Ohhhhhh yeeeaaaahhhh family!!! Hi Low is back!!!
$2,000 Steel Roll Cage vs $4,000 Chromoly Roll Cage. Does more expensive mean more better? We bought two identical Nissan 350z’s. We’ve been modifying them to be FUN daily drivers that you can take to the track. One Z gets expensive parts and one gets cheap parts. Then we test them to see which components are actually worth spending your hard earned money on.
Today we are installing ROLL CAGES! James and Zach are getting a professionally installed $4,000 4-pt bolt in Custom Painted and Color matched Chromoly roll cage. While Nolan and Aaron are getting a $2,000 4-pt bolt in Steel Roll Cage that they will install themselves.
There are a lot of different options when it comes to cages -- how do you know what cage you need? And does it matter if you have a bolt-in cage vs welded-in? And what does 4-point mean? What about 6-point? Is it safe to put a cage in your street car?

on the roll cage they only used a standard nut to hold the bottom of the roll cage to the chassis.

7:50 You want to have the shoulder strap anchors higher than your shoulders when sitting.
Reason is, when in an front end crash, if you have them anchored lower than your shoulders, it will force your shoulders down, compressing your spine.
I have a friend with a shattered vertebrae (now fused after surgery) because of this.
Horizontal or 20° down (i.e. lower) is the binding Schroth instruction for race harnesses, never higher! You find their manual online.
"submarining" I was instructed to stay with the stock 3pt or go straight to 5pt to prevent the lap belt from movement in the unlikely event there is a crash.
This. Spinal compression is bad news. My spine is fused top to bottom with 2 rods and 21 screws and can confirm you dont want your spine fused together lol just anchor your belts appropriately
Haste Garage I was recommended the same. In general - please consult a professional before deciding on your harness setup. For similar reasons, I don’t believe a HANS device is advisable on anything less than a 5/6pt harness. That said, some 4pt harnesses have “anti-submarining” features which I’m not totally across (or convinced they’re approved and effective).
@Ghost Rider it was to correct my scoliosis which was slowly crippling me. They fused my spine top to bottom nearly, leaving me totally solid from my shoulders to my bottom. I still went and drove dirt track cars and had my fun but it took tons of special considerations to get me safe and comfortable in a car. The process of working my seat into the cage and mounting harnesses was hugely important because my spine no longer bends at all, so we had to be CERTAIN that when crashing, my belts wouldnt hurt me worse. Fine line there!
When Hi-low first happened the world was doing just fine, now everything is a shitshow but I’m super glad that Hi-low is back 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

My favorite quote about roll cages came from when I was working at a German auto shop and at the time I thought you were basically invincible when you got a cage installed in your car. One of the older mechanics overheard me hyping it up and told me "a roll cage without a helmet is just the difference between and open or closed casket."
Definitely true. Modern cars are designed fundamentally to crush. When you increase the stiffness with a cage, you strip the car of its ability to absorb impacts. Without wearing helmets, I think I would prefer to see them install strut bars or something, to at least stiffen the car a bit.
I am flabbergasted how these guys say 'more better' with absolute conviction in every episode.

Donut has changed the car world. Before this there were no high quality funny and educational car videographers on TH-cam. Pumphrey made them famous with nothing but his face and personality. I've been curious what you guys end up doing with these cars when your done with a series, like do you flip them, does James and Nolan keep them, does someone at donut keep them
They put them in a local auto museum.
For anyone unaware, donut usually posts HiLow and a couple of their other videos way in advance on Facebook, so you guys can watch through the entirety of HiLow Season 2 on their page if you want, as the finale for that was posted 3 months ago on their FB page. You don't even need a Facebook account to watch it (given you're using a desktop/laptop).
Do they make more money on Facebook or something if not then that is counterproductive. I guess they know what they're doing. I still watch all their content.

I’d be so pissed about those carbon fiber door panels. $1500 for useless terrible fitting pieces of crap. I’d be demanding a refund lol
There’s a simple way to secure those panels. Gotta go off book. Maybe use jb weld to tack some mounting tabs or something. They’re gorgeous, so there’s no way I’d give up where they did. But personally, I like the simpler aluminum ones just fine. I’ve spent stupider money on my Cuda and SRT-10 so I can’t judge on carbon door panels. I’m watching this getting ideas for my JDM front clip converted 95 Integra GSR K20A build. I want a cage but I need leg room. And if like to ditch panels and rear seat and add turbo.

6:00 I met a dude that had to get a colostomy bag after getting in an accident while wearing a 4 point harness. If you go into a wall, the lower belts and clasp can pull up into your abdomen and under your ribcage, and can cause serious damage. If you have the choice between 4 and 5 point harnesses, always go for the 5 point.
Most people run the shoulder straps too short and they end up pulling up the lap belt.
And I just got to 8:50 and there he is cranking on the shoulder straps

did you find out why that happened? was it like bindingcurve said where the shoulder straps were too short or was the driver sitting in a bad position? i can imagine the driver kinda sliding down the seat and into the lower straps if he was slouching down low in the seat and not sitting properly. idk if you guys can visualize what im trying to say
