    I am a mechanic and I wanted to add that I ALWAYS use hose clamps. Imagine riding down the road and something snags on your fuel line. With the hose clamps you are that much less likely to be covered in gas
    Thanks for the good quality video 👌🏼

    Couple helpful tips..
    When putting on the rear sprocket on use a "torque wrench" so its definitely then in the centre and straight ..
    For better performance and reliability should used a better exhaust and air filter,spark plug,chain tensioner,(upgrade to the spring mounted one) (bc the stock one does become lose and goes into the wheel),then should be alot better build 👍

    You said at the beginning that you would have preferred a black painted engine. If the one you have is not painted, in other words there is no silver "coating" on the head and cylinder the engine will shed heat easier and run a lot cooler. If possible, I would always prefer raw metal on the engine instead of some kind of coating. Even chrome will tend to hold heat. Aluminum is a very efficient heat exchange metal, and is used in electronics for that purpose.

    The Rubber disc that sandwich the spokes are actually not made from old tires, they are made from Scrap Conveyor Belt. Like the conveyors in rock quarry's that carry rock. You can tell from the "plys" in the belting.

    • @johncuzzourt2118
      @johncuzzourt2118 5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      It's the same material used in "rag joints" on steering columns. Called a rag joint because you can see the fibers around the cut edges. Rag joints make a simple "universal joint" without bearings. This is very tough stuff. Sandwiching spokes in it to attach a sprocket is a clever adaptation.

    Great video. I just bought a kit today, EXTRAS...I ordered a heavy duty chain, a dual brake lever, some Loctite and a spring loaded chain adjuster. I would only use ethanol free gas and synthetic 2 stroke oil. On somebody else's video they recommend pouring oil down the spark plug to pre- lube the cylinder. Let it sit and then turn it upside down to drain out. I haven't got any of the parts yet...... but that is my recommendation after watching tons of videos on the subject. GOOD LUCK WITH YOUR BUILDS!!

    Thank you for the vid. I'm still in the research phase, learning about all this... I haven't actually purchased or built anything yet. But, I wanted to comment about the "break in phase". Reading all these comments it hit, how & why it works. Ever "season" a frying pan? It involves taking a new pan, and heating it up with fresh oil in it. The heat causes the pores of the pan to expand, letting oil down inside. It also causes the oil to "carmelize", solidifying into a coating very much like a hard plastic. Obviously, something very similar happens inside the engine during break in. I've read a few people pooh-pooh'ing the break in phase, saying it's really not needed. I don't believe it.

    • @LordOfSilense
      @LordOfSilense 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It's the same reason why cars, motorcycles, and scooters all have a break-in. The break-in period is more about properly wearing the piston (thing that pushes the gas to compress) and the cylinder (the thing the piston slides up and down in) so that they are worn "together" (so that their grooves/wear patterns match). This is important because during this time you tend to have fine metal shavings (that wear off both parts of both as they are first used). The better you wear your parts together (don't stress them too much, don't use them in low-load situations, don't run them super lean w/out oil) the better fit you get. And the better fit you get between the piston and the cylinder the more horsepower you get. More horsepower means, well, more power.

    You should really consider getting the tektro beach Cruiser brakes, they work on the beach cruisers and have served me well. Wider brake pads with more contact area to the rim also make a difference to an extent

    Guys get the gear adapter that clamps around the hub. It can be had on eBay, bike berry, kings motor bikes, Amazon, and other sights. I got mine from bike berry with a gear for $75ish plus shipping. Less stress on the spokes, and easer to change gears. That and the chain tensioner that attaches over the motor drive gear. In my opinion those are the 2 important upgrades.

    Pac-Man washer? Metal bee? Interesting!
    And the ‘ferrule’ on the spark plug is for ‘push fit’ spark plug connectors... (these have RF suppression to stop the high tension voltage required to induce the spark, from causing radio interference) remove the ferrule for the older ‘tab’ style connector, using the threaded ferrule as a nut to hold the tab connector on the end of the spark plug... but ideally replace the older style connectors with suppression style (not applicable for this build - already supplied)
    Thanks for showing all the steps and for posting this very informative video... including the corrections that you could’ve edited out but didn’t, showing that mistakes can be corrected. The modifications to the mounting bracket also shows how it’s possible to troubleshoot issues! Cheers!

    Hm. That's interesting. I also have a full colour assembly guide and it says the concavity of the sprocket disc is inward towards the spokes "this helps keep the chain closer to the inside of the wheel". Your chain would be running further from the interior (mid line) of your wheel if the sprocket disc was fitted the way you're showing it. Having the chain running as close as possible to the spokes reduces wheel-twisting torque.

    Just letting everyone know, don't use the fuel ratio they tell you to use, start mixing at 20:1 and burn two tanks then go to 30:1 and give it a couple more tanks, then burn 40:1 forever after that. These are Chinese made engines and the Chinese use cheap regular motor oil. If you burn to much oil you have a chance of blowing your head gasket or having oil leak out the exhaust.

    Also saw one other gentleman take the trans cover off and grease the tranny. Looks like a good idea to use.
    Make sure the 4 bolts on the head are tight. Be sure you have a heavy duty kickstand.
    Wider brake pads.
    Use plenty of black plastic cable ties.
    I would stick the front brake lever on the left handlebar with the clutch. Rearview mirror too!

    Great video! I put a 50cc kit on a nice mountain bike somebody left at the local dump. It's been great so far. I'm wondering if you ever found a solution for the brake on the left. I just put both on together. I need to keep in mind the top one is the clutch but it became second nature after a short time. I've never seen a 2 stroke engine that requires so much oil. Normally they are 40:1 or even 50:1. One of the comments from a viewer said 16:1 and 20:1 is too much and may even blow the head gasket. Have you heard any more about fuel/oil ratios? The only thing I can figure is that they are relatively crudely built engines out of sub standard materials and might seize up with less oil.

    Instead of scratching the metal for the hand throttle, I would suggest using a paint marker and paint up the stud so that when you put the clamshell together it'll leave a nice little dot on the handlebar to drill.

      @11:15 - On my bikes I just grind off the stud and drill a small hole through the throttle clamp and line it up on the handle bars where I want it and drill a hole into the bars and screw it in place. That way you can't bump your throttle handle and brake the stud off when you're 10 miles from a screwdriver and the entire assembly twists as you attempt to ride ;)

    My issue is my tank when it has fuel in it it will be completely dry with in 2 minutes of letting the bike sit. so i am going to check the fuel shut off but even if that isn't working the carb should be holding all the fuel but it is not? Not sure what to do.

    I just put my chain on. When I try to petal, I hear this popping sound in the motor, and it’s extremely difficult to petal like there’s some sort of resistance. Did u have this problem by any chance ? I would love some feedback, Thankyou! And nice build 👍🏼

    I’m setting up a 49cc 4-stroke with centrifugal clutch on an Onex Genesis 29er Black Cruiser. Why 4 stroke? No smoke, no vibration, pull start, and I still have front brake lever I can convert to disc brake. You gotta have the front brake.... believe me. Why 49cc? Keeps it street legal in most states. Nice video....Thx!

      graftonreed 2 stroke engine kits are actually only 49cc as well they are just advertised as 66cc-80cc for some reason I love my two stroke the modifications for more power are endless port work, piston work, expansions chamber exhaust, balanced crank for no engine vibrations, reed valves, high compression head and pistons, bigger carburetors, so have fun going 25mph with your 49cc 4 stroke while I’m going 65mph on my 2 stroke in my opinion only 4 stroke that should be on a bike is a predator 212cc

      @@giovanniminotte2951 65 on a normal bike that's just stupid... You should only go 25 to 35 on a bike with an engine on it.

    You shouldn’t need the chain idler. They make half links. If the chain is too loose, take out a link and add a half link

    In my limited experience with these motorized bicycle kits rubber washers are your friend anything that is thin sheet metal with one Anchor Point like your fenders or you that gas tank or really anything that's going to vibrate loose crack or anything like that put a rubber washer on it all your screws used Loctite like every screw even if it's only blue Loctite
    I use red Loctite but that's only because I don't plan on it coming apart again in certain places
