I'm a Macdon mechanic, we have a trade in Draper head in the shop now, and we have no record of working on it since we sold it new in 2014. The sickle was broken and welded in 3 places, the feed draper carrier was broken, welded back together without being straightened. They even welded the Draper tensioner to the carrier instead of fixing the $5 tensioning bolt. Factory hydraulic oil had never been changed. Main frame is cracked in several places. Most of the reel is trashed, multiple bearings gone, and there's a reel cam arm that's missing, probably went through their combine. I don't understand how some people can be okay with treating an investment like that, but what do I know. I'm just the guy with the wrenches
We sold a new Hagie to some customers, they had it for pry 2-3 weeks and their operator was backing out of a field and got to close to the edge of the road and the road gave out, hagie tipped over.. wasn’t totaled so gonna be a good time rebuilding it
I’m a combine tech at an independent shop here in south central Kansas. Had an S780 come in for winter inspection and crop change from corn to wheat. Found ingestion damage in the machine. Come to find out when the customer brought in the small wire concave, one of them was broke, so ingestion occurred during wheat last year, and the customer went ahead and put the round bar concaves in and picked corn anyway.. had to replace feed accelerator supports, threshing elements, separator tines, and one of the plastic sheets in the return pan got knocked down and rubbed into the chaffer frame so I got to put in a chaffer frame kit. It was a fun one…
Up here in Montana we had a farmer fall asleep while planting. He was running a 9630T and a Bourgault planter along with a cart. He fell asleep with GPS on and drove off of a 35 FT cliff. Totaled everything but the tractor. The cart flipped over 3 times. The pictures of the aftermath is something else. He was okay and walked away without any serious injury's
Yeah I know of a farmer here in Western Australia who fell deep asleep seeding at night, ended up gowing through fences across a couple of fields and actually crossed a country gravel road dragging the fence lines behind him, the noise of the tractor struggling and the seeder bar ripping up the gravel road woke him up... He was a neighbour of the farm I was working on as a seeder driver at that time, I was driving a tracked challenger pulling a 50ft flexicoil bar, when I heard what had happened I played around with the settings on our GPS autosteer system and found that you could set a loud beeping alarm that came on when you were certain amount of metres from the end of a run, I was working the nightshifts so needless to say I enabled that alarm! 😅
3 616R hydro pump failures, 9RX 640 ate 6 water pumps in 40 hours (Deere got us to put a new engine in that one), 9560R SCV supply hose rubbed through under cab in the field just before a spring snow storm. 616R boom hit a rock pile and split it in half. Those are the first things I can think of. Man, it's been a busy spring.
Man! Your service truck is squared away organized. I dont do your work but I do carry a ton of tools for my trade and one thing I figured out early on in my life is going to work with an organized truck is without question the biggest reliever of stress for me. Its also easier to maintain discipline putting things away after a tough and long job where you just want to get home. Super impressed with your set up.
Our 8100 has hit 3000 rpm before. Just rolling alone and it just took off, dad hit the key before anything blew up. Turned out to be a rubbed through or shorted wire in the harness to the injection pump.
Kinda what I was thinking when he explained his situation. Maybe it’s intermittent enough that it only happens after the tractor runs for a bit. Hard to say though
Said similar before - when a guy your size has difficulty fitting a hose line for length or angle - the rest of us are sure going to struggle! Gotta admire your can do attitude out in the field with your usual wry sense of humour - thanks for bringing us along and sharing those family photos - strangely, there's more to life than Green Iron.
Hi Zeth. Been a while since I commented. All you videos to date have been fantastic, as usual. I feel that the loss of Josh and your good friend, has knocked you somewhat, just a feeling a get watching you. The luv and support for you personally and your lovely family is as strong as ever amongst us followers. Julian U.K KTGIM X
Man it sucks when you have to take a tractor apart just to fix the problem. You are a big man so you can handle stuff like tires or weights etc. but the dealership sent this one tech. to the farm to work on one of our tractors and he was a little dude so everything he had to lift he did with the crane. Took all the front weights off (they only weigh 100 pounds each) with it cause he couldn't lift them. We helped him put them back on cause it would have taken twice as long with that slow crane. Tractor could have use a good power washing bath but you work with what you have. You have a beautiful family and your wife is gorgeous. Yep picking berries while you are slaving away at the job. Well it be that way sometimes.
Mr. Mindcraft making sure the Berries taste OK. LOL. I did the same thing when I was His age. Beautiful family, You are a blessed Man of God. Thanx for sharing. 😃
I have to admit I had my fingers crossed when you started the tractor the first time. I think it's the old retired farmer in me.Great video!! Thanks 😊.
Used to work at Sloans in Assumption myself. Had an 8300 in shop that would go crazy on RPM's . Had a place on wiring harness that went to pump that had a bare spot on wires rubbing something metal.
Much respect to you for working solo, I know it is tough and would have thought at least your people would send at least an apprentice to fetch tools and stuff. I was an industrial mechanic at a paper mill and we had plenty of help. If something went wrong on your job you would be in trouble, KUDO’s to you.
I thought about you today. I put my wife on the Toy Deere D110 cutting grass down at my shop while I moved some cut down trees with my 2025R. She had a little issue as the keeper clip came out of the front deck hanger and bent the rod. Parts are in tomorrow and I'll get it fixed Monday. Life goes on! Thanks for your effort it putting out these videos!
Thanks Zeth, at least you got everything sorted, even if it was eventually. I could almost feel the heat radiating from my screen, boy that must have been uncomfortable! I don't know what your wife was planning to do with all those Strawberries, but I know that I couldn't get through one of those punnets in a week, let alone all those. Hope you enjoyed your fair share, without too much trouble. Thanks from UK.
I guess you don’t put water in your tyres for ballast like we do here in Australia is it because they might freeze .Keep up the good work keeping the green machines going cheers
I have always admired your service trucks! As a smaller fellow that is a plant fitter can see the benefits of the crane and set up of your trucks in the states! (UK based)
I had an 8200 last fall with 7.6 and a Bosch pump that did the same thing as that 9100. It would set code 34 and the pump had been rebuilt once before. Found plungers sticking and barrels scored causing the rack to stick.
I am a john deere mechanic in holland the canitsch of last week was a z997 whit a busted hydrostat a 7710 whit broken exaustmanifold bolts, And last a 6400 whit brake plates gone and sticking in 4wd just ceep the old green going youve gotta love the job or go home.
As a fellow dealer tech, the worst thing I've seen so far, is an 8310 non R not want to come out of park at idle. It's pressuring up, but the CCU doesn't like the pressure. Found the transmission pump isn't in the best shape. But of course, the pump was ordered April 18, but they pushed my promise ship date back to end of June. And of course, the customer wants it now.
Thanks for another great video ZK. It was interesting and informative and enjoyable. Wow. Had to take the duals off to get at the hose. That made extra work for you. Having that crane on your truck really is nice. I remember at least three or four times you have used it on the videos. Nice service truck you have now. That was a difficult area to work in getting that hose in and out. Was pretty dirty and full of mud or whatever??? Oh my. Well anyway, you got the hose replaced and tested and ok. Cleaned out the fluid screen and was ok and wheels back on. Up to the tractor and farmer now to run it and see how it goes. Nice work ZK. Everything back together and cleaned up. Another job done. Thanks for everything ZK. You take care and be safe. The Iowa farm boy. Steve. PS. Enjoy those strawberries!!!!!!🍓 Good to see you and video again!!!!!!
There is a 9560R at the Sloans in Carlinville that got hit by lightning. Blew the lights slam out of it. Completely dead and got the computer on the VT tool it was hooked to as well I heard.
Ford TW-15 rear coolant block plug came out. Have to split the tractor to fix it. Ford 5900 kept shutting off and clogging filters. Tank was rusty and some of that made it into the injection pump. Guess what has to be replaced now?😂 Never ending!
My spring has consisted of fan drives, SCV couplers, Hagie boom CAN BUS issues, priority valve, 6120m clutch cooling valves and exhaust valves, def header and a few turbos
Neighbor had young fellow who wouldnt listen to directions and tore up a big disc turning corners without lifting. Tore the whole hitch and front framework. Had to buy a used one ASAP and haul it home.
I had to pull the complete hydraustat system out of a r4045 sprayer to be overhauled and flushed out all the lines, had to remove the rear pump again because pressure could not be achieved, once this was corrected had to assemble the machine again my back was killing me...
Your injector pump question. I've seen the rack get jammed in is full fuel position when left alone for some time. On the inline pump I had this issue with you could access the fuel rack and free it up without taking the pump off.
I guess I’m old school, Zach, but it give me the chills watching you work under that tractor with a jack. I see the steel pin in there but I’m still scared! Ha. I add 6x6 blocks under everything I jack up. Great video. Btw, beautiful family!!! Man’s gotta bring home the bacon! Ha. Admire your work!
It's been a few years ago now but my old 8770 four wheeler had one of those hydraulic hose go that are back there by the front of the cab in the engine compartment. I was laying up there all nice and comfy on the axel housing with my feet on the rail down by the radiator doing the top end. All done, fire it up and like you, could barely shut it off quick enough before she grenades. My foot had unhooked wiring that ran around to the pump on the other side. TLDR- check wiring on that runaway pump cause instead of failing low, mine failed WOT without the connection.
Don't know why, but looking at your videos something makes my thoughts wander to Vice Grip Garage, another great channel. Already waiting for the next post.
Zack, on our farm we’ve had several blown o rings and seals. A wheel lift cylinder and an o ring on the planter, and last week a blown o ring on the front brake selenoid of our 8345R
I’ve got a 6140R that came in the other day that stopped running. Well the dampener on the front of the engine is resting on top of the front axle and when turning it over you can tell it has very little compression. Did a compression test and had numbers that ranged from 50psi to 325 psi. The #3 glow plug was smashed badly.
Not farming related. But have a mx13 paccar with a cracked liner due to the piston and rod having a lack of lube and locking together. Then another paccar that has a wrong oil filter installed causing a lack of oil filtration to the engine. That one is destroyed.

New Holland tech here, one of out tractors got hit by a semi, rear left axle broke, windows turned to powder, fuel tank got pancaked, roof is about 3 pieces now
That hose you took off wasn't painted. The top nut was loose and let the oring blow. I would say the previous tech forgot to tighten the top nut or didn't do the thorough job you did by taking duals off so wasn't able to get the angle to tighten top nut. Probably wasn't anything wrong with hose but you couldn't risk the possibility. Good video.
I've just watched a You tube short video of a guy in a Quadtrac thats hit a Electricity Pylon..In saskatuan by all accounts..some carnage! not quite as bad as the Baltimore Bridge..Cj UK
I had a 9430 loose all of the bearings in the rear axle and sent metal through the whole system. Had to rebearing the axle, diff, flush the transmission and front axle and all the metal took the lube pump out
"Gonna take a lot more than that to stop me" Well said, a man after my own heart. Hard work never killed anyone..
I have no stories to tell because I don't farm. I watch because you produce great videos that are interesting. Thank you!
Glad you like them!

@@ZKMasterTech Sorry, no comprende what you want me to explain. I are an American who graduated from Texaco Tech. What is Yeesh? 3 Polish tacos?
Zeth you have to get yourself a pipeliners cloud umbrella for your crane. Keep up the great work man, have a great memorial day.
wow! great job in the field
Those thread files are fantastic. You don't expect them to work as good as they do.
Yes they are!
We had the transmission lock up on our new silageblower in the first use ( deere chopper engine with marine transmission on an silageblower)
Torn out a rear axle of a 9530 with bad axle seal and ate into the housing, the brass shim and bearings. Fan drive in a 8335R an water pump in a 9220

Hopefully the engineer who made that original fan drive is no longer employed by John Deere.
