Yes, scheduled messaging is strictly forbidden by Apple on iMessage.

@@omaral-azzawi2266 Is that what happened? I noticed that the Messages app on my Galaxy Note 20 Ultra 5G no longer showed how many characters I had typed after the Android 12/One UI 4.0 update. So I checked what type of messages I was sending and it said they were 'chat' messages. I'm almost positive there haven't been any tips or notices about the change. I was pretty sure that's what was going on but I wasn't sure. It's weird though because after seeing your comment I checked what the message type was and it suddenly shows my character count again and says my more recent message type is 'text message'. So I'm a little confused. And annoyed that it doesn't tell you what's going on. I may just switch to Google Messages.

RCS is great in theory, but Google and phone carriers have been horrible at deploying it. I constantly have issues with other Android users that use Messages where it'll say I'm chatting with them, they'll reply and it'll come as a standard SMS message, then I'll reply again and it'll go as a chat. Not to mention all the issues between carriers, like trying to use RCS with someone on AT&T while I'm on T-Mobile. The potential is there, but they need to put more work into it.
Exactly, switches between SMS and it pisses me off.. It won't let me react to other messages either, just lets me react to my own text that I send.
Turn off auto send as sms if they are offline. Then it won't send SMS. Why is everyone so slow with this

Samsung messages has been using RCS for a bit however it has only worked when messaging other samsungs, however with the S22 lineup Samsung collaborated with Google to bring a OneUi skinned version of Google Messages to those devices as the DEFAULT messaging app. However they still packed in the old Samsung Messages as well for people who may prefer the features on that one instead. I think this is a great step forward and hopefully other companies follow suit. MKBHD brought up a good point, MOST people tend to use the default messaging app instead of going out of their way to install another one. With this knowledge I think companies should follow the Samsung route and just make Google Messages the standard default so that every android user has it pre-installed from day 1.
Samsung may have started the RCS trend at first and I was content with it being my default until I realized that advanced messages don't transfer over to new phones, especially if you decide to use a different text messages app. That's when I made the switch to Google messages since RCS messages transfer over as MMS thus allowing them to be readable by any text messages app, not just by their app. Hopefully this isn't an issue for the Samsung skin of Google messages for new Galaxy devices

Been using RCS for a while but never knew about the texting from a laptop option. Even though I'll never, use it seems like a pretty cool feature. I hope they keep this as the standard going forward.
They've had this available for a while actually with the messages app. I use it a lot actually because a large portion of my job involves texting people.

I've been receiving\sending texts from my laptop and other devices for yonks plus ages. Using Tasker and Join.

I personally love not letting people know when I have read a message. It seems incredibly intrusive and also forces you respond. This also allows one to disconnect from obligations whether work or personal as we all need to disconnect.

You can also schedule when you want messages to be sent by typing your message out and long pressing on the send icon
I wish there was a SMS auto reply for when you're in a meeting or busy. Like an auto answering service...."Hey, I've received your message, but I'm busy at the moment. I'll get back to you as soon as I'm free". Something like that. Or a vacation version..... Especially good for small business owners.
Root your phone and install Tasker. I use Tasker to:
(1) put my phone into "silent" mode when I'm in a meeting and\based on my Calendar appointments.
(2) auto reply to any messages received based on (1) above.
I've been doing this since 2009.
There is try tasker in Google play store
I've finally seen the light! My brother sent me a video via RCS today and the video was full screen and high quality. I was also able to send a 4k60 clip from Filmic Pro although it was sent at x2 speed. Never thought I'd see the day. We're getting where we need to be. I also love the Phone companion app for Android allowing me to send and receive messages right from my laptop while my phone is charging. The same app was missing so many features for iOS.
Your brother sent you a video through RCS? But RCS is unable to send videos or images altogether. I've used two phones now that utilize RCS and both are completely unable to send anything other than text.

@@sidersproductions941 Maybe it's because my phone was early into 5G. Some of the first 5G phones are notorious for buggy connection.
@@zebraneighbor6383 oh ok. Yeah that makes sense. I was really surprised when it happened. And now with the latest updates we can reach to iphone messages in the Messages app as well. Things are finally rounding out.
Has a lot of these features way back in the day on my Samsung Note 8 as Sprint allowed you to enable rcs years ago. Just a couple of new things here like the maps and website features. Just upgraded to a s23 ultra. I'll see what they added in theirs.
How is your google messages true black and not grey, also you have red bubbles. I'm using google messages on my s22 ultra and I don't get that, only with Samsung messages but I don't like it's adaptation.
I receive A LOT of what I regard as nuisance messages; is there an app that makes blocking those simple?

It appears LinkedIn and Amazon, amongst other platforms, don't seems to like RCS messaging. I have set up 2FA for a few platforms since having my LinkedIn compromised last year. I had SMS 2FA set up with LinkedIn and Amazon. I was using RCS messaging but the OTP didn't work. I changed back to standard SMS messaging and the 2FA OTP worked. Perhaps it's something in my settings, I'll have to check or maybe LinkedIn and other platforms don't like RCS messaging. Thank you for this interesing video. I hope to change back to RCS messaging as it's different and makes a change.
Nice features, but in Brazil we don't use sms or others apps like that, the most used app to send messages is WhatsApp

I wish the categories (and other newer features like iMessage reactions, etc.) were more wide spread in the beta, I've been using the beta version of Google messages forever and am still waiting for these 😖

It's ridiculous that google does that. My work phone a S21 Ultra has the categories and iphone emoji reactions but my personal phone which is a Pixel 6 pro does not. i also have been apart of the beta program for as along as I can remember

All nice features and all but I've been burnt WAY too many times (I'm still bitter about Hangouts). I was able to talk most of my closest friends into moving to Signal. I've lost all trust of Google's messaging products.👎🏾

@@jdstud6 Didn't work in my case. I had to remove 2nd SIM card to keep RCS working.
@@AlexMetslov My Pixel 6 Pro has been working with mint (esim) and verizon (physical sim) without issue for months. I had to restart the RCS service a few weeks ago but other than that it seems good.

So this used to be Carrier dependant. So Google is now hosting the RCS infrastructure for all Android phones?
Yes carriers refused to support RCS because they don't have any benefit. Now google is doing it

If you have a long text history that goes back over a year, how do you scroll to the beginning without having to scroll up constantly?
I gave RCS a chance for 3 years and there were always issues… used it on Verizon and T-Mobile and both carriers were always having some problem with RCS. Then the reports regarding where the messages data collected by google is going came out a few months ago and that was it for me… switched to iOS and iMessage is just a much much better experience . Here in the US most people use iMessage so it makes things easier while WhatsApp is good enough for family/friends overseas.

I turn off my wifi to save battery and reduce radio use. I tried using the RCS service some months ago. Using it in combination with no wifi (or mobile data use) seems to really screw it up. Messages won't be received or sent unless you're connected 😕 Have to stick with my horribly ancient SMS standard I guess.
Thats the whole point, RCS can only be used on wifi or data
@@elpropiogil Funny, I thought it was specifically aiming at replacing SMS messages with a text-message system that is richer, provides phonebook polling (for service discovery), and can transmit in-call multimedia. Didn't realize it's "whole point" was that it can only be used on wifi or data 🤔
@@c7261 Seems like using wifi or data is such a downside for you. All of these new features are possible because of that, sms is an ancient technology that uses cell towers to communicate, everyone has data and wifi so whats the problem?
@@c7261 it’s similar to iMessage on iPhone. That solely uses internet data so without that it won’t send. So sms is older but does have some advantages in certain aspects.

If you’re on a pixel you can change the theme color which also changes the color of the bubbles. It uses a four color palette and switches off between them
Change the wallpaper. You have to be on Android 12 for it to work.

No. I message my son who uses an iPhone 12 Pro. Not all of the features will work but you can still see if things were delivered.

Welll.. The ugly side...
RCS by Google MEssages has been constant pain. It works mostly, but when it stops - it's over.
Main reason to stop - Loosing data connection in the middle of sending/receiving. For example - being on the underground (London underground is still inventing mobile or wifi network along the route.) Then RCS will stop existing and get into endless loop on "Connecting" for random time. Could be minutes, hours, days or even weeks!
Other messages do resume work instantly as soon as they see internet connection.
Delayed delivery times is another issue. Some messages are not delivered when sent and can be delayed. My record was 4 days of delivery, when I already forgot about the message itself.
As such, I can't rely on important communication and am forced to use reliable and guaranteed communication messengers - WhatsApp, telegram. Somehow - it doesn't happen with other messaging apps. How it does happens with googles own product is beyond my mind. That is not a quality that will take the world over.

It's a product flaw and it shall be fixed.
The solution is !fixing! the product, not avoiding using it.

So when I press and hold to send a delayed text it gives me the option to send an urgent text and not a delayed text. Can someone explain why I don't have this option? (Galaxy S10+ 1tb)
In my experience RCS is too unreliable!
Messages constantly don't send saying the other person is offline when I know full well they are when the person is in the same house as me.

A friend of mine uses the stock Samsung texting app on a Samsung phone and it shows when I am typing a message to her or when she is typing a message to me. However it does not show if the message has been read. That may just be a setting on her phone that needs turned on.
She must have it turned off on her end

Nope. As long as you have the data plan or Wi-Fi connection.
I can still get text messages but can't reply to them unless they have Google phones (RCS), very frustrating. I can send GIF and pictures.

Google messages doesn't work half as well as Samsung messages on galaxy s21.
All MMS msgs have to be manually downloaded even though I have it set to auto.
My issue with it is like the video quality when sending like bit rate seem low when sending but fine one my phone and I have a s23
Finally… only a decade later Google has delivered an iMessage like experience. Now manufacturers just need to use it by default.

I take it RCS does not work with dual sims? (Pixel 6 Pro utilizing one hard sim and one esim) on TMobile. 4xl used to work but was only using one sim.

That's why most new Android phones come with Google Messages as the default client and any new Android phone you purchase from a carrier makes the app the default instead of them putting their own messaging app onto the phone. I'm finding more and more of my friends that have gotten new phones are able to Chat with me via RCS now.
