember beating the 1 game when i was younger but never got to try the other so now I'm running trough them before I get BG3.
This was an amazing video, overview! Played this game years ago, missed some of this lore. I hope these keep coming and I'll cross my fingers you might take a look at Icewind Dale!
Great video, all the lore i needed not having played baldurs gate in many years, it really made the game and the story great, knowing the story but not remembering all the details in your retelling really made me wanna play again, thanks. And keep it up 😊 sometimes you May have rushed a little, speaking a little to fast, not letting the story sink in all the Way, take your time ill Watch the video no matter how Long it is when the story and storyteller is this compelling
Thank you for the kind words and honest feedback. The video is coming up on a year old and I have learned a lot since then. I do not think anything you said was wrong and I believe my cadence has improved since.
As someone who just finished bg3. I was delighted to hear this fantastic story about bg1. Especially since Jaheira and Khalid was among the main party. And Sarevok too, no wonder he bears deep grudge to Jaheira and the harpers. I'm new to the lore of dnd and baldur's gate and I may not have the time to play the previous iterations so I appreciate this storytelling coupled with good voice acting. It was fun to listen to. Now I'm off to find the next chapter.
Unfortunately, Khalid is not in BG3, he had passed away long before the events of the game. You may be referring to Jaheira's close friend Minsc, though.
@@RobThePrincess he was not there in the flesh but he was introduced to me once I came to Jaheira's secret hideout. She even got his scimitar back that had a short mention on one of the books there.
I'm on my second playthrough in BG3, it's an amazing RPG, can be considered among the pantheons of greatest games of all time. So I knew I couldn't dedicate the time to play BG1 and 2, hence this video is just what I need.
This is amazing thank you looking forward to bg2 and expansions stories. I know it's not your usual video but if you're a morrowind fan then a vid of the morrowind stories in this style would be crazy good. Subbed for dnd content.
Image credit attributed in the videos but the vast majority of the art I own the rights to. I have a commercial license to create and own. If you have a specific image you'd like, feel free to shoot me an email and I would be happy to send you the HD of it (include specifics including video and timestamp so I can locate it for you). richesandliches@gmail.com
I am confused at so few of mention of characters are you saying only those: Abdel, Imoen, Jaheria & her husband are the only cannon ones even though Misc & Boo were in BG3 as well Jaheria?
No, I am most definitely NOT saying that. I am not sure if you have played the game or not, but many of the characters are optional, but to your point, most did pickup Minsc and his space hamster. :) However, to write a story that included all the characters would have taken three times more than the 70+ hours I had already spent. I plan to do a BG2 and then a BG3 and will try to improve the narrative and character roster. My apologies if you did not enjoy... I will keep working to improve and appreciate your feedback.
Really good storytelling, although some things are not canon (you can hardly defeat Sarevok on your own e.g., because of his other goons present), but hey, most things seem canon, and you slowly build tension of storytelling, while also creating temporary release now and then, in what seems a very natural way. It is sad though that you mention nothing of Minsc or Dynaheir, who also belong to the canon party of BG1. Would have been nice with fleeting mention of a few other possible party members, Abdel either declining their offers, or only keeping them in the party for a short while, so as to not make the story far too long.
You are not wrong... I was trying to stay true to my first playthrough memories from so many years ago, but the story would have been enhanced by adding both. You can fully expect a more "creative" telling with Minsc included in the BG 2 story that is in the works.
Baldurs Gate 3 has introduced me to such a vast world full of lore and history. I never played the actual physical game but this is my new obsession. I loved the games mechanics, history and lore. I want more. This is literally so good. I cannot wait for this game to be made a show or movie. Literally the new game of thrones

With your in-depth reacher and eye for detail. I think you would knock it out of the park! Keep up the good work it hasn't gone unnoticed!! Now on to this Baldur's Gate lore!
I have Szass Tam on my roadmap and just wrote down Larloch (The Shadow King)... so they will be coming.
When you say you never comment its like your saying he should be thankful that you commented on his video lol
You know I love those games as much as you do... I will get there eventually! Thanks for watching, the super kind words and your patience! :)
I like your story better than the dish we got in BG1 back then! Please, make a video game about it.
Fantastic combination of story and art! Please MOAR!!!
I am hard at work on content, i promise! :)
Thank you for the kind words.
I'm doing my first BG run through because of this video and let me just say, thank you!! Even in 2024 this story and game are amazing 🔥
Absolute perfection storytelling. Thank you.
No... thank you. This channel exists because of this awesome community!
So i randomly came across this video, have never played DnD but have mainly played other RPG's
After watching some videos explaining the different races/classes and gods.
I have to say this is very interesting :) looking forward to watching your series/ videos about this world!!
Epic! Subscribed! I love things like this. Great job!
Love the long stories keep em coming.
Local ward can’t stop reading other people’s mail
“No end in sight” claims a witness on the scene.
Thank you so much for making such an amazing video for the fan base!!!
This fan art made me realize Abdel is very " Bane" like. (Vise versa)
Meanwhile Dynaheir still chilling in the gnoll camp waiting for someone to come and rescue her...
I really wanted to take her again this run but decided to give xan a chance
@6:46 point of order, i am sure the friendly arm inn was north of candlekeep. it was nashkell to the south. as i recall the in game map at any rate.
The forgotten realms was excellent, but I truly miss Grayhawk and Gord the Rogue
Brilliant work!! I have been looking for a D&D channel to inspire .......found.
Awesome work collecting fan art and narrating ! Really liked this style of story telling
More to come! Thank you for the kind words!
is not fan art collection is Ai Art, big diference, i like the storytelling thou
This is almost entirely generative AI art. Sorry, can't support that bullshit. I like your storytelling, and I appreciate the format, though.
Fan art or AI art, I am here for it!
As a huge fan of Forgotten Realms and a D&D player and one who has read the novel series and played all the Baldur’s Gate games from PC to video game consoles you did a great job of retelling this epic story that I find on par with lord of the rings.👍🏼👍🏼💯
What are the novels called if you don’t mind?
@ BG is the name of the novels they are paper backs now quite old👍🏼👍🏼💯
I looked at balder’s gate 3 and decided to start from the first game.
I played these new i was a young freshmen dang im getting old ❤your vids
Today you have earned a new patron... Thank you for your service...
Wow... thank you my friend. I really appreciate the support. Makes these 80 hour weeks worth it.
@@RichesandLiches You are velcome
This was an amazing video, overview!
Played this game years ago, missed some of this lore.
I hope these keep coming and I'll cross my fingers you might take a look at Icewind Dale!
I can't promise it will be soon... but I definitely have it on my roadmap, great games! They hold a special place in my memory. :)
I can't think about this game without hearing:
"I stand ready!"
"I am gone."
and of course
"Heyya, it's me, Imoen."
Just found the channel and I’m loving it! Keep it up!
Welcome! Thank you for the time and kind words!
Dude this was awesome. Thank you
Great video, all the lore i needed not having played baldurs gate in many years, it really made the game and the story great, knowing the story but not remembering all the details in your retelling really made me wanna play again, thanks. And keep it up 😊
sometimes you May have rushed a little, speaking a little to fast, not letting the story sink in all the Way, take your time ill Watch the video no matter how Long it is when the story and storyteller is this compelling
Thank you for the kind words and honest feedback. The video is coming up on a year old and I have learned a lot since then. I do not think anything you said was wrong and I believe my cadence has improved since.
Cant wait for baldurs gate 2 story video
I will say that the stakes have risen quite a bit since BG1. The price of iron isn't that big of a deal.
Larian did Sarevok and Viconia dirty in BG3
Liked, subbed, commented, give me the next one!! Notification is on! Well done 👏
I'm getting huge waves of nostalgia
I'm on my second playthrough in BG3, it's an amazing RPG, can be considered among the pantheons of greatest games of all time. So I knew I couldn't dedicate the time to play BG1 and 2, hence this video is just what I need.
This is amazing thank you looking forward to bg2 and expansions stories. I know it's not your usual video but if you're a morrowind fan then a vid of the morrowind stories in this style would be crazy good. Subbed for dnd content.
"Your quest is VAIN!!!!!!!" Anybody that has played the first one will know.
"We're all doooomed!!!"
The bustle of the city makes me feel...insignificant.
"Go for the eyes Boo... go for the eyes!!"
Abdel a human? Says you! Mine was Dyl Lannson the Gnome
I really enjoyed this. Thank you.
>Gorion's ward
>Not a dual-katana wielding human chainsaw kensai/mage
You had one job lol. I'm kidding, of course.
Kensai/Wizard makes quite some sense!
Do you have a link/credit for the art you use? It is amazing and I’d love some of them as wallpapers
Image credit attributed in the videos but the vast majority of the art I own the rights to. I have a commercial license to create and own. I have HD image packs on my patreon, but I also post images in the community tab for all.
If you have a specific image you'd like, feel free to shoot me an email and I would be happy to send you the HD of it (include specifics including video and timestamp so I can locate it for you).

However, to write a story that included all the characters would have taken three times more than the 70+ hours I had already spent.
I plan to do a BG2 and then a BG3 and will try to improve the narrative and character roster.
My apologies if you did not enjoy... I will keep working to improve and appreciate your feedback.
@RichesandLiches definitely played yes hence why I mentioned. Though optional you included not even a single optional one. Still enjoyed though.
Great job! Classic game! Keep up the awesome content!
Thanks! Will do!
I love the visuals for this video everyone looks so pretty
oh the trance like state .. this is gonna be good
Where can one find the art work that you’re referencing in the video? :)
Appears to all be ai generated art
Baldurs Gate 3 has introduced me to such a vast world full of lore and history. I never played the actual physical game but this is my new obsession. I loved the games mechanics, history and lore. I want more. This is literally so good. I cannot wait for this game to be made a show or movie. Literally the new game of thrones
Super kind of you to say, thank you so much for taking the time to watch and comment. I do have BG2 and BG3 on my roadmap and hope to have them complete sooner rather than later :)
Well seems auto play gave me some good content for once. Fantastic video bud. Made my day at work a breeze.
Thank you for watching and commenting!
Excellent rendition of the books, quite lively 👏🏻
