Reason is, when in an front end crash, if you have them anchored lower than your shoulders, it will force your shoulders down, compressing your spine. I have a friend with a shattered vertebrae (now fused after surgery) because of this.
"submarining" I was instructed to stay with the stock 3pt or go straight to 5pt to prevent the lap belt from movement in the unlikely event there is a crash.
This. Spinal compression is bad news. My spine is fused top to bottom with 2 rods and 21 screws and can confirm you dont want your spine fused together lol just anchor your belts appropriately
Haste Garage I was recommended the same. In general - please consult a professional before deciding on your harness setup. For similar reasons, I don’t believe a HANS device is advisable on anything less than a 5/6pt harness. That said, some 4pt harnesses have “anti-submarining” features which I’m not totally across (or convinced they’re approved and effective).
@Ghost Rider it was to correct my scoliosis which was slowly crippling me. They fused my spine top to bottom nearly, leaving me totally solid from my shoulders to my bottom. I still went and drove dirt track cars and had my fun but it took tons of special considerations to get me safe and comfortable in a car. The process of working my seat into the cage and mounting harnesses was hugely important because my spine no longer bends at all, so we had to be CERTAIN that when crashing, my belts wouldnt hurt me worse. Fine line there!
There’s a simple way to secure those panels. Gotta go off book. Maybe use jb weld to tack some mounting tabs or something. They’re gorgeous, so there’s no way I’d give up where they did. But personally, I like the simpler aluminum ones just fine. I’ve spent stupider money on my Cuda and SRT-10 so I can’t judge on carbon door panels. I’m watching this getting ideas for my JDM front clip converted 95 Integra GSR K20A build. I want a cage but I need leg room. And if like to ditch panels and rear seat and add turbo.

6:00 I met a dude that had to get a colostomy bag after getting in an accident while wearing a 4 point harness. If you go into a wall, the lower belts and clasp can pull up into your abdomen and under your ribcage, and can cause serious damage. If you have the choice between 4 and 5 point harnesses, always go for the 5 point.
did you find out why that happened? was it like bindingcurve said where the shoulder straps were too short or was the driver sitting in a bad position? i can imagine the driver kinda sliding down the seat and into the lower straps if he was slouching down low in the seat and not sitting properly. idk if you guys can visualize what im trying to say

One of the older mechanics overheard me hyping it up and told me "a roll cage without a helmet is just the difference between and open or closed casket."
Definitely true. Modern cars are designed fundamentally to crush. When you increase the stiffness with a cage, you strip the car of its ability to absorb impacts. Without wearing helmets, I think I would prefer to see them install strut bars or something, to at least stiffen the car a bit.

I bought and installed a full 10 point cage from Competition Engineering for my 1967 Camaro. Came with all the tubing and 1/8th inch plates. It was trial and error but fit and welded everything myself in a couple weekends for $700-800 bucks.
