    *Great reel, **enjoyable.fishing** recommend very smooth and I love that you can change from left hand to right hand so easily. Gave it a 4 on durability because I haven’t had it long enough to rate it. Doing good so far.*

    That was great to watch. Never took a reel apart other than to remove the spool. Great demonstration.

    I didn’t know spinning reels were this complex, I buy the cheap ones and then replace every 10 years or so rather than maintain. Nice job on this!

      Honestly, you could do the same with this reel haha. I've never cleaned a couple of my older Penn reels. Not a bad strategy.

      Damn you must have hella play in the bearings and shafts, that would drive me crazy. Once you feel a brand new mid tier/high tier reel like penn battle 3 or spinfisher it just makes fishing shitty on loose bearings without that "thightness" and precision to it. at least for me!

    Great video. I have the Fierce 5000 , and the handle at the knuckle has a lot of play and cant get it to tighten up some? Is there any washers before the handle goes on?
    thanks for any help

    My new Fierce 2500 started "knocking" after just a few uses. Never dropped, no real fish, not abused in any way. Have read that the crosswind block might need more grease. Any advice?

  • @gregkishlock4114

    That was a good video. I wish you would have removed the pinion, I removed mine, there are two bearings, and didn’t realize that the orientation of of the bearings were critical, and yes you could put both on backwards. The inner bearing if installed backwards would not let you reel in the correct direction. The outer bearing if installed backwards would not let the plate screw down completely. I had a 50/50 chance and surprisingly got it right. I usually get 50/50’s wrong every time. But anyway great job.

    I imagine that oil or grease on your lines will contaminate the scent in the water if your not careful. Just a thought, great video.

    i'm a litte confussed on the use of oil vs grease. I hear grease is a natural water repellent so use grease over oil. Yet in this video and others i have seen, they cleaned and removed the grease and put oil instead. It does not make sense to place oil where grease is applied. has anyone notice or know the difference? but good video therough

    • @cjsfishing1494
      @cjsfishing1494 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Use grease on the pinion gear, main gear, and the oscillation gear. Use oil on the bearings, main shaft, and where the bail hinges. If you fish a lot of saltwater then you can put grease in other places and where the bail hinges if you believe it needs it.

    • @JA-bu6xu
      @JA-bu6xu ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Use grease where sand and dirt cant get to it, drag system and gear, grime sticks to grease, grime doesn’t stick to oil and oil does not allow salt and water to get to the reel as much

    When I first got the reel, it was stiff like feeling wasn’t smooth so lubed it up

      @@CastFromTheHip it feels good now, I put a lil wd40 which Ik isn’t the best to use but I used it and spun it a bunch and smoothed out

  • @claymaker4579

    I think I slightly damaged the gear, I didn't have it lined up properly first time but fixed it and everything is still really smooth

    Is there any reason you do not wash out the old grease first to clean it completely and soak the bearings in degreaser then apply your oil and grease ?
    People seem to be affraid of kerosene and degreasers for fishing reel cleaning on You Tube .

    • @CastFromTheHip
      @CastFromTheHip  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I use degreasers on vintage reels where the old grease has solidified and bound the components. The method you describe is certainly more thorough than what I use on my working reels. I typically oil my bearings and grease my gears. So when I clean, I just wipe down the bearings and re-apply oil. They never really interface with grease. I wipe and brush the old/dirty grease off the gears and then apply fresh grease. This method has always worked for me.
      I have some old Penn Fierces that never get cleaned, they just get WD-40 once in a while and they keep chugging. I abuse them out of curiosity and I'm pleasantly surprised. To me the most important thing is just preventing corrosion. I guess it all depends on the situation and the quality of the reel. Cheap reels get WD-40 and I move on with my life, the expensive reels get whatever they need to keep operating smoothly. Thanks for stopping by!

    Whenever I spin my fierce 3 it feels like bumpy do you know what it is?

    • @bigmac5368
      @bigmac5368 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      mine is the same i think it is due to oiling the gears and not greasing them so i feel the gears moving, the gears where the handle connects too

    • @kokoyhawaii
      @kokoyhawaii 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mine too, only used about 20x over 8 months. Gonna take it apart and try to fix it. Having since purchased more expensive reels makes the Fierce seem even more inferior

      I have soft beautiful hands…can’t let them get ruined by oil and grease.
      All seriousness, I take the gloves off to operate my expensive camera. Not getting oil and grease all over it.

    Fierce 3 or persuit 3 which is better

    • @CastFromTheHip
      @CastFromTheHip  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for stopping by. I've only owned one pursuit and a Crevalle jack shredded the drag system rendering the reel virtually useless. I have never had a Fierce 1,2 or 3 fail on me yet. And I don't take the best care of my fierce reels...they keep trucking on. That's just my experience.
