  • Blown V8 inspired printing head! Quick detach front with magnets and blower with movable throttle plates!
This is designed for the Ender 3V2 but may be compatible with other printers as well.
This is designed for the Orbiter V2 extruder and the Dragonfly BMS hotend (6 fins)
Derivative designs for Orbiter V1.5 and stock ender 3 Hotend coming soon!
    Magnetic mounting:
You can use 2 sets of 10x3 magnets or you can use a 10x5 magnets on the mounting plate and M3x5 screws on the printing head. Results may vary based on the strength of the magnets.
This printing head is just fresh through development, so there might still some bugs on it. If you find them let me know and I will work to make updates!

Attention to everyone wanting to build this!
If you are using the Dragonfly BMS Hotend, pay close attention to how many fins your cooling block has!
Dragonfly changed their design without telling anyone and now it is longer than before, so it can be a drop in replacement to the stock ender 3v2 hotend.
If your Dragonfly Hotend has !! 6 !! fins, then you have the !! old !! design and you can use the design which is labeled for the Dragonyfly BMS
If your Dragonfly Hotend has !! 7 !! fins, then you have the !! new !! design and you have to use the design which was made for the Ender 3 Stock Hotend!
    Otherwise it just won't fit.
I really appreciate your dedication for these designs and thank you for your help while solving this described issue!

Thanks Simon for pointing this out! I would like to put a picture of the 7 vs. 6 fin version on the thingiverse page but I couldn’t find any online. I’ll look into making a 3D model to show this more clearly.

How did you know I like taking hot end selfies?

Considering you have a bit of play on your duct, I would not place my BL-touch where you have it now, but on the gantry itself. That way your accuracy stays and it's 1 connection less to swap out. Nice concept/idea.

Yea you are completely right. I looked so hard for a way to mount the BLTouch on the gantry but couldn’t find a way while keeping the shape of the V8. I think I will make a better optimized printing head for magnetic mounting in the future that’s in a different shape to solve this.

I was excited to see a Part 2! Keep up the good work man 👍. I'd be interested to see if you workout a mounting solution for the BL-touch that hides the connector/wires

Yea I’ve got some great ideas to have a much better overall solution but sadly may have to go away from the V8 look.

Maybe you could print a small cover for the BL touch to cover the wires instead of changing the overall design?

      Good idea!

Hey there, I've been watching your visa and they're great. Im looking at upgrading my hotend and extruder on my ene 3 v2. The orbiter v2 looks great but I'm deciding between the dragonfly and dragon. What helped you choose the dragonfly hotend.
    Thanks

I mainly chose the dragonfly for its simplicity and relatability to the stock hotend. Similar shape similar mounting etc, and also allows for higher temperature materials. I do think the dragon hotend is a more efficient overall design, better thermals, capable of higher max flow rates if your speed printing or printing with large nozzles and it has a stronger structure, if your nozzle has a pretty bad collision the dragon will have much less chance of being damaged than the dragonfly. That being said I will probably upgrade to something like the dragon or mosquito hotend in the future as well 😄

I cant find the file for the standart hotend

I’ve added the link now for the screw mounted version which has the standard hotend. The magnetic version I still need to design the alternate designs for the stock hotend and orbiter V1.5. I’ll get those posted this week.
