Thanks for the informative video! I am currently car shopping and considering a Volvo XC40 all electric model. One of my biggest concerns is the suede seats. I’ve always opted for all leather (or imitation leather) for my car interiors because I feel like it’s more stain resistant and generally holds up better.
How do you like your suede seats? Do they still look good after a few years of use?

Interesting, thank you, I put a like on your video, even though I have not experienced any of these issues after 6 months with my D3, AWD manual gear, inscription XC40. Although I really like my car and I do not regret my choice, I have experienced other issues, such as 1) slow to pickup in low gears (1-3), 2) vocal assistant is not good, 3) incorporated navigation system does not consider the traffic level, 4) no backseat lights. Overall I am still very happy with the car, thank you Volvo.

    • @thom-lov
      @thom-lov  3 ปีที่แล้ว

Thanks for the remarks Davide! The vocal assistant sounds familiar, I barely used it due to the 'poor' performance of it. The incorporated navigation system does have a RTI (real time traffic info) function, perhaps it is included in the Volvo On Call subscription (not sure though)? Regarding the backseat lights, I do have them at the passenger door sills. It is part of the 'light pack 2' in the Netherlands, so there is a possibility for it. :-) Regards!

I have a 2020 XC40 Inscription. I turned off the stop-start the first day I got the car and it's been off ever since.

Hi Thom, Ive got a D3 R-Design, no camera but know what you mean, my old Mercedes C series camera was always getting dirty, small pain. Interesting remarks about your arm rest and agree that is a bit poor from Volvo, I will need to keep an eye on that. I have a black carpet but love the Lava.
I love the XC40, but one thing I think I would have liked is a stalk to control the screen somewhere, something I miss coming from the Mercedes, its fiddly to change anything whilst driving and the menu on the steering wheel does not quite give you enough options. Otherwise a great car.

I have the T3 auto and the main thing that annoys me is when you slow down towards the end of a road or a roundabout and don’t fully stop, I find it takes a while to find the right gear to get going again and accelerate. I have XC40 H5 2023 black color, black leather inside.
There are no problems at all, the only thing I have is the parking button that doesn’t work the first time if it not to strong to push, even when this happened the first time I drove forward, it’s good that there was nothing ahead and I instantly adjusted, now I look at it very carefully and plus the trunk does not always react to opening it with my foot , well, sometimes the navigator doesn’t work, but very rarely, in general I don’t think that this is a problems.

    • @thom-lov
      @thom-lov  3 ปีที่แล้ว

Thank you! Yes, the B4 is a very good engine for overall use. Plenty of power, yet efficient. And also important, available for somewhat of a 'descent' price. I would also look at the T6 Twin Engine, a bit more of a cost when purchasing. But many countries have tax incentives and such for plug in hybrid cars, which could make a T6 TE more interesting over the B4. Regards!

I agree about the rear camera position,, although I find it gets obscured by big dangling water drops on the tailgate. My XC40 doesnt have the start-stop issue, so they must have changed it. I do find the DAB/USB media annoying to use. It's track listing'/playing default is alphabetical by artist,, not by album. So you can find a Beethoven symphony is interrupted by a Beatles track.
The text in the 12" display is tiny! and the sat nav map isnt exactly HD. The point of interest search is as bad as Mercedes.
Finally, the flapdrols had deleted rear folding headrests when mine was delivered. You can't fold the rear seats without moving the front seats forward first to accommodate the extra inches from the rear headrests. Fortunately I have memory seats.
All that being said, I love it. I have the same external silver as yours, but I went for the Red Oxide leather, which is gorgeous.
I upgraded to the fancy electronic driver aids pack, and wouldn't be without them. Pretty sure they saved my licence last month! :)

I've had my VW Tiguan 1.5 petrol DSG for just over one year. I need to turn off the on/off manually every time I drive the car but luckily it's a button on the centre console so it's dead simple, and if I forget, it's easy to do at the first set of traffic lights. I also need to turn off the lane assist every time because I hate it but I can do that using the buttons on the steering wheel or through the main screen. I think these are built-in default economy and safety features. No problem. I chose a black leather interior and even kept the protective plastic on the door treads because I'm like that. The first annual service was basically an oil change and new filters. $250 approx at the main dealer. The car looks and drives like new, not like your half worn-out Volvo!

Make it in the O of Volvo or on the wiper like the Porsche Macan. The armrest thing must be a Volvo thing. My xc60 is exactly the same and replacing it yourself is a pain in the butt.

There are aftermarket cushions for the centre armrest area, so you are not wearing down the actual armrest. The rear camera placement is a safety issue, Volvo put it low down to ensure that you could see even smaller children when reversing. The downside to that is that it is closer to the road, so it does get dirty often.

Yes I have! The Recharge Full Electric is a great ride. Just bear in mind that the WLTP range is not a realistic figure and strongly depends on driving style, weather etc. If you don't want to be depending on E-range only, I would recommend the T5 Recharge which, if you can charge at home and work etc., will also offer plenty of E-range. Suggest to test them both though and also consider what is currently more suitable for your 'lifestyle'. Hope this helps, if any questions let me know! 😁

@@thom-lov the full electric has not arrived yet here in Malaysia. So I’ve tested both the AWD T5 and T5 Recharge. T5 felt a bit floaty but strangely heavier on the wheel. I love how the Recharge felt super smooth and light when I drove. Since I’ll be using it mostly for driving in the city and to work, I think T5 Recharge would be better than T5 in the long run. But again, it’s very much depending on one’s driving style and it’s a front-wheel drive. Another concern I would have if I choose the T5 Recharge is, the performance going up a hill with 5 people onboard. Will it be too much for the 3-cylinder turbo petrol engine with 7-speed Dual Clutch transmission? Thanks in advance! 🙌🏻

Lets hope the EV gets there soon too! Im pretty sure the T5 Recharge will manage easily getting 5 passengers up a hill. Either way, you'll have a great car. Cheers,

A real thing I’d like to see is rear storage. I have a Mazda CX-30 now, and I’m going to trade it for “other” small suv when I take it in Weds. for regular oil change (free!)
Because friends picked up my wife and I for dinner last month. We took their Kia Sportage. We sat in the back with PLENTY of leg room. We have to put down a seat to fit suitcases in the rear when we go on a trip. They have enough room for four full size suitcases!
I’m jealous. And they cost the same, just under $30k for a used 2020 or ‘21. Our car’s in excellent condition, a ‘22, with 20k miles, KBB Price around $22k. I’m either getting a used, 1-owner:
    XC-40
    Sportage
    C-5 Mazda
    Hyundai Tuscon
    Ford Bronco
I’m surprised there’s a Volvo in that price range (under $30k), and excited af, too. I think a dealership will nickel and dime me to death until that $28k goes over $30k for sure, for the Volvo xx-40 momentum, while Kia will give me a lifetime powertrain warranty + a free oil change without going over 30k
I’ll let you know what happens in the next few years, unless I die of old age 1st, a distinct possibility. :-). No worries-death might be the fun part! Nobody knows & im cool with that•

The development is in Sweden it is producedin the Belgian Ghent. If the buyers hadnˇt bought Volvo from the Americans, it would probably have gone bankrupt. Many developers from all over the world are involved in the development. Donˇt notice the Chinese, they canˇt make a car.

Stop-start is a is useless and annoying gimmick. Every one I know that has a new car hates it and turns it off. It’s a cheep and deceiving way for car manufacturers to publish better mpg numbers.

Most car that are not more than 10 years old have this feature, and most people leave it on, just need to stand near a red light to realize that.
When well implemented it's not really noticeable and does make you save some gas

@@tiloalo That’s all well and good for some but not for others. The point being there should be a choice, a way to turn it off to where it doesn’t come on as a default every time you get in and start the car. And it is annoying as hell especially in slow moving stop and go traffic.

@@Crazyuncle1 it's forbidden by law to make this feature deactivable, since in most countries you pay according to the amount of CO2 emitted by the car, and if you turn it off, you should pay more.
Just like you cannot deactivate any of the filtering/gas recycling feature.
Of course on most car you can deactivate it by simply unplugging the separate battery used for start/stop feature... but it's illegal.
