  • Building a motorized bicycle using an 80cc engine kit from ebay and a Huffy Nel Lusso cuiser bike purchased from Walmart.
I spent $110 on the eBay engine kit & $119 on the Huffy.
The eBay seller for this kit was "smartmotor"...here is a link to his items for sale ebay.us/Gc44xN
If you prefer shopping on Amazon, here are similar bike kits.
    amzn.to/2XOmpXJ
    amzn.to/2YKl7sR
I bought my extra brake on amazon...they have a 73-91mm reach, but they were too short to fit properly. Here is an affiliate link to the one I bought on Amazon:

And feel free to buy me a beer!

I've watched this vid several times. Its a favorite because of your honesty. No frills. Just a down home DIY VIDEO. I've watched the sequels. Those darn chain tensioner. And chain guards. That gas tank mod is a great idea. One of the best I've seen.

Originally, I had cut off the rear rack of my Nel Lusso bike to add a friction-drive Lock N' Load unit to the rear. I have since picked up a couple of 80cc 2-stroke engines and am in the process of watching such videos as this one to get some ideas as to how to set it up in the bike. I put caps on each part of the rack to cover the nubs left on the frame. I removed the fenders and am in the process of building the bike in this manner, now. A tip is to use several quick ties around the center to keep an equal distance when putting that hub sprocket into place. It spaces the area out quite evenly and you simply pull the plastic ties out when finished. I did end up putting a better kick stand onto my bike though. It raises the front of the bike up and telescopes, but it is not meant to have someone sit on the bike when it is in use. Only to hold it up well. I had to laugh as I wondered if you were indeed putting the sprocket on backwards. It was hard to see at first when you were filming it. When I got my packages of engines, I thought right away that it may be a mistake problem that is easy to do if you are not careful. :-) I am not fully through in watching your video just yet, as I keep running out to look at my own bike and check things as I do my build. This is my first build although I have ridden motorcycles most of my lifetime (71 years at present). Thanks for posting this video.

nice work on the Install Steve FYI i read on some Forum that the Importers of some of theose kits were getting harassed by Attorneys because many bikes people were putting them on had the Factory Welds coming apart because they were not designed to handle the stress the engines added to the bike i’ve noticed that now many of the Websites that do sell them have more details outlined on the bike styles they reccomend installing. the kits on like yours most of them do reccomend a Cruiser style Frame that are usually larger Tubings which theoretically would mean more surface Weld area not necessarily a stronger or better Weld but i guess that can change amount the Manufacturers the Forum i read mentioned the head Tube breaking off and when I was a kid in the 1970s riding Wheelies and doing Jumps i broke that Weld on 3 different bikes i will testify it’s a Gnarly one to have give out when you are riding as you lose your front wheel and Handle Bars that send you head first into the Ground and back then we did not wear Helmets on Bikes and Staples for Skulls we’re not invented yet so the Hospital trip was a painful and long one

@@Steve_Does_Stuff The furnace was removed from the house next door, and I latched on to the plenum, cut it down, supported the bottom with plywood, made a lid, and added small wheels, axle, and tongue - hey, presto! a trailer that can haul lots of groceries, or a tool box and car parts. I used a car outer tie rod end to connect to the hitch on the bike. Swivels side to side, pivots for up and down hill angles - generally satisfactory - and being a recycled (nudge, wink, get it? re CYCLED?) part, very affordable.

me too just built engine but had a few problems while installing, engine was too large and carb didnt fit, had to cut intake manifold but now its not level, have to but offset intake manifold but recently when just starting it for the first time while pedaling the chain tensioner got pulled into the spokes and warped the rear wheel, luckily i have new wheels on the way, i strongly suggest a few things, either replace all bolts at hardware store or use loctite, also replace the chain tensioner with a spring loaded one so it has some give and doesnt just get pulled into spokes, and last piece of advice, get an adapter or wheel with a dedicated hub so that way you dont attach sprocket to spokes and weaken the wheel over time

Hi Steve. So i have my engine on order. Should have it next week. I bought my 2 stroke oil. So im already thinking of upgrading the kit sparkplug and fuel line. Is there any other advice that you could give me as far as installation and preparation that would make operation of bike complete? I bought a 26" Ross mountain bike from a thrift store for $20. Im no stranger to bikes. Everything looks good on it. No cracks in welds or anywhere. Will replace tires, tubes, and brake pads of course.

my father's an experienced mechanic and has lots of experience with bicycle motor I found out, here's what he says...
because of how 2 stroke engines use the fuel/oil mix to lube, much of it burns off but still leaves some residue, most oil additives are designed for 4 stroke motors, using oil additives in 2 strokes can not only REDUCE the efficiency of the fuel burning off, but the residues themselves actually increase the need for regular maintenance more frequently and CAUSE long term damage and reduction of engine life, and believe it or not, using full or blend synthetic oils in the fuel/oil also REDUCE fuel efficiency because of the higher resistance to high heat and ignition, a strait up proprietary, pure 2-stroke oil and shell premium with nitrogen is best.
also, do not use fuel additives that add octane, on small 2 stroke engines they serve no purpose, the compression is not sufficient enough to be of any benefit.
DO NOT use fuel additives that have lots of detergents, except when doing breakdown maintenance, the engine relies heavily on the oil residue to lubricate and detergent additives in oils break down that function causing increased wear and tear, increasing the frequency of maintenance and reducing engine life.
if you insist on using a supplemented oil (an oil with additives) or oil additives anyway, NEVER, EVER, EVER use ones that have or add metallic and/or flammable substances such as zinc and phosphorus, these are optimized for 4 stroke engines, because 2 stoke engines burn off the oils, the metallic additives create deposits that actually damage the piston walls and rings, further increasing the need for breakdown maintenance and reducing engine life, as for flammable additives such as phosphorus and sulphates, these burning off in the engine create acids and cause severe corrosion in these smaller engines especially.
keep your oils and fuels as pure as possible and it will help greatly
when you intend on storing your bike for more than 60 days, empty the fuel tank and add a fuel stabilizer but NO oil, when you decide to go and ride again, add the requisite amount of oil, then idle the engine for 10 minutes, shut down for 30-45+ minutes for cool down, then go and have fun
try and remember, "2 stroke" & "4 stroke" are NOT numbers, they are completely different types of engines, and need to be treated as such.
I do recommend an oil additive called 'nanolub csx', but NOT for mixing in the fuel, it makes an AWSOME lubricant for external moving parts on the engine and bicycle and chain, may your bikes "Live Long & Prosper"

Hi. Great video. Im thinking of ordering the same kit for my bicycle. I have a question, how many times do i have to use oil to gas mixture? Afterwards, can be run on just fuel alone? How many miles daily should be maximum ridden for break-in period? Thank you

Steve ok thanx. Just watched your second bike build video. Had another question. Sorry i couldnt fit it into prior questions. Do you end up losing the front breaks cause of clutch lever? Your vids were perfect. Feel like i could install kit blindfolded now thanx to you

Steve thats a great idea! I just checked on Ebay $12. I will do the same thing. Can never be too safe! I think i am going to buy the 80cc motor kit for $90. Is there a way to tell when i get it that it's really 80cc? I would hate to get duped with a 50cc motor. I appreciate your responses btw Steve. 👍

Steve so i was just curious, you need to peddle the bike to start the engine. So how do you ride the bike normal without having the engine start?

So i took my chain pulley tensioner apart (i got bike used) to clean it now i made a dumb mistake and i didn't take a pic or look at really before it all came apart. There is the bolt a lock washer and normal washer and a spacer + the bearing inside the wheel i put the bolt into bearing than spacer than washer than used locked washer with nut to hold it on... my chain is making noise now i had to do something wrong and or something needs fixed.. i also know my coaster break is about shot so that might be the noise i hear idk!?? I have some knowledge but not much never worked on theses before have about a 2 years of working on 4 stroke scooters
