- 14 Years ago, TaleWorlds released the Original Mount and Blade for PC, letting players siege castles, battle against lords and capture serfs to the tune of Swadian Hall for the very first time!
And what better time to come back to the very BASICS than now, with the full official release of Mount and Blade Bannerlord having been set for October 25, 2022!
In this video, Koifish returns and re-experiences one of the games that started his TH-cam adventure! Even older than Mount and Blade Warband, and way older than Bannerlord, Mount and Blade stands as a time capsule of a simpler time!

BANNERLORD UPDATES broke my gosh darn save for the Viking series, but I'm trying to figure out a way to restore it!
But expect more *BANNERLORD* Adventures very soon!

Absolutely maddening how the gameplay loop is IDENTICAL to Bannerlord's.
They polished it, added minimal stuff and called it Warband.
If it's not broken, don't fix it. 🤷♂

I remember a Finnish gaming magazine saying that the graphics were lacking but it was compensated with soul and depth. I think they called it groundbreaking in game design. Just watch how many games adapted the fighting system alone: War of the Roses, Chivalry, Mordhau and KCD to a degree.

I remember being 14 and spamming swadian knight armies and raiding small armies by just charging like a bull on them... So many great memories

I played original M&B longer than Warband
so many memories..
I had M&B downloaded by my uncle on a PC, played it until probably 2015 from about when it released in 2008.

I played the shitty Warband demo longer than I played Warband ahh the good old days
Oh man, I totally forgot about the night ambush mechanic! It scaled based on level, so you could (and would) get ambushed by more than 100 dudes on the way to the bar
I remember accidentally cheating past level 62 and coming across 6000+ bandits infesting a village, PC didnt handle it very well 😆

Realistically you'll only reach lvl 40-45 with how the exp grind scales and at currently lvl 40 I get maybe 8 at most, usually just 3-4. It does probably scale a lot above that but that's only accessible with cheats. By the time you'd get there legit you'd have the whole Calradia solo conquered already.
If there isn't anything about how broken spear/lance weapons are in this, I'm gonna riot.
Okay so because he doesn't cover it, let me explain. ALL polearms in the original game can do couched lance damage, and not only that, but only have a cooldown of around one second. Polearms are BROKEN.

@@carlosdelsol76 nah banner lord you have to couch them manually and they have a much longer cooldown/anim cycle. Original M&B polearms were so busted you could take out entire armies on your own

That's also how it works in real life. Spear and lance are basically one thing. Long stick with spiky sharp thing in one or both side.
It's good to attack while maintaining your distance from your enemy.
I remember playing this game and thinking: Why can't I become a king? And wouldn't you know it, M&B Warband came. Ah, good times.
I remember when demo had only Zendar and two cities. Black khergits were absolutely terryfying. Also when armours got metallic shine was heavenly.
Only two factions as well, the Swadians or the Vaegirs. And don't get me started on Dark Knights.
I remember the amazement when they added Heraldic shields. Then Heraldic armours 🥵

The fact it looks so similar to warband lmao. I was expecting more of a visual difference even though the gap between Original and Warband wasn't as big as Warband and Bannerlord by a large margin but still.
Warband is just warband with official fox and Sarranids dlc.
As a Swede and og M&B fan myself, I must say... Bruh, this was way funnier than I expected, and such a nostalgia kick. Well jobbat!
The original Mount and Blade had some cool mods, like the WW2 in China and the Russian Civil War.
Sword Of Damocles, The Wedding Dance... so many exclusive great mods for the original M&B
I remember when it was the only one with the single player star wars mod before it was made in Warband so many years later
Hyborian Age mod, Berserk mod
I first found this game back when "CD rentals" were around, and it was in a particularly dingy rental. Had a blast with it and I remember loving the Mongol mod. I was really happy when I got Warband and finding out that my Intel Pentium 4 could run it. I had also been eyeing all the juicy mods next door, so you can just imagine my joy.
Your videos on Warband were my entry to the world of Mount & Blade.
It was janky, it was clanky and I loved every goofy minute of it.

The Mount & Blade franchise is honestly one of the best and underrated games ever made in my lifetime. Simple but fun Medieval RPG. Addicting gameplay. Hilarious meme community. Outstanding Mod Community. I could play these games and mods for hours and not get bored.

I remember I was like 10 when I somehow found this game on youtube, installed the demo and started playing. Then my mom uninstalled it, the reason being I was installing viruses on the pc(by dragging the desktop icon into the recycle bin, but I thought my game was gone forever). Afterwards, trough tears of sorrow for the game I somehow found warband, and have been playing it continuously till the release of Bannerlord.

I used to play the demo only, because I had no internet back then, which you needed for the full version. The demo allways stops when gaining a level, so I had to restart it over and over.
I actually really like these graphics, especially the texutres of the environment
Also the movement was more fun than bannerlord
This really made me laugh something fierce, definitely interesting going back and seeing how it was before, remembering the clunky and goofy animations

The cattle driving only sucks when you’re doing it for a Marshall during war. SOB always moves or his siege breaks or the entire enemy faction shows up and lords/cattle split before you can complete.

Something about this map makes me nostalgic. I remember playing the demo version back in the day, getting my ass kicked but still having a blast. Warband is superior in every way, but the OG Mount and Blade will always have a place in my heart.

i was a kid when i first played the 0.7 there where 2 factions (Swadia and Vaegir) 2 mayor towns and a few... locations like a mine entrance and hay fields, Only two companions Borcha and Marnid, good old times xD
